Second year in a row I designed a "custom cake" for my daughter's birthday. Last year the writing wasn't even centered to the cake and the letters were so close together you couldn't read the writing so I had them redo it. Figured it happens so I ordered again this year. Cake looked like my daughter drew it and I made it myself. Such a shame because I walked over to the pre made cakes and they all looked so nice. Definitely don't recommend taking the time to design your own "custom cake" waste of time. I refused the cake and I bought a different one. It's a shame I can't have my daughter's name on the cake now but I don't trust them to write on it again. Really disappointed. I'll go to jewel from now on. read more

Mariano's has such a great selection of fruits and vegetables. I love that I can get my favorite bakery buns here. The store is always clean and very well lit. They actually turn the lights on and I'm here for it! The grounds are tidy and the employees are helpful. The bakery offers up amazing cakes and pastries. Need bouquets of flowers or balloons? First time ever coming to this Mariano's establishment just to shop around for a few items before it closed down for the night. Located in a busy strip mall, i found this Mariano's as a casual shopping experience. It's got a little bit of everything but I did like their hot soups and even their sushi that they offer by their food bar. Many items I thought were pretty pricey as well compared to if I shopped at other competing grocery stores. There are plenty of parking spots so it shouldn't be hard to find a spot. I was honestly shocked and dumbfounded by my experience at Marianos in Shorewood, Illinois. When I asked the lady working at the popcorn machine if I could please have a fresh bucket of mixed popcorn (cheese and caramel), she looked at me as if I had said something wrong and responded with a noticeable attitude. Her body language was rude and dismissive, which I found very uncalled for. I truly didn't expect that kind of treatment as a paying customer. It's disappointing when people working in customer service act as though they don't appreciate their job or the customers who help keep the business going. Section by section Mariano's is sure to please. In the bakery their donuts, pastries and cookies are phenomenal! After youve got your goodies from there, head to their homemade taco dip. It's made fresh in store. Grab a tray of that, and head to the chip isle where they have sales all the time. They have their own brand chips too, in some funky flavors, for sure worth a taste. Take your phone out and scan the QR codes on the sales and BOOM-you get the sale price ( of course make an account first ). After that head to the meat section where you'll find fresh pork chops 10 for $10! No bones, all meat. What a good deal! Next, swoop into the fresh cut fruit section and don't forget to hit up their in-house popcorn which boasts of caramel, butter and sometimes Oreo cookie popcorn. Too much goodness to add. Everyone I dealt with were polite and very helpful. First time shopping at this store. I was looking for ready made meals and an associate who was passing out samples led me to that area. When I was checking out the friendly cashier took my info and gave me a card to use because I was having trouble with the app. One complaint I have is the mini cinnamon rolls and mini danish were a bit dry. This is the second time that I've came in and had an issue with the bakery section of the store. The first time I let it slide, but the second time is no excuse. A young lady named jessica sat and watched me stand and wait and did not come forth until another coworker from a totally different came and asked me if I've been helped. It's almost as if she had no intention to help me, her face said it all. She rolled her eyes and went on about her day. What makes it even worse is the fact that I brought it to the managers attention and all he said was "sorry she's not very attentive". Imagine using that an excuse for your employees lack of customer service. One thing I don't tolerate is not being acknowledged when I'm spending my money somewhere. I ordered a cake for a baby shower and it was fantastic first and foremost the customer service was excellent I spoke with Katie she was the cake decorator and she was amazing. She said she could do whatever I wanted and she did. The cake was the star of the show everyone and I do mean everyone was talking about how pretty and how good this cake was.They said it was so fresh that it melted in your mouth. Customer service has improved a great deal and has remained consistent. Offers quality products and associates in each department are ready to help and go beyond to make sure satisfaction is attained. The cashiers, baggers, and self check out attendees are wonderful and are never without a welcoming smile and a good- bye greeting. Nice, clean, well organized and well stacked. But I'm here to give a huge kudos and thanks to the staff at the pharmacy! I've transferred my meds to this pharmacy and I couldn't be happier. The staff is so knowledgeable, answer any question I may have, they all always have a great attitude, they work great together as well, always positive, and willing to help. Also as a side note, most medications are cheaper in the Mariano's pharmacies. Mariano's offers reasonable prices, fresh food, helpful and friendly staff. The food is well stocked and rarely something I want is not available. I especially like their baked goods! I only wish they had higher end sushi, but it's a grocery store and that's probably too much to ask for. read more

First off I want to say that I like this store. Unfortunately the last 2 times in a row they bagged my lunch meat in with raw meat. Both times I brought it to the attention of the store manager. They were polite about it both times but if it happened to me twice in a row then it has certainly happened to others. Mixing raw meat with lunch meat is a recipe for salmonella. So I hate having to write this because I love Marianos, and I've always had positive experiences there. However, this last weekend I had picked up a cake that I ordered a week ago for my sister's 30th birthday. I spoke with a decorator in person and also emailed a picture and was very specific with what I wanted. I called the store Saturday afternoon around 2pm and that's when the nightmare started. Apparently that day none of the decorators came in and the decorator they brought in from another store had already left. At that point I should have just cut my losses and found someone else to get a cake from last minute. So I sat on hold for about 5 minutes asking if my cake would be done or not. To which the man replied yes it would be done by 530. 6 o'clock rolls around and I go to pick up the cake for a party that starts in 1 hour. He hands me the cake and it is an abomination. It looks NOTHING like the picture I sent. It actually looks like a 10 year old made it. It was suppose to be 2 tiers, which it was but fit into a regular cake box. So 2 of the 4 layers that it should have probably had were missing. (I have pictures to attach) it was suppose to feed approx. 25-30 people. It was a 9inch round cake base and probably a 4 or 5 inch round on top. WHAT. THE. HELL. Then the man proceeds to stick a $44 price sticker on the cake as I'm asking him what the hell he just handed me. I walked the cake to customer service and set it on the counter and said this cake is horrendous and I hate it. I told her this isn't worth $44 and that I am not paying for it. She was actually very nice. Her name was Emily, she tried to fix the situation and offered flowers, balloons or some cupcakes to take as well. I expressed how disappointed I was with the cake. I still took the cake and a dozen cupcakes. After crying hysterically on the phone to my mom and sister that I ruined her cake and party , we ended up making a big joke out of it and everything was fine in the end. But I will never order anything from the bakery ever again after this. read more

We also tried their chicken wild rice soup & chicken & dumpling soup and were not disappointed. They are really good! Mariano's is a bit out of my way so I don't do most of my shopping there, but I'm there often enough for three things - The Green Detox smoothie, the hamburger patties in the meat department and the Clotted Cream in the 'fancy' cheese section. The store is tidy, they offer a wide variety of products many of which are hard to find (ex. Clotted cream!) and the store has a pianist on the weekends! What more would you want? How about an extensive selection of prepared foods, gelato bar, coffee bar and popcorn bar!? Be prepared though you may be taking your life into your hands when you drive through the parking lot if you shop at peak times. It's got a terrible flow! read more

Let me start with YES the prices are higher than Jewel because this is not Jewel. I've been coming to Mariano's since they opened this location. I absolutely love this store. The meat counter is just fabulous. Different types of burgers, brats, marinated chicken, and already prepared items that you just go home and pop in the oven. Try any of the marinated chicken. I could eat it daily. By far the highlight of this store is the prepared food options. If you are on the go but don't want to eat traditional fast food stop in here. Sushi, hot food, salad bar, and prepared sandwiches are just a few of the choices. They also serve several hot soups. The bakery is stellar! My daughter loves the decorated cookies. When they offer the cupcakes get yourself a few of those. You will thank me later. The only thing I wish they offered was Boar's head meat and cheese in the deli. Dietz and Watson just doesn't cut it. Come on Mariano's... Get the Boar's head! Other than that you will love this place! read more

The place is an absolute dump! I have two Mariano's by my house, one of them the original one and it's night and day! The place is dirty under staffed, the hot bar is always a mess! Empty trays! Dirty unkept, terrible food selection, the coffee shop more times than not has no one there and when they do, the quality of everything thy make is awful! I like Mariano's, in general, and I'd give this store a better rating but for two departments: deli and bakery. Despite attempting to order a cake on two occasions and buy desserts on several others, I've never actually been helped at the bakery. They have a lovely display case full of treats, but aside from hopping the counter and getting them myself, I'm not sure how to get my hands on one. You can stand at the counter for 15 minutes and nobody will even acknowledge you. There can be a half dozen workers, but none of them are available to assist a customer. The deli is only marginally better. I can appreciate that the worker washing dishes, sweeping/mopping, etc is not available to assist a customer at that moment. However, it shouldn't be too much to ask that they make eye contact and say, "someone will be right with you." Been here b4 and never had any trouble with employees. After a long walk over at Hammel, I wanted some juice & waited for almost 5 mins at the smoothie stand. The girl came over and I asked her for a juice of the day. She pointed to cart with one drink left and it looked like it was warm since there was only watery ice in there. I touched it and it was warm. I asked for a fresh one and she got snotty with me saying I should take the one out there. Im like, I would like a fresh one. She finally admitted she didnt know how to make juices, only smoothies. I said get a supervisor. She said they dont know either. I said if you dont know, why are you working in there? She didnt answer, so I switched my order to a green detox smoothie. She gave me a look! I knew she just didnt want to make my drink cause her GF was now, at the stand trying to talk with her. I didnt get a full 12 oz cup. No thank you , did get a receipt and change back which were slammed into my hand as she turned away. Flat out doesnt want to deal with customers. These kids today, piss me off. No respect for the customer, no respect for even themselves. Terrible. Most people think the actual store delivers. No, in small writing it states Instacart is the 3rd party. Oh the first tome went fine. The 2nd time the shopper was deleting item after item until there were only 7 items left. Those were like candy and little items. I kept texting her to stop and cancel. People dont realize they could be down to one or 2 items and you are givin9.95 plus the tip you did in advance. The price went down to 31.80 from about 109. So almost half is the fee and tip! So I screen shotted her response finally saying "ok thats fine. Have a nice Day" a minute later after I stated I want a receipt of the refund instead I get a text my order is complete and delivered. It got worse from there having to call the store and then Instacart (they dont answer or call back). So as of now I am disputing the charge with my MasterCard. I lived in Chicago when Mariano's first came to the area. In the beginning, I found their stores to be heavenly....particularly considering we were stuck with Jewel and Dominick's as primary grocery stores, and let's face it, they both sucked. Mariano's got my business several times a week. But as time past, I noticed that the quality was slowly slipping....shelves weren't always stocked, merchandise was oddly grouped together in a manner that wasn't intuitive, and the employees were clearly there because it was just a job, and not because they truly wanted to help people. So now I've relocated to the far southwest suburbs, and I have a Mariano's nearby. I'm going to give them another chance, and hope that they are in a good place (although some of the other reviews on here make me think otherwise). I visited for the first time on a Sunday morning. I would say that it's likely one of their busiest times, and probably best to avoid it altogether on the weekend. I attempted to order some things from the deli, but the line at the counter was huge, and it wasn't very clear if they were calling numbers or randomly helping whoever caught their eye first. I gave up after a while, as it seemed too chaotic and disorganized. Eventually, I found what I was looking for elsewhere in the store, and I went to the front to pay. The young gentleman who waited on me asked if I had a Mariano's card. I told him that I did at one point, but had lost it. After he was unable to find my information using my phone number, he handed me a new card. He told me that I would need to step to a nearby kiosk to activate the card. So after I finished paying, I went to the kiosk. I scanned the card as instructed, and received an error message stating that it did not recognize my account, and to speak to a cashier. Of course, he was assisting other customers at that point, so either I was to wait in line again, or go to customer service and wait in their line. Really. read more

They price gauge. The store's website and signs in store say a sale price but different prices apply at the register. I was in a rush and noticed when I got to my car. I went back in to the store to explain but all sales are final. This store is shiesty and offers a lesser selection... go to Jewel, Tony's, Whole Foods or ANY other retailer. Great selection overall, with lots of high quality options. The butcher area in particular has friendly and helpful staff. Today, while buying other assorted items, I asked for some femur bones, which I give to my dog. Joe was extremely helpful, going in the back and searching until he found some, then even sorting through and wrapping up the largest and best for me. He even suggested that next time we needed some to call ahead, ask for him, and he'd have them ready for us. Small things like this are what make a difference to me as a customer, and will mean I return more often over other stores in the area. read more
