I hate to do this but by god, it needs to be told. I'm never particular about my hair but I hated this one. I had my hair cut here by Margie and it was worse than anything I got in my life. It ended up not symmetrical and it was way too short in the front. During the hair cut I trired pointing out that she was taking too much off from the front but It didn't seem like she got it. She was nice enough and seemed like she did her best but I ended up with an atrocious hair and was very upset. Maybe she's not experienced with male haircuts. If you're a guy, do not get your hair done by her. My quick fix was to wear a hat. read more

I really liked the fringe cut on his picture gallery. I wanted an asymmetrical bob with fringe blunt bangs and have shown him pictures. His comment was "well all the pictures you have shown me are pictures of girls who are white." My reaction was umm yeah and I'm asian so can you do it or not? Long story short he finished with an asymmetrical type bob, but I had to remind him that I wanted bangs. He used shearing scissors to cut my bangs....EEEK! I didn't need shearing of the blunt fringe bangs I wanted. Now they stick straight up and I have to pin them down until they grow out. I don't think I'll be going back to him. read more

I've been going to see Alvin since 2012. He takes his time to make you look good. I'm glad he's doing well at this location because he's one the most accommodating guys. I can text him the same day and get a hair cut appointment. He'll even squeeze you in if he'll loose some of his lunch break (I didn't do this... while I was getting my hair cut, one of his "nicest" repeat customers was trying to squeeze in an appt for the next day). Alvin was terrific, if a little scared that I was willing to let him do whatever he wanted. The "salon" is located in a larger building shared by a number of other salon setups. It is not great for foot traffic so word of mouth is how he gets clients. His place is no frills but clean and it looked well stocked with every hair product you could possibly need. I have baby fine hair, but a ton of it, and it has been getting weirdly wavy and frizzy and pretty unmanageable. Alvin was able to work with it and gave me some basic styling tips. It was my first haircut in Cali after moving here from Texas and I've only ever trusted one person ever to cut my hair (Azar at Toni and guy in first colony mall - adore her). He did an ok job - I didn't want anything too complicated - just long layers. I was slightly annoyed bc I had said I wanted 3 inches cut and still wanted my hair to fall below my shoulders. I've always gone to the same salon in San Jose but since I moved to foster city and don't have all the time in the world I decided to try this place out. Much to my surprise I loved the haircut but more so Alvin really spent a lot of time and put in a lot of attention to detail. I've never been treated so well at a salon. Ask for Margie when you come in to Top Image Salon. I followed Margie from Regis at Hillsdale!!!! I normally don't follow my hairstylist but she's the only person you can really talk to about your hair. I like changing my hairstyles and so she doesn't mind me asking her 100 questions. I recently colored my hair for the first time and I LOVE IT!!! She's willing to work with your schedule unlike my other hairstylist couldn't do. My favorite part of the experience with Margie is the hair washing!!! So if you come in get your hair wash too because she massages your head and it's AMAZING! I love her work so much, I have asked her to do my wedding hair and it's reasonably priced and with many trials till I decided which hair do, I liked. read more
