Really enjoyed this salmon bake. We booked this excursion through Princess Cruises. The excursion…read moreincluded transportation to and from the saloon bake. The salmon bake included salad, coleslaw, pickles and olives beet salad, baked beans, rice, cornbread, BBQ ribs, clam chowder, and fire cooked salmon. For dessert there is blueberry cake and to drink there was coffee, hot apple cider, and lemonade. You can buy beer, wine and soda if you wanted that. The hot apple cider was soooo good. The food was all really good. We all had seconds. We really enjoyed this All You Can Eat buffet. There is tons of sitting areas that are covered if the weather isn't great. The day we went to the bake it was very rainy and the covered seating was great. There are also multiple heaters as well. We loved the short walk up to the gorgeous waterfall. The gift shop was cute, but expensive. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly.

Included with this excursion was hiking at Mendenhall Lake then they bussed us to Gold Creek. This was no flashy experience, the weather was cold but not rainy, but the setup was what we expected. It's a buffet style eating option with quite a bit of options. You're bound to find something you like and of course there was plenty of fresh salmon. We were not disappointed with any of the food and in fact went for seconds. It was a nice ending for our day and would potentially visit again if we ever cruise to that port in the future. If you're looking for something exhilarating or exciting, this isn't it. It's laid back and chill providing you with a calm experience. Depending on the time of year you visit, it may be cold and it may or may not be rainy so pack accordingly because I do not believe they offer rain checks. Also they have a nice little scenic trail that you can take a little stroll to walk off all of the food you eat!

Delicious Filipino home cooking in a cozy atmosphere, worth a detour off the beaten path!…read more I read about Valley Restaurant in an Eater article on Filipino/Tlingit cooking that said this is the best place to try the Alaskan style of home-cooked chicken adobo. Let me tell you I was not disappointed! It was a chilly, rainy day and the meal began with a super comforting arroz caldo that felt like a warm hug. This was followed by our order of lumpia that were perfectly crispy and not greasy. Then came the main event: the chicken adobo and fried rice. The chicken has to be some of the best I have ever eaten. Cooked on the bone and bathed in tangy broth, It could not have been more tender and juicy. I went for the upgrade to the fried rice with the meal and it was also excellent.  My partner ordered the Chinese noodles without meat. It was a steamy bowl of tasty broth, noodles, and bok choy. Another perfect choice for a chilly day! The restaurant itself is more or less the sort of roadside diner I grew up with. Booth seating and a big breakfast menu. A stuffed bear greets you at the door.  This is a true locals joint and everyone is friendly. The chef/owner came out and talked to everybody. She beamed with the deserved pride of bringing such pleasure to her friends and patrons.  All in all Valley Restaurant is well worth the detour off you're passing through Juneau and heading out for a hike at Mendenhall Glacier. If I find my way back to Juneau, I will make it my goal to come back to Valley Restaurant.
