Never notified never got my signature

One year ago I had my system installed. Top Tier failed in customer service. Calls not returned. "I was sick." I am out of the office." These texts I saved. I have also recorded much of the verbal communications with them. However, in the end my system has been performing very well providing me with approximately 5 months without a Duke Energy bill. Fast forward to 2/23 this year. I get a text from Erick with Top Tier (text message snap shot) under the guise of sending someone from their office to check in with me (a consultation). Erick also inquired as to whether or not I was still get electric bills. I shared the information as I just did in the above paragraph. On February 27 the person who arrived at my home was Wilbert Mitchem. He was a salesperson, not a consultant. He immediately began a sales pitch about a "backup battery." After he laid out what it was I began asking questions. I told him that if I was understanding him correctly this would be a battery I could access (plugging in) for running some of my things inside (fridge, freezer etc). He responded in the positive. I asked him how big this battery would be. He pointed to my Emeril Toaster Oven and told me that it would be a little bigger than that. We then went outside to look at my system...again, was installed over a year ago. It's important to note here that my system also has a battery that simply stores power for any power outages and will run four circuits in my house for up to four days. I set a date with Top Tier for this installation. Wilbert had told me that, even after looking into my pantry/laundrey room, this backup battery could be installed there. I had to message Top Tier that we would have to delay the installation because something had come for me. I asked them to contact me directly with the new installation date. I never heard from them after that. I went out to my garden in my back yard one day early March. As I went to my car I noticed ANOTHER BATTERY attached to my wall. Not just any battery, it was the exact SAME battery as was already installed with my system. Dimensions--30 tall x 42 tall x11 inches deep. Most interesting was the fact that Wilbert stood right in front of the original battery that was installed with my system. So that means he blatantly lied about the battery he was selling or he had no clue WHAT he was selling. The installation took place without me being notified. I have to installers on my security cameras. Top Tier was slow in returning my calls. I was sick or I am out of the office was a frequent response. When I did get someone on the phone they were absolutely not helpful.. I called the fiance company GoodLeap. Essentially they told me.....you signed the paperwork so you're 3crewed. After speaking to Cody at Top Tier I was told pretty much the same thing. Interestingly Wilbert showed up at my door during all this. I have his picture saved on my phone from my ring camera. Through my Nextdoor App I have shared this all over East Charlotte and asked others to spread it across Charlotte. I was cordial to him when I went outside, but I made it very clear to him to never set foot in my yard again or I would have him arrested for trespassing. I am not sure if Wilbert or Top Tier understand that when a salesperson enters a persons home they have no expectation of privacy. When I spoke with Cody yesterday (5/28) I made sure he knew that all of my phone conversations have been and will be recorded. I highly recommend solar especially with Duke prices rising so sharply. For the past three months I have carried a negative balance on my electric bill....yes, Duke is paying me almost $2.50 per month. Top Tier and Goodleap have had numerous complaints. Many have had no remedy. In doing research I have found that the BBB has several unresolved complaints with Top Tier. Based on what I have a read IMO I'd say this smacks of predatory behavior.

    The agent

If I could leave no stars that's what I would do. Had an agent come to my house and after he explained everything he would not leave. I declined the quote process that he was very persistent with. I told him to leave 6 times his name was KHA Williams. Wasn't until i threatened him is when he finally left the house and wanted to fight in the street. You have guys like this coming to people's houses? Police were involved and he fled the scene. I have video of the whole interaction. I hope whoever the owner is contacts me. This guy doesn't need to be working for a company that goes inside your home

Constant scam text messages. Reported to the FCC. I wouldn't hire anyone that does that.

I want to share my story so anyone interested in solar knows the other side. My first year solar production was 57% less than contracted rates. I received 43% of what I paid nearly $40,000 for. I have a contract that states my solar would produce 9602kWh (after change order) for a system that was installed and turned on in October 2024. In July, we knew we were never going to meet that number and something was wrong with the system. We attempted to call several times before I finally emailed multiple leaders at Renu Energy Solutions asking for help on 7/23. What I got was a response from Ariel proving my system was under production and constant disregard of my requests to have someone fix it. We are now 3 months into asking for help and not a single person from Renu has agreed to fix the solar, step foot on my property to look at the solar, or even speak with me on the phone. I believe they have no intent on delivering the production values they quote and use their "we'll pay your Duke bills" guarantee to profit on over charging for an outcome they don't intend to deliver on.This was my experience, which may be a one-off or a change in how the company is run. I can't speak to that, but I can speak to what is currently happening to my household at the time of this review

I went with Freedom after the initial company I was going to use dropped the ball. Freedom was a little more expensive bemuse we selected the top of the line Sun Power panels. Freedom Solar has a decentralized approach to project management. The sales rep would did the initial presentation was okay - a little shaky on his knowledge base. He said he would oversee the project - after a while he dropped out of sight and everything was done via their customer service department. Overall the customer service reps were good. Couple of issues - getting approval from our HOA. They snail mailed the initial application / fee which the HOA said they never received. Customer service resent and eventually we got HOA approval. My question is how come in this day and age was this process not done electronically. Installation day comes - the electrician shows up and works till after sunset to complete his tasks. The panel installers never showed up - we were contacted at the end of their time window. Instead of rescheduling for the install the next day we had to wait a couple of days for somebody to be flown in from Texas (we are in North Carolina). All the inspections passed without issue. The app is easy to use for monitoring. Time will tell how much benefit we will receive - keeping fingers crossed for positive results. One last annoyance - got an invite to a zoom call to review the system and app - BUT it can't be scheduled for several more weeks. Would have thought it would have been scheduled with in a week of turning the system on. I would have preferred if Freedom Solar had a true project manager who coordinated and communicated all that is going on rather than their decentralized approach.

If you are considering doing business with them, please be aware that what you are promised verbally does not align with how these companies actually operate. Deceptive Sales Tactics & Hidden Entities: When I signed up, the sales representative assured me that my new solar bill would be the same or only slightly higher than my current electric bill. Additionally, I was verbally promised that the company had a reimbursement process that would cover up to $5,000 toward replacing my home's roof. The entire signing process was done electronically. At no point was it properly explained or disclosed that Palmetto Lightreach was a separate third-party entity heavily involved in this contract. The final paperwork was incredibly long, deliberately confusing, and failed to clearly outline how the two companies divide responsibilities or who a customer should contact for support. Vanishing Customer Service After Signing: The moment the digital signatures were submitted, communication vanished. The installation took far longer than promised. OWE became completely unreachable, leaving my salesperson as my only point of contact. However, he was frequently "out of the country" and incredibly difficult to reach. The Roof Reimbursement Bait-and-Switch: After the installation was complete, OWE completely reneged on the $5,000 roof reimbursement promise. This is despite ongoing discussions where the salesperson explicitly promised the coverage and even contacted my roofing contractor to gather the documentation required for the reimbursement. For months, OWE claimed they simply "could not reach" their own salesperson to verify the claim. Unbelievably, immediately after I informed them that I filed a formal complaint with the Illinois Attorney General, OWE suddenly claimed the salesperson no longer worked for the company. This convenient timing demonstrates a deeply concerning pattern of shady and evasive business practices. Delay Tactics and Total Administrative Incompetence: Because of these breaches of trust, I contacted both Palmetto and Our World Energy to demand a cancellation of my contract. Both entities have engaged in blatant stonewalling and delay tactics. They repeatedly ignore direct questions, demand "more proof" of things already documented, and routinely close out support tickets claiming the matter is "handled" when absolutely nothing has been resolved. The administrative disarray is so severe that they have even addressed me by the wrong name in official email correspondence. Most recently, OWE's legal team stated they would only communicate with me via email due to potential legal action. Yet, days later, my case was randomly assigned to a new project coordinator who sent me a text message asking "how my experience has been so far." This new representative had no idea who I was, possessed zero knowledge of my ongoing dispute, and clearly failed to read the extensive notes on my file before reaching out. Our World Energy and Palmetto Lightreach operate a system designed to trap homeowners using verbal misrepresentations, layered corporate structures to avoid accountability, and intentional administrative neglect. Do not trust their sales pitches. I have been forced to escalate this to state regulators, and I strongly advise anyone reading this to take their business elsewhere.
