Bernadette's is the red capped tent found in Marine Park, right behind the blue tent of Carillo's. For some reason when we visited the park, Carillo's had a huge line (which we joined of course), and Bernadette's was completely empty. Is this an indication of faster service? Or is it because the food is worse? We ended up picking a pork skewer to compare. Pork Skewer ($8) - The first piece I ate seemed to be superior to the Carillo's version - still with the sticky sweet savory sauce, but a fattier and juicier piece of meat in the center. Subsequent pieces destroyed my initial impression. This business seems to be using very low quality cuts of meat, filled with fat and gristle, making the meat very difficult to chew and eat. In addition, some pieces of the meat taste old, as if they are close to rotting, kind of a nasty flavor that made me not want to finish the skewer. I guess the only real advantage as that the skewers they serve are larger than that of Carillo's? (2/5) Well, I certainly learned why the blue tent had a longer line... Maybe the chicken skewers and other food served at Bernadette's are better? I'm not sure, but I certainly won't be revisiting. read more

While we were in Juneau we were looking for a quickish bite to eat. We chose Bernadette's because it had the shorter line of the two food carts (I think only due to location though) and I'm always up for Filipino food. The menu offers most of your popular items. I spied sisig so I definitely had to get an order of that. I also got an order of lumpia and turon. The sisig was a smallish portion wrapped in foil but it was really delicious. This version tasted different than others I've had at restaurants and there was a definite spicy kick to it. The lumpia and turon were also quite good with a crispy outer shell and plentiful filling. Service was friendly and it took a few minutes for the lumpia and sisig to be ready for us and the turon was premade so we only needed to grab one from the stack on the cart. Since Bernadette's is a food cart, you could say the ambiance is the surrounding port area which is a scenic place to sit off to the side and eat your tasty meal. read more

The address is incorrect, they might have moved. Bernadette's is a food cart near the water! It's about a block down from where it says it's supposed to be. It has a menu of combos with pictures hanging above so you can easily choose what you want. It is Filipino BBQ food. A lot of the meat is on skewers, and I didn't know what dinuguan was so I asked and they kindly told me! I ended up ordering chicken and pork skewers with rice and lumpia. The meats were absolutely delicious! They were glazed and you could taste the BBQ flavors. The lumpia was good, but it only comes with one long one. Since it is a food cart, all the seating is outside unless you bring it home. It was a pretty nice day and the park wasn't too packed. There was seating pretty much in every spot. This tent is clearly a favorite amongst cruise ship crew members. The line is constantly long from the time I was here, but my chicken skewer was absolutely delicious. Just as good as we have in Hawaii. Had to wait for it to be ready 5-10 mins but was worth it. read more

Filipino BBQ. They have some other stuff like turon, but that's what we had. The BBQ is pieces of meat (usually chicken or pork), marinated, put on a skewer, and put on a flame. There's was nice. The flavor could have been a little stronger. I suspect the toned down the seasoning compared to what I get at home. But it was good. Fresh and hot. If you're coming from a cruise ship, they are right at the end of the docks. A nice change from cruise food. Even if you're a local, they are probably worth your time to stop and grab a bite. read more

This is definitely one of Juneau's hidden gems. The stars from this establishment are the Deniguan and the meat sticks that are cooked spot on and full of flavor! Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the rest of the menu because there are a couple items that are just out of a freezer bag and have virtually no flavor. All in all if you find yourself in Juneau during tourist season then go to the dock near the wharf and you will see a long line but it is worth the wait. We were just here for the library's free wifi, when we saw the food cart. The smell of the barbeque was enticing. The clincher was the lumpia! I have a pork skewer and my husband had the chicken. Oh the food was very good. The homemade lumpia was amazing.. Being from Southern California, were used to good Filipino food, this little food cart did not disappoint. After talking to the people, we found out they are also from SoCal. Finally recommend this hidden little gem. read more

The Filipino crew on board the Holland America Line cruise recommended this place. The pork inihaw/barbecue skewer was awesome and generously sized and I some of the best dinuguan I've ever had. We bought our food at the cart then went inside to the restaurant and ordered the halo-halo (means "mix mix"cause you have to mix the ingredients) which is a shaved ice dessert with ube (purple yam), corn, coconut, and milk among some of the ingredients. I noticed they had rendang beef on the Indonesian menu but didn't try it. The food cart is open late at night and I'm told the drinkers head there after the leaving the bar. read more

I've been eating at Benadett's carts and her restaurant for years. In the summer i'll eat there 3-4x a week. The food is really good. The customer service however is horrible. The owner is rude. On some days i get a smile. On most days im met with "what do you want!" I've also come to learn, never to even bother eating there when she is having a lunch party with her friends. You could see the disgust, offense in her face when i show up at her restaurant trying to order. Not to mention she always mutters a word i cant understand under her breath. Out of self respect, im doing myself a favor and not eating there anymore. Also i do not recommend anyone eating there. The owner is rude, she looks like a sweet old lady but sadly she is not. read more

If I could thank the young Filipino man (I believe he worked in one of the 4 cruise ships that day, 07/04/13) who pointed us to your restaurant (after we were disappointed to see how long the line was to your barbeque stand) I would profusely thank him for his insight that we were Filipinos (many think I'm Oriental) looking for home made cooking....and we were not disappointed at all! The smell and taste of your sinigang na baboy, chicken adobo and ginisang sitaw with ground beef was to die for, and the reason I gave a 5 star! We are particular about salt intake but everything we ordered was cooked to perfection and didn't need "patis". We had a plate of heaping steamed rice that none of us could finish! The owner (I presumed he was the owner) made every effort to grab some chairs and split the table so my husband and I could eat our lunch sitting down. There were a few Filipinos sitting and not eating (or have eaten) but stay to use their computers, ipads, etc. while some were trying to find seats and tables to eat their lunch. This place is much a "turo-turo" joint and chairs and tables were set along one side of the walkway. After 4 days at sea (my husband and I cruised thru NCL, Vancouver to Whittier) and with the mediocre food they served on the ship my husband and I were extremely happy and satisfied of our experience with Bernadettes! Went here to have a taste of her cooking Filipino food, particularly her pork adobo and halo halo. My impressions were that the adobo sauce was salty and vinegary, that was apparent to my taste buds, the pork I thought was overcooked and on the dry side, as the temperature increases, the moisture get squeezed out of the protein strands. Her halo halo comes in two prices, to dine in in a larger size, or to go in a smaller size. Their halo halo is pretty decent, at first I thought it was mostly ice, but the shaved ice was hiding other sweet treats that I didn't noticed till later when I put the rest in a to go cup, then exposing the other sweet treats hidden before. There was deep fried fish which didn't interest me. I like my fish still filled with moisture, these looked like all the moisture has been long cooked out of them, not my idea of a delicious fish dish. Counter service, order, pay, wait. Bernadette's has two locations. They have a stand right next to Marine View that sells only BBQ skewers, fried lumpia, and rice (things that are cooked on a grill). Then their main restaurant is inside the plaza building where they cook and serve fresh food (cooked to order). Mainly Filipino food (obviously because its owned by Filipinos) but they also serve burgers and fries, and other oriental dishes. Free wifi with every purchase.
