Omg, what a pleasant surprise to find such an inviting, cozy restaurant with a spectacular valley view and great food onsite on a Hilton property! From Tom, who took my dinner reservation and greeted us at the restaurant entrance, to our youthful servers, everyone was welcoming, helpful with recommendations and accommodating. I ordered a refreshing glass of delicious raspberry sangria along with a cup of mushroom soup to start. Complimentary warm Bread was served with olive oil. The soup was thick, rich and creamy. I tried the Stuffed Filet of Sole on a rice pilaf. It was fabulous - flavorful and filling. Wish I'd had room for one of the desserts, but maybe next time! read more

I've had dinner here several times and always have a great experience. The servers are friendly and do a great job. The food is very good. The seafood dishes are very good and it's a varied menu. There are specials on the weekends but not during the week. One flaw is the lack of vegetarian dishes. Every time my son eats here with us, he has to special request something. We visited here on a Friday night around 7 pm and it wasn't that busy at all. I immediately loved the upbeat personality of our server who greeted us right away and took our drink order and handed us menus. There are so many great menu items, I had a hard time choosing one! I ordered the calamari appetizer and a steak with a crabcake and potato pancake. The calamari was lightly breaded and perfectly fried. I couldn't stop eating it! My steak was cooked exactly how I ordered and the crab cake was mostly crab - not filler, which is always a plus! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his chicken parm that he couldn't finish after making a bet with our server-- It was huge! I had tiramisu for dessert, which is my fave. Top of the 80's is one of those places I've been to before but wasn't compelled to review it yet... even though you thought it did! No, I did not... so this review is based on some of my overall experiences. I don't have experience coordinating events (parties and weddings), but I can probably imagine they'd go just swimmingly. I'll update once that opportunity presents itself. A step back through time even in an era before the Poconos didn't start morphing into modernism, and that can be a good thing. I've had steaks here that rivaled a top tier steakhouse brand and the French onion soup wasn't overly salty, but delectably pleasant. It's worth bragging about - but not here! It's not their thing and it's refreshing to see another restaurant not getting into social media begging to reel in customers with seductive cocktails and similar dishes that are mostly overrated. If you have to advertise it heavily, that's a red flag or your crowd will get tired! So, don't get me WRONG... everyone is trying to stay afloat these days but the management and staff here really are doing what's worked for decades. A similar restaurant with a view in the city would cost you hundreds with tacked on small plate and dessert offers you probably won't eat, anyway. I highly recommend reservations if you want a table side view because otherwise there's simply no guarantee no matter who you are... or if you can buy up the entire menu like someone's odd claim below mine. *trying not to roll my eyes* Perfect for whatever occasion or with parents and yes, they do vegan fare upon polite request. Honestly, a favorite... and probably the best bet in this region as well as Pocono region. read more

The views were amazing and the ambiance was average with an old fashioned style. The food was good but host service was terrible. I ordered a medium rare filet mignon which was not cooked properly. When sent back for being more on the medium temperature, the server took the plate back and kindly apologized. Great! However, the host decided to come back with my steak which now was cut in half and proceeded to educate me on how that steak was not overcooked. He ended up taking the steak back and properly having the kitchen cooking the steak, but I've never been to a restaurant where the host or server or anyone will challenge the customer and show back the plate to proof a point. Very unprofessional. I've been to many high end restaurants and this is definitely not one, nor a classy one. I recall - YEARS AGO - I was, ahem, "dating" this one chic that lived in the area of this restaurant......she couldn't figure out why they named this restaurant TOP OF THE 80'S....any moron with half a brain could figure out the name because it's sits fairly close to where route 80 and 81 connect. Thankfully for her she was super hot....... ANYWAY......this place is classy with an old school vibe. Nothing fancy, just good solid food. The prices dwell in the $40 per plate realm - that discourages the riff-raff from patronizing the establishment. The food is well prepared and served in a reasonable time frame. It's been a couple of months since I've been there, but I'm confidence that I ordered the seafood and my dinner companion ordered the chicken......we were both pleased with our dinners. If your driving through the area and looking for a relaxing dinner, this place should be at the top of your list. read more

The view from this restaurant is about as good as it gets. The staff is always polite and attentive. The food is good, but not at the level that aligns with the prices (in my honest opinion). None the less, they have a strong following from the local area and are a choice for many, in town for business dinners. The fresh onion soup was good. Steaks are decent and the chicken parmesan was a large portion and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the sauce they poured over the top was watery and lacked flavor. This place makes you feel like you're living in the 80's for sure. As soon as you enter, you feel like you just walked into a time machine. Since that is what their style is, they did a good job with the decor. The view was incredible. I could see almost all of Hazleton, PA which was my favorite part. I was only here for dessert and tea with a friend. I found it to be very average, even the tea. Many people from this area do enjoy coming here and recommend it. Tonight I had the filet and baked potato. The steak was cooked to perfection, my bartender was very attentive, and the views, oh the views. So nice that my kids asked to come on my next business trip. People take bad reviews with a grain of salt. 4/29/19. I just had a steak here that would rival any top tier steakhouse in NY. I'm new to the area and have yet to find a restaurant that I really like, and then I found top of the 80's! The atmosphere is great, spectacular view, great food, and I really enjoyed the live music. I will say the prices are very similar to New York restaurant prices (where I'm from) so I could see that being an issue for people who live in the area. I will pay for good food though and it's definitely good food. For an appetizer I got the French onion soup, and for my entree I got the chicken & crab piccata. The soup was like any French onion soup but the chicken & crab was delicious! I wasn't a fan of the mashed potatoes that came with it, I would opt for a baked potato next time. We got a bottle of California Chardonnay which was reasonably priced and a great Chardonnay. All around a great restaurant and a great date spot. I'll be coming back in the future! read more

The chicken parm is always breaded so perfectly, and their steaks are always grilled the way I order them. We ate at the Top of the 80's while staying at the Hampton Inn next door. I had not been here in many years but found the food just as good as I remembered it. We started with calamari that was nicely cooked with a tasty dipping sauce. I had French Onion soup that was very good and hubby had the clam chowder that he said was some of the best he's had. We both got turkey dinners that were so big we didn't finish them and skipped dessert we were so stuffed. Top of the 80's is pricey for the area but if you want a nice meal with a great view, it is worth a visit. read more

The views and the atmosphere in this place makes it a 5 plus star. There is a soft beautiful, romantic Aura to this whole restaurant. It is big. The tables by the windows gives you that over the top mountain view with city lights and forest to see. Is a fantastic place to bring someone for a date. My son loved it, He was amazed at the views, and nothing brings more happiness to me than to bring him to new places to flavor and experience. He got some chicken and pasta dish, I had some Lobster dish which only had small pieces of Lobster in it. Regardless, the food, salad, and wine tasted good. All the staff were really nice, I can say excellent customer service. I think the name of the Red wine was Red Cat or something Cat, a soft sweet red wine. read more

The downstairs room radiates with gorgeous light through the huge picture window. I can't praise enough the inexhaustible efforts of General Manager Jackie Van Gieson who ensures that everything is exactly as you want it. Accommodating, pleasant and very patient, Jackie works tirelessly to get the job done perfectly. Her motto? "However you want it, we'll do it". She is truly outstanding coordinating every detail with a positive and confident flair! Thank you, Jackie, for always making us look good! We have always started our parties with a variety of hors d'oeuvres that are all absolutely delicious. I also recommend the bar service! After having ordered from the Buffet Menu twice and the Family Style Menu for my wedding, I can honestly say both are outstanding. The variety of superbly prepared fresh salads, entrees and vegetables have always been phenomenal and highly praised by my guests. A restaurant can have a fantastic General Manager like Jackie working on events and the menu can be top-notch, but without a great waitstaff, it can all go South...fast! Never the case at Top of the 80's. The lovely and attentive Wanda and Jody, along with a support staff like David and Braden, have got it all covered.
