Finally was in town when they were open! Brought my friend so she could taste a delicious French dip! It didn't disappoint. Fast friendly service. Very old timey feel. We both ordered the beef dip and I ordered a pastrami to go for the mister. Can't forget the potato salad. All was delicious! I traveled back to Vegas with his food and he devoured it. I said guess it was good? We had tried to go one time on a Sunday which is when they are closed. Will make sure to stop in when in town again! Love the Dodger and Angel decor too. Just heard about Tony's recently and decided to try it out while I was in the neighborhood. I can't believe I've missed it all these years, especially growing up in the area. We ordered two beef dips with potato salad and macaroni salad and everything was delicious. Beef dip had a good portion of meat on fresh bread, along with the au jus making it a simple but perfect sandwich. Potato salad was done right and my kids said the macaroni salad was really good. Even the pickle served on the side was good. Staff were friendly and service was efficient, we received our food shortly after ordering. Lots of open seating, with additional seating area over on the side. It has a cool old school deli vide with a hometown feel, and we loved all the memorabilia, Dodger's bobble heads and old photos. Been in my bookmarks list for sometime and I'm always on the hunt for a good sandwich. This spot is nearby where I work so I decided to try it today. I ordered the beef dip sandwich and potato salad and it came out to about $16. I also asked for horseradish, hot mustard, and a pickle on the side. I thought the sandwich was a perfect size and the roast beef in it was a generous amount. The au jus was really good as it wasn't salty at all and it had a good beefy flavor. The restaurant has plenty of seating and the staff was very polite. I get a really homey/family feeling with the staff, so you know they'll take care of you. The vibe is very similar to Philippe's out in LA. The only thing that affected me was that there wasn't really any parking on the street. The oldest restaurant in Pomona, pumping out French Dips since 1958. This was my first time here. The place is very old school, in a divey neighborhood. Easy to park on the street and not crowded at all during the weekday lunch hour. Very nice staff, including one kind lady that has worked here for 50 years. Lots of seating and decorated like a place from the distant past. I loved it. I opted for the 1/2 and 1/2 so I was able to try both the pastrami and beef dip. The sandwich was delicious, but expensive. $17 for the sandwich, aju, pickle spear, peppers and a small potato salad. Honestly, you get a much bigger sandwich for $12 at The Hat but I enjoyed my meal nonetheless. I love old school places like this. read more

The 4.3 stars lured me to this spot. It's pretty divey inside, which gives it some charm I suppose. Two ladies were working the day I visited. 1 cashier and 1 sando prep. I ordered the 1/2 beef 1/2 pastrami dip. One sip of the au jus told me it was not going to be a good sando. The beef was typical roast beef. Nothing special. The pastrami was overly fatty. Not the melt in your mouth, delicious buttery fatty. The opposite of that. The bread was horrible. Really chewy and a taste like it wasn't baked long enough. I DO NOT like writing negative reviews, especially for small family businesses since I consider these kinds of small mom & pop shops as truly where dreams are made. The service and the folks who work here are great. I want to acknowledge how kind and warm they are. Maybe I didn't order right, but I figure when French Dip is in the name of the business that's what I should order. The beef French dip was served on fairly good bread, but the beef was only okay and the au jus was more flavorless broth than anything else. I have been a fan since my grandfather first took me here maybe 50 years ago. It was a favorite lunch destination for him and others that worked at Wayne Sweeper Company in Pomona. My wife and I got there just before closing on Friday and the owners were just wonderful. My wife went in to order our food to go, and I stayed in the car with Hank the HR dog. They talked favorite French dips and gave her some pasta salad to take with her. My wife had the French dip and I had the turkey dip. The sandwiches were meaty moist and delicious. We enjoyed the pasta salad they gave us to try and the potato salad I ordered, which was as good as I remembered. I have been going here for as long as I can remember. The must have for me is the Beef dip and coleslaw but the potato salad is good as well. The ladies behind the counter are so helpful and I have achieved the "mijo" status since I go there when in town. They remember my order and if you eat there you can get an iced mug for your rootbeer. The seating is a history of Pomona the walls are covered and tell an amazing story. You see graffiti everywhere and homeless but I felt safe it's just part of pomona.. they survived covid but since covid they lost business now they are only open till 3. The cook in the back has been here for 50 years and she is in her 80's. They are famous for their beef dips and potato salad.. I can see why both were very good. The potato salad we were told people buy it by the gallons it's a secret recipe that remains a secret to this day. The rolls are fresh which makes the sandwich a perfect combination. Very nostalgic place, the owner is very sweet and has been running this establishment for countless years. Very historic place as you walk in it's like stepping into a Time Machine, from the posters and pictures on the wall to the classic table setup and decor. Reminded me of the old times going to the local place after playing little league baseball. Not to mention it is near a popular youth Baseball field! I no longer live in the area but when I was in high school (Claremont HS) my dad had a shop in Pomona less than a mile away from Tony's and this was back in the late 60s and he would take us to lunch there quite often. I just remember how good everything tasted along with the beef dip, especially the potato salad and at the time I believe they had what seemed to be a homemade garlic pickle? Everything was awesome tasting and the floor always had sawdust on it around the tables and chairs. Great place that I miss a lot. read more

I've lived here, within 2 miles of this gem, 33 years and never knew it existed. My family would go all of the way to Phillipies in downtown L.A. for dips and pickled eggs. The only 2 things they don't have that Philippies has is crowds and pork sandwiches. The woman was patient with me since it was my first time there and I was the only customer there at 2p.m. They have a bell to ring outside of the door for people who need help in with wheelchairs or walkers and for being a small place, they actually have an ADA approved table, (the accessibility sign is on the wrong table though). You first walk in and there is no menu to be found so you're just standing there looking at the menu through Google or Yelp. The atmosphere is old decor with saw dust everywhere, trash on the floor with some dead bugs on the floor. Good thing was the tables were clean. Service was okay the old lady's working the counter were nice but didn't understand each other well. They kept going back & forth & repeating the order to each other which all we got was 2 of the same sandwiches & potato/pasta salad. Overall the only thing I liked was the potato salad & the pickle.
