It was just... OK. The bacon on my BLT was heavily curled which doubled the size of the sandwich, making it harder to eat. Almost like they had wet-cooked it. The flavor was fine and the bread was delicious. The glass of tea I originally ordered came out tasting like dish soap. To be fair, the waitress immediately corrected it when I asked. I've been eating Tony's for longer than I care to admit, I'm one of those people who remember being able to buy a bag or fries for under $1.00. The Shields location is a no frills place and it's speaks to eating establishments of old. The decor is rather plain and on this occasion my service was not the best. However I don't go there for those things, I go to get good comfort food from my youth. Today I had a steak sandwich, toasted with pizza cheese. The bread was grilled perfectly and the sandwich was what I would have expected. I think they have changed fries to a type that has a coating to keep them crispy, they were ok, but I prefer the "old school" 3/8 cheap fries I grew up eating. They do add a change for using a debit card which as a person you runs a business I don't like. First time here....after going to Tony's take out yesterday I was sooo reluctant to come here.....except a local mentioned this place is much better and the workers are very nice. He was exactly right....we stopped in for dessert and I am not much of an ice cream eater....i had the hot fudge Sunday and their ice was so good! My friend had a giant caramel Sunday and said it was delish. Our other friend had the heath shake.... Everything we had was big and so worth the price we paid. Our server was very nice and our experience was very nice. We didn't have food so I can't speak to the food....but I did see customers who really appeared to enjoy their meals. I don't know what's happened but just had the worse experience. My husband and I ordered 2 steak sandwiches, each ordered fries plus an order of onion rings. I ordered mine without cheese. Sandwiches come to table both with cheese, no fries, no onion rings. I sent mine back due to having cheese on it. 30 minutes later still no fries for either and no onion rings and my sandwich is still MIA. At this point my husband had finished his sandwich. Where do I start? The food is way too overpriced for what you get! The staff look irritated because they have to interact with you and take your food and drink orders. If you're not one of their regular older age customers they will literally rush you out the door when you're not even finished eating your meal! There are other restaurants that have far better prices and food quality than to come back to this one! Beyond irritating, poor service with good breakfast. Walked in, pretty empty with 8 empty dirty tables. Sat down and waited 25 min to order which gave me anxiety lol. Food took another 40+ min. The restaurant was maybe half full???? Table next to us got there about 10 min after us. They ate, paid their bill and left before we got our food LOL Husbands food order was wrong. LOOk if you're gonna make me sit there THAT long get some mimosas and bloodys on the menu. Geeezeeee We get takeout semi often and they say 25 min. I grew up going to this restaurant. It was one of our favorites for so many years. We just stopped by after years and everything has fallen apart. The service was bad, the food took forever and it was lukewarm and just thrown together. The burger was burnt so bad no one even ate it and it was $30. The front staff with the awesome nails was the nicest girl and she is truly why this place has two stars instead of zero. Tip to the cook, when ya burn the sausage links to a crisp, cutting them in half and hiding them in my omelette is a bad plan. Tip #2, when ya burn the Texas toast, don't wrap it up and serve it because I won't see it until I get home. WAY OVERPRICED as well. Folks, do yourself a favor. This place won me over with the I Missed Breakfast Burger. A bun has a bed of hashbrowns used as a foundation, upon which a tasty burger patty is placed, which then has a slice of cheese, two crispy strips of bacon and finally an egg (your choice of cook) placed on top. Getting an overeasy egg and letting the yolk spill down the entire stack is so satisfying. The fries are also good, but the portion is quite large, so it's not practical to get with a burger. The service is friendly and helpful while being quick to refill drinks or check on us. No complaints here and definitely recommend visiting if you're in Shields or Saginaw looking for some greasy diner food. read more

The dry battered cod is excellent. Flavorful and flaky and arrived to our table HOT. I learned from our waitress Tanya that the dry batter was a healthier option than the greasy wet batter. I had mashed potatoes with beef gravy like always and loved every amazing fork full. Even my fountain Coke was exceptional. And of course they always have the best cottage cheese. Hands down, this is the BEST Tony 's I've been too. I think they are all owned by different Lagalos, and this owner does a good job. It's not dirty like the one in Saint Charles or the one in Block's Plaza. The prices are reasonable, the restaurant is actually heated well (so many others are very cold) The waitress are very good and friendly, the prices are reasonable, the food is good. The food at this Tony's is just ok... They nickel and dime their customers. Our waitress was nice, but more worried about talking with her co-workers than remembering small things, like bringing us a fork. Also, my sister and I ordered the steak sandwich which was so greasy it was sliding right off the bread! My mom got a chicken parm sandwich, which had next to NO sauce.... She asked for some more, and the waitress charged extra! I was extremely disappointed. Cute place, but not worth the hassle OR money. I would recommend driving a little further to Tony's on Center, or State St. You'll get better service and food. To me this is a knock off of what real Tony's food is. Went to this restaurant this morning at 9:45 am. It took a few minutes for the waitress to come, she brought us our drinks and then came back about 5 minutes later to get our order. At 10:20 am I saw her again, said to her, hey my Granddaughter has to be to work at 11 a.m., she said "Let me be blunt with you, if you have someplace to be or are on a time frame don't come in here on a Saturday morning, I was kind of shocked, but didn't say anything, she then said she would check on our food and could let me know what time she put the order in. Then not even 3 minutes later she came back with the order and also said that from the time she put it in, it took 22 minutes. Seriously, I don't care! But she could have made this a better experience for us and herself, by pleasantly saying let me check on that for you! I don't know if she was having a bad day or not, but I will never go back there. When we got in the truck my granddaughter said, boy she was snippy!!! By the way the food wasn't to bad!!! read more

I have been a loyal customer to this Tony's location (Shields) for the past 17 years. However, after the horrible customer service I received at this location yesterday (7-12-17) I will not be returning there. My daughter and her 3 friends decided they "had to have" steak sandwiches and fries from Tony's. Since I had a busy work schedule we called in the order and drove to pick it up. The bill was $46.80. I gave them $55.00 for the food and a tip for the staff that got the order ready. When they brought the food back out to my vehicle I had them check to make sure everything was there. The fries were missing. OK - no big deal, go back in and get them. The girl at the counter then proceeded to tell my daughter that she did not order them. That she could not refund the money because the manager was gone. That she was having a horrible day because she was only 5 hours into her 10-hour shift. I had a business call scheduled so I left knowing I would call and get it straightened out afterward. When I called - apparently the manager "just walked in" and I was placed on hold. After being on hold for about a minute the girl came back on the phone and stated the manager has a meeting and would call me back. No call now after 24 + hours. A problem so small could have easily been handled in the restaurant or on the phone afterward. This very poor customer service treatment has now lost this location our business. I would advise to anyone ordering takeout - to double check your order before you leave the restaurant & before you leave an $8.00 tip as a thank you for getting the order ready. I have learned my lesson and am very disappointed in how this location handles situations which could have easily been remedied. read more
