Discovered La Verne's grandest new restaurant by happy serendipity- My Uber Eats gig had summoned me to ferry an order to the exquisite Gordon Highlands gated community that sits astride Glendora like a monarch. Si Roma heralds itself as "Italian Street Sandwiches," but if THESE lightly toasted beauties on warmed, lightly toasted crackly Schiacciata Tuscan bread are "street," than they're pure "WALL STREET" because these are magnificent. The service is stellar. I wound up placing my online, takeout order within moments of striking up a delightful conversation w/ Johnnie, the proprietor/chef. We'd commiserated over scenic stops in Spain, prompted by an Espana shirt I'd worn. Imagine my surprise when I returned, post-delivery of initial customer's order up to the Gordon Highlands, to find my takeout bag marked "Scottie." Mind you, I'm on the back side of my latter fifties amd the only folks on this planet who call me "Scottie" are my much beloved two brothers + sister, all older (and uglier, wink) than your Favorite Yelp Correspondent. Gotta love the chutzpah! I went with a Turkey Allora, featuring her herbed turkey, melted mozz, creamy ricotta and housemade pesto atop that wickedly delish Schiacciata bread. Dipsh*t here had them add mayo to my sando...subbing it for pesto. I violated my own cardinal rule when ordering at new venues- Accept the food as the CHEF intended. It's a decent sandwich, but if you're looking for amazing and flavorful combos like at All'Antico Vinaio or Mamie, you'll be disappointed. Not the same kind of Italian sandwich. These are pretty basic. We ordered the Hungry Terrone and the Si Roma Deluxe. Off the bat, filling was meager compared to pics online. Should be used to that kind of advertising, but for $15+ per sandwich and the basic fillings, I'd say not worth the price. Stirato bread was soft and made for an easy bite except for all the excess flour that would stick to my lips with each bite. Main takeaway was that at first glance, most of the sandwiches had basically the same fillings: mozzarella, ricotta, homemade pestos (mine was barely detectable), and tomato. Pretty basic. Some did have other things like stracciatella or different pesto, artichoke, but the majority had a pretty basic base, just a different kind of meat. Service was friendly. They had run out of chips so we couldn't make ours a combo, but not their fault. Ambiance was no frills, but they did just open. It was clean. Didn't try any of their desserts, but they did look pretty good. Overall, it was a good tasting sandwich but I feel like these would be easily recreated at home for less. For convenience, go for it at least once and decide if it's worth it for you. 4-star worthy, but had to knock it to 3 because I can't justify the price for what you get. Personally, I'd rather spend more money on the gas to drive to All'Antico Vinaio or Mamie. Those are worth the price to me. Or go for "the sandwich" from Roma Market. A simple, tasty little sando for $6. read more

Finally we have a bomb sandwich spot in La Verne! Don't get me wrong I love Papas Best and The Brick but they sell different style of sandwiches there. Bread is airy and the prosciutto is amazing id say I like the deluxe more although the other variant is good too! Cheese and pesto were amazing touches to the sandwich. Please support the business since they are fairly new! Will be coming back for more. I'd say I was caught off guard that there is a massage chair in their restaurant, maybe take that off lmfao. After reading about this new eatery via the Nextdoor app I decided to give it a try. I ordered the SI ROMA sandwich. The sandwich ingredients was light handed - one slice of prosciutto, a thinly slice of tomato, a quick squeeze of pesto, a thinly sliced mozzarella cheese on a flour covered loaf of stirato. They were all amazing and were really hustling to get everyone served. They came out and handed waters out to the people waiting in line. This sandwich was very unique with peaches on it. I almost went for the regular without peaches, but I read the reviews at their Glendale location and the peaches really made it great. One sandwich was a little much for me. Picked up my order about 30 min ago, got home and absolutely devoured my sandwich. Ordered two sandwiches Si Roma, and Va Bene. Decided to eat the Va Bene first and it so so good. Bread is nice and soft with a slight crisp, and pesto tastes fresh, and not oily like many jarred pesto. Cheese added a nice creaminess, and the salami a welcomed saltiness, all tied together with some fresh tomato. Was damn near a perfect sandwich. Got there a little after 2pm. A line out in the 96 degree sun of about 20 or so, & I expect some inside also. Talked to a guy coming out with his sandwiches, he was stoked but said they were out of a lot of items, and he waited over an hour. We really wanted to try it, but it just was too much at that point.
