I came here because I saw the 4.1 rating and decided to give it a try. We came on a Saturday evening. There was outdoor seating and also indoor seating. We opted for indoor seating but didn't expect to be placed in the bar area of the restaurant when the other half of the indoor space was practically empty. Upon being placed at our table, we were wedged between the bar and the bar patrons. I guess it's also our fault for not speaking up or requesting to move tables. So for the hour that we were there, my friend basically had someone's ass next to her face as the person was trying to talk to people at the bar. For the music, think country. Think American rock. Very loud music mixed with bar patron loud talking. I wish we sat outside, but again our fault for not speaking up. We ordered several apps and then a few entrees. For the apps, we went with edamame, fried avocado, and takoyaki balls. There was no problems with the apps since it's standard sushi restaurant apps. However, the takoyaki balls are on the spicier side so this is just a heads up. For entrees, we were intrigued by the vast amount of menu items. So we ordered one ramen, one yakiudon and a few sushi rolls. The tempura tonkatsu ramen... is this what Downer Grove considers ramen??? My friend's direct words were "I could have cooked this at home." No taste, soup was on the watery side as in, no flavor. The yakiudon was salty. We took the remaining udon home and wow let me warn you that if you don't go directly home afterwards, it will stink up the car and not in a good way. The sushi... we also packed this up to go. After finishing the noodles, we didn't have much room left for the sushi. We each took one bite of the sushi and decided that we could have gone to Mariano or whole food for the sushi. I guess the people of downer grove have different standard of sushi from Chicago people.. For the speciality rolls, they were all drenched in sauce so you couldn't really enjoy the actual taste of the fish and rice pairing. For the traditional rolls, they broke apart the minute I grabbed them with my chopsticks.. Would I come back for the ambiance? No. Would I come back for the food? No. My friend's only enjoyment throughout the night was the coke she ordered.

I really don't understand the high ratings for this restaurant. I have tried it three times now, and always come away with feeling regret for giving it another chance. The restaurant itself is in a great location and is well kept and welcoming outside. The inside is eclectic and fun. I was planning on taking my daughters out for bento boxes to another restaurant, but realized they were closed on Mondays, so we decided to try Wasabi instead. When we arrived, it was half empty, we were seated in the back room, right by the bathrooms. We then proceeded to wait for 10 minutes before the waitress even approached our table to offer us water. Weird, but okay, she knows we're here now. We tried to order, but then she said she'd be back, so we waited again. We then ordered three bento boxes and asked for straws...and waited and waited and waited again. Once our bentos arrived, I realized that the waitress hadn't asked if we wanted soup or salad with our bentos, as is stated in the menu. When she finally reappeared in the dining room, I flagged her down to ask if we're were supposed to receive soup or salad with our bentos, in case I had misread the menu. Her response was, "did you ask for soup or salad?" Isn't it her job to ask us? Instead I just asked again if soup or salad were supposed to come with the bentos, and if so, we'd like two salads and one soup. I should have left it alone, the salad dressing was not good. Tasted like orange juice and miracle whip. The chicken teriyaki bento my daughter received did not look appealing at all, the chicken looked almost white. The vegetables in my tempura were huge chunks, nothing delicate about them at all, and soggy because of the size of the veg, and the shrimp were like the ones you buy frozen from Costco. The shumai were like the frozen ones you microwave from Hmart. Even the California roll was tasteless, like they don't season the rice. We also had crab Rangoon, which tasted like Lipton onion soup mixed with cream cheese. Overall, a pretty disappointing meal. I have finally learned my lesson. It seems they cater to an American palatte, and have lost any semblance of authenticity or flavor. Lazy cooking in an area with so much competition.

3.5 stars. Spacious restaurant. One side is the bar side and the other side is more for families. Located downtown downers grove and it was really tricky to find parking on the weekend. We came for afternoon lunch. The restaurant is dog friendly which is unique. The service was okay could be better, because our waiter was less attentive and in a rush to help other things. The menu has a lot of Asian food options from Chinese, Japanese, and some Korean. Nothing stoodout of the ordinary or different menu wise. The bar side was dark and had a mural of a frenchie holding couple beers. We had sushi and Chinese food. All were made fresh to order. Food was good.

Service was great! Really great rolls. Fried oysters were good but thick breaded. Music was loud. The chocolate mousse cake is very light and creamy, excellent (highly recommend). Ambiance is moody and bustling.

Second visit. Date night on a Satuday night - early dinner. Arrived at approximately 5:30pm and were seated immediately at a two top next to the front window. Our server was Michael. He was extremely friendly, funny and knew the menu. We ordered Mongolian Béef, Malaysian Chow Fun and a Godzilla Roll. Michael recommended the first two dishes. All the food was excellent. The noodles had a slight crispyness to them, perfect texture. It had a strong currry taste to it which we enjoyed. The Mongolian Beef was one of the best weve had... Not overly saucy, not too dry. The beef was tender and the onions were caramelized. Yum! Would definitely recommend. We will be back.

Came in on a Friday night to a welcoming team who were quick to seat us. My sister and I had never had Ramen before and wanted to try it. We were advised which to go with (they serve two types) and went with our server's suggestion. The Tonkotsu Pork Ramen was DELICIOUS! We also got the octopus balls as an appetizer, very tasty with chunks of octopus and batter. Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. Ambiance was fun, mixture of people eating and some having drinks at the bar. Very lively!

It's been a while since I dined here. My friends and I sat outside, which was fine until it started getting dark. Some string lights around the tables would give a little more ambiance and just some light. We started off with the spicy garlic edamame. The spicy sauce was just poured on top, would have liked it tossed with the beans. Tasty at least. We split four rolls, two basic and two signature. It was enough for the three of us but none of the rolls were standout. I recall liking it more last time. The waiter was attentive enough except for bringing the requested straw, eventually my friend got it.

This place has a huge menu! I am not a fan of sushi, but they have plenty of options for people like me. I really like the Mongolian beef - they give you a huge portion and lots of meat, which not a lot of places do. Even though it's always busy, I've never had a problem getting a table here. Would recommend if you're ever in the Downers Grove area.

It's been hit or miss lately - sometimes really NOT fresh. Also the bathrooms are disgusting. It makes me worried about overall cleanliness

Great Sushi place. Very authentic Japanese food. The service is good but when they are busy, it takes some time to get your check.

It wasn't really busy when I walked in to pick up my order so it was quiet when I was in there. I was curious about the dim sum but saw that they had lunch specials for a great deal! So I had ordered some for myself and my parents. We were all so hungry from not eating all day, so I didn't get to take any pictures, but that means, I'll have to go back so I can take pictures! We got the teriyaki fish fillet lunch special, ginger scallion fish fillet lunch special, and beef chow fun lunch special. Each lunch special came with an eggroll or 2 crab rangoon and a drink. Everything was delicious and I can't complain about the portion! It was definitely filling. My family enjoyed it & kept raving about it...mostly about it not being too greasy. We will definitely be back here again!
