A huge fish sandwich on rye. A giant stack of onion rings. Clean outdoor dining. Friendly service. We must have been at Mike Linnings.....or seafood heaven. Who could tell.

scallops and shrimp subbed fries for hush puppies. Shrimp and hushpuppies overcooked, scallops almost raw. No tarter sauce offered.

We came for a family reunion of about 20 people. Reserved "Derby Room" and wish we had reserved an outside area instead. Too loud in the "private" room. The restaurant was SLAMMED with people dining in and an enormously long line for pickup. It took an hour to start receiving our food. Almost all expressed that their food was overcooked or undercooked and lukewarm or outright cold. I have not eaten here before and I doubt I will return. My scallops were barely cooked...I would consider them nearly raw. The shrimp was overcooked and a lot of shell was left on so I was having to spit into a napkin. How lady like :/ The hush puppies were a bit warm but sadly -hard as rocks. The outside looked nice the inside was hard and compact and so very dry. How is one supposed to eat that? Coleslaw was ok. At least it was chilled properly. Gizzards and liver basket with fries for mom, all cold. Those who got the fried cod were happy. No one got hot fries.. all luke warm or cold. My mom spent over $750 for this meal and we were all disappointed. My Louisville family were all embarrassed at how it turned out. I understand busy. I do not understand consistently SUBPAR or TERRIBLE food. Do better ya'll.

One patio. Moms birthday with three her children.

Had great experience, kind welcoming service. The huge patio is a treat for the eyes, Fish platters of cod and try the best onion ring must try. Don't miss this gem Super clean facility Eat in or on patio, suggest the patio ambiance best. Lots of parking that can fill surprisingly fast. Recommend lunch time visit.

I have been coming to Mike Linnig's for as long as I can remember, and it has been part of my family's story for generations. Over the years it has grown and changed in big ways. There are now indoor pavilions for seating, a gift shop, an ice cream stand, and a playground. At the same time, so much of what makes it special has stayed the same. You still find the old-school dining room and ordering line, the outside bar for drinks, and the same friendly table-service staff who make you feel welcome. Mike Linnig's has always been a generational tradition. My parents, now in their 60s and 70s, started coming here when they were kids. My sister and I grew up eating here, and now her children are creating their own memories. Whenever I come back to Louisville, especially in the spring or summer, this is one of my first stops. When I was a kid, we would finish our meals and then run up over the levee to explore. Sometimes we played on the railroad tracks or wandered down to the Ohio River just on the other side. We often came back muddy and wet and got a quick scolding from our parents, but it was all part of the fun. On this most recent visit, the evening was perfect. A cool breeze came off the Ohio, the crowd was lively, and the atmosphere felt like summer in Kentucky. We were all stuffed with fried fish and shrimp by the end of the night. I love their cocktail sauce because it has just the right amount of spice. They were out of sweet and spicy fried pickles so we tried the pepper jack cheese balls, they were a nice idea but not my favorite since they solidified quickly. They are definitely a "first to eat" item. This fish and shrimp are so good. I cannot even imagine how much fish this place turns out on a daily basis. Mike Linnig's is more than just a place to eat. It is a Louisville landmark, a family tradition, and for me, a little piece of

The fried shrimp is amazing and tasty. They are very big and enough to fill you up.

My parents have been eating here for 20 years and so of course for their 21st anniversary they wanted to eat here . The fish is fried to perfection and tasty. Service is good and fast. You can eat inside or outside . The inside atmosphere has pictures packed with history of the place. This is not a fancy restaurant but is a good down to earth relaxing place!

The service was great. The place was extremely busy and it was my first time, but the staff was very patient with me (I can be indecisive) and friendly. Since I had never been there, they provided suggestions so that I could try everything I wanted which was nice. I loved that there were so many places to sit! You could sit inside, but there is also sooooo many areas on the outside that you can choose from. There are a couple pavilions as well if you wanted to have a larger event or you have a bigger group dining together. It's definitely got the summer cookout vibes here. Now, the food was...underwhelming. I was not impressed with any of the food, which was unfortunate because I had so much of it and there were several items I tried (frog legs, hush puppies, fish, and more). I wouldn't go back for the food, but it is a nice atmosphere to enjoy some drinks with family and friends.

After living in Louisville for nearly 16 years, I fiiiiiiinally checked out Mike Linnig's Restaurant. This spot was on my husband's list as well, so for Father's Day we thought this would make a fun treat. And it lived up to its hype. We arrived shortly after they opened, and after waiting about 30 minutes, we were able to get a table inside, a relief considering it was 90-something degrees outside. One thing we learned: There are two lines, one for a table-service inside and the other for takeout for the large outdoor pavilion. Be sure to get in the line that you want, and if you're in a hurry, you could see which one is moving faster. I got the fish plate with 2 pieces of fish, fries and cole slaw and Mike Linnig's famous tartar sauce on the side. This was expertly fried fish, light and crisp breading with ample spice. I also loved the hushpuppies, which were larger than others I've had and freshly made. My husband and father-in-law split the Seafood Plate, which had a bit of everything, with white fish, scallops, fried salmon and even frog legs. If you're hungry and want to try a bit of everything, this is definitely the thing to get. And after we ate, we found the large outdoor playground. My kids had a ball. They adequately wore themselves out and slept on the way home. You can also walk up to the Louisville Loop and see the river beyond that. Mike Linnig's is a Louisville institution, celebrating its 100th birthday next year. It took us too long to experience it, but we will be back.

We will never be back to this restaurant. It's not the food we have had in the past. Staff is horrible and do not return calls. My husband ordered frog legs and corn. I ordered a burger fry's and slaw. Two soft drinks.....$52.60. My husband got food poisoning and all they could come back with is we will notate this but no one else has called in. You don't serve food to a table in less than 5 minutes and then he gets sick two days later and all you want to do is NOTATE IT!!! Shame on you for not taking care of customer who got sick eating your food either sitting too long or not cooking properly!! We will NEVER SUPPORT YOUR RESTAURANT AGAIN! You don't deserve a STAR AT ALL!!!!

Is Mike Linnig's dog friendly out on the patio area?

I'm pretty sure it's not, but they do specify a day or two in their season when they are allowed. I would call to make sure with the pandemic now.

There were many seats at the bar as well as couch and chair areas. They also have bathrooms down there. Service was outstanding. We had a bourbon flight and some cocktails. Our server even took group pics for us. He also provided menus so we could be prepared for dinner. When our table was ready, we reconciled our check and headed back upstairs. Upstairs, we had amazing service also. I ordered a cocktail that they had on the downstairs menu, and not the regular menu. It did not faze our server. He said he would figure it out- and he did! After a round of drinks, we stayed with appetizers: meatballs, fritto misto, piatto di frutti di mare and the crab cake. Everything was devoured. I loved the crab cake and the meatballs. The fried calamari was pretty standard and the cold seafood platter was fine- I had an oyster off of it. For dinner, I had the "Pappardelle" : short rib ragu alla bolognese, grano padano, and added two seared scallops. Wow. The pasta is homemade. It was phenomenal. My husband had the "Maiale" : 16oz pork chop, cauliflower puree, chard, stone fruit, bourbon glaze. It was a large portion and cooked perfectly. So good. Our friends had steaks and sides, so I was able to try the Mac and cheese- which did not get congealed! The corn was delicious and the mushrooms were a variety. Of course we had dessert. I asked for cannoli and they had it! They weee not soggy. I had three different favors. I love cannoli. These were really good. We also shared the millionaire's tart and some sort of apple crumble with ice cream. Yum. We had more round of drinks throughout including some fun ones - see the treasure chest video. I would recommend this place. They have a great menu. Drinks were awesome. Service topped everything. They went out of their way for us multiple times. Thanks so much. We can't wait to come back again.

The restaurant includes a long row of bar seating that extends to the other end of the restaurant, so there was no problem for me to find a seat on a busy day. I ordered the Mac n cheese and braised greens, and the Mac n cheese was really good and creamy. The braised greens were just okay, it wasn't the best greens I've had and it could use extra flavor. I don't know if this is a thing they do at Doc Crow's, but in my opinion the bartender excessively kept asking me what I wanted even while I was still looking at the menu. This definitely frustrated me since it was clear that I wasn't ready yet. I think she should have done a better job reading my cues to figure out when I am ready to order.

My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I spent most of the afternoon on a bourbon tour and a post-tour distillery so...food was needed. And quickly. In our mild defense, we didn't really know how the day was going to go or when we were actually going to have dinner, which made it a little tougher to pre-plan, but no research went into this at all and we paid for it. We wrapped up our bourbon adventures at the Angel's Envy distillery probably five or six blocks from here. Instead of being grownups and doing at least a quick/impromptu recon for spots, we literally just walked outside and down W Main St until we hit something. And we hit this, which was right on the edge of the main tourist area, pretty much Louisville's equivalent of the Times Square/MSG area. And as someone who works and used to live in NYC, you'd have to do a lot of convincing to get me to eat in that particular area - it's overpriced and the food/service just tends to not be very good, which makes you wonder what the appeal is for tourists beyond the convenience. But regardless, it's always struck me as an odd way for a tourism spot to put its best foot forward (or not). Doc Crow's is enormous, and when we were brought further into the restaurant to our table, I think we literally walked through three or four large rooms and navigated through multiple passageways. If you told me this place took up an entire city block or close to it, I'd believe you. Beyond the size/scope, there's nothing really distinctive that separates it from the myriad of other restaurants you'd expect to see catering to out-of-towners. It was the Friday evening of Memorial Day Weekend, so a place that I suspect is usually pretty busy was even busier and louder than that. Maybe not the greatest recipe after a bourbon tour, but who can say. On the app front, we got the Crispy Salmon Bites, which were fine. Not an item I typically see on a menu, even one with more of a seafood bent. I thought the cornmeal/panko breading was the right call; I'm a big catfish aficionado, so I'm of the opinion that cornmeal is underutilized, at least in the Northeast where I come from. Otherwise, nothing really mind-blowing there; probably would have made sense for it to be a different type of fish given the prep (I think salmon is best raw in a sushi roll or grilled), but it could have been worse. I don't think a ton of thought went into this on my end, but I went with the full rack BBQ ribs, along with a side of mac n' cheese. Again, okay, though not as flavorful as I would have hoped and I thought the ribs were on the dry side. Not their fault, but I always regret getting the full rack in hindsight because ribs have a deceptively significant amount of meat on the bones and a half rack is a very decent portion by itself; I am a work in progress just like everyone else. The mac n' cheese was also pretty dry, which I think you can see pretty obviously in the accompanying picture. Tasted and felt reheated at least once or twice. The service was pretty efficient given how busy it was, but our waiter was just on robotic autopilot. Not remotely personable and everything I said to him was responded to with, "For sure, for sure." Maybe he was having a rough night to start the holiday weekend, but it felt like he was just going through the motions and just checking off some boxes there. I went into this already predisposed to not like the generic tourist trap places, so grain of salt. But my recommendation if you have the time/bandwidth (now that I'm a cagey Louisville vet) is to bypass this area if you can and find something tastier and more interesting in the Highlands neighborhood. That's where the real ones are.

(If anyone from Franny's is reading this review, please keep that man as long as you can. He's a gem) After our first round of drinks the bread and oysters we had ordered arrived. The bread from a local bakery (Blue Dog) was hot and fresh and never stood a chance as we made haste of it quickly. The oysters had a fun little spin with fried saltines and a red onion slush and a dill slush along side a cocktail sauce. We enjoyed this little twist and talked about enjoying them on a hot day would be great too. After we finished the oysters and bread, round two of drinks was upon us. I ordered a custom martini that we were able to dial in by round three of drinks. With the third round of drinks came the jumbo shrimp cocktail and chicken piccata. The Piccata was wonderfully balanced, vibrant and briny. The chicken and pasta were cooked to perfection. The shrimp cocktail was the star for me and I would say there is only one spot here in town that might rival it. We finished with espresso's and key lime crème brûlée and it was one of those dessert that you are puzzled how it was gonna work and it was simply delicious!
