I went to Top Dog Pool supplies last week to have the pool water tested. Everything came back normal except our phosphates were sky high. I went home and added phosphate remover (Phos free) and i left water circulate through the filter. I went back to Top Dog today and had my water tested again. The phosphates came down but all of the sudden the water hardness and cyanuric acid readings more than doubled in six days. The water hardness went from 207(last week) to 450(today). The cyanuric acid went from 85 to "over 152". Apparently their machine doesnt read higher than 152. The young guy said those readings were so high our water was no good. Our water is only 1 year old and well maintained. I was shocked that our water was already bad. That same guy told me i basically have to drain our pool entirely and refill to remediate the issue. I went home got another water sample and had Top Dog retest the water...again the readings were sky high. The same guy said they've had 3 callers (today) concerned with their results about high cyanuric acid issues. Top Dog even stated he thought their water tester could be acting up. Luckily, I asked him to let me keep the remainder of that water sample and took it to Leslie's Pools for 2nd opinion. Leslie's said "before you show me your results from Top Dog, allow me to test your water so you know its an unbiased result" Long story short, my cyanuric acid is a smidge high, but my water hardness is normal and my total dissolved solids is normal. Leslie's says my water is still good. One thing Leslie's said I can drain a couple of feet and refill to bring down the cyanuric acid. He said draining entirely is not a good idea. I'm so glad i got a second opinion before wasting so much water. Top Dog's customer service is good. I'm just not convinced that some of the workers fully understand water chemistry. For that reason I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

I just received a very nice note from Top Dog Pool Supply. They apologize for having to charge as much as they do as they cannot compete with online suppliers. That said I appreciate them contacting me.The fact remains, it is difficult for some businesses to compete with online services. If you need something immediately you can always go to a brick and mortar business but as I said expect to pay more than you have to for online purchases. read more

Great service! I went in because my pool vacuum had stopped working after a recent storm. They took it home overnight and tested it and said everything was fine. They advised me to clean my filters and see if that helped. They did all of the aforementioned without charging me anything! It turned out that it was just my filters. I was extremely disappointed with this company . We have purchased many parts and motors from them in the past but we recently went back to get service on a sweeper and they where extremely rude and unfriendly . I will never shop or refer to them anymore like I have done in the past. My husband had to go down to home a leisure instead and they where very helpful . Will never go anywhere else in Bako again! Like EVER! They had the most helpful and full staff I have seen. They don't push anything and don't push their product, they walked me through steps I needed to un"swamp" my pool after a weekend away and a house guest that didn't shock it or care for it. I spent a week working with ..let's just say another place in town, that did nothing but tell me, oh yeah....we sell this. And 30$ and no progress later I finally am seeing results in my pool after one visit to Top Dog. Just saying, they are Top Notch! Water tested by one person, another located a part, another gave me instructions....it was perfect and the staff came together to help me solve my problem. Their parts inventory including filter replacements for my filter were amazing and they sold the upgraded higher capacity, not factory filter we needed. In stock, on hand. I love you Top Dog, this family is a customer for life! And thanks for the new water testing bottle so I don't have to bashfully bring the other guys bottle in next time!
