I'm reviewing Tony's again because they've lost a lot of quality recently. I hate it because I do get almost all of my meat here, and probably will continue to do so for awhile... but not for much longer if they keep this up. Summary: DO NOT BUY FISH HERE; some meat is really tough; the sausage has declined in quality; there are some annoying recent changes; get the app coupons. I figured I'd give them another chance with fresh fish. They failed and badly. I got a nice big piece of fresh cod from the counter, took it home and opened it within a half hour. The stench was amazing. This wasn't just fishy smell, this was spoilage. Same day I got it, full-price item, and they had a lot of it. The thing that irked me more than anything is they've got their meat/fish case guys wrapping the stuff so tightly that you cannot smell anything on the package. And I LIKE fish! I just can't understand what they're doing wrong but I've got half a mind to sic the health department on them. Another frustrating thing is the ungraded beef. The strip steaks they sell aren't half bad, but their ungraded ribeyes are like leather. Stay well away from the "gov't insp." ribeyes, only get the choice grade ones there. When I first started getting their Italian sausage, it was awesome. There was no gristle, it was super-flavorful, and it was great no matter how you cooked it. Since then they must've changed recipes or something. Their Italian sausage is FULL of gristle now and almost flavorless. They recently reorganized the store, which is annoying and seems pointless. I get the impression they're trying to realign themselves even further as a multiethnic specialty market rather than a traditional grocery store. I worry the place is going to start sacrificing it's good features in search of profits in a niche. The app coupons are nice though. They want a lot of your personal info to get em, but they're really good. I routinely use a total of $10 worth in combined app coupons a week, mostly a set number of dollars off or for a free case of water. Anyway, I really hope they clean up their act with the fish counter. It's just unacceptable that frozen Chinese farmed tilapia from Walmart be better than their fresh American wild cod. If I ran the place I'd just lose the fish counter. They probably are only selling fish to new customers, and then only once. read more

I really like Tony's. I used to shop at Strack and Van Til that was there before Tony's so I was very excited for a new store to come in. I love the produce, meats, and Bakery. It's always very clean and the prices are normally very fair. Good sales too/ The only bad thing is that the employees can be pretty rude. They tend to cut you off in isles and if you need help looking for something most of them don't speak any english. read more

Very rude customer service at the deli at the cash register! I went in to buy some steak & brats for a bbq for the 4th of July and had a very hard time mainly with the shorter man at the deli. The rep had a very nasty attitude and said i talked too fast He even told me to "slow my roll". He told me and another customer that they we're lucky they were open and complained about how he had to work on a Holiday. I get it, it sucks, but at the same time it's not the consumers fault! After that i left and went to Marino's and it was a COMPLETE difference. Overall i am disappointed on how this place has gotten run down over the years. The individuals writing the price signs at the Joliet Tony's Finer foods don't know how to correctly write ninety-nine cents. You will find signs written as .99¢ which is 99/100 of a cent, which is less than 1¢. There are 2 correct ways of writing ninety-nine cents: $.99 or 99¢ I've e-mailed their contact and they neglected to respond. Apparently they won't mind legally selling for the advertised price of less than 1¢ read more

I went to Tony's to do my shopping today. Typically, my experience is that of an average grocery store. They are usually stocked well and fairly clean. However, I did an hours worth of shopping for my Special Needs classroom this evening. When I arrived to the register, I was met with great surprise. They decided not to honor my tax exemption. I had an original they would have needed to copy. It seems as if this cashier wanted a copy. In the past, I just had to fill out some paper. I have been heavily focused on cleaning toys and surfaces as our students are immuno compromised. Now, I don't have supplies I need for tomorrow. Plus, on the way in I could not find a disability accessible cart. I was in pain due to arthritis in my back. I want to know how how this is going to be remedied. read more

This store has been in a serious decline as far as customer service and stocking. It is nearly impossible to find a store associate to help with locating items or inquiring about sale items missing from shelves. I have loved this store for years, but today I actually put everything in my cart back before I left frustrated. How difficult can it be to stock sale/app items? I waited last night for nearly 10 mins while the only 2 lines open piled up waiting for a manager to ring up wine for a lady in front of me. It was all she was buying. She was irritated when someone FINALLY showed up! Couple the lack of product with poor service and well, it's a disaster. I will be shopping elsewhere. read more

I haven't been to Tony's in a long time and just went today again since we live closer now. I feel like it's better than it was before. Can't put my finger on it but I feel like I get a better variety of groceries for a great price. Better than jewel for my pocketbook. read more

5 stars for Juan Diego!!! (& bc we love Tony's) We've been going to Tony's for since they opened in Plainfield. However the past year I noticed the teenagers or younger adults haven't had the same customer service like before. Usually I always get greeted how was your day but now I'm lucky if they even look up! However Juan Diego asked how my day was if I found everything okay & made conversation! They have good sale items every week. But, it feels congested inside. I think they need to widen the aisles.

Tony's is a great place to shop, and that has only become more true since Mariano's opened down the road. Really made you realize how behind Tony's was, especially when Tony's began mimicking them at every possible opportunity. But still, I love that they have a gelato and coffee bar at the front of this joint now. Normally I would mock a place that seems so outmoded and purely reactionary, but at the same time, I respect the willingness to embrace change, and the progress at Tony's is undeniable. The quality of the coffee/cappuccino can be a bit hit or miss I have found, but it is good more times than not. Furthermore, I have found that the Plainfield area does not cater to those among us who value diversity in our food selection. To their credit, Tony's does a decent job of providing a variety of ethnic foods and sauces, which is another reason to choose Tony's over Jewel or Wal-Mart. Also, trust the staff at this place. I say that because there are always so many people in self check-out who have never worked at a grocery store/retail before. Make way for those of us who don't take 10 minutes to ring up 5-10 items, please! These kids are good at their jobs, let them do the heavy lifting for you. read more

I will never buy meat there again , I have emailed them 3 different time after 2 of the times I took meat home and when I opened them up they stunk bad. The 3rd time the lady at the register told me I can't sell you this meat it smells very bad, I have never gotten a email back or a call from them. There are days when you walk by the meat section and it smells bad, be careful people. read more

Meats here are excellent. All cuts are good. There is a very wide selection and the prices are great. A lot of international food is for sale too. I really get the old school vibe when I shop here. Reminds me of Westlawn Foods in the city. read more

This review if for the Plainfield store pros: Bakery, produce and deli dept's, decent prices and I haven't had a bad experience yet Cons: Meat department. They advertise a great sale to get you in there and then they put huge amounts of bone and fat on the bottom under the meat where you can't see it till you get home. I bought some country style ribs there yesterday, sure enough they looked good in the package but when I opened it there was 2 inches of fat on the bottom of each rib. I took me 1/2 hour to cut away the fat. After cutting the fat off instead of being $1.49/lb it was more like $3/lb. They always do this so "if you can't see the bottom don't buy it". read more

I stumbled upon this grocery store while living in joliet and it's off the chain.. they have a HUGE selection of everything and several international aisles with decent prices. I try to make am excuse when I'm in the area to hit this store up for their pita bread because it's delicious. Their sales are pretty legit too. I bought Chicken legs and thighs in addition to a whole chicken on 4/1/20 at the Tony's finer food in Joliet on Rt. When I was repackaging the chicken to freeze it all I smelled was bleach. I see that Tony's still uses the old tactic of selling old chicken by bleaching it so you cant smell its bad. read more

Maybe I just don't "get it" but this place seemed really dirty to me. The floors were really gross looking, and the whole store smelled like rotten garbage. They have a big selection of everything: fruits and veggies, wine...but I just couldn't get past the smell. read more

This store has gone down hill... Dirty inside now... Customer service stinks... And is hidden behind plexiglass... In the beginning, this was a nice clean store with a wide variety of ethnic foods and an awesome Italian specialty section... It had a caputos feel to it. Recently they seem to be weeding out the Italian stuff and replacing it with a wide array of Hispanic specialties... Since we don't cook much Hispanic food... And the dirt is grossing me out... We have been heading over to Mariano's instead... Such a shame this place turned into a dump read more

meat has gone downhill in a bad way. Chicken had gone rancid in the display cooler. pork was no better, opened that at home- what a lovely sour smell. I'm starting to think they have too much selection..... it seems they are unable to keep up with quality control. Also they're "fresh" chicken looked thawed and not fresh at all. bummer read more

Awesome selection of food!!! They beat the pants off Jewel and Dominick's. I love their deli and bakery. Great selections in both.

This grocery store has a great selection of vegetables that you normally won't find at Jewel or Mariano's. It tends more to the Asian and Hispanic cuisine. I was looking for bittermelon and watercress in the middle of winter and they had it unlike the other stores. Granted, they were not the freshest or cheapest but it was still good. The on sales items are always worth keeping an eye out for. read more

I will not be buying meat from here anymore had to return it. I purchased a family pack of bonless chicken breast to grill for the game. Got home and began to prepare meat and did not like what I saw. I would post a pic but it is too gross to show. Check your meat carefully. You cant tell until you open. I don't think they take the care they once did when first opened. Not sure if they have butchers or if it comes to store packaged but please clean up your act. read more

Like every grocery store, they have good and bad prices in each category of products. I have yet to see one who has reasonable/exceptionable prices in every category. On the other hand, it is hard to find a store who is exceptionable in one category. Tony's produce is exceptional. I dare you to find another place around the area that beats the prices and quality. I frequently attend here and am satisfied with the prices. My only complaint is the stock of some of their products. There have been times where I have looked for a particular item and they have been out of it 50% of the time, which is very frustrating. They also move around some of their produce randomly too, which gets very annoying. If you are attending here for produce though, you won't be disappointed with the prices. There's nothing better around this area. Very good addition to the area and a good replacement of Strack and Van Till. read more

Where do I begin? This store is awesome. The deli is always hopping so you know everything is fresh. Prices in the deli are crazy low, and a variety to knock your socks off. Ethnic foods galore !!! No need to drive into the city to get ethnic foods and goodies. Their fresh squeezed orange juice is to die for. Sweet like honey. Sorry Marianos, there is no way you can compare to Tony's. Waited 45 minutes to get one pound of meat at the Deli jelly counter I heard the girl complain she had to work I would not go here again

Seems to have gone downhill since they first open. Have not been satisfied with the produce I have purchased the last couple of visits. Bananas would not ripen. Apples felt like they just came out of the freezer. Purchased turkey and cheese at the deli counter. Two days later turkey was slimy and smelled. And cheese was moldy. Walked back in to pick up a some potatoes. Not one bag had potatoes that were not rotting. I ended up paying more for the individual potatoes. Also, it smells really bad by meat and fish counter - I had to plug my nose just to walk by. I guess their business must be hurting because I noticed fresh orange juice (higher than Mariano's prices) and a coffee/gelato bar being built. I guess they are trying desperately to copy the success of Mariano's, but you can pretty much bet that I will no longer be shopping here. read more

They have a very wide selection on everything. However, the quality is spotty as I've gotten produce that was moldy (berries) or rotting. And recently had boneless chicken thighs that were rotting (package stated it was packed the day after I purchased it) and "fresh" sole fish that was also rotting (both really smelled horrible). Prices consistently ring up wrong. Sale prices have rung up as regular prices multiple times for me. Just went to their deli and the lady put the wrong tag on my deli meat, charging me an extra $2/pound. Frustrating. Also takes FOREVER to get in & out of the deli. read more

My son is vegan and very particular about the ingredients he uses. I took him to Tony's Market on a scouting mission to find good local sources and this passes with flying colors. He goes there regularly now. It's great! read more

Love this store and it's variety of ethnic produce. Everything is fresh. Employees in every department are super friendly. Hate that every visit ends with someone soliciting in their parking lot just as I'm putting my groceries into car. They work in teams and approach everyone.
