    Classic Tokyo Tonkotsu Ramen
    Mark S.

This is some of the best ramen I've had in the city. It is packed with flavor, and the toppings are great. However, I do wish the pork was cut a little thicker and charred a little more. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service and ambiance inside were great[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and I would actually say the Tsukemmen dipping ramen was the highlight of the night. This is a very solid place, and I will definitely return.

Tonchin gets a lot right. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space itself is the real star: dim, buzzy, and somehow both intimate and lively at the same time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was warm and attentive without hovering. As for the miso ginger ramen? Genuinely good. The broth had real depth and a nice kick of ginger that kept it interesting bowl after bowl. Noodles were perfectly springy. Nothing groundbreaking, but a solid, satisfying execution. But with so many great ramen spots in the city, I'd probably explore a few others first before looping back. Tonchin earns its place -- just maybe not the top of the list yet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great for a date night or a casual dinner with friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Came here during restaurant week and had the special course menu. The maguro tataki and shiitake appetizers were underwhelming and forgettable, so I don't recommend those. The tonchin classic tonkotsu ramen was flavorful and a bit different than ones I've had at other places. The broth had a richness that was almost sesame oil-like. The Tokyo banana dessert though, was the star of the meal. I'm not a big dessert person, but my friend and I were joking we should order another round of this cause it was that good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is small with an intimate ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Reservations recommended.

I went to Tonchin Brooklyn for dinner on a Sunday night, and it was absolutely spectacular. I can completely see why it's on the Michelin Guide. To start, I ordered their matcha lemonade, which was super refreshing with a well-balanced matcha flavor. We also had the cucumbers with onion dressing, and they were delicious -- the dressing paired perfectly with the crisp cucumbers. The fingerling potatoes were buttery and flavorful, and we also ordered the curry wings, which were very good. The curry flavor was subtle and paired really well with the parmesan cheese, giving them a savory depth without being overpowering. For my main, I had their steak ramen, which was a collaboration they were featuring at the time, and it's probably one of the best bowls of ramen I've ever had. The broth was incredibly flavorful, the steak was cooked perfectly, the egg was beautifully seasoned, and the shoestring potatoes added such a great crunch. I'm honestly going to be dreaming about that ramen. I'd highly recommend making a reservation. This place is absolutely worth it.

Located in Brooklyn like many current hotspots, Tonchin proved to be a wonderful choice for reported 5 to have a nice close a dinner with beautiful appetizer such as Madai tartare, Tsukune buns, grilled miso Hamachi and wonderful ramens, e.g. a miso ginger ramen (vegetarian) or others. Every item was delicious with great flavors and textures. And lastly, the desserts were humongous.

This ramen place was within walking distance from my hotel. Don't be misled by the humble storefront. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor inside is simple but modern and elegnat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came in for a quick lunch. I was just early enough to get here before the lunch crowd did. The line quickly built up at the entrance. To make it simple, I ordered the lunch set. I picked the dashi salad and my favorite Tonkotsu ramen. The salad looked visually appealing and appetizing, with a mix of romaine lettuce, radicchio, and other leafy greens, topped with fresh chives. The dsahi dressing was light yet savory with a subtle umami flavor. As for the entree, the ramen broth was rich and flavorful. The roasted chashu slices were tender with a nice smoky taste. The little fat on the pork added an extra touch of tenderness. So yummy! The service was courteous and friendly. There is also a bar for interested adult patrons to enjoy a glass of sake or wine. I'll come back again to try other items on the menu on my next visit to the city.

Tried takeout from here recently and really enjoyed it! I got the miso ginger ramen and it had nice flavor and quite a bit of spice to it, the right level if you want a kick. I liked how it came with corn and lots of veggies, the cabbage was a unique touch. The bamboo shoots were a bit tough and stringy, could have been cut smaller. The curry cheese wings had a nice flavor, definitely a drier no sauce wing but I don't think it needed a sauce. The roasted smashed potatoes had a hint of lemon and were nicely cooked. All yummy overall, kind of pricey though! Without any add-ons like eggs or meat, the ramen was $24.50, and the wings were $29.50... seems kind of crazy to me. Good but there are other cheaper spots around!

I've been coming to Tonchin for years now, and it continues to be one of my absolute favorite ramen spots in the city. This visit was no exception. I ordered the lunch special and went with the dashi salad and the classic Tokyo tonkotsu ramen. Both were excellent. The ramen was rich, deeply flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The dashi salad was fresh, light, and the dressing adds the perfect amount of flavor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Beyond the food, the atmosphere was inviting and the service was attentive and friendly, which always makes the experience that much better.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While I wouldn't mind seeing prices come down just a bit, it's honestly nothing that takes away from how consistently great the food and overall experience are. If anybody looking for ramen here in nyc, I recommend Tonchin.

Walked in as a party of 2 on a Saturday afternoon at around 12:45pm and got seated right away! We started with the Cucumber Salad, which was good! Nothing special, but I really liked the dressing. My friend got the OG Tonkatsu Ramen, which she's ordered before and enjoyed. I got the Smoked Dashi Ramen and surprisingly really enjoyed it! It smells fishy at first, but the taste is thankfully not as strong and more smoky. It comes with a few tiny clams, half an egg, and bamboo shoots. Overall, would order again! Service was on par as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a nice spot for a decent, casual meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

So grateful to have tried the steak au poivre ramen. The broth was rich & delicious & the matchstick potatoes soaked up the delectable flavors incredibly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe was great & service was nice![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Ordered the ton katsu ramen. The ramen was very good and paired well with the meat. Price was on the expensive side, but it was filling.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Tonchin has a cozy and intimate space that's good for a date or small group.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The servers were attentive and friendly. We came for the Cabagges World collab of their steak au poivre ramen and luckily there was no wait on a Thursday night at around 6pm! The steak au poivre ramen exceeded our expectations. We loved the tenderness of the steak, which was well balanced with the thin and crispy frites. The broth was creamy and rich without being too heavy. Overall a solid first collab. In addition we got the half dozen oysters and madri tartare (red snapper) for apps. The oysters were fresh, and we loved the yuzu dressing and perilla leaf that go with it. The tartare came with Japanese milk bread topped with tomato butter and cheese which was a great combo. We also got the smoked dashi ramen, which had a healthy amount of clams and tastefully smoked broth that was well paired with the spicy sauce we got on the side. Last but def not least we ended the night with the mango shaved ice. The cream topping was super unique, a medium between ice cream and whipped cream, and it added depth to the dessert. The mango bits tasted really as well. We would recommend this place and try their other dishes next time.

I dream about the food. When I say delicious..........DELICIOUS! Took my sister here for a birthday lunch and she still talks about it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is super modern and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waiter did more than just order take but he was very knowledgeable of the menu. He suggested multiple items and was very descriptive on why we should get them. Wings were perfect, steak au poivre was excellent. Will be back again!!!!!

I am SO glad we did. The vibe drew us in, they had great music bumpin from the outside, it looked lively and welcoming. Let me tell you- I would have skipped dinner and just stayed here all evening if it was my choice! But alas, my husband wanted a bit more to eat. But let me tell you- their knowledge of wine is PRISTINE! I can't tell you what white wine we had but they captured our tastes perfectly. We also shared a bruschetta and it was deliciouso! I love how friendly the staff was here and how unpretentious it all was. Next time we are in NYC- we will definitely make a point to come visit Rake!

First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. Overall - I'd definitely go back again, and maybe just focus on the wine and another tinned fish selection!

The ssam lettuce wraps were good, though they read a little more like Jewish brisket with a spicy bean sauce than what I expected from a Korean lettuce wrap. Still tasty, just a different vibe. Highly recommend trying their original cocktails ($18). We tried the flower child and the harvest moon. Both were tasty. I would get harvest moon again and again. Perfect balance of Tart, sweet refreshing and strong. Menu items change seasonally so it's delightful to try something new every time you visit. $21 potato croquettes were highly disappointing. Everyone recommended them highly, but I could not understand why. For such price, three tiny balls of fried potato should've been mind blowing, but they were underwhelming and forgettable at best.
