Disappointing after all I'd heard about them. More expensive than most groceries with a smaller selection. It didn't help that I stopped here on the way home from the nearby Woodman's. There are some bargains if you look hard I guess, and they do have a decent bakery. read more

My mom has shopped at this store for many, many years. On a recent trip up to Chicago, I wanted to check out this Caputo's that had been renovated last year. The outside has a new curvy design that expands from one end of the store to the other. The entrances are back behind it. They made some nice changes indoors too. There is a new seating area up front where you can sit and enjoy a snack that you just purchased. Perhaps a Gelato from the new gelato counter located right up front near the Produce dept.? Sadly I didn't get to try any but definitely will next visit. The Produce department is definitely the shining star here. Everything is arranged so beautifully! On a previous visit in 2012, I saw for the first time what fennel/anise looks like and took a picture! They're so beautiful! They moved the deli and bakery areas around and now there is a huge long counter that expands all along the back of the store. The Bakery, Deli, International Deli, Seafood and Butcher departments can all be found there. I still can't get used to the smell of fish in this store. I love to eat fresh fish but can't get past the fishy smell in this store so I doubt I will ever buy any here. Everything in the cases looks great however. In the past months several different meats that were purchased at the Bloomingdale location have been bad/spoiled. Chicken legs were smelly and pig feet were also smelly and slimy. I give up on shopping at the Bloomingdale' Caputos. read more

Today there were people walking around the store panhandling. When I went to check out with my groceries, the clerk seemed surprised when I suggested that she place the purchased groceries into the cart. Apparently, Caputo's expects the customer to do this. Not a chance. Also, $5.39 for a package of Oreos is not a " warehouse buy" as marked. That's the 7-11 price dummies! Crap service here! read more

Produce is good and reasonable and it's nice to have sushi and little import items nearby. Their main groceries can be expensive, box broth for almost $4. They need to work on their meats, I've had three instances of stinky bad meat purchases. Just bought chicken pinwheels that smelled horrible when I opened the package, but for $3.49 I didn't bother returning. read more

When the farmers markets are not open and I don't feel like making the drive to Mariano's for their organic produce, I go to Angelo Caputo's. Caputo's is basically my go-to for produce three seasons a year. OK, I actually found Caputo's at the end of last fall, so I've only been shopping there for about two seasons so far. But we'll pretend it's been a lot longer than that. I'm in and out quick. It can get a little bit crowded, but I always grab a basket (less clunkier than a cart - NEVER GET A CART, you will be that jerk that blocks everyone else without meaning to because the aisles are too small), grab all the fruits and veggies I want while dodging idling customers, swing by the bread section for pre-sliced day-old French bread loaves ($1!), zip back and forth between the rest of the aisles, and then have a speedy check-out at the end. And somehow, somehow I always seem to spend less than $30 here for a good amount of food. My only complaints are the long wait at the deli (when I have to pick up lunchmeat for my husband), the confusing location of some particular items, and the somewhat outdated feel of the whole place. That last one isn't really a complaint, but hey, knock some dust off the shelves, please? Oh, and the best thing? Caputo's is practically down the street from me (that is -- down a long, winding street through the neighborhood and over a couple blocks). It's a breeze for me to shop here -- when I know exactly what I'm looking for. read more

See you there? *Ideally, end review* In the name of being a "more helpful" review, I'll add a few more deets, though I do feel like the Nutella detail should be enough. The parking lot: Madness. It's so old and run down that there aren't even lines in some parts. The produce section: Madness. Shopping cart-astrophe. Great prices, but good luck getting through. Deli counter: Madness. I went in one day looking around for something specific. They didn't have it. I came back a week later and I swear to God I saw some of the people from the prior week were still there waiting... with cob webs connecting them to their pink, paper deli counter ticket with number. VERY similar to the Beetlejuice waiting room. The rest of the store: Madness. Okay, not really. But the rest of the store is just okay. A bit dated. Pretty dusty. Could definitely use some updating. BUT, they do have gallon jugs of Nutella for $52.99... So there's that. read more

When we invite people to come out to the western suburbs from the city, I swear, they first check their pantry and determine whether they need a trip to Caputo's before agreeing to make the trek out to the BFE. And I don't blame them. Caputo's has the BEST produce in Chicagoland. AND they give you huge quantities for cheap! I need to learn more recipes that use cilantro because every time I walk out of this store, I have a small bush of cilantro for less than a dollar. I get mad at myself if I purchase produce anywhere else, usually it's out of convenience on the way home from work. I'll end up going to Caputo's a couple days later and the tomatoes are more ripe, the limes are cheaper, and the lettuce still has dirt on it from being picked earlier that day. THEN there's the rest of the store. I have never seen isles dedicated to tomato sauces and pasta (guess it makes sense... Caputo's is Italian owned... ;) There's usually a crowd around the meat counter. Parking is never and issue and the staff is always a polite. Definitely glad we live near Caputo's to draw our city-lovin' friends out to the burbs! read more

I'm a fan since I've been shopping at this store for at least 12 years now, The produce is fresh and much more reasonably priced that anywhere else around my neighborhood.The only reason that I did not rate this store with 5 stars is that the meat displayed in the store is too near it's shelf life and you really need to pay attention to this because the day you buy something may truly be the day you need to cook or freeze it! Also, this location is so much in need for at remodel. When I visited the store in Carol Stream, I was blown away on how much bigger and better it was. If you are going to have a chain, consistency really does matter! read more

I have been going here ever since I moved to the area. This is the place to go if you want fresh produce. Not only do they have a crazy amount of seasonal fruits and veggies but it now carries a full selection of Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses. I don't know about you but they truly are better than all the other brands. So the produce is king in my books but the meats are also very good except of a few key items. There is always something good on sale like a ribeye roast or tenderloins that are really affordable. On the bad side I would have to say their sausages are just throw together with scraps and bits with no finesse of a good forcemeat. They tend to be dry and a bit mealy no matter how I try to cook it. Also the fish selection is hit or miss. Sometimes it just looks so badly picked over that there is no way I would touch anything in there. The bakery is also good and always has fresh baguettes that are still warm to the touch when you pick them up. I bought one today at 9pm and it was still warm and crusty! Good selection of ethic foods split up into different aisles. So long and short of it go for the produce and meat but skip the sausages/fish and grab yourself a fresh baguette on your way out and dive into it while its still warm. read more

I have lived/worked in the Chicagoland area for 20+ years, and have seen Caputo's grow during that time. The availability of healthy/organic food options has grown tremendously. I recently enjoyed shopping in the Carol Stream IL location (Schmale and North Ave.). Their specialty offerings are amazing, and their employees are specialized and make recommendations with a smile. The fresh cheese section (next to the deli) is fully stocked of delicious options for cow, sheep, and goat cheeses. Every morning, they make fresh mozzarella on the premises. In the fresh seafood section, the "Rachel Table calamari salad" is new and is to die for...tender calamari with celery, olives, roasted peppers combined to make a delicious salad. I highly recommend you try shopping at this store! read more

I can't hate on Caputo's too much. I find them to be a bit overpriced and there seems to always be a weird odor wafting throughout the store, but it's kinda like an Italian version of Shop-N-Save Market, so I dig it. Also, it's way closer than any other grocery store, which means I can depend on them for most of my missing ingredient emergencies. The majority of the people working here are very helpful and great salespeople. Either that, or I'm a pushover. It's probably a combo. Nonetheless, I seem to spend about three times what I intended. I have something in mind and then they ask if I want something else, which in and of itself isn't suggestive, but then they follow it up with "Some gouda? Some cheddar?" Shit! Now that you mention it... Three kinds of cheeses, half a pound of imported prosciutto, two salmon fillets, two sirloin steaks, three marinated pork chops and two dozen eggs later I'm ready to check-out. I gotta hand it to them on the meat department, though. The steaks and fish were far from as fresh and flavorful as I've purchased elsewhere but the selection is sizable and the price was right. Let me preface this review by saying I don't care how much things cost (so I don't know if this store has good or bad prices), I will pay for convenience and one-stop-shopping (so I need you to sell everything I need), and I like my space (so give me some room!). That said, I come to Caputo's only when I can't get anywhere else. Here's why: 1. Caputo's is small. TOO SMALL. I hate using a cart here because you are always stuck waiting for people to get out of your way or are trying to get out of everyone else's way. 2. They have some great products (especially Italian and European stuff) but there's not a lot of regular old American products. Some people can't live with any other chocolate than Hershey's. Just sayin'. 3. The employees here are hit or miss. Sometimes you get some really nice, hard working kids, and sometimes they have zero customer service, professionalism, or respect. I'm getting old. I kind of care about that now. 4. It's ALWAYS crowded. ALWAYS. Probably because you can't buy groceries a week in advance here...see #5. 5. I picked up and then put back down three things that were only a couple of days from expiring. If you want groceries for dinner tonight, this is your place, otherwise... Meh. I like the cheeses, meats, and some of the not-about-to-expire-products here, but I'd rather go somewhere else. read more

The store is definitely one of the grocery stores in the area that has the freshest fruits and veggies. I've already been to a few of the grocery stores in this area, and I can easily tell that this store has a better selection when it comes to fruits and veggies. Generally, this store is actually good. When it comes to the overall selection of products and everything else, the store has a good selection of everything. I think that this is not the biggest location of Angelo Caputo's Fresh Market and it may even be included in the smallest location I visited. But despite it being smaller, it is clean and well-organized and their selections are the same high quality with various options just like the other locations. I also like the prices here, which are average, and I also saw a few products that have cheaper prices compared to the other stores. Checkout here is quick, and there is ample parking. Their staff are not really friendly. They were okay, and I can say that they are nice because they are also not rude. read more

This is like a "if you have nowhere else to shop" grocery store. I always feel that the produce goes bad more quickly than from other grocery stores. It's also poorly planned in that the produce aisles are too small for people with carts to move through... traffic jam!!! It's also the same thing at the deli! One thing I like is that they have several international selections; whether it be Italian, Hispanic or Polish. Newly remodeled store. Floors leading up to registers were so sticky you could not walk on them Asked where the carts are now and checkout /bagger said they were out of them now. Did not go and find out if someone was getting them and she had no customers and was just walking around the front. The prices on bakery goods went way up. Was 6.99 now 9.99 on cookies just one example. Packaged fruit is butted almost up against the nuts in the main entrance. Cant even look at it without getting bumped. Could not carry what I was going to get. Put back what I had and left. read more

Had an incredibly bad experience yesterday with a rude employee at this location. My arms full of groceries because they were out of shopping carts, I spotted an employee with an empty cart and asked for it. He refused to give me the cart stating, "I'm using it." When asked for his name to report him, he walked walked away and made another rude comment to me. Wow. A customer with her arms full of groceries standing in front of you and you refuse to give her a cart? With all the grocery competition in Bloomingdale with the new Woodmans opening, truly made me wonder why I give this store my patronage. read more

Along with Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, Caputo's is part of the trifecta when it comes to my grocery shopping routine. Specifically, I will always head to Caputo's for deli meats, fresh cuts of meat from the butcher, Imported Italian goods, and fresh cheeses. The prices are more than fair and the staff is always friendly. It definitely beats shopping at Jewel or Dominick's {{rip off}}. The butcher is probably my favorite person. He's my go-to guy for pork taco meat, ground Italian sausage, and tenderloin. Produce can be slightly sketchy, so beware. The prices may be low for a reason. For example - check your berries before you buy them. I've often found many containers with mold (eww). However, they carry a lot of fruits and veggies that might be difficult to find elsewhere. The organic section is fairly small, but I find they carry a variety of different items. But, if I'm going to go for organics, I usually hit up Whole Foods. If you're looking for quality foods at a great place, Caputo's is the place to go. Just a warning - avoid going on the weekends during the day. You will wait forever in lines and it can make for a dreadfully slow and painful experience. read more

I'm consistently disappointed when I go to the Bloomingdale location. Usually I go to check out the fruit and bakery departments. They also sell a good variety of packaged and frozen pastas. The fruits and vegetable will only last a few days, so don't buy them a week in advance. The store often times as a funky odor too. For a small store they do have a good selection of bakery items, breads and ethnic items you can't always find in Target or Jewel. Be prepared for long lines if you want deli items. I do selective shopping here I will check out the new store that is opening on North Avenue (Carol Stream?) to see if it's any better. read more

Stopped here instead our usual Addison Caputo's since we were in the area. I agree with a lot of what Tina said: It's a bit bigger and newer, with wider aisles and a somewhat different selection. Definitely felt less crowded than the Addison location. But nothing was laid out the same, which totally threw me off -- took us awhile to find the pepperoni we wanted, and I lost my husband after he took off looking for something. I know. Not their fault. Just noting that the layouts are not the same between the two stores. It didn't seem as intuitive to me. It's a nice alternative to have, since we go out to Bloomingdale a fair amount, but I feel more comfortable with the Addison location. Still, I love me some Caputo's no matter where it is -- so four stars for awesome products at great prices. read more

As the name suggests, your best bets here are the fresh, unprocessed selections - fruit, vegetables, meats, and cheeses. The better cuts of meat here can be pretty pricey, but totally worth it - they taste so much better than the crap that you find at Jewel or Dominicks. They also have an interesting selection of Italian & Polish goods & pastries, and a great (and often very busy) deli counter. Not so great when it comes to packaged goods - again they have some interesting ethnic stuff, but the selection of basic staple items is sometimes disappointing - I usually end up making an extra trip to Jewel or Target for those things. read more

So excited to have discovered this Caputo's in Bloomingdale - although I absolutely love my old standby on Lake Street in Addison, I will admit that it is a bit worn down and shabby. This sister store about 10 minutes west on Lake Street is newer, bigger and better, if that could be possible! This store seems to cater more to the Italian market, as they seem to have a lot more of a selection of Italian produce, pastas, spices, and so forth. Also a nice organic section; did not seem as crowded as the one in Addison either. Caputo's is definitely one of the few grocery stores that you can walk out with zillions of bags, great produce, a plethora of ethnic choices, and still not spend an arm and a leg - their prices waay beat all the competitors and it's a quality product! read more

I would like to leave zero stars but I can not. Bought ground beef yesterday, opened it, not even all the way and there was a hair in it. Ok. Disgusting but happens. Took the meat back to the store to exchange it. Got the new meat, bring it up to the desk. Was told I owed $1.04 because the package I brought up weighed more. Um, ok, I didn't even look AND, although I know the blame can't be shifted onto the service desk, but you are going to charge me for that??? Are you kidding me??? It was not like I brought up some new york strip steaks and tried to get a big difference from the store. It was $1.04 and the principal. So for $1.04 you have just lost a customer who comes in there at least once a week, many times more often. I know it won't make a difference to you or your company but I value myself and my wasted time this morning a little more than $1.04. read more

Angelo Caputo's has been my go to place for fresh produce, meats and baked goods for a long time, Excellent selection of quality ethnic fare including Italian (Dah) Greek, Hispanic, Asian, Eastern European, Central Asian and Middle Eastern. Bread is always fresh and yummy. Their Deli cant be beat, great quality with great prices... blows away any of those chains that you shouldn't even be going too. read more

Outstanding grocery store. I love their produce department. Its huge. There is plenty of turnover, so everything is always fresh. They have a very diverse selection of produce as well. Plenty of peculiar roots, vegetables that i would have no idea what to do with. Though I wish I did. The deli seems to be the big attraction. Its often a gridlock of shopping carts. I don't believe I've ever actually ordered from the deli, looks great though. I have used the butcher counter. great sausages. Lots of ethnic food selections. This is one of their relatively newer locations, I still remember Angelo stocking produce at the Elmwood Park store. They've always had variety and the quality is the best for the money. Plenty of Italian fare. The ethnic pantry options for Hispanic, Asian, Eastern European, Central Asian and Middle Eastern is well stocked. I love their cakes at the bakery. Oddly enough, there is a small Polish magazine section that gets blocked by some of the food displays close to the far right checkout. I pick up an occasional copy of Sol i Pieprz (Salt and Pepper) magazine there. read more
