I rarely post reviews, but I felt compelled to after my awesome experience at Top Gun today! I've frequented this range for the better half of a decade and I've always had a positive experience. On this occasion, I was zeroing in my revolver when suddenly I had a rear sight malfunction that ended my session. After the incident, I casually mentioned my predicament to the staff and they voluntarily helped me identify the problem by "troubleshooting" the issue with me (puns always intended). Kudos to the entire staff who were friendly and attentive, but particularly a big thanks to Frank for going above and beyond in providing excellent customer service. It was greatly appreciated. I've got the parts on the way and will be back on target soon. You guys rock! read more

We took our License to Carry class here with Cody. The information was great, but best of all Cody made it fun and entertaining! We spent the day laughing and the time flew by. Based on my recent experiences shooting at Top Gun range I'm surprised of the negatives comments on this blog. I don't understand the comments left by others that the staff ignore customers; on the contrary in my case the opposite has been true, as the entire staff has been helpful, friendly, and in no way rude or condescending. First time we went there we rented a Glock 17 and got a box of ammo and they were very courteous and professional. I have been to Top Gun range several times now and wouldn't think of going anywhere else. In fact I decided to take my CHL class there in one of the weekend classes and was extremely satisfied with the whole experience and with the instructor, Mr. Dan Blackford. Dan is very knowledgeable and professional and his teaching style is great, making the class a pleasure to take. You'll be informed of the gun laws and gun safety and at the same time will have fun while going through the process. IMHO Top Gun Range is a great place with a great staff and I don't have any hesitation to recommend this shooting range to my friends. Keep up the good work Top Gun range! read more

My friend and I went to Top Gun for an introduction lesson to shooting. We had almost no experience with guns. Ivan was our instructor for a private lesson. He was so kind and patient with us throughout the lesson and with practice. I feel like I left there a new shooting fan. My friend and I plan to return. My son and I attended the Texas Licensing To Carry class, and Cody was our instructor. He made the 6-hour class actually enjoyable! If you are a new (or somewhat new) shooter beware!! Honestly one of the worst experiences I've had with any business. I went in to practice for my CHL/LTC course that I had the next day. I went to the counter and told the man exactly that, it was NOT my first time shooting a gun but it was my first time shooting by myself and loading the magazine with ammunition. He said oh well do you want me to go with you? And I said if you want?. He kept insisting and then saying it will be 50$ for 30min. I refused because well I was confident, again this wasn't my first time. I get to my lane and begin loading the magazine and before I even begin to shoot he comes to my lane and starts pointing out everything I'm doing wrong, but not telling me how to do it correctly? I then fire 2 shots (first asking if rapid fire is aloud) and the third bullet gets stuck. He then starts complaining about the gun that I have (m&p shield) saying "there are guns much easier to use than this, this one has a bad kickback,did you try before you bye?." THIS IS THE GUN I CAME WITH? This is the one that was gifted to me and the one I am using... Anyway it got stuck and he didn't even try to help? So I assumed that I could just start over, take out the magazine and clear the chamber and reload again. He responded with "what was that?" Then basically tried to kick me out, I protested and he left me alone. After he left I felt MUCH more confident WITHOUT him. Every question I asked he responded very rudely, and his responses were more complaints than actually trying to be helpful! He belittled me and made me nervous which is the exact opposite of what I need when operating a firearm? Once he left I practiced at each distance and did ok. I will admit I do need practice but I will NEVER be back here. I however DID pass my CHL course the next day at a different location. read more

Top Gun - 1st and last time here. - Gun/Rifle Ranges Near Me - Houston, Texas

Easy and friendly staff but the allowance of quick fire and rifle shooting indoors is very uncomfortable, loud, and distracting. Also charging for foam ear plugs (to wear in addition to my 30NRR ears) is annoying. They should separate half of lanes for rifles away from handguns. We won't be coming back. I have never been to an indoor range where that was acceptable. read more

i've been here on 3 separate occasions: once to browse and twice to get my pistol sighted. i was met with 2 different employees at the counter and all 3 times they were curt to the point of being rude. i don't expect to get my ass kissed everywhere i go, but there's a certain level of courteousness that should be maintained. they don't have belittle every person that walks through the door. and i never even stepped foot onto the range. conversely, the gun smith was very professional and a pleasure to deal with. i'm not sure if the smith is still there, but i wouldn't go back there if he was. read more

Excellent staff and range - I had family over from the UK and Chris gave them an excellent introduction to the range, how to handle a gun and how to conduct themselves on the range. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and this was in significant part due to the professionalism of Chris and the rest of the team - highly recommended. read more

I have been to Top Gun 4 times. 1st time I when they were still doing repairs from the fire. Looked at guns and the young gentleman helping was very helpful and friendly. 2nd time went to shoot by myself everything was fine semi helpful but not friendly staff 3rd time to shoot again by myself not at all friendly and very rude older man with beard not friendly at all 4th time with wife her first time in a range, only one person on the firing line and they put my wife right next to this guy. Went and asked to move and the questioning from the old man with beard began. He questioned me 3 times if I was a CHL instructor (which I am not) all the time talking down to me and being rude. Then when I went to select a target they have labels under each shelf (ex. B-27, etc.) I pointed to the B-27 and asked nicely and the old man with beard turned around in a very rude condescending tone said "their all B-27's you need to be more specific" I further pointed and said Ok the red one with the big 5 on it on the shelf labeled "B-27" I will not return to this range and I will not recommend this range to anyone. I will search for a new range and when I find it I will post my comments on here letting everyone know where to go. Top Gun you need to fire the "old man with a beard". read more

Top Gun is the go to place for any shooters needs!! Not only is this an indoor range, but they also sell firearms. The staff is very eager to help and is there to help out anyone from first time shooters to experienced shooters looking to improve their skills! They have tons of full autos to shoot along with the largest rental fleet I've ever seen! It's perfect if you're just looking to have fun or if you're in the market for a new firearm. They also have LTC classes every Saturday and on some Wednesday's, I haven't seen another range that offers this many LTC classes a month. If you're in the store and can't find what you're looking for, you can order a firearm or accessories from their website and get it shipped to their store without FFL transfer fees. I've been coming here for the past 2 yeasr, and like most local gun stores (LGS), this place is way overpriced on ammo and guns. The range is decent as they are electronic. Average price for range time. Service is friendly for the most part, though if they're a little busy some of the employees can get a little rude. read more

After my wife purchased a new handgun at a local gun show, we pulled into Top Gun so she could test it out. The staff was incredibly rude. Although we are lifetime shooters, USPSA competitive shooters and range officers, they talked down to us like we shouldn't even be there. After waiting for a lane to open up and buying their over priced ammo we ended up spending about $50 to shoot for 10 minutes. read more

Gun Snobs. They are rude and condescending to their Customers. I'm sure that gun they wear on their hip helps compensate for many things. If you want to pay TopDollar for a gun, go to TopGun. Compare to Academy, sometimes you will see over a hundred dollar difference and they are carbon copy pieces. When asked to price match, they refuse. read more

Decent place if you can get over a few of the employee's pretentious comments and orders. I've had great experiences at safe and fun gun ranges, so I know the attitude they have is not necessary. Today my boyfriend and I went to TopGun to rent hand guns that we were interested in purchasing. Needless to say, I left crying. When greeted by a staff member, he was completely unhelpful and disrespectful, calling me "chicken" when I stated I was feeling nervous and felt more comfortable taking an educational class before renting a gun on my own. I left the facility to cool down, when I returned, he said that I couldn't even watch my boyfriend, to learn, not shoot, without paying a range fee. Never once offering me education or a class, which I would have gladly paid for. I will NEVER go back!! read more

Great place for short range shooting. Perfect for pistol and revolvers. Not really set up for rifles. Not a lot of space for rifles on the lane. Do note, first timers better follow the instructions from the range safety. You will be told to leave for repeated safety violations. This is a good thing. I used to be a certified gun hater, but after being assaulted I knew I had to act. Was apprehensive about this place after seeing some negative reviews, but it was close and I felt I needed a firearm asap. Nervously I walk in and immediate saw a smiling, welcoming face behind the counter, good sign. Chris walked me thru the steps of choosing, basic gun safety training, and shooting. He was patient, attentive and conscientious, and made me feel more at ease. As a checked out the scene, the whole operation seemed like a well-oiled machine. All the staff appeared to be friendly and eager to help. Was a great experience, and I accomplished what I set out to, walked out feeling empowered. read more

Also I forgot to add that after he handed me the protective eye and ear wear and I asked if it had been cleaned since the last use (because the ear wear was clearly dirty, it was oily ) I got no response. I asked again, he never made eye contact with me, he just handed me a different pair of each. That is SOOOOOO gross, ear juice & eye juice residue from some stranger, I could throw up! read more

Top Gun is the best range in Houston. $15 a person to shoot all day if you want. And that includes eye and ear protection, and a target of your choosing. The staff is very well informed and very nice and respectful. Rentals are pretty costly, but everywhere I've been it's been about the same. In Houston this range is a commodity. Being able to shoot indoors, when it's blistering hot, raining, or really cold outside is a great luxury of this place. Highly recommended! read more

I came here with my friend to have my first gun shooting experience, and now I feel like a true Texan! We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed, but thankfully we didn't have to wait long for a lane (I think the other people were with large groups). We used a 9 MM and were able to shoot off several rounds with the bullets my friend had already purchased. Overall it was a good experience and I would go back. read more

Compared to other ranges in the area this range offers too high of a price for what it's shop and amenities have to offer. They're around $5 cheaper in range fees, but they get you an extra $5 for each box of ammo compared to other ranges. read more

Beware of buying a used gun from here!!! I bought a sig from them a little over a week ago, and I just realized it has the wrong spring in it. I went back to the store today and they basically told me they couldn't do anything about it. I would assume that such a high rated range would take some time to inspect a gun before reselling it. read more

We took our shooting test here after taking the class at Lone Star Defense and Arms. This place was really impressive and the manager Dave treated our whole class with respect and professionalism. The lanes we shot at were bright and clean which was the opposite of Memorial Shooting Center. My wife and I enjoyed our time here; we'll always be loyal to Lone Star but we'll be regulars on the range here as well! read more

Great experience. Cody made it such a pleasant and fun time. My friends and I came in as visitors from another state and newbies who have never shot a gun before. We were excited and nervous, as to be expected, but Cody prepped us extremely well and made sure we were totally comfortable before firing. The safety instructions were clear and presented well to us. It was an overall great experience and had so much fun. We've came here multiple times. I'm personally not a fan of indoor ranges, but the staff at this place makes it worth the visit. My husband had taken his Crimson laser off his gun before we came to shoot here. We were finishing our 4th box of ammo and his Glock stopped shooting. We called it a day and took the gun out and spoke with the guys. Apparently, when my husband took his laser off he forgot to replace a pin needed to hold the chamber up. The guy replaced the main part in the gun that had bent and the pin in 10 minutes. He only charged $8 and waived the installation fee. Awesome. Awesome staff. I recommend this place solely for the staff. read more

I just completed my LTC class night with Cody. Wow! As a salesperson, I have a difficult time sitting through a long class but Cody was informative, engaging and is very vested in the material which helped me stay engaged. The range fee is cheaper than some others considering the area it is in. Real close to my work place so I can come here after a long work day and blast off a few rounds. The only downside is the fact that they don't allow steel ammo but I have only ever been to one indoor range that does allow steel ammo. I wonder if they allow you to pick up your own brass if it's not busy? If someone knows please let me know. Overall a solid indoor range with friendly staff. read more
