Donuts are good but it seems like every time I am in the area and want to buy donuts they are either closed or have very limited selection

TL;DR: dense donuts. Parking: street side. Atmosphere: cafe-like setting with loud coffee noises. Menu: on the wall. Service: order and pay at the front, your drink order will be announced when ready for pick up. Donuts: limited selection towards the end of the day but they do still taste fresh and not stale. The donuts are denser than some other places (almost cake-like) and all have the same base texture/flavor aside from the frosting/seasonings/fillings in them. Donut Holes: a nice little assortment of different flavors. I appreciated this "tapas" version as opposed to committing to a dense donut that was just one flavor. My palate likes variety. Nothing really wowed me flavor-wise and I didn't think anything was overly unique. I did appreciate the denseness of the donut though. I was surprised at how small the donut case was at the register. It was my first time visiting this place and I thought there would be a larger case for a donut shop. I also visited toward the end of the day so the case was practically empty. Old fashioned doughnuts are my absolute favorite doughnut style, and I'm unnecessarily critical about them, but Top Pot does a great job! Two issues most places have are the texture, and the oil flavors seeping into the doughnut when they fry them. In the three that I tried (glazed pumpkin, maple frosted, and regular glazed), only one (the regular glazed) didn't hit the mark. The other two? Perfect crispiness on the outside, without drying out the inside. Doughnuts that tasted like doughnuts and not like you stuck a straw into the oil bottle! Wonderful glazes that hardened juuuuuuuuuust right so they annoyingly crumble onto whatever lays beneath. The regular glazed was soft and definitely took in a bit too much oil, but the perfection of the others made up for it! The maple bar was delicious, as always! One of the few non-old fashioned doughnuts that I still love! The only knock that this location has is the staff. I know it was quite early when we came, but the shop was dead, and the staff there must not have had their best morning people scheduled that day. That's not to say they weren't nice, but they certainly weren't acting thrilled to see customers when we walked in. To be fair, I hadn't been to Top Pot in like 8 years, so when they reluctantly got up and waited on us, I was definitely that extra annoying customer with too much excitement, and an inability to avoid adding more and more to the order. I apologized for my giddiness, but the stone cold personality of the staff made me feel as awkward as I'm sure I was. Luckily, no one was behind us, or they'd have really been angry. Regardless, if you like old fashioned doughnuts, Top Pot is excellent, and they had so many flavors to choose from, on top of all of their regular doughnuts! So, yeah. Although the store is small, the staff - in no way - encourages you to get out before you're ready to do so, which is nice. The doughnuts are well made & chewy! Since my favorite doughnut isn't popular, I can usually always order it even if I stop by later in the day. (Hazzuh!!) They also make good coffee drinks here and I'm impressed that so many of the staff members make good foam. It's relatively clean, they have books & games available, they share gender neutral restrooms with Rudy's (nextdoor), and they have bottled non-coffee/non-tea options. The whole reason I ordered Top Pot doughnuts was for the plain apple cider donut. I placed my order last night to make sure I wasn't driving 20 minutes each way for no reason. When I got there, my order was not ready. Rather than putting together orders that came in the overnight together before the store opened, ya know because they were already paid for, they waited and got busy. By the time their rush was over, it was a little past the time I had put in for my order pick up so they just assumed I was not coming at all and still didn't put together my order. When I got there, within a half hour of the pick up time, they didn't have any plain apple cider donuts left. They were not apologetic at all and basically insinuated it was my fault for not being there exactly during the pick up time. They also offer wonderful coffees thus the name! When I first moved to Redmond I actually thought it was a marijuana store!! Get it top 'pot'!! Some claim that's not addictive but I tell you the delicious and fresh Top Pot donuts ARE addictive!! Parking can be a challenge at times. There are limited numbers if spaces inside a parking garage kind of behind the donut shop. This parking I is clearly labeled for retail stores. We stopped by here for a snack, and I have to say that the overall experience was a bit underwhelming. While this Top Pot is smaller than the one I'm used to, there was a pretty limited selection of doughnuts (and we were in there on a Saturday afternoon), with several options only have one or two left. That said, the salted caramel old fashioned that we did order was pretty tasty, although it was a bit dry. Service was also unremarkable, although the people at the counter were friendly enough. There were a few empty unbussed tables there, and there was a dish tray for people to actually bus their own tables, so I'm not sure if they were waiting for those people to come back and clean their tables or what. On the upside, there are board games you can play while you eat your donuts, and also books you can borrow. I'm not sure how many donuts you can eat while you play a game of scrabble, but hey, it's something. There's limited parking in the area, and although there's a lot across the street, it's designated for use by Subway and the mattress shop. read more

Ok, it's really not good that this place is so close to my house. I have always loved Top Pot from a safe distance. I used to live close to another Top Pot, but managed not to pass by it while it was open, and thereby protecting myself from temptation. The only thing to be grateful for now is that I can't see the new Top Pot from my walk to and from the bus. These donuts are for real. I am not a huge donut fan, but Top Pot donuts are like a meal ... of cake and icing. I have never tried anything at Top Pot I didn't like. While this location doesn't have the stellar ambiance of the downtown location (but, really, can you beat a flagship?), this is a great spot for coffee and doughnuts. Especially coffee! I said it before, and I will say it again - Top Pot has the BEST COFFEE! Their lattes are particularly amazing, and this location regularly has monthly special lattes. I recommend checking one out. I tried a "honey bee latte" in February (I think it was honey and vanilla?), and it was to die for. Recently, I tried a cherry-honey latte, which was also exceptional. Love me some Top Pot doughnuts! My favorites are the old fashioned doughnuts. Any of them will do, but plain glazed is my go-to. Or pumpkin glazed when it's in season. But really, any old fashioned doughnut is one worth trying. Don't even worry about the other ones - they honestly pale in comparison (except maybe the maple bar). The old fashioned doughnuts are where it's at! Also, don't forget about their awesome coffee - it's one of my favorites, and goes perfectly with any OLD FASHIONED doughnut. I drove for 25 minutes to this place because of the mostly great reviews that made it seem worth the long drive but after my experience, I definitely identify with everyone here who was left disappointed. I originally wanted a dozen donuts but after seeing how limited and underwhelming their selection was, I chose a box of six. I also ordered two more donuts (8 total), a small cup of coffee, and a bottle of milk. I was incredibly shocked to see the total ring up to $25! Even the amazing donuts at Krispy Kreme are so much cheaper and better in quality. The donuts here were ok, not very memorable, and definitely not worth the commute or terrible pricing. I know, you have to be pretty serious to have one favorite memory laden treat improved upon. It took me forty years to discover how much I could enjoy eating a doughnut! My to-go drink would be iced mocha with whipped cream, who doesn't like whipped cream? ;) I also like the Italian sodas they serve here because they use Monin syrups. OK, that's it. Enough is enough with this place. I come here every weekend on a 75 mile bike ride and stop here for a donut. The donuts are standard top pot donuts which are fine but the staff here is horrible. I keep getting the same large, mean young woman who apparently hates her job, the world and everybody in it. Never a hello, never a thank you. Big sign on the door that advertises cherry fritters which look great. But at 9:30 in the morning they are out of them. So take your damn sign down.
