Hi Bowl is definitely one of our favourite Malatang restaurant in Toronto. They are located in downtown Toronto and is just a short walk from Wellesley station. Discover 100+ fresh ingredients and their broth selections are so flavourful. I love the DIY concept so you can customize your bowl hust the way you like it. We're not big fansof super spicy broths but thankfully they have non spicy options. You can get an ice jelly dessert for only $1 with your meal and they also offer a complimentary soft-serve. This popular restaurant is open until late ( weekdays until 1 am, & weekends until 2 am) . I like the cozy vibes and their staff are helpful. Check them out if you're craving comfort food.

We visited Hi Bowl Malatang and really enjoyed the experience. It's a modern spot focused on malatang, a Chinese street-food style where you build your own bowl by choosing ingredients and a soup base. The setup is simple and fun; you pick from a wide range of meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles, and they cook everything for you in your chosen broth. The space feels clean and lively, and the whole experience is very interactive. What makes it stand out is the variety;you can choose from many different broths and ingredients, so every bowl can be different depending on your taste. The flavours are rich and comforting, especially if you like spicy or savory soups. The interior design is simple but beautiful and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Great customer service, the staffs were super friendly and helpful here; the ingredients were fresh, the soup base made everything tasty; this place was packed, very popular especially amongst young people; overall a great experience!

I usually love Haidilao so when they opened a Malatang restaurant I had to give them a try. Though we arrived late in the evening (after 9pm) there was nearly a 30 minute wait. There isn't a large waiting area so some people had to wait outdoors. When it was our turn it wasn't clear at all what you were supposed to do. Unlike most places where you sit at your table and put down your things before picking out your food, here you go straight to picking out your ingredients and paying before they bring you to a seat. The staff didn't tell you though so we were kind of confused until we looked at what other customers were doing. The variety of ingredients was quite good though since it was so busy they weren't quite refilling the food in time, and some of the popular ingredients were nearly out. My soup took an absurdly long amount of time came out - my boyfriend's dry mix came out 20 minutes earlier. By the time my food came out he was nearly done his entire bowl. I don't know what could have taken this long since I imagine all you need to do is boil the food in the soup. In addition, when they gave me my food they also forgot to give me any utensils, and it was a hassle to find my waitress to ask for some as they were quite busy. The amount of soup bases they had were good. I got the classic spicy which was fine, not super spicy. My boyfriend got the classic dry mix which was sweet and salty. Both were okay, but not as delicious as I was expecting for it being Haidilao. Overall the food was good but the service was rather poor. It's not my favourite malatang in the city taste wise, and probably some of the slowest service I've experienced as well. Even other popular places like Souper across the street have way more efficient service. Not sure I would come back unless it was much much less busy.

Great experience at Hi-Bowl the other night! It was late-- 11pm, but still a bit of a wait. Nothing too long, and understandable given the popularity of the restaurant. We were seated after maybe only 10 minutes. Ingredients were plentiful and the bowls are so reasonably priced. I love the entirely customizable experience. If you're not super hungry, you're not forced to buy more than what you think you'll eat. Many different broth options, and dry options too! You get an apron and even ice cream at the end of your meal! The resto is busy, but cleanliness was great and the staff were working really hard to maintain this!

Tried Hi Bowl in downtown Toronto (which is opened by Haidilao) and it was such a good experience. The setup is clean and efficient and the staff were helpful when explaining how the ordering works. The space is simple but bright and easy to sit in. I built my own bowl and mine came to about $20 based on weight. For both malatang and mala dry pot, I felt like the portions and pricing are a great deal. The broth was flavourful, the all the toppings are well cooked. Really solid spot if you want something fast, customizable, and satisfying. I'll definitely be back soon!

A busy place. On the side at the entry you have all the options for ingredients. There is a $ 3.99 extra charge for shrimp paste and abalone. You choose what you want and pay by weight. You then choose your soup base. They take what you have chose and make your bowl for you. They bring to your table. The soup comes nice and hot. The meats were tender and good quality. There is also an area with all the options to make your dipping sauce. At the end of the meal it you can get a small ice cream cone which was a good finish. It had a hint of coconut flavour. Good service

I came on a Sunday around 7:20 PM and the weight was around 30 minutes. Which wasn't too bad so I just walked north of Yonge Street and walked back just in time for our spot in line. They had plenty of ingredients but I especially enjoyed the konjac noodles, beef, tendon balls, and money bags. My total bill was $45.64 but my bowl was only under $20. I really enjoyed my sukiyaki soup broth and ingredients and I liked how you get to make your own sauce and also enjoy Haidilao's ice jelly here. The service was super kind and nice. I'd definitely come again. Huge plus that there's a HeyTea right next door.

Me and my friend wanted to go to Souper but it was super full and the line was long so he suggested HI Bowl which wasn't too far. I would call this place a less aesthetic version of Souper but food and choices was similar, and I think the price was the standard $3.99/100g. Dessert is self serve so just help your self, I liked the little Boba style toppings it was pretty fun lol.

I didn't know Haidilao had a malatang branch here and was super excited to try it! Came around 2pm on a Wednesday and there was still a bit of a wait. Seems like this place is popular even on weekdays. When you walk in, there's a whole wall of fresh ingredients you can grab for your bowl including seafood, meats, fish balls, veggies, noodles. It was the most complete selection I've seen at a malatang spot so far. After you finish grabbing your food, they weigh your bowl at the counter and ask which soup base you'd like. I went with the tomato, and my parents tried the sukiyaki and dry mix options. Our food came out pretty fast once we sat down. The tomato broth was rich and flavorful, though a bit too oily for my liking. The sukiyaki soup was light and refreshing. The dry mix had a nice kick but wasn't my favorite overall. The staff was were and they offered aprons and hair-ties which was a nice touch. There's also a sauce bar where you can mix your own dipping sauces, plus a small snack and dessert area with jellies and other treats. And at the end, they give you free ice cream as well which was great! The only downside was the wait time and that the prices can add up depending on how heavy your bowl gets. But overall had a really fun and satisfying experience.

This is a new Malatang restaurant downtown Toronto. They just soft-opened on 2025-07-30. The most obvious feature is that it is extremely artfully beautiful and modern! There is a wall of food that you pick with a tong and put into your bowl. The ingredients are weighed and you pay $3.99/100g, but abalone is $3.99 each. This is the same pricing as all other malatang places downtown. The one thing this place has that the others don't is the self-serve dessert which is the same place as the self-serve sauces. When you enter, there is staff helping you in or taking your cell number to text you when a table is ready for you. If you are ordering for takeout, you can just go in. I actually ordered for takeout during lunch. Note: During the soft-opening period, they may allow the last customers in at 21:00, until they figure out customer demand and how much food they need to stock. Note: During the soft-opening period, their ice cream machine may break down. They are ordering a better machine. I chose a wide variety of meats and seafood, some taro noodles, mushrooms, corn, and one abalone. My order was 398g = $15.88, abalone = $3.99, and a Creamy Strawberry Coconut drink ($5.95). They have 13 different soup bases, which is included for free. You also get a soft serve ice cream cone for free, in a black charcoal cone. They will cook your order for you. It takes around 10 mins to cook. They give you a stick with a number. They will deliver your dish to you. The customer service was good. They are actually the same ownership as Haidilao. This is why there is self-serve dessert, just like Haidilao. There are table and counter seating areas. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms and a third gender-neutral wheelchair accessible washroom. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2025-163

The personalized hotpot noodles by weight restaurant has blown up and there's always a line up. Hi Bowl got on this trend and opened up right across from the viral restaurant. We went a bit earlier than the lunch rush and were seated immediately. Service: 5 stars - they provided you with hair ties for long haired girlies and an apron. Everyone was courteous and water was serviced immediately as we sat downs Ambiance: 5 stars - the booth seating and table seating provided nice comfortable space for small and larger groups Food: the raw bar had some interesting variations of the hotpot toppings. They refilled frequently and ingredients looked fresh. Dessert bar: you can choose softserve to be brought to your table, which I found a bit runny. There's also a Chinese iced jello dessert in the self serve area. If I had not visited other similar restaurant I would rank this place a 5 star but in comparison I preferred the other restaurant a bit more as I liked their soup base choices, rich creamy soft serve and more spacious seating. Personal note: I'm not sure what they used in their soup bases but I developed a stomachache and headache after so I suspected it's something in their soup that I was sensitive to. My friend was alright.

The concept of this restaurant is very unique and interesting - you pick your own ingredients, hand it over to the cashier, pick your broth, then they serve you hotpot. I liked the efficiency of the service however the layout could probably be improved for better flow. It was fun to try!

Portion was so big that you would be full, and might have to doggy bag. Most importantly, food tasted good. Short ribs stew had many pieces of beef. Squids hot plate was saucy. Definitely at least 25 minutes wait while I watch everyone else get their hot pot as we all laid around the same time. Because towards after initial entering there was not another large group of people having lunch. So factor in how busy the line is and how long you will wait to receive your food.
