Pizza is great, just take my advice and order by phone/take it home. We tried to reserve the backroom that is usually available and Dolores (mgr) denied us. We must have dropped $200 between all the pizza and beer we had that day and the backroom was empty. Service was horrible but food was good. My only request would be to get better management and training for staff. read more

I came here a few weeks ago for the first time. Looking the menu. I always ask my server two questions on my first visit. What's their personal favorite menu item and what's the most popular. Her favorite was the pizza. And ONE of the most popular is an item called "loco moco". (You don't want to translate that). It's white rice. A grilled hamburger patty. Brown gravy. Two fried eggs with crispy fried onions on top. It sounded just weird enough for me so i gave it a try. It was weird and multi layered flavors. And i could not stop eating it. I brought the wife and kids for breakfast here on Mother's Day, 2018. Yes, this is a pizza place, but they also have an impressive full regular menu for breakfast. There was only about a 15-minute wait. We ordered 6 meals. Two of the orders came with scrambled eggs that had been "browned." I ordered the Uncle Bob Chorizo Burrito; it was so dry that it sopped-up 2 orders of salsa, but was still dry inside, not to mention that I was spitting-out black pieces of scrambled eggs from it. One of the orders that was supposed to be "chicken fried chicken" was "chicken fried steak" instead, which, admittedly, this would be a plus for most people, but, in this case, my daughter doesn't like beef. I've never heard of anyone ever serving or preferring to eat scrambled eggs that were so overcooked that they were "browned." We bought 6 full meals there, and 3 of them were bad, and 1 was wrong. They gave us 10% off for 4 of the meals. We spent almost $82 after the discount. No offer to was made to replace the food, since it was Mother's day, with a wait-time to get in. Stick to the pizza - that's great! But ... we had lunch there yesterday and I tried the Philly Cheesesteak. Poorly done. Grilled onions and peppers with the same beef they probably serve as a French Dip. The cheese- Velveta chunks left to melt after the sand which was put together - it didn't. Tony's is our Friday night pick up spot but the last two weeks the service has been terrible. I called in our order and was quoted 20 minutes. My husband went to pick it up and our order wasn't ready and he said both times it seemed like it got lost. He has waited 30-40 minutes in the restaurant. Last night our pizzas were ready but they never made our wedges so he had to wait an additional 10 minutes. Shafter has very few restaurant choices so I hope their Friday night crew gets it together soon! read more

Any place that serves Loco Moco and Spam for breakfast is all good for Da Hawaiian. The meal reminded me of home cooking. The rice needs to be sticky extra fancy rice (calrose is best priced) not enriched long grain rice. That is why I took off one star from what would have been a 5 star Hawaiian style breakfast. Like corn masa is important to a tamale, you have to serve short grain extra fancy rice that comes from the Northern California valley. Just need to invest in a rice cooker along with a metal large ice cream scooper to plate the sticky rice properly. The crispy fried onion ring pieces was a an excellent topping to the traditional Loco Moco. read more

I have been a long time Tony's Pizza customer and we excited for the new location. The first several times we went it was great and it quickly became our Sunday tradition to eat at Tony's. But soon after they had a change in management and it quickly went downhill. There were lots of new untrained faces who would continuously get our order wrong. The last time we asked to speak with a manager- our $50 order was terrible. Undercooked chicken wings and burnt pizza. No manager was available so they took our phone number- never heard from a manager and our phone calls where avoided. Will not be eating here again. Too bad, sad to lose our long time pizza favorite. read more

I am not sure where the hype of this place comes from but ehh if you enjoy it then power to you. My wife decided she wanted to try this place so we ordered a pizza and side of bread, I would have to say the food is sub par. Breakfast was subpar, i would not recommend it. The eggs were cooked well, hash browns were undercooked, the pancakes were doughy and bland, and the coffee smelled like burnt popcorn and tasted old. Road trip and decided to stop here. Once you walked in, you're welcome right away with a friendly smile. Ordered a pizza and chicken Alfredo. The pizza pretty good and crunchy. Inconsistent food based on the cook. Battered deep fried green beans this time had thin greasy almost onion ring like coating while previous visit the coating was different, not at all greasy and excellent in taste. Got stuck in the middle of no where. Looked up reviews and tried Tonys. It was very very good. Had pizza, turkey sandwich and a custom made salad (I told the waitress what I liked and she had them create one for me and only charged the dinner salad fee) I highly recommend them. And she even boxed up our food and sent us off with to go drinks for our long drive back to LA. Hoping to never get stuck in Shafter again but if I do I'd eat here every meal. read more

I have never been to a restaurant with over five open tables and have been told that "We are at capacity and are no longer seating." No there's a wait list. Never go here if there is an event in Shafter. I eat here all the time and this was a heck of a way to treat a consistent patron. read more

We come here frequently for breakfast on Saturday morning, getting grandma out of assisted living for a bit. They usually have great service and pretty good food - I actually love the pizza, even if it is 10 a.m. when we are eating there. Yesterday's visit, there were 3 little kids ( about ages 9, 4 and 2) running through the restaurant, shrieking, playing tag, running in and out of the tables, treating the restaurant like their own personal playground and wait staff did NOTHING to get them under control until asked by patrons. That is NOT ok. That is dangerous, it is a hazard not only for patrons, but also for the employees and the children themselves. My grandmother is handicapped, many of the other patrons that visit on the weekend are too, and had one of those kids knocked her or anyone else over, they could have been seriously hurt. We see children at restaurants often, sitting nicely with their families and behaving.. there is no excuse why Tony's staff didn't speak to the family sooner and allowed it to continue for at least 15 minutes. read more

Tried Tony's for lunch on a weekday around noon. Restaurant was busy so i took this as a good sign but couldnt have been more wrong. Atmosphere is nice and decorated with firehouse memorobilia such as fire engines and signage. It was quite loud but this was something we have come to expect in many establishments these days. I ordered a philly cheesesteak which was a special,my wife had a french dip and we had fried green beans as an appetizer. Green beans and fries were the best part of the meal by far. Service began well but went down hill from there. My cheesesteak was unrecognizable as a cheesesteak as i couldnt identify cheese or steak. Unedible is the best way to describe my sandwich and i asked the waitress to remove it from the table and the bill which she did. Our other sandwich wasnt much better. It was supposed to be a french dip but was like no other i had ever seen or tasted. My wife was so hungry she ate half before throwing in the towel which is more than i would have done. Our waitress then began lying to me trying to explain what had happened with the food. I know she was lyiing because she said that the cheesesteak wasnt a normal menu item however it was listed on the regular menu as well as being on the special board. Ihave heard good things about the pizza but i will not take the chance as my experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. read more
