(Marshall don't hate me for this) SO THERE I WAS RIGHT, being a good catholic boy, and this bartender, slender girl , believe her name was Krystal, FIRST OF ALL, did not give me a straw , then when I asked for one she said"why , you look like your good at swallowing " I was OFFENDED. So finally this she devil gives me a straw and then has the balls to take a sip!!! So I asked her is the drink free now and she says "only thing here is ass whoopins" SO I GOT IN MY CROUCHING TASTY TIGER STANCE and tried to hoof her in the front butt and this demon caught my kick and stabbed me with a straw!!!!! #1star Update, girl didn't work there, she just wanted a free sip and a fade. So I sssuuupppooossseeee this lovely best bar in reno deserves five stars

"Tonic" is an after-hours joint, for those that feel like your regular 9pm - 2am joint isn't enough party for your hardy. I discovered "Tonic" on accident a few years ago and I honestly have no clue as to why I'm just now getting to a review. To be honest I know why, but I'm going to pretend like I don't. "Tonic" is different yet fresh for the Downtown Reno night life, as it feels like it should be in Seattle, San Francisco or even Los Angeles, but it's in Reno. With a nice rotation of DJ's and being an all "House Music" aka "EDM" for you younger folks. Let me tell you why I enjoy "Gin and Tonics" at....."Tonic" Saturday September 1, 2018 Location: Tonic Lounge Reno, NV People: 3 Adults Story: Sometimes you just want to party, and that was the name of the game this weekend. After club/bar hopping all through downtown "Reno" I still wanted a bit more. My homies and I got kinda bored fast with "Top 40's" and "Karaoke" so I suggested "Tonic", good drinks and house music. It was pretty much a no brainier, only being a block away from the club we we're leaving, we made our way to "Tonic" Service/Hospitality: I must admit, the service here is pretty darn good. From the bouncers to the bartenders I had no complaints. For it being a busy Saturday night during "Labor Day Weekend" everything moved smoothly. Getting in was a breeze, getting drinks was a breeze, heck even using the restroom wasn't an ordeal as it usually could be waiting for the men's restroom in most establishments. The staff of "Tonic" runs a well oiled operation, I was pretty happy. Atmosphere: The vibe here is different from your adverage nightclub/lounge as "House Music/EDM" seems to bring in a more....mature audience. The DJ that was here this night had the crowd rocking playing some of that SF/Chicago style house music, only true fans of the style will relate. The crowd this night wasn't rowdy, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves all the way down to the bartenders that started doing flair moves while pouring drinks and mesmerizing the crowd. "Tonic" has a specialty drink list or you could get something basic. I opted for a shot of "Fernet" $4 and a "Gin and Tonic" $6 or course. The pour was just right and the shot went down just as a shot should. It wasn't overly crowded and the overall vibe was just on point. I had a really good time here and so did my homies. Overall: "Tonic" is a fun little place and a better "IMO" option for house music and after-hours than "1Up" which is a similar type of establishment that charges cover and have not so friendly staff. This place is a great nightcap or start of the night kinda place. No cover, great service, and most of all good music. I would recommend "Tonic" most definitely, although it may be a bit of an acquired taste for some. A great addition to the "Reno" nightlife that can honestly be a bit repetitive. But this is my opinion, go and see for yourself what I'm talking about and formulate your own opinion.

We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Saturday. The joint was nearly empty aside from a couple at the bar. Plenty of seating for our large group in the large, comfy couches. They also have cool built-in seating around the perimeter of the bar, though not nearly as comfortable as the vintage furniture. The menu is sorted by glass type. A fun and unique way to sort cocktails. They also have a selection of beer on draft and wine. The drinks can also be made into mocktails- a win for our group since we had a few non-drinkers. The 1859 mocktail was great. Perfectly sweet with a small hit of miso flavor from the miso honey. Probably even better and more balanced with the whiskey! Others in my group enjoyed working their way through the many light, dark, and sour beers on tap. 1864 offers a classic, relaxed atmosphere and a great place to get a cocktail. The prices are reasonable, too. Definitely worth the visit.

What a major local gem in Reno. It only took one visit for…read moreme to become a fan of this coffee shop/bar in Midtown. You can tell that a lot of thought and heart went into the place. The decor, the entertainment, the products all struck a chord with me. On one side - a super cute pour over/loose leaf tea shop with some records for sale. On the other - a cute bar and lounge area equipped with a vinyl player (Bring one in on a Monday for them to play). You have some house pants, checkered floors, and cool vinyl covers all over the walls that make for some great & hip atmosphere and vibes. Their restrooms, though small, and clean and cool. Their pour overs are so flavorful, strong, and made with beans grounded on your visit. I love that they're flavored and sweetened in a way that allows the coffee to shine. If you're into sweeter drinks, ask for a bit more sweetner or add in a brown raw sugar packet yourself from the straw station. I hear their chocolate pour over is a hit. Matchas - prepared in a similar fashion. Slightly sweetned with subtle flavorings. I tried their carrot cake matcha today and really enjoyed the housemade syrup they used to flavor it with. I also love that they offer loose leaf teas. Their chai was nice, fragrant and great with a little sweetner and milk. Shelby over at the bar area was sooo patient with explaining their menu and suggested a isla bonita pineapple shrub drink for a non alcoholic option. Similar to their other drinks on the coffee side, it was tamed in sugar yet still fun and flavorful. I really enjoyed the tang from the apple cider and the spice from the tajin chili powder as a contrasting flavor. Double check their website for bar and coffee shop hours as they differ from one another. And follow them on Instagram for updates on seasonal specials & themed gatherings. A lot of cool local DJs spin here for special events and parties during the holidays. Tip: sit next to the pour over station next to the menu. It's so entertaining, especially with Sydney working the station (thanks so much for the chat and entertainment. Honestly one of the friendliest baristas I've ever met in Reno). Both bars are set up in a way that allows for meeting others and socializing. Check it out. It's a good time. Notes *Catch live jazz music on Wednesdays here for free. *free street & neighborhood parking *bagels & cream cheese available at the coffee shop *they have fun with their seasonal drink specials. An interesting combination of coffee shop, bar, and vinyl lounge, EP is located on Wells Avenue. I tried the Float On, a boozy adult root beer float using local gelato from Bibo. It's a coffee shop, so my friend sipped the 9 to 5, their version of an espresso martini. I saw that they were advertising this show...and I like a good magic show. It did not disappoint. The sleight of hand and on-stage demonstrations were incredible. As a guest of the hotel, I had a 20% coupon and promptly used it at the ticket office, though I think I should have picked my seat better. Nonetheless, I was in the second row and I was able to get a good look of the magic up close. If you arrive early, you can hang out for Happy Hour, they had some unique drinks including the local standby beers and cocktails...and mocktails for those attending the all-ages show. It was fun in the bar prior to the doors opening they have a magical experience for adults and kids to set the mood for the evening. Tracy the bartender was awesome! She also works at Blitz during the day. She has the kindest soul and such a people person! It was like I had known her for years. They have a box office where you can purchase tickets. Very hard to hear the gal! They definitely need a microphone to speak to each other. If you think you're going to save a few extra dollars on those service fees - you may have to think twice, just purchase on line. It's much easier. Also, they have a snack bar with fresh popped popcorn $9 -$13 and huge pretzels $14. Chase Hasty and his wife have traveled around the world to over 25 countries sharing their magical talent and ballet dancing skills. My favorite part of the show was when Chase brought out a locked box and Hoisted the box with a rope up to the ceiling and told this guy to watch the box. Later in the show they opened the box, it was a pretty impressive trick!!! One not to be forgotten!! It's a small production but well thought out with couple extra dancers and costumes changes. I love that Chase, picks people out of the audience to help with the show. Maddox was a return kid that had been practicing his magic and Chase let him perform in front of the audience and what is that called "That's Magic!!!" It's nice the performers will met you afterwards in the hallway to have pictures and ask questions. It's a great family night or you can come to the later show at 9pm for a little more risky nocturnal show. I'll have to save that one for another time!
