Edamame had a weird smell and taste to it. They don't make any adjustments to their menu. I thought the Hamachi was not fresh & tasted gamey. We felt very rushed from the moment we walked in the door. They made a swear to only be there a short time and then they were hovering with the bill and when we returned the edamame, they did not take it off of the bill. Came here for dinner, gets packed so you need an rsvp. We tried the pizza ramen, tonkatsu and smoked dashing. Best was the tonkatsu, it was just an excellent broth and noodles. Second favorite was the pizza, interesting blend with tomato sauce, cheese, bread stick. I'm glad I tried it but wouldn't replace traditional ramen for me. Least favorite was the fashion, I've had seafood based ramen before but thought the flavor was a bit strong here and didn't enjoy the shells. Overall pretty good ramen. Overall pretty good ramen. We got the spicy tantan ramen and vegan miso ginger ramen. The noodles were nice and chewy and the broth was flavorful. The ramen is a little bit on the pricier end but that might have to do with the fact that the midtown one is Michelin rated. We also shared the mango shaved ice. By the time we ordered dessert it got super busy and we waited quite some time for the dessert. There were bits of mango that was pretty fresh and other bits that were not. I'm not sure mango is season so that would explain it. I would say this would be a good date spot but it got so loud later on I could barely hear my friend. read more

The wings were super crispy and the seasoning was so delicious wish they added a bit more. My ginger miso ramen was delicious. The broth was extremely flavorful. I recommend adding chili oil if you like a little spice. I was told the original tonkotsu ramen but good but my broth was better. I didn't try that one because I try to stay away from pork. I arrived under a reservation and as I walked inside there wasn't a person in sight. I stood watching people run around without acknowledging me. As I walked back towards the entrance a man appeared and asked if I was waiting to be seated. Yes! Once seated it took a while to wave down a waiter to order a drink. Very happy to see non alcoholic options. I went for green lemonade - they bring a lemonade and pour a thick matcha paste inside. I really liked it! But it was $12 which is kind of crazy. When I tried to make it at home, I couldn't get the matcha to be as thick. Curious what the trick is! Of course I got the vegan ginger miso ramen. And it was... Delicious. Blown away by the ramen here! We came here around 6pm on a Tuesday night and there were no reservations available online but at lot of open 2 top tables we were able to grab. We had the pizza ramen which was just so interesting and delicious, I'm not sure I would get it again but I'm really glad I tried it and would recommend anyone to try it! We also got a classic ramen that was excellent and one of the very best I've ever had. So happy we came here and will def be back. Come for the food, stay for the ambiance and service. This is a very intimate restaurant with both front of the restaurant and back of the restaurant seating. The back is a little more buzzing (with tables and booths) but the front has high tables and low tables (2 seaters) and can be roomier depending on what type of theme you're looking for. It's good for couples and catching up with friends. The Tonkotsu Ramen has a delicious broth, something that can be a hit or miss depending on which ramen restaurant you go to in NYC. The dipping version of this ramen is also available. The appetizers that we got: White Tartare ($28) which came with a scoop of caviar and a small chip (if you want more it's $2 extra), was tasty but not sure if it was $28 tasty. The 6PC Wings were delicious and not too spicy, this was the better of the two appetizers. The wine: We got a skin contact special (photo posted) which was recommended by the Som. The ramen is pretty solid. Every broth we tried was really well seasoned. The dashi broth had a strong fish flavour which can be a bit too much to drink the whole bowl of, but every bowl was good. TLDR: The Williamsburg location of Michelin-starred Tonchin. Some classic menus items are here but very different vibes at this shop and different apps. The small plates are expensive. If you're going to come, stick with the ramen. If you can make the trip though, I would much rather go to the Midtown location. I was curious about the Brooklyn Tonchin since I heard they were opening. To be candid, didn't love it. The layout/interior is very different from the original. That's fine but I found the appetizers to be very expensive and the portions to be quite small. Maybe a bit too small given the cost. Wagyu Coulotte. I guess something of a take on a carpaccio. Not bad but the beef was razor-thin and this thing was gone literally in seconds. Shiitake. Mushrooms, tofu hummus. This was good but again, very small portion and to be honest just felt out of place. It seemed very random for the menu. No gyoza? We did order a tartare dish but it actually never came. Service definitely needs to find its footing first. No tsukemen at this location. Smoked Dashi + Tokyo Tonkotsu were both good, not as good as the Midtown one but they were fine. If you've wanted to try Tonchin and you're local to the area, it's cool place to have in the neighborhood. Drop in and grab a bowl. I think the portion sizes need to align with the prices and definitely service needs to improve. Personally - I'd much rather go to the Midtown location with the more extensive menu. read more

Tonchin is my go to ramen place in NYC. I bring all my visitors to this place because I think their food is great. I knew I had to try the Williamsburg location since I like the midtown location so much. I was surprised to find out that this location has a different menu from the midtown location. My go to is usually the Tsukemen, but they don't have that at this location, so I decided to try the Smoked Dashi Ramen. I loved the ramen. The firmness of the noodles were perfect. My cousin had the Spicy Tan Tan Ramen, which was also amazing. We also tried the Shiitake Bites, which is a hummus with thinly sliced bread, which is sort of like a crisp. The flavor was delicious. And the bread crisps went perfectly with it. I will for sure come back to this location. I just hope they start serving the Tsukemen here too! read more

Came on a rainy Saturday for lunch after an hour of hot yoga and getting stuck in the rain. Because of that ramen was a given need that day. I can't justify the price, but I guess since the one in the city is Michelin rated so this one should reflect it. I didn't make reservations, but lucked out by doing the waiting and a table became available not too long afterwards. Unto the entree, I got the spicy tan tan noodles. It had a kick to it with peppers to make it spicy. I also like the roasted chasu which is pork. All the ingredients came together. I also liked the potato bites that were ordered. It wasn't how I pictured it to look so got me by surprise. Last but not least got the dessert and it was epic. Pretty refreshing. The shaved ice was great! Probably one of the best ramen restaurants I've ever been to. Great vibes and atmosphere for a date. Oddly, the non-alcoholic drinks are the ones that shine for me. The Colette was roasted red peppery and so good. The white tartare was one of the most outstanding tartares I ever had. The oysters were dressed up so nicely and at MP, it wasn't that bad. This meal felt like something out of a dream, everything was so distinctly flavorful and while it was all excellent, the mango shaved ice stands out as the biggest surprise because it was so well presented and easy to share with a table (they serve chilled bowls with it to allow you to scoop into your bowl without it melting). As far as the ramen itself... also outstanding. I never would have imagined "pizza ramen" would exist in this world but it somehow does and it is DELICIOUS. Great experience at Tonchin. The ambiance was very dark, moody and intimate, yet great for groups of people to gather for a meal. The food, drinks and dessert were all so delicious. My personal favorite was the dashi salad, which was so savory and unique. The ramen is the epitome of what good ramen should be, simple yet flavorful. The restaurant has a nice ambience and I think it would be good for a date night! My friends and I came by on a Saturday night w a reservation and were seated right away. I got the classic Tonkatsu ramen which was really flavorful, although a tiny bit too salty for me. The egg was a perfect soft boil and the cha siu was very yummy. The cha siu was thinner than most other ramen place I've been to but I think it worked in this instant bc it almost melted in your mouth since it was thin. My friend got the spicy tan tan and really enjoyed it as well - it def has a bit of a kick to it if. We got the mango kakigori for dessert after ($16 FYI bc there's no written dessert menu). The cream on top wasn't too sweet and was a really good compliment to the shaved ice. It wasn't super crunchy shaved ice which I appreciated. A nice light dessert to end the meal! Came here as it was way easier to get a reservation compared to the Manhattan location. Tonchin lived up to it's hype! Ambiance wise, it was pretty loud in the back. The front of the restaurant seemed a bit more quiet and would be appropriate for a date - it was hard to talk without yelling over people. They also don't have a cocktail menu yet, but have an extensive wine list. I tried their seasonal "pizza ramen" as well as the tonkotsu, and the strawberry shaved ice for dessert. The pizza ramen is THE REASON for the 5 stars - I don't know how they did it but they literally made it taste just like pizza without making it weird. Highly recommend if they have it on the menu! The tonkotsu was good but not mind blowing. The shaved ice was my friends personal favorite - it was huge! Probably enough for four people to share, and the cream on the top was delish. While it was empty at the beginning, I was glad we had a reservation because this place filled up. The drink menu has a number of wines and sakes as well as japanese whiskey to accompany the meal. Our waiter kindly let us try some of the sakes before finally settling on one to accompany our meal. For the appetizer, we started with the shiitake and the miso pork. The shiitake is actually hummus dipping sauce served with a thin crispy bread. It was interesting but not my favorite. The miso pork surprised me - the flavor was almost reminiscent of beef bulgogi. We enjoyed it. For the entree, we tried smoked dash ramen and the spicy tan tan tsukemen (cold noodles served with a bowl of thicker soup for dipping). Both were tasty and filling.
