Perfectly serviceable, nicely priced food. It's a fine spot if you're in the area or coming from the airport, but it's not worth going out of your way. I've been there three times. The first time I loved it and it reminded me of a place I used to go as a kid. The next two times were much more generic. I do appreciate the cheap beers and fast prep. Service doesn't mess around either - they make sure they're making what you ordered. The ambiance is also lacking. I thought since the restaurant smelled so good when I walked in that I was in for a nice treat. We're new to the area, and have been seeing Boy's Hamburgers as we drive downtown, and yesterday I was in the mood for a burger and fries, so I talked hubs into stopping in. At first we were fine, happy even. We ordered, then went to sat down. Unfortunately, the television in the area we sat in was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk, so we got up and moved. No harm, no foul, right? The food hadn't even arrived yet. We had been at the new table a few minutes when the lady who took our order came over and said, "You need to go back to where you were." "The TV is too loud, if you want us to go back, you have to turn it down." I said. We were okay though, she went and turned it down and soon after they brought us our food. We just figured since we were one of two parties in the restaurant they wanted to keep that section closed. We finished eating, and were honestly not that impressed. It was fine and didn't cost that much. I wouldn't have thought anything more of the experience except a family walked in and sat where we were asked to move from. I watched but the woman had NO problem with them sitting there. Clearly, the only problem this woman had was with us. So, I have no idea why she asked us to move. It could've been she was having a bad day, and we looked like an easy target. Maybe she is just a general b*sh. I suspect this is just someone who likes to control everyone around her, but dang, I'm a 54 year old man, my days of being bossed around just so some nasty person can get off on it are way over! We won't be going back. Here's the deal, there are a LOT of wonderful greasy spoons in Cathedral City and Palm Springs and there's NEVER a good excuse for poor customer service. Telling us to leave a place, just for the fun of it... well it feels like discrimination at worst, and bad service at best. Regardless, they lost a potential customer and we LOVE our greasy spoons. It was very easy to spot from the road and had lots of parking. Walking in it was super clean and smelled yummy. Lots of seating inside and outside with ceiling fans. Was able to order easily and with soooo many options. The woman who took my order was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She took the order and got everything right. She was also who served us and she did amazing. My partner and I never had an empty drink and got so many condiments. The food was hot and fresh. The burger was cooked perfectly and the fries were perfectly seasoned. I got a lunch box that gave me a bit of all the sides (zucchini, fries, onion rings) and it did not disappoint. I got there before 6:30am opening. Waited 5 minutes even but doors were still locked. No biggie. But the lady there doesn't even greet you. She moves at a snails pace, doesn't even look you in the eye. Looks like she's close to rolling her eyes at you at simple requests. I saw they had a special for the club sandwich and asked for that and she looked like it bothered her. Barely says a word to you. The fries are cold and hard. Flavorless. First time here. I had been told it was better than the norm. It was good at best. Middle of the road. The dining area was clean but dated. The staff was the best part of this visit. Very happy, helpful and attentive. Since it was our first time they answered our food questions thoroughly. The meal, was your normal 'burger stand' type fare. Prepared and served timely and satisfying just nothing to really write home about. A good meal at a fair price. Nothing flashy, stunning or memorable. We shared the fish dinner. Overall it was a good sized meal. The fish portions were lacking a little. The salad, fresh and decent. It came with their 'fry mix'. A load of French fries, fried zucchini, onion rings and to my surprise, mushrooms! A nice touch. But again, nothing out of the ordinary. One of the few places in the desert that offers good food at a decent price, and good portion sizes. It may be just like any other grill type of establishment, ie goody's, John's chelo's, that's exclusively a desert thing, but the reason why I come back, is the lunch box combo meal. My go to is the double hamburger lunch box, and an Arnold Palmer to wash it down with. Dipping sauce is their ranch, which is a tad watery, but nonetheless a tasty dipping sauce. The staff is super accommodating and friendly, always checking up on you to see how you're doing and asking if you need a refill on your drink, and I even got a chance to watch a little bit of Jurassic park when I was there ( it was showing on tbs). My only beef (no pun intended) is the dimly lit dining area inside some parts of the restaurant. Mind you, it does give it that charm of an old school 70's vibe, but for some of us that maybe physically or visually impaired, it's something to consider when dining there at night. Ample seating and well stocked with amenities, I recommend them for some good food, and good vibes and again, one of those desert staples that has been in the same spot for as long as I can remember. Boy's hamburgers is a diner style restaurant with American and Mexican dishes. I ordered the hamburger combo for $8.85, which comes with a side of fries and a drink. I also added cheese on my burger which was an additional 65 cents. My boyfriend ordered the chicken burrito and 2 Cabeza tacos. After you order your meal at the register and decide to dine in, they provide table service and unlimited drink refills. Our server was very nice and came by our table often to refill our drinks despite her being busy working the register. My burger and fries were sizable portions that filled me up well. My cheeseburger tasted very good, and the fries were thick and crispy. The chicken burrito was also very filling but was too greasy. We were disappointed that the burrito fell apart at the bottom while trying to eat it because of the amount of grease that soaked through the tortilla. In addition, their chicken could have been season more. As for the Cabeza tacos, I actually enjoyed them, but was also on the overally greasy side. It's been wonderful to have this place nearby, where neighbors can commune over good meals in a shady spot, six feet apart from each. But with just the patio available there's only room for a few of us at a time. Suggestion: eat tons of vegetables - and stick to high protein meals as much as you can when eating out, especially now. It's been clear for months that sugar/carb addicts (like people who are overweight and tend to develop diabetes) are at high risk of a bad outcome from COVID. If you don't wreak havoc on your immune system with junk food and other terrible habits, and you avoid heavy exposure to the virus, then you're far more likely to be lightly exposed eventually and just get a mild case like the vast majority of people do. read more

Grammy loves her pastrami sandwiches. Came from Ontario to visit my Grandmother down in Cathedral City for her 80th Birthday and took her to do a little shopping. She asked if my son and I were hungry then said she could go for the Pastrami Box from Boy's Hamburgers (a lot of food I'm sure she won't eat). I have never heard of this place, but she did mention my grandfather use to take her here. Once we arrive, we got out of the car and walked up, and noticed it was stairs at the front entrance, my grandmother has bad knee and still managed to climb up. The food swings open towards you once you get to the top of the third stair so I highly suggest you pay attention and be careful (one wrong step and I'm sure you'll fall). Once we got in, we notice there was another entrance with a handicapped ramp that you can use as well. We ended up ordering three pastrami sandwiches, and one Jr. cheese hamburger with fries and a pink lemonade for my son. The nice young lady who took our order was very patient and sweet. As I sat down to wait for our food I realized Grammy ordered three I asked why did we order three, turns out she was saving the other one for her dinner. The food here at Boy's Hamburger is extremely filling. I was very happy with my sandwich didn't have to much mustard or pickles and I ended up eating half then the other have for dinner. Oh Boy oh Boy's the food here is plentiful and delicious. Only been here once but want to try everything now. This diner has exactly what you want with them greasy goodies that will keep you happy and full. Got the steak and eggs and the steak was not bad at all. For the price it was just as good as some so called lower tier "steakhouses". The steak ranchero was riquísimo and will satisfy those big eaters out there. On top of that it is not that expensive as you will definitely get your money's worth. The staff is also very friendly and great at buttering up all the items on the menu.
