Should be zero stars. We were seated right away then totally ignored. Finally asked the bartender to see a manager. Again totally ignored. Overheard a waiter tell the bartender he couldn't find a manager. Still no one approached us. When we left 4-5 employees were at the front desk standing around. Asked who the manager was but no one seemed to know. We have been here many times over the years, but not recently mainly due to slow service in the past. read more

Worst service ever, staff walks by and doesn't acknowledge you when you are waiting to be seated. Once they do serve you the seem way to busy, overwhelmed or frustrated ( sighing, rolling eyes)and it is very uncomfortable interaction. On weekends cannot order off menu for breakfast or order to take back to your room. I asked to see buffet and it was out of bacon, low on sausage, pancakes and had continental breakfast items, not worth $10. Rather have $8 omelet off menu. Oh the hostess told me not to shove donut holes in my pocket! What the ???? I told her # 1 not a thief, #2 I don't eat carbs. I walked away upset to say the least. This is the 2nd time eating here, 1 time service was not as bad, took them long time to check on us after food delivered. Eggs and bacon were cold. Once staff was aware, the apologized, but then left our table didn't come back for 15 plus minutes then asked what I wanted, ? At that point loss my appetite. Grand Harbor hotel Staff is 5 Star. Great food. Right on the river. We sat outside, such a beautiful view. Walked the River Walk before and after. What a location! Had the ribs, split the full rack of baby back ribs with my honey. Asked the waiter to bring an extra plate because we were going to share the meal. He brought our meal separated on two plates, plated with potatoes and ribs for each of us. The loaded mashed potatoes are really good. Better, lighter than most, with lots of crisp bacon throughout. It was such fun to be treated so well. The look on his face when he brought our meal out was one of anticipation, he was waiting for is to be surprised and happy with his putting the meal on two plates so we wouldn't have to split it ourselves. Great night. Will be back the next time we visit Dubuque!!! read more

My husband had a great memory of eating at Tony Roma's when he used to live in Madison, WI which is what prompted us to stop in at this Dubuque location while we were there. Unfortunately the good memories stopped there. If I could give zero stars I would. When my family and I arrived, we were one of maybe 4 groups of people there. It was not busy. 4pm on Sunday. Waited 40 minutes for spinach dip and chips. After waiting over an hour for our food, noticed the family behind us (that arrived at least 15 minutes after us) had their food served. Waitress obviously forgot to put our order in and was avoiding us. When the food finally arrived they served my husband the wrong plate with a different side than he had ordered. The Medallions were the size of silver dollars and the shrimp was half frozen. ($24 for this?) He had also ordered a loaded baked potato and was given a plain one. They also forgot one of my sides. I ordered the 'stacked' spinach and chicken that was supposed to come with 'artichoke hearts'. There was nothing 'stacked' about it- two small overdone pieces of chicken with what looked to be the same spinach Dip we had ordered for an appetizer smeared on top of them. Asked the server where the artichokes were and she stated 'they make the topping separately, I don't know I think they are just mashed up in there. Did you think they would be whole?' Ummm... yes as the menu stated 'stacked with spinach, artichoke hearts, and a blend of 4 cheeses'... but I just let it go. At this point, everything was a joke. She sensed we were not happy and said she explained to the manager and he would be out. Manager stops by our table, knowing very well we weren't happy and says 'how are things going tonight folks?' At that point, my husband said 'not good' and explained our experience. The manager wanted to make excuses rather than apologize. Anyone who has EVER worked in customer service knows this isn't how it's done. He asked if we were 'interested in dessert', which we declined. He then said that he would 'take some off our bill.' Not even a simple apology, more like he was being 'bothered' by having to deal with unhappy customers. While he did take 20 percent off our bill, sadly we will NEVER return to a Tony Roma's. I only do reviews when the experience was well above or well below expectations. Unfortunately, my recent lunch in Dubuque fell short. My party of 8 was seated for a good 20 minutes before the waitress even acknowledged us. At that time, she took our drink order. Another 10 minutes goes by before the drinks are actually served and our lunch order was taken. The food was later brought out for 7 of the 8 people. My meal was brought out a few minutes later, but it was not what I ordered. The wait staff acted like it was my fault that they brought the wrong thing. Rather than making a fuss and inconveniencing my co-workers, I accepted the replacement meal instead of asking them to remake it. That was it. No offer for a discount or to comp meal. Dessert was not even offered to anyone in my group. There was nothing done to show that anyone was truly sorry for the mix up. The food was good, but too spicy for my liking (that's why I did not initially order the cajun meal). And, for most of us, soft drinks and ice tea were not refilled; it was one-and-done. I am truly disappointed in this restaurant and really do not have any desire to return. read more

Horrible service. We were promptly seated on the patio, then waited 15 minutes for a server to stop by our table. We then went to the bar to get our own drinks, walking right past a group of servers doing nothing more than socializing with each other, and were greeted by a bartender with zero personality and skunky tap beers. To top it off, when we complained we got a server with an attitude who actually told us "looks like I won the lottery" implying that he was stuck with us. read more

Tony Roma's advertises a "Sunday Funday" with 25 cent wings and numerous drink specials. We decided to give it a try last Sunday with less than acceptable results. The special runs from 2 pm until 8 pm, we arrived at 4:30 and were seated outside fairly quickly, however that was the end of the quickness. We waited about 10 min with no service so went inside to bar and purchased our own drinks. Another 10 min went by and a waiter came by to take our order we told him we wanted the wings to which he replied "sorry, we are out of wings". If you are going to the trouble of advertising food specials from 2-8 and you would think you wouldn't out after a little over 2 hours of running the special. Unfortunately this is typical of this location as this is the third time we came for a particular advertised special and they "ran out". Food is pretty good when they have it, but service has always been poor. read more

Here the evening of Veteran's day to celebrate with my husband who spent 21 years serving his country. He did appreciate the ribs that were given in honor of that. However, left a sour taste in both ours mouths. No acknowledgement, smile or "happy to have you here". Our waitress admitted to a headache but she was pathetic and the worst we have seen in DBQ or area in a long time. She showed no desire to be there and acted like it was a chore to serve us. Asian chicken salad was excellent as were the dinner rolls. The Mojo Chicken and veggies were tasteless and a great disappointment. We have eaten at Tony Roma's many times and have come to expect better than this. One of the persons in our party could not eat her beans as they were overcooked and shriveled. Website says 6:30am-11pm. At 9:45 on the way there I tried to call and confirm that two of us were coming in for a late dinner. No answer twice. So we trusted the website and ran in out of the rain and the hostess smirks at us saying "we don't seat after 10pm" the time was 9:56... Before getting the chance to ask why their website states 11pm and that its 4minutes to 10pm the hostess walks away.. Awful customer service. We won't be back. read more

Located in the Grand Harbor Resort, it is rather ridiculous that breakfast ends at 10:30--even on a Sunday. (Really? There were 4-5 weddings Saturday night at the attached convention center.) Combined with no vegetarian options, I didn't order anything but coffee. Talk about trying to squeeze every last dollar from your customers -- disappointing to say the least. My friend and I went for dinner tonight at Tony Roma's. He ordered a half rack of ribs and he said they were great! However, I ordered Mahi Mahi off the portion of the menu that gives you the option to have either grilled, blackened, or sesame crusted. I chose the sesame crusted because of course that sounds delicious! Unfortunately, when I received my plate of anxiously awaited dinner, it wasn't what I ordered. The fish was only grilled and only had one side. After I tried to substitute with the up charge for salad, my server informed me that I could only add the extra side for $1.99. Ok, no biggie-just sub one out for mashed potatoes and I'll take the salad on top too. So I asked if that was wrong and the server honestly replied "I'm not sure, let me check!" He walked over to the computer, punched in some digits then came back and told me he didn't have a sesame crusted option so he just hit "memo" I then told him that I didn't want the Mahi Mahi then because it wasn't what I order. I wanted crusted, not grilled marked. He said "ok!" And walked away. I tried the fish, it didn't have any flavor and was over cooked- I'm not a fan of grilled fish anyways-obviously why I didn't order it. THEN after 15 minutes when my friend finished his food, the server finally showed back up to check on us, took my plate and I informed him I didn't want to pay for the fish because it wasn't what I ordered. He asked if I wanted to talk to a manager and I said no thanks, I just want our check without the fish included. Five minutes later a manager shows up with the filet I had taken one bite of, only now with asiago cheese melted on it and said that she would take my dinner off the bill but she fixed my order for me. I told her "I'm so sorry, but this still isn't what I ordered" she said "ok" and walked away. Our server dropped off a bill and took my plate of food again. He then brought us change and never once apologized. I've gone to Tony Roma's many of times in the past and more times than not-had great service and food. As a fellow server and service industry employee-this was completely unacceptable. I was still charged for my salad and never once did a manager attempt to figure out what the situation was. Simply threw some Asiago on my fish (gross) and dropped a plate of extremely over-cooked fish off. Not impressed Tony Roma's, you are better than this and I'm very disappointed in MY selection of restaurant for date night.. I won't make that mistake again.. read more

We ate here a couple of times while staying at the Grand Harbor Resort. The staff was as polite, friendly, and as helpful as one could hope for. Our wait times to be seated and served were good. The food however was a huge disappointment. The filet medallions were extremely small, and tasted as though the meat was spoiled to begin with. The ribs seemed like they were simply boiled until mushy, grill marked for a minute or two, and then slapped with a thin layer of the lamest sauce ever created. I'm truly amazed that these are a 'signature' item - nothing like any real BBQ. My 92 year old grandmother would probably like them though - she has no teeth, no taste buds, and could gum them off of the bone. The mashed potatoes were fine, except that the serving size was about two tablespoons. Steamed broccoli was bitter, and completely void of butter, lemon or anything to add some flavor. Had an Amaretto Sour with dinner, and it was the lightest pour I've ever had in a bar anywhere - all sour, no Amaretto - almost completely clear, even after politely asking them to fix it. We visited for breakfast, having received a voucher from the hotel. We were immediately suspicious when the first question the hostess asked us is if we had a voucher. As expected, that meant we were given a stripped-down menu of the most basic fare. Watery scrambled eggs, limp bacon, dry overdone toast, and about one fourth of a fried potato. What's up with the serving size of taters? Again, good service, but pathetic food. Overall, it's very similar to Applebee's, except that the food is worse, the portions are smaller, and it costs twice as much. This franchisee is obviously thinking more about immediate profits than repeat business. We'll stay at this hotel again, but won't be returning to this Tony Roma's - or any other for that matter. read more

I had a really pretty good lunch at the restaurant with a group of four other friends. Service a little slow, but she was obviously busy and apologized! My complaint is that I left my camera on the table, obviously my own fault but I would certainly expect a member of the staff to pick it up and leave at the main desk. When I called I was passed from person to person and then told it was not found. I asked to talk to a manager. I was again sent from line to line. I finally was allowed to leave a message and asked for a return call, which I have never received. I think at the very least i deserve a phone call and the staff needs to be confronted about the camera. Very disappointed in the place. I will not return and plan on passing the word to my friends! read more

Gross gross and gross. I had the veggie sandwich. I only was able to eat half of it. My mom had egg plant- she spit it in her napkin. My step dad had the coffee and tossed it after one drink. If you stay at the Grand Harbor take a walk you will find somewhere else to get some food or a drink. read more

Had supper here one night with another couple. We had been to the casino and were staying in the hotel. Long story short it took almost 35 minutes after ordering our drinks for them to arrive. Our food took another hour after that and it was obvious that some was done quite some time before as certain foods were hot and others cold. When we said something to our waitress she said she would get the manager. The manager basically cslled us liars about our wait time and hust said "we're busy". No sorry, no offer to take even a penny off our almost $100 food bill. I will never go there again. We are staying at the hotel right now and i went out and bought $125 worth of papa johns pizza lastnight rather than eat there. Our group of 15 has spent easily $400 this weekend on food. None of it to this establishment because of rude management. Think about that Tony Romos next time you are rude to customers! read more

My husband took me here for my birthday, upon being seated the waitress spilled a glass of ice water all over me and proceeded to clean the table and not even give me napkins till my husband asked for them. It was a accident and we continued our dinner. After receiving our food, my food was wrong. My husband flagged down a waitress finally and let her know. She stated they would remake it. After sitting there forever a manager came up to see how things were. I proceeded to tell him all during this time still hadn't received my food. The manager laughed as I was talking to him with a attitude. Finally after not receiving my food and my husband was finished eating I told my husband I just wanted to leave. So we got up and he went and found the manager and was talking to him. The manager tried to tell him we had to pay for a meal we never even received and talked to my husband with such disrespect, I have never seen anything like it. Than talked to us like we were going to leave without paying, which if that's what we were going to do my husband wouldn't have went inside and asked several people where the manager was. I would never recommend this place to anyone and the way you are treated you should just go elsewhere. I was so disappointed in how they choose to do business. read more

Shortly after arriving we ordered an appetizer of spinach and artichoke dip. We waited 45 mins for that to come out and about 5 minutes after that the people who arrived about 30 minutes after us received their salads while we were still waiting for our food. Their entrees came out about 5 minutes after that when we had ordered over 45 minutes before them our food didn't come out any faster we still waited for our food and our waitress did not come to tell us how much longer it would be or why we were waiting so long until about 2 minutes before our food came out. My sister ordered a burger which was over cooked and mashed potatoes which consisted of a long black piece of hair that didn't come from any of us because we don't have black hair. Oh and the spinach artichoke stack "stack" may we say this was the flattest, driest, piece of chicken you could get and the "stack" of spinach and artichokes was the spinach part of the dip no artichoke heart while it clearly states on the menu that it comes with chunked artichoke hearts but they were clearly not there. We then asked the waitress if they forgot the artichoke and she said if they are suppose to be on there they would be in there because they pre mix the stuff on top. While this was not a stack and surly wasn't tasty it defiantly did not have artichokes. My other sister ordered the Alfredo chicken which wasn't that bad but it was bland. My dad's plate wasn't even his and was completely wrong. A $24 plate that I could get from cheesecake factory for 15 bucks. The prices were ridiculous and the food was overcooked overall this was horrible. While the waitress noticed that we were not happy she told us the manager would be coming over and that she talked to him about what happened. When the manager came over I felt like asking oh sorry did I interrupt your video game or did you just die. He tried to act like he had no idea and said how is everything here and my dad happily said oh not to good many problems. Everything we stated the manager tried to weave his way out of it. He said he could take some off our bill but then decided to ask if we wanted and desert. We denied because we definitely didn't want to wait another hour and pay extra for that. When we arrived we were the only ones there that makes it even worse they have no excuse for that long of a wait. I would give this a zero if that was and option I definitely will never be going there ever again. All and all we took some mints and ignored the manager on the way out. The mint were great though. My girlfriend and I had a most unpleasant experience there earlier tonight, the night of Thursday, May 13th, 2010. It was our custom for the previous few months to walk on the beautiful River Walk and when we would see that there were empty tables go in from the River Walk entrance and have a nice leisurely meal. Earlier tonight my girlfriend went in and sat at one of the empty window tables while I finished my walk. When I came in a few minutes later and joined her we sat for 15-20 minutes without being waited on, so she went to the hostess station in the front of the restaurant and asked for service. The manager, Jeff Brewer, in a most unprofessional and unpleasant manner, told her that we would not be waited on, since we had not come in from the front of the restaurant and registered with the hostess and that we should leave! Needless to say, this was a most hurtful experience that ruined our evening and deeply hurt my girlfriend. In the morning we will contact corporate headquarters and discuss Mr. Brewer's callous incompetence and discuss how the Company might wish to handle customers coming in from the River Walk side so this never happens again. read more

Had a terrible experience at Tony Roma's last night. Granted, it was prom night, so they were busy, but it took 50 minutes for our food to come. When we complained to the waitress, she said, "It's been like this all night, don't worry!" We asked her if there was something we could get for waiting so long and she offered us some bread...no plates for the bread. She said it was STILL going to be 5-10 minutes for our food. After 10 more minutes passed, we talked with the manager. We told him we'd been there over an hour and hadn't gotten our food. He said, "It's only been 35 minutes, I looked at the ticket." My friend told him she asked for no artichokes and they put artichokes on it. He said, "You can't get that dish without artichokes, it comes with them already in it." (Obviously not made fresh then!) NEVER did he or the waitress apologize. So much for the customer is always right. I couldn't believe it. He did offer us free desert. The food was very good, it was just the service that wasn't. We never complain when we go out to eat, but this was ridiculous. read more
