This time we were able to port at Juneau on time and was able to get off and go to Tracy's Crab Shack. We lined up around 9am and the places open at 9:30 even though the sign said 10am. The line moved quick and we were able to get a seat inside. We went with the red and golden crab to see what the difference was besides the price! The red crab was definitely better in terms of taste. The price is ridiculous as the red crab was $90 for a leg and the golden crab was $65 per leg. Since we were here, we had to eat it though. We also got a cup of the crab bisque. It was good and what made it better was putting more crab into it! The bread was realistically just a Hawaiian roll with a little garlic butter. There wasn't enough garlic taste for our liking. We told our friend to make a little crab sandwich with her roll. read more

We just had a red king crab leg, big claw and small claw. It was delicious. Cooked perfectly and meaty, the flavor was robust. The drawn butter made it taste even more succulent. We got there at 950am and we were eating by 1005am. The brunch idea allows for easy access and getting a table It's a fun looking place and we enjoyed our meal. The day I arrived, it was a rainy day, but the line to Tracy's Kong Crab Shack was long. However, the line moved quickly, and our group was able to find a seat. We ordered the extra-large bunker with some crab cakes. Wow, the taste was amazing. The crab legs were huge with lots of meat, and the crab cake was delicious. When we received our order, we were missing some claws, and the server was very accommodating in following up to make it right. Hello from Juneau Alaska, Jen & I are on vacation aboard the Emerald Princess, we did a Glacier Tour this afternoon and with a bit of hiking & walking around in Juneau we were ready for dinner, many spots to choose from but Tracy's King Crab Shack is what we decided on, so off we went and glad we decided on Tracy's, Jen did the ordering and Wow she did great on her choices for dinner, the food was amazing, the shrimp was delicious as well as the crab cakes, French fries were perfectly cooked & crispy and seasoned just right, the Cole slaw was good as well, our server was nice and helpful with a few questions we had. The price for one leg is not cheap though (around $100 for one leg) but since we came all the way out to Juneau, we figured we had to try it out. We were told red king crab season October to April so the legs were flash frozen so we knew we wanted to get some of the fresh Norton sound crab. We bought 2 lbs (4 legs) for $150 Second visit was 1st week in May 2026 (2 years later) they no longer sell by the pound, only by the piece or by the bucket. Tracy's was fine. We tried this place after our whale spotting tour and found the line to be much shorter than during the beginning of the offshore. You will order at the front, and then sit down and wait until they call your order. They bring it it to you and you get to shuckin', smashin, and getting your crab on. We ordered a pound of snow crab and a pound of Dungeness. It was crabby. The order comes with the butter and two biscuits...certainly plenty of crab for two, but if you like crab...maybe not enough. There is a 10% military discount. The servers are all pretty young, and they understand their customers come from the cruise. They were all very friendly. They brought out our food when the orders were up. There is a separate bar area where you can get beer on tap or in cans, merch, and wine. After a few hours at Mendenhall, we came back to Juneau starving. Prior to our cruise we had already made up our mind to hit up Tracy's so off we went. Waited in line for a bit, but not an overly terrible wait. Getting to order, we ended up getting a 3lb bucket of red king crab. The restaurant was pretty busy, but it wasn't too hard to find seating and our order was promptly brought to our table. The bucket came with some rolls and coleslaw, nothing too amazing, but a nice side to the crab. We also got the crab cakes, which were just ok, needed a little more texture to my liking. The crab though, amazing. Tender and delicious, the king crab did not disappoint. This time around they were sold out of the golden king crab, so we only got the red king crab. I wanted Alaskan King Crab for my birthday dinner, so we went to Tracy's King Crab Shack 2. Unfortunately, it had closed early due to inclement weather, and we were disappointed. Thankfully, we called the original Tracy's King Crab Shack, and Jeremy answered. Even though they were about to close the kitchen, he kindly said they would wait for us. We ordered the Red King Crab Combo, the Dungeness Crab Combo, and the Beer Battered Shrimp. Each combo came with crab bisque, crab cakes, and rolls. Everything was delicious, but the Red King Crab was especially juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The place is a simple shack, nothing fancy, but the food and service were both excellent. There have been two seasons where the fisheries were closed due to low biomass and then reduced catch seasons. Which direction the fisheries are heading is unknown. Whether or not we believe in climate change and global warming, the dramatic shifts in weather are affecting our earth and the foods that sustain us. This was our third opportunity to eat at Tracy's. We didn't in 2005 because I thought that the $49 for a crab dinner was too expensive. Skipped it again in 2022 because it was even more expensive and the lines were long. Now, in 2025, Frozen Red King Crab is $49.95lb at Costco. Better give it a try before it's too late. We got off our cruise ship, walked the dock and got straight into line. 11am and it still took about 25 minutes to get inside to place our order. Red King Crab (caught in November last year) is now $85 a pound. However, we were offered fresh crab that was caught that day for only $65 a pound. That's a no-brainer. Why is fresh cheaper than frozen? I would guess that the current catch is not large enough to keep the crab processing plants busy so it's better to eliminate the middleman and sell it cheaper before it spoils. That's a guess on my part. We ordered two pounds of Crab, Crabcakes, and Crab Bisque. The order also came with a pair of Garlic Rolls and Butter. After you place your order and get your drink, find a place to sit. Plan on sharing a table. I highly recommend the crab. Ask for a bib and extra butter, even though you don't really NEED the butter. Skip everything else unless you live somewhere where it's difficult to get fresh crab. Enjoy! read more

What a great experience! We were visiting Juneau and heard great things about Tracy's, so we had to stop in. I was hesitant as I hate "working for my food", but the tool they give you to open the shells with made it really easy. All of the food was fresh and delicious. The Alaskan king crab melted in your mouth, but shockingly, the star of the show for me, was the crab nachos! The pricing is very fair, and the service was quick. They keep the line moving. First time during a cruise ship stop, and already dreaming of the next Alaska cruise to be able to come back. Stood in line for about 10min at 5pm, and was treated by a fairly helpful staff member to navigate the menu. Ordered the king crab bucket for three people, bisque, crab cakes, and tempura shrimp for four adults and two kids, and it was the perfect amount. The food was all incredible. We had a final bill of $300, but the crab bucket alone made it all worth it. The Alaskan king crab was extremely meaty and flavorful, and the crab crackers made it easy to navigate around the sharp shell. Our bucket for three people had about 5.5 legs. It was pretty busy still, and it was tough to find seats outside in a first-come, first-serve seating, but people cycled through really quickly. With self serve fountain drinks, a gift shop, and close proximity to coffee and shopping, this was a comfortable must-stop location in Juneau. Do not miss out on this. read more

This trip, 4/30/25, I got the Golden King Crab Combo ($84) plus Snow Crab legs ($40). Snow Crab Legs: is amazing. Doesn't need butter or anything. Just pure perfection. 5/5 stars Golden King Crab: probably like the Alaskan King Crab - overrated. I'm sorry, but I think it's true!! It's sweet, salty, and certainly decadent to eat every now and then, but it's difficult to get the meat out. They're like roses of the sea - looks good, but it'll hurt ya. I suggest bringing your own utensils for this because their plastic tools just don't cut it. 3.8/5 stars Crab Bisque: unfortunately, this chowder wasn't to my taste. It was just too salty for me to stomach. But I've seen people enjoy this. I just wish I could have given it to someone else. 2.5/5 stars Mini Crab Cakes: this was heavily breaded and, while there were real crab meat in the patties, it was still too salty and too fatty for me to finish. Not for me. 2/5 stars Overall, a good experience, but the prices are wild! Definitely tourist prices at a tourist destination. But....I think I'd come back the next time I'm in Juneau. The world famous Tracy King Crab! Pulling up in Juneau , it was raining so the line was not very long so we decided to give it a try. Waiting we got a chance to watch the cook steam the crab and the process of how many crabs they steamed is mouthwatering. Pricey , Pricey, Pricey! We decided on a combo meal. The crab cakes in my opinion was fried to hard but the crab was very fresh and moist . The crab bisque was delicious. It could have been hotter. Building did have plenty of seating and as long as customers eat and get up ( no table hogging) you could sit and enjoy your meal. Souvenirs were available for purchase. Enclosed Patio seating was optional. Staff were friendly and after ordering it was not a long wait. The whole process I will give a 6/10 . Tracy's King Crab Shack was highly rated so we decided to hop in line. After reading the descriptions we opted to try a pound Golden King Crab and a crab cake sandwich. The line was about 10 people deep when we got in line, but it moved quickly. We ordered and found a table. The food was ready in under 10 minutes. We were given the crab leg cracker, but dang those spikes on the legs were quite the challenge. You really need to work at the legs for the meat. Now, I am really not a seafood eater. I just don't enjoy it unless it's deep fried and covered in sauce, but I wanted to have the real King Crab experience. I have to say I was shocked. I actually really liked the Golden King Crab. The meat was sweet and fresh. There was no odd fishy flavor or smell. I enjoyed the crab served warm and with butter. It really was perfect. After trying the King Crab, the crab cake sandwich was just not for me. It was too fishy and not to my liking. The Golden King Crab is the true star. Service was quick and friendly. There are handwashing stations near the drink fountain so you can ensure your hands are cleaned before leaving. There is a second counter for beer and for merchandise. My Juneau experience needed to include Tracy's King Crab Shack. I had read all the reviews and knew this was the place. Located right on the pier where the cruise ships dock. Yes it was raining, yes there was a long line, however, this only added to the moment and I was prepared to wait as long as needed. Very well organized and our wait was far less than expected. They suggest you order 1lb crab per person. We ordered the 3lb bucket of Red King Crab Legs. This also included Cole slaw, warm garlic rolls, melted butter, and the largest crab legs you can imagine. Succulent and delicious and served warm! I noticed people who ordered less than the bucket instantly regretted it. The crab legs were amazing. Photos to prove it! We also ordered a side of nine little crab cakes, wonderful. The focus was the crab of course and exceeded our very high expectations. We had an Alaskan cider, semi sweet was the flavor and the most delicious I've ever tasted. Teamed perfectly with the crab. Is this an expensive meal, yes.
