From the photos of the food we saw online we had some high hopes for this place. We were seated in the second floor dining area and ambiance was very lacking. Very brightly lit, no decor to speak of, and the counter space next to our table had random silverware, cleaning buckets and rags, etc. just sitting around. At one point a cleaning sponge was laying on the floor and nobody bothered to pick it up. Our server was very nice, but possibly stretched thin with a lot of other tables? Not sure, because upstairs there were only a few other tables with guests. We ordered a couple drinks and a salad. The salad came out, but no drinks. We weren't in a hurry so we waited for around 30 min, and finally decided to ask. She said the bar was behind and that she probably should have come over to let us know, which would have been nice. Drinks were ok, but a little overpriced in my opinion. I had the chicken spaetzle & dumplings ($31) and my wife got the tavern burger ($24). Our server didn't ask how she'd like the burger prepared which was odd. It came out over cooked. Flavor was pretty good, but no char or sear on the patty. My meal was underwhelming as well. Very salty, kind of tacky cheese texture, ok flavor. Not what I expected for the price at all. Once our food arrived, our server didn't return for a long time, but walked by at a distance and never checked to see how things came out or for drink refills. I feel like this place has potential, but needs a lot of refinement to meet the elevated experience they want to portray. Until then, I'd recommend skipping this restaurant. read more

Dinner for 4 here tonight. We're visitors,but the first table offered was stark, no atmosphere and unappealing. We found a table in the next room which was much cozier. Drinks before dinner were fine. Appetizers (roasted peppers were very good; meatballs were good) we're OK. Main courses were straight out of California. Two salmon courses: one was OK, one was fishy. Hog schnitzel was very heavily breaded and the hog was a little tough. Chicken and Spaetzle was good but very smokey. To top it off, the bill came with our bottle of wine overcharged by $24. We were traveling through Bardstown on our way home. We had a one night stay, I am so happy we decided to have dinner here. The restaurant is beautiful inside. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated in a cozy table. Our waitresses, Amy was very knowledgeable about the menu. Her service was amazing. We started with a gimlet drink and the ham appetizer. It was perfectly prepared. Our dinners were the beef brisket and the gnocchi ragu, both had perfect presentation and incredible flavours. The corn bread service was a delicious treat. If you have the opportunity to have dinner here I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Whatever the case, the folks - and the food - at Toogie's are the exception to this rule. We were dazzled by our server-extraordinaire: gorgeous yet kind, smart AND funny, knowledgeable yet not at all pretentious. And the food: thoughtful yet hearty, composed AND soulful, structured yet flamboyant. Also, our family got terrible news at the end of dinner: the worst of our lives thus far. And the fabulous threesome running front of the house - Miranda, Kandice, and Chloe - sprung into action, offering real comfort that overwhelmed us, even in our Twilight Zone state of shock and disbelief. Here to have dinner with my best friend, we made a reservation in advance and made our way over. This restaurant is located in Bardstown off of Stephen Foster Ave. Upon entering, we were seated promptly and greeted by our waitress. They have a set menu for dinner and a drink list with multiple options. I loved the intimate feel this place had to offer, perfect for someone on a date. For dinner I opted for the house made Sunday gravy. My friend chose the chicken and spaetzle dumplings. For our appetizer, we split a bottle of wine and ordered the whipped labneh cream duo. You are provided with a small chefs special which is two olives filled with some type of there house made aioli. Upon receiving our food, presentation was great. After trying our food, I would opt for saying it was just okay. I'm not sure if it was the theme but everything we ate was overpoweringly smoky. By the time our meal was over I felt like I had a mouth full of smoke. For dessert, we ordered the panna Cota which was the best part. We dined at Toogie's Table twice while staying in Bardstown over the weekend. They have some unique dishes. We tried the salmon, pork chop and tavern burger. All were delicious. But we came back a second time to have the tavern burger again. Tina does a great job with the burgers. It was perfectly cooked with bacon jam, Muenster cheese, Dijonaise and peperonada! They have a nice selection of cocktails too. We had Chris as our server and he was great! read more

We had a great experience at Toogie's Table. Food was great and service from Aimee was excellent. Three of us had the burger and fries - cooked to perfection with hot crispy fries. One of our diners had the bison meatloaf. A well balanced plate with mashed potatoes and vegetables. We also shred the crab cake appetizer, ham fritters and deviled eggs. We liked them all. Toogie's Table was such a delight! We stumbled upon it on our way home to Nashville from Lexington. We sat at the bar upstairs and received the best service and attention from Alex and a male bartender who made our underage daughter the cutest little mocktail! My husband ordered the salmon, and the flavors were incredible. It was seared perfectly crisp on the outside, which provided the perfect little crunch. It couldn't have been cooked more perfectly. My daughter and I shared the endive and burnt cabbage Caesar and the short noodle pasta. First of all, the house-made Caesar dressing was to die for. The short noodle pasta was incredible. My daughter (16) said, "I could eat this the rest of my life and not be mad." We will 100% visit Toogie's next time we drive through. Great experience! read more

It's been nice to see chefs thoughtfully create menus here in Kentucky! This place is excellent. The cocktails are amusing plays on your typical bourbon drinks. I went with the Brook & Magnolia the rye played so nice with the sweet fig. A little too good... now any place that gives an Amuse bouche means here's some food to set up the rest. Smoked stuffed olives. Yup. Followed up with the Caesar wedge and broccoli soup. Those two complimented each other so well. The bites of salad with smoked roe really popped. For mains we got Parsnips and the Salmon. I requested the salmon medium and they nailed it. Crispy skin yet still soft and tender. Such a thoughtful menu along with quick attentive service. My wife tried a delicious one custom-made by Alex - she loved it! Everything we had for dinner was perfect. We ended up at Toogies based on the recommendation of our Uber driver. What a happy discovery! Toogies offers a unique and intimate dining experience with pleasantly surprising meal options. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We were even visited by the chef who was just a super nice guy. We ordered the 30 oz ribeye at medium rare and the Sunday Gravy pasta. First off the name of the menu items are somewhat mysterious. The meal descriptions have just enough recognizable info you have a pretty good idea of what you're reading. The steak is AMAZING! 30 oz is quite a bit and can be shared, but my husband finished the entire meal. The pasta has tender pork morsels and the sauce is a true delight for your taste buds. For dessert we shared the buttered pecan sundae. I can't even begin to explain the flavor party that was going on in my mouth! All I can say is Toogies did not disappoint and I can not wait to make it back to explore other amazing items on the menu. The prices are to be expected for the high quality food and in house preparation. I couldn't do this every weekend, but totally worth the occasional splurge! Every dish we had was an unusual combination of ingredients that you would never think to put together, and they were all delicious. Tasted things we've never tasted before, with every dish we ordered. If they have the spaghetti squash salad on the menu, you must get this. Never had anything like it. Will be thinking about it for days. Or weeks. The servers were really attentive (without being annoying) and seemed to genuinely enjoy being a part of the restaurant and the great food it offers. Four of us went to Toogie's for Easter brunch and it was amazing! It was our first visit there and I look forward to going back to try their full menu. The staff was amazing and the food even more amazing. While most of what we ate was not in their regular menu, the few items that were were delicious. From a sorghum yogurt parfait to fried chicken to shaved ham three ways to sumac and cinnamon donuts, everything exceeded the expectations. I would highly recommend going if you are in town. Our first visit to Bardstown. Toogie's came highly recommended and did not disappoint. It was a little loud due to "loud talkers" near us, but otherwise, very nice atmosphere. Service was wonderful. We had smoked catfish dip to start. It was Amazing! Entrees were cast iron salmon, which my husband thoroughly enjoyed. I had the pasta bolognese. I was pleased it was tangy and not sweet. Been wanting to come here since it opened and have heard many good things about it. Because of that, I had high standards when coming in but was disappointed when I left. Ordered the salmon, which was room temp and the sauce it was in was cold. It was mostly flavorless and I ended up liking my boyfriend's meatloaf much better. I've had better salmon in Louisville for cheaper and was just expecting a lot more from it. The ambience was also not the best considering we went for dinner and it was bright and felt like I was eating brunch. If we're eating a romantic dinner, at least sit us in the dim room with the candles. Additionally, the bread pudding was lacking, not very good, and had a frozen aftertaste to it. Not saying it was frozen, but it had a lingering taste so maybe there's something that could be improved there, I'm not sure. It was just cold and not warm like bread pudding should be so that was a let down. Overall, I will not be coming back here. It's fine for Bardstown but I would much rather make the drive to Louisville and get quality, hot food for better prices. Two stars is a little too low but three is too high but I would rate it right in the middle if I could. read more
