Very disappointed . I went there this evening to get two pounds of Swiss cheese. The woman behind the deli in the cheese area all closed up, and it was about 8:55 PM. She refused to help me, until I insisted on a manager. And on top of that, she was very difficult to understand. Horrible English. I won't be back. Tony's has shanghai choy on sale for 99 cents/lb. (July 9, 2025 ad). So after checking out I noticed that I was overcharged for the package of Shanghai choy. The package weighed 1.87 lbs., but I was charged $3.72. I weighed the package and it was 1.8 pounds, but on the receipt it had the weight as 3.76 pounds. When I showed the difference in weight to Customer Service, they insisted that the package was right. I pointed to the weight on the package and the price in the their ad. .99 x 1.87 = $1.85, NOT $3.72. They cannot do basic math. Customer service is horrendous at the Hanover Park store. read more

I understand rules but for $6 they could have done something to appreciate the patriotism. Also, 2 days before I was sitting in my car in the parking lot and I felt a thump in the rear of my car. I looked up and the young man getting the carts out of the cart return had bumped them into my car. He had to know I was in the car as it was running and I was in the drivers seat. It's Christmas Eve. I'm from out of town. I need some basics for my family. The store is packed, the line to checkout was a little long which is totally reasonable. Stephanie the cashier is a saint and she deserves better than to work for such a ridiculous company. Turns out you need to have the Tonys app to get the deals they advertise. Apparently Tonys is unaware that this isn't a Jewel Osco in 1997. I was told I'd need to download the app and sign up in order to get the deal. It's Christmas Eve and the place is packed. So they want me to download an app on my phone in order to be able to buy soda at the advertised price. No. That's insane. Then to give the runaround too? Insane. The two employees I dealt with were wonderful. However giving them such a stupid and customer-ruining directives is stupid. I come to Tony's because it's close to home. I like that they have a great produce with a lot of different selections and the fruit or vegetables aren't going bad or smushed or frozen up and put out so they seem good. I like getting salsas there makes it convenient just a bit pricey but what can we do with everything going up. The bakery is super hard passing and not getting something. The flan here I highly recommend it's very delicious. I also get the bollio or sesame rolls super soft. The deli department most of the time it's busy but it goes quick. Love that they know how to cut thin ham without breaking into pieces. Great prices on deli products. The hot food ready to go looks good. I never had any except for the Puerto Rican rice which is super delicious and it's a must have. They have a sushi section haven't tried it yet. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because of the meat department the carniceros or the guys who cut the meat most of them are okay but one of them has a very sarcastic attitude and they way he talks to the women customers not so polite and could get you in trouble if one of them was to complain. Other than that I recommend coming to Tony's for there deli, produce, bakery, hot food and meat. This grocery store has many oriental foods, pots, fresh seafood, vegetables, rice, and baked goods. I came here in a time crunch looking for bread and a few quick vegetables, I could use to whip up dinner. There were many different kinds of bread. There were lots of variety of pastries, cakes, and other baked goods. I bought quite a lot of bread and all for a good price. 3/$1! What a steal!! i also bought a3 Horse Rice. It was very delicious and came in a big bag of 25 lbs. the store is clean and organized for the most part. They have a very large selection of meat and seafood. Everything is fresh and ready to buy. All the fruits and vegetables are priced reasonably. The staff is very nice and friendly. Most of the staff speak Spanish and English very helpful !! The cashiers were all very nice. Beyond bad customer service behind the meat counter. Wednesday night, I was next to be served and a customer made a big stink at the seafood counter so the older gentleman tended to her and skipped me. I went to ask a passing employee if there is a manager, he replied - not here today. Another lady walks up and was tended to right away by a younger beardedI butcher. I expressed my frustration throwing up my arms as in WTH. The younger bearded employee walks over like a thug, waiving his arms and shouts at me - if you don't like it, then talk to management!! That is a completely unacceptable behavior. My friend pulled me away before the guy embarrasses himself even more as there were onlookers. I've experienced good and poor customer service at this Tony's but never the ones in the city. Another situation on a different day, I asked an employee where to find a certain item. He replied "I don't know" and walks aways. This was another example of very poor customer service. I've read negative reviews from 2yrs ago and more recent ones and apparently management must condone this sort of behavior. What was even more embarrassing was I was introducing this Tony's to a friend that recently moved out to the burbs. The first impression pretty much helped her make a decision to drive further out to Fiesta, Caputo's or Valli's. NOTE TO MANAGEMENT- I understand good help is hard to find but please train proper customer etiquette to your butchers. A "I'm sorry" instead of waiving your hands and screaming at a customer. I come to Tony's alot to by grocery's and money orders as well as shop at the hot bar after i workout at la fitness next to them. I went in to find a sale on the don julio liqur a couple days ago and i asked for a case of it. the store manager Ernesto said he would check in the back to see if they had 1, isaid if you don't ill take all mostly all the bottles in the glass case. He said no you cant. There is no limit on the sale price on how many you can buy; so, he points to his name tag which says manager and i guess that meant he is in charge and can make the final say. i said i should be able to and after some word exchange, he says then you can't get any, i called the Schamburg store and spoke with a great employee angel and he said he would order me a case or i could get the ones he had. i called corporate and still waiting on a call. terrible service at Hanor park location! read more

I really didn't see better prices there but then this happened: Very rude cashier wouldn't clean the conveyor that had blood from last persons meat on it . Made some ignorant remarks. Acted like that was an unreasonable request and called the manager , who thought it appropriate to snicker and whisper with the rude cashier. She makes self-checkout a lot more appealing. We came here to get some rice for our home. Today the store was much busier than a normal day and I could not find any shopping cart available. Thanks to the coronavirus, I guess. The staff wasn't as friendly as usual they were a bit cranky. The food price was not much different than others. We were not able to get around the isles to get extra food because the store was so crowded. When it came to check out, people lined up the isles and the lines were so incredibly long. We ended up waiting for almost 40 minutes and about half of the line has moved. Other than the chaos, it was a fine experience. Can't blame the store for the disatrophe. Tony's is the grocery store that I've been looking for and wanting. First, this place is huge and clean. The prices on produce rival Valli without having to fight your way through large crowds. Also, I don't have the fear of being rear ended like that other chaotic parking lots. Don't get me wrong. Mariano's is great but they don't have as much variety as I'm looking for. At Tony's, they have a wide range of items since they cater to a large ethnic population. You can get seasoned arrachera for tacos, beef shanks for osso buco, and a huge section of imported cheeses and pastas/noodles. They will even trim and tenderize your meat for free which is a huge plus. This place is truly a dream for the cooking enthusiast like myself. read more

I must say that they have a wonderful selection of fresh and high-quality seafood, some of their meats and deli, and their produce. This could be a great grocery store for me since it is just a few miles away, but what I did not lie about is the service. The people here are somehow rude, which I did not really like. I do not say all the staff here, but the majority of the people I talked to inside were really a bit off. I was just asking nicely about something a lot of times, and I get a response that is sarcastic. I would definitely have the guts to come back after the kind of treatment I received. When I shop for groceries, I look for competitive pricing. In this regard, Tony's has really changed for the better over recent years. There once was a time that I would not go in this store. However, the last couple of years I have found the fresh produce section to be beyond reproach. There is great variety, fair pricing and nice "curb appeal". It's local and has a good variety of foods. A bit over priced on sodas and things like shampoo and toiletries are a bit high. The buy two and save only applies if you do by the two items or pay full price for one. Little things make the customers happy. Went there today and the two guys running the meat counter had a double ticket number calling going on. My wife had number 36 and they were calling numbers in the fifties. People were coming in after her and getting waited on before her. I had to approach the counter guy and help my wife, the seem prejudice against her and she felt really bad about it. Managers, you need to straighten out your meat counter guys they make your store look bad. It was very crowded there today for 7 am and tons of people in line to check out. Guess what. I shop at Tony's every week but because of my recent experience I will not be back. I wanted to buy Salmon and no packages were out to choose from so I guess I will get some cut fresh I sat by counter with 3 meat cutters ignored me for 10 minutes so I ask manager if fish counter was closed. I was told workers are there to help why would I ask for help if I was being helped so I said I guess I need to go to another store to get Salmon and still no help so I went to Jewel but I wanted to get what I had in my cart but no cashier at 9am so I had to go to self checkout. Machine kept malfunctioning unexpected in baggage area. Worker there that is supposed to help just sat there and wouldn't clear Machine when I said please clear Machine she looked at me like I am an Idiot. So I left all my groceries and left. Items I truly enjoy at Tony's I can't find anywhere else as closer than having to go to HMart or Jerry's are anejos, Thai Chili's, Chinese veg, Italian herbs, grave lox, Bulgarian feta, farmers cheese, olives, tropical fruits, jicamas, squash, drupes, Latino yams/peppers, enoki mushrooms etc, ... so even though I get bored with this place for the same old same old & am reminded of Lewis in Waukegan for some reason, it's still manages to be a place I frequent because of some necessity, aside from oils, ethnic veg & grocery, as well European coffee on sale & desirable. My long time childhood friend who lives nearby, asked me several month ago..."have you been to our new grocery store?" To which I replied "what new grocery store?" "Tony's Finer Foods at Irving and Barrington Road! We love it. You gotta check it out!" So off we go, the next day to check out the new place. It's located in where Cub Foods and Ultra Foods was previously located near the Chase bank. In fact, there is a Chase branch now inside Tony's if you need to do any banking while running your errands and they even have the new ATM that you can deposit checks directly into and in some cases, the money is immediately available! Ok, so back to Tony's....this store is one of my favorite grocery stores in the area. I'm so over Valli and Caputo's is just to damn crowded and dirty for my liking anymore. Tony's is still new so it's pretty clean. The people that work here do a very good job of stocking the groceries, produce, you name it. Things are pretty easy to find as they have some of the aisles broken down by country. It's pretty cool actually! My one tip for you shoppers is that once you get through the produce area, you can't access it any other way than through the bakery area, so make sure you get everything you need while you're in that department cause when you make it up front by the bread, it's a long walk back to the tomatoes if you need to get something additional. I really like their deli. This is where we typically pick up all our deli meats/cheeses and meats. They have a wide variety of any kind of ham, turkey, chicken, beef, salami, you name it! They carry all of the standard brands like Sara Lee, Boar's Head, Butterball, Jenni-O and many others. They also have their own homemade meats that we have tried and like a few of them. Everyone is different and I'm a pain in the ass when it comes to my deli meats, so I can't tell you what's good and not here because I don't like a lot of things for my own reasons. I typically stick to the boars head brand and Wisconsin cheese (Munster, Brick or Colby Jack). Their meat and fish department is also pretty extensive. They have pre marinated/seasoned meat for tacos al pastor or chorizo and they also have things like steaks, ground beef and Italian sausage. Their Italian sausage is something we often pick up for pasta. Their pricing is totally reasonable on all of these things. They have a nice selection of ice cream treats and a full liquor department. My complaints are that I have found a few expired items on the shelves and their baggers need to learn how to better bag groceries. I often end up with smashed bread because they out canned items in the same bag as the bread. I have also bought some ice cream and sherbet that we found was freezer burned when we opened it at home. Of course, the receipts are long gone by then and its not worth the gas to bring things back that are worth a few bucks. I just have to be more careful with these items on the shelves and stick to the products we know turn over like produce and deli items. read more

Store review: Not just another grocery store. This location previously housed Cub Food and Ultra Food all which have gone belly up. If Tony keeps up the quality and the low prices, it should survive in this tough market. The store is super large and well stocked with a large fresh produce section that rivals Valli. I bought organic cottage cheese yesterday and when i opened it today it was green ( expired a week ago) ! this is the third time i buy expired products( one of them was baby yogurt). For the most part, this is a fine store with plenty of great sales. Staff is professional and quite helpful. Although it appears they employ a lot of very young kids, they are often quite professional, as well. I truly thank the entire staff for their dedicated service on Christmas Day. After having numerous racist incidents at the Seafood department with one of the men who works behind the counter, I had to give this store 1 star. This particular worker constantly belittles and treats any customer of Asian descent with absolutely no respect, making rude remarks hinting at how they can't follow directions or understand his English. And God forbid, if someone forgets to take a ticket and wait in line when theres no one else at the counter, he will bark at you to go grab one. I have seen this behavior from the same man EVERY SINGLE TIME and it seems to be mainly with Asian people. I finally had the pleasure today (8/18/18) of directly dealing with him when my mother attempted to purchase seafood. My mother is not a native English speaker, but can speak and comprehend basic English fine. When he called her ticket number ("09"), my mother wasn't paying attention but I was, so I told her, and she went up to him with her ticket. I walked away from the counter, thinking she could handle everything else. It wasn't until I heard him snidely say "UHM NO. That's a "60" you need to wait in line for a long time". I turned as I saw him wave her away dismissively. What totally blew my mind was when he ignored her and continue calling out later numbers. I was confused and thought maybe he read her ticket wrong so I immediately went up there and told him "Sorry no, but this is a '9'...". Instead of apologizing which would indicate he made a mistake, he tried to cover his a$$ by rudely saying, "WELL I was calling number 9 many times and no one was listening. That's a "9" right?! How come you weren't listening?". Yeah, okay. I'm sure you had other things to do than your ACTUAL JOB. I'm also sure you didn't expect an Asian person to actually call you out for your bulls***. I actually came here specifically to get a cake from the bakery, and stood waiting at the counter because no one was there. I went to a nearby employee and asked if the bakery was open, and he went back behind the bakery for a few minutes and then returned and told me someone was coming. After waiting around for even longer, I just left. I think I waited for about 30 minutes total. Maybe the bakery is great, but if no one's working there it doesn't matter. The layout of the store is kind of a headache, you have to go around the entire store to check out. It does have a good selection of international products, so if you're looking for a specific import, it could be a good place to go. For basic non-imports that you can find anywhere, the prices aren't great. To be honest, I'm probably not coming here again. read more

I never thought these words would utter from my mouth... but I am in love with a grocery store. I am literally finding reasons to visit this place, all I want to do is make a gourmet dinner from Tony's every day of the week. The biggest produce section I have ever seen in my life and the prices are oh so cheap. The bakery is not expensive, always samples around, and they have some of the best cannolis! They have regular, chocolate dipped, and white chocolate dipped. I could also eat their Onion Buns every day of my life (though I'm sure my stomach wouldn't like that)... packed with flavor, chewy, perfect with a burger.. and cheap to boot as well, I think they are 3 for $1. The deli is insanely cheap AND courteous. We originally opted for an oven-roasted turkey breast from some higher up brand and the employee offered us their turkey since it was $1.00 cheaper per pound. We said yes, of course, and then he goes "oh try some too, just to make sure its to your liking." I have never been around that great of customer service at a deli before. The Tilapia we have gotten there is HUGE and incredibly meaty, decently priced too. I could go on and on and on ... just go here, get some great food, and save yourself some money!! read more

I came in asking for pomegranate seeds and the guy in produce waved his hand at the rest of the store and said maybe they're over there because they're not in produce. Then I walk all the way over to the section where they have the ice cream and the guy stocking ice cream and I asked him if he knows where the pomegranate seeds are at and he said I think they're in produce and I told him that the guy in produce told me they were over here. After standing there uncomfortably an awkwardly for two minutes while he was thinking and saying he didn't know and that it was only his second day finally I asked if there was somebody who he maybe could ask so he went over to the guy in the next aisle over and asked and he didn't know but finally he said that he was going back and check with somebody.
