My only real issue with the process was that my manicurist continually jabbed me on both my hands and feet when cutting my cuticles which was frustrating. Solid nail salon, amazing value for the price/category. A regular manicure is $11.50 (including tax, not including tip.) Great location near the park, and I only waited 5-10 minutes for a manicurist during the peak post-work rush. They have EVERY color/shade imaginable in Essie and OPI. February 1, 2020, an Asian female manager at the establishment, refused to give me a receipt after processing my credit/debit card. I used my pin to complete the transaction, asked for the receipt. The manager demanded that I signed the receipt. That if I did not sign the receipt; she will call the cops. I informed her that the credit card had approved for the amount. requested a receipt she became very condescending and demand that cancel the charges and pay in cash and show her my ID. This merchant has been known to discriminate against people of color. Throughout the time I spent at the shop, I observed customers who were not of color, she politely processed their payments without requesting them to sign the receipt. After her trying to berate me in front of (20 or more) customers for over an hour, she refused to let me leave the shop after I had paid for the service with the card and the amount approved. I assured her that use of the credit card with the pin entered the credit payment was approved. I resorted to call the police, so she could not turn the situation against me in not making a payment. the police from the 9th precinct arrived listen to my concerns. They were polite and reached out to the BBB and tried to contact other agency's to resolved the legal requirements about the pin use without a signature. After an hour a supervisor from CapitalOne informed the officers that a signature is not require once the pin has been used. The police officers were able to obtain a receipt from the manager. And passed on to me. This merchant needs to be investigated for discrimination against customers, especially of color who use their credit cards and debit cards. needs to be investigated for abuse of the merchant agreement and the credit card holder's agreement. Honestly wanted to love this place since it's my neighborhood nail salon but I'm disappointed. I came in to get my powder dip nails removed and to get a regular polish change. It was $5 to remove the powder dip (which is reasonable) but they do not offer powder dip themselves. I asked for a regular polish change with my nails cut. I must've said it 5 times to 2 different employees. She ended up giving me a manicure after I said I didn't want one multiple times and was charged $17. The polish chipped days later. This was the worst nail shop experience that I have ever had and I just went to get my dip powder nails taken off. I feel as though this nail salon did not value me and my friend because we are Black. They did not have us sanitize our hands or take our temperatures, even though other reviews say that they did. Please see below for other reasons as to why they suck. 1. Even though it was cold out, the nail tech sat me and my friend outside yet they had space inside. 2. Without gloves on, she clipped off my acrylics and clipped off some of my real nails as well. 3. She placed my hands into a small bowl pure acetone. My nails were not wrapped and or covered in foil. 4. Usually to remove dip powder you are supposed to use a machine. She used an unsanitized METRO CARD from her pocket. Yes. A METRO CARD. Was it new? No. 5.It actually hurt because the dip powder was not ready to remove whatsoever. I told her to stop because it felt as though she was removing my real nail. 6. After she POPPED OFF the Dip powder, she then began to try and file my nails (with a file that had been run over by a subway train, and previously used on my friend) but started filing my actual skin. Again, I was in pain. 7. I told her stop, before she touched my other hand. because I did not want my nails ruined any more. I went home and filed and buffed my own nails. 8. Even if an apocalypse happened (which might actually occur) and Top A was the only nail salon that had survived, I would never go and would prevent my friends and family from going as well. read more

On my never-ending quest to test each and every nail salon in Manhattan (a feat that may take several years with a manicure a week) I popped into Top A while walking home along the avenue. Across from the park, brightly lit and clean looking, all I had to ask was the price for a mani/pedi... $23. Sold! The massage chair was new and in working condition but the technician was a bit sullen while working away. I don't blame her...but it didn't make for the most comfortable experience. The paint job was also a little off. Looking closer at my digits it looks like she missed all the edges of my nail bed. Not something you can tell from far away but kinda weird if someone actually looks at my nails. Do people look stare at other people's nails usually? First time getting a pedicure with my girlfriend, I though why not try something new and enjoy the experience with her! I left with mixed emotions. Pros: The place seemed pretty upscale, everything seemed nice and clean and new which is not like a lot of the nail salons I feel like I'd typically drive by. Felt like if equinox had a nail salon.. The foot / leg massage almost put me to sleep, and I chose a color for fun and that turned out looking great! Cons: They realllly dug into my toes and it was starting to hurt. Some of my toes are more sensitive than others and at points it seemed fairly aggressive what they were doing to my nails and cuticles, I feel like they should know when you are wincing and kicking your feet away... Also not sure if they discredited me because I was a man but I initially brought a nail polish up and showed the person, but then had to remind them at the end once they said they were done which made me feel fairly uncomfortable. It was here that I learned the serious importance of letting your nails dry COMPLETELY before you leave the manicure place. I never can keep an un-mussed manicure for more than 24 hours (usually less) but ever since I got my first manicure here two weeks ago, I understand the errors of my ways. Today I got a second manicure at Top A Nail and it was just as good and sharp as the first. I went under the dryer for FIVE cycles so, hopefully, my manicure will last almost a week. I opted for a ten minute hand massage during the manicure and that was really nice and relaxing, though the manicurist/masseuse was a bit aggressive. Eh, she got my blood moving and I could feel the stress dissipate. I want to come back here every time!! If I lived here this would definitely be my go- o =). Hopefully I can come back in Oh, the place is pretty small and crowded on the weekends. It's no frills but they get the job done. I think I heard people under the dryer talking about how they come down from the UES to go to Top A. I mean, it seems a little hard to believe. I had walked by a few places while I was in the area. They sort of waved me in and they had lots of free chairs! Normally in Philly on a friday afternoon my normal places are bopping. This place did fill up as I was there, but still relaxing. I thought they were very clean. They do try to add on massages...I was intriqued by the 23.00 dollar price, but that went up to 33 with a ten minute foot/leg massage. Still cheaper than my usual joint in Philly, but no back rub while drying! They do have a huge selection of essie ( my fave) and a select few OPI shades. They also have the gels/shellacs too. All the gals were super sweet and sprayed/oiled my nails before I left. Also another customer came in to have a chip from yesterday fixed and they were super sweet about it. I even walked past another salon and walked out of my way to go here because I thought it would be a better choice. I have to say, I was disappointed. Yes, the place is clean, was very busy that day, and my manicure was fine. But the nail technician barely even filed my nails (they didn't need to be cut). I should have said something, but I assumed she thought they were already shaped well. I ended up filing them down when I got home (I know, not a smart thing to do after they've been polished). But, I couldn't stand how long they felt. She barely put any moisturizer on my hands and gave a pretty pathetic hand massage.
