We got a nice kid in a flashy car stop by and set up an appt and said he's guarantee we'd be pleased with having solar panels. He had no badge, maybe one isn't need in NC, and not even a shirt with the logo on it - flag!. We made the appt two days out so I could do some checking. I had completed some research for solar years back and know it's great to have but not if you're overcharged for the panels and install and that you should get a return for your money in about 7 or so years. That said, we met with the guy and he spent FIVE hours at our house attempting to lull us into a form of security that he was so nice he wouldn't rip us of. I had plenty of questions and he even called his boss for help. Or, whomever he called. High pressure from the get-go and I kept saying that there's no need for pressure if the product is good. He claimed he wasn't (Oh, the guy's name was Mike, no last name and wouldn't give one in subsequent emais - flag) paid by commission, so I guess he's doing this "selling" for the Company for free. He told a neighbor we went to speak with, he was paid hourly and he was with them for ELEVEN HOURS.- bigger flag). I had completed a little checking on our needs and already calculated that we'd need 25 panels so, all we needed to do was talk money but not before listening to about four hours of more pressure repeated that solar is great and we'll get a lot more from it than we ever would paying Roanoke-co-op. The biggest thing that got me was that he said that within a year and a half and it we would 'get a total of 46% on rebates reduced the amount he wanted from us to almost half. What a deal - flag! But I wanted to know where that money was coming from and he said, the gov't. - bigger flag! So, we signed and here's the interesting part. Nowhere is Top Tier mentioned to show we signed on to anything from them. - HUGE flag! Then, he kept saying, don't worry we'll take care of everything and we have the best people and yada yada. They may but when we bought our roof the name of the supplier was all over it AND mentioned that they are doing financing through another company and we go SEE the company selling us the roof's name over lots of stuff. Top Tier? NADA. Not one mention of it anywhere. - throw in a couple of flags here! So, I emailed "Solar Mike" and aked him where it's printied that his people will be able to get those rebates for us to use against the amount due. "He'll get back to me". - Flag! I iasked him to show me something from Top Tier and then realized I didn't even know this guy's full name, so I asked him and he avoided giving it to me - DONE. Too many flags to hold so we're bailing and then I got another quote and it quoted me a price that was almost a THIRD of what Top Tier wanted and comes recommended by Roanoke electric. So, we took a partial bullet for those in Gates County on this and we baled. The 30% is available for solar installs until 2032, it's all online. I'm not a huge proponent of going on-line for stuff, but this is important and I would suggest one look up reviews of companies, the BBB and read what they say and then if they left you with someone else who just signed up, go and speak with them. When we got our roof installed, we had to watch them through the process and we would have been taken had I not had some knowledge of roofing and then asked others, but we got what we paid for. This company, nope. Perhaps 'the' company isn't so bad and why the mixed reviews but the LLC they got to get them business is not right and if you read the financial agreement it states that they make NO guarantees on rebates for anything AND they have you sign that you won't sue the financial company for being used by Top Tier. BUT, Top Tier isn't listed anywhere. In fact, the way this looks at the moment, You sign for a loan for how ever long you have it and Top Tier can disappear and you'll only have the debt. If they do come, make sure you get the panels they said you would and hopefully you're young enough to enjoy the return on this. And, remember what your folks always, always told you - especially if they were burned. If it sounds too goot to be true, it probably is. I will post more after we finish out the cancelling of this to give you a clue as to what that process will take too, but I'll post that on the Gates website. Going forward, have your phone with you when people come a-selling and take a pic of them and their car showing the license plate. That might scare them enough to realize you can't be had. I knew there was something wrong, but couldn't prove it without signing. I even know how they were planning to "use their team of Tax advisers" to get that cash flow and they would sign you up as an LLC, which is a company expected to pay taxes and can be audited and have you use that company to get a "company" rebate which households don't get. We get a whopping $600 for a couple of years and that's IT. Look it up! read more

Beyond sorry, a bunch of liars, a big mistake, the lies they tell took a year to hook us up, then the tax credit was a lie, didn't get it. I've been in my house for 27 years my PWC bills were 325 to 450 every month now we are paying 544.00 a month solar bill and still getting 350 to 400 a month bills from PWC which include our water and sewage bill they did not consider when making our bill so now I'm paying 900 to 950 every month and locked in on a 20-year loan talked to about 15 different people supposed to help they didn't. I live in Fayetteville they have come out several times and checked the system just to always say everything is working properly but PWC says no I'm only getting credit for 18 to 30 a month that's all the power my panels are saving me that's why I'm still paying a regular PWC bill like I don't even have solar that's the crazy part I really don't want to ruin my credit but its ok cause I will not make another payment that for sure I'm done. Their sales people have canvased our Appalachian neighborhood sending unprofessional young people to each door 2-3 times a week all summer long. They are usually tattooed all over their necks, chests, hands, etc, wearing either grunge style apparel or basketball shorts and Crocs. When I said I wasn't interested, he argued with me in a rude manner, telling me how wrong I was because I didn't want solar panels. I politely asked him to leave, and he continued to argue. I stopped answering his questions about why I wasn't interested, and asked him to leave again. He would not even step off of my porch, so I told him I was going to call the police because at this point he had been asked to leave, therefore he was trespassing. He told me that the police couldn't stop him from knocking on my door, and that he could stay on my porch all day and there would be nothing the police could do about it. (Not true) I then escorted him to the road without ever touching him. He said I was assaulting him by walking him off my property. I went inside and shut the door. He then stood in the street in front of my house, saying that the road was not private property and he would stay there all day if he wanted. My opinion is "Be my guest, as long as you're not at my front door speaking to me in a threatening manner". The previous day, I told one of their salesmen that I wasn't interested bc we didn't have enough direct sun in the mountains to make the return on my investment worth the cost. He told me their solar panels were different, that they only needed a few minutes of light per day, even with cloud cover, to provide full power to my 2 story, 2500 sq ft home with central air conditioning. In the wise words of Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means." Had problems from the start. can never get help when needed. Then the had the nerve to come to me a year after installing panels to tell me about this great deal they were going to offer me with an alarm system for security and to help prevent my panels from overheating and possible fire. then saying they knew about this when I bought them but didn't have a way to prevent or notify you until now. This should have been told to me before I bought it and spent $65k plus! My recommendation is not to do it because the cost does not outweigh the benefits! they also told me it would add 20% more value to my home. A Tale of a Scam: A young man came by, I believe his name was John; stating he was with Top Tier, and scheduling appointments for the company he was working for to schedule said appointments in conjunction with working with Duke Energy. I gave Duke a quick pm because something did not seem right. Duke got back to me and said he should have had a proper ID badge. The dude did not have a car in the area, he was walking the streets talking to people, scheduling these appointments and wanted to see my yearly energy report. He had a copy of an energy report and wanted to take a picture of mine. I told him NO! He wanted to see my meter. Said I was a "Level 2" which was a "good sign?" Mentioned also that Duke was putting the screws to us by hiking up our rates by 18%! I called Duke this morning because this company had a tentative appt. with me today at 1:30 pm. Top Tier Solar Solutions is listed with the BBB but while the complaints are numerous, they seem to have an A+ rating. I don't think so! They are not working with nor are they contracted out by Duke and should not have been taking pictures and collecting info the way they were by recording people's energy reports. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY! We were told by two separate individuals with the company that if we decided to move, they would take the panels back and terminate our loan. We knew that we would be moving within the next year or two when we considered getting the panels and made sure to clarify with the door to door sales person as well as the contracts agent what our options were when we moved. We are now moving and top tier is forcing us to pay off our $25k loan if the new owners will not take over our contract (which NO ONE wants to because most months we actually pay more than our neighbors do with our monthly payments!). This is the biggest scam we have ever been involved in. Top Tier came and knocked on our door the first week of April., April 7th. We are in Greensboro and they're a company from Charlotte. They asked if I'd be interested in installing solar and we said we'd like to hear how much it would cost. They came and spoke to us but never gave us an amount, saying it would be determined solely by what rebates the government is currently offering which was going to expire soon. We said we weren't interested now but maybe in the future. On the 23rd of April we got a notice from a bank called Sunlight Financial, they fund solar installations. There were two letters of denial for a loan, one to my 87 year old mom and one to my deceased father. I don't know 100% if this was the result of Top Tier but they had just approached us regarding solar installation and the bank Sunlight funds Solar Installation. We never said we wanted a loan or to apply for a loan and my dad is no longer living. I would be careful with anyone knocking on your door. Make sure to look up reviews and don't divulge any personal information. read more

Our neighbor had this company install solar panels on their house. My husband was home that day, watched the crew begin their job while working on our boat. My husband had to leave to grab something to finish what he was doing. Within maybe 10 minutes of him leaving our house, another truck pulled up. This truck tried to get into our neighbors driveway but quickly realized their truck was not going to fit and took it upon themselves to pull all the way up our driveway, park their truck and unload their tools and material to finish the job on our neighbors house. When approached and asked to leave they became very disgruntled and stated I guess we will have to load our trucks up and leave for no reason. When they were informed that my husband would be back soon they demanded to know when he would be back and why they had to move. They backed their trucks down our driveway nearly hitting our fence and security cameras. They ran through our yard, rutted it up and left it damaged. In Maryland we have received four straight days of rain and it is still raining. When I reached out to the project manager she became rude and insisted that her crew had no knowledge that they were in the wrong driveway! When I told her we had the entire incident on video she stated she wasn't going to argue which was fine and to send pictures so she could document the incident. I will update on the outcome of damages being fixed! Stay far away from this company. They are unprofessional, rude and clearly lie to make themselves look like an honest crew! read more

After being a Top Tier customer for nearly a year now, I feel I must share my experience thus far with this company. At first, Top Tier was great in terms of getting everything setup for our panels and getting them installed. The customer service during this time was fantastic, and they seemed like they genuinely cared. This all changed, though, after the panels were installed and turned on. As soon as this happened, it was like someone flipped a switch, and everything went belly up. It suddenly became nearly impossible to get ahold of anyone at the company, and when I did, they either brushed me off or took weeks to respond. It also seems like this company is a revolving door as far as employees go. On the rare occasion I was able to get ahold of someone who actually seemed interested in helping me, they usually wound up leaving the company after a month or two, which resulted in me being pushed off to the next person. As far as technical issues with the panels go, we have had several in a very short period of time. The biggest issue we have faced is that the panels have not been generating anywhere near what they told me they would. On average, each month we produce about half the energy we are supposed to, which results in us paying hundreds of dollars in electricity bills on top of the hundreds we pay in solar panel payments. This is not at all what they told us it would be like. I have called them several times about this issue, but for months I have been brushed off and disregarded over and over again. We have also had issues with our ability to monitor our energy consumption, and as of right now we can't monitor our consumption at all, and according to Top Tier, they have no idea when they will be able to fix this issue. At the end of the day, Top Tier is a sham of a company that takes advantage of people with a flashy sales routine and then never delivers on any of their promises. I honestly wish I never got panels to begin with, and if I could just get rid of them, I would, because they and Top Tier are not worth the massive and repeated headaches they have caused. If you are looking into getting solar panels, I cannot recommend strongly enough to look elsewhere because this company will lie to you and cheat you at every corner. I also feel it is worth adding that the only reason they have such high reviews everywhere is because they bribe their customers to give them good reviews by offering them gift cards for every positive review they write. Absolutely run as far as you can from this company. We have had nothing but headaches and conflict with this company since we signed up. We are now over 2 months from them installing the panels and leaving debris scattered around our whole yard (large metal pieces used for the installation, including a 4 foot long metal rail that fell off of our roof about a week after installation) and we still haven't had the panels turned on because we have gotten zero communication from the company. They continuously ask us to clear our schedules for days at a time or make random appointments for their staff to come to our house without actually notifying us except by us receiving a text telling us someone is coming and then don't show up during those times regardless. It is currently almost 2 PM on a Monday that they asked us to be available from 8-5 for them to come out and do a building inspection. When we finally reached out to them around 1PM asking if there was any kind of estimate for time, they informed us that they actually won't be coming today. In other words, we cleared our entire day to be home for them and they decided to cancel without informing us until WE ASKED. We had asked what it would take to break our contract at this point because we have been so unimpressed with the service but were told it would be about 60% of the contract since they installed the solar panels already. Funnily enough, the installation happened incredibly quickly, about a week from us starting any co tact with this company, and then everything else seems to grind to a halt. When we spoke to one of their employees with some complaints they informed us that even their own father in law had a terrible experience with the company, as if that was supposed to make us feel better? Appears internal team communication is lacking as I as provided misleading information from several different team members and communication between teams appears to be lacking as I have to provide background when talking to company, I was under the assumption that information was being documented and accessible to provide their team with the correct information. Communication from company is good with providing where in the process you are but very lacking in providing updates or solutions when there is a problem. There is lack of transparency or knowledge at times that provides untrustworthy feeling as a customer. Recently was in contact, about pricing and were unwilling to help with price when I was sold the wrong micro-invetor. Staying that the older model was actually "better" then why was is sold the new model in the first place? They lack a lot of transparency and communication to provide knowledge and information. This pattern is also reflected within negative customer reviews on file with BBB - 36 out of 39 negative reviews (92%) reflect the same experiences as described in complaints. Complainants allege that they were sold their systems by high-pressure door-to-door sales staff and that in those in-home presentations, they felt the sales team misled them about how much savings they could expect from purchasing home solar and about how long the installation and inspection process would take. Many of these consumers report contacting the company numerous times about this and that while the company may be responsive to them, they believe the underlying issues remain unresolved. BBB contacted the company regarding this pattern of complaints by email on June 3, 2024. I have a contract with TopTier solar, signed in October 2023. The installation of panels were done in November 2023. The project project manager during installation was ok and responded to us quite quickly but the engineer team were so slow in fixing the problem. They are not keeping up-to-date with regulations (I'm in Chesterfield county, VA) and I'm still having a problem with building permit. They always postponed the scheduled as they have short of staff!!! Last week (6/13/2024), I thought we got a good news that Dominion Energy approved to turn on the panel but until now the system is not online yet! So overall, this company is bad one to deal with. It has been more than 6 months which we have to pay both electricity bill and the solar panel itself. I would recommend you dealing with other companies (my closed friend who also living in Chesterfield County, VA) has signed contract with A*T - they started the project after mine (in January), now their panels has been up and running smoothly. That company cost, when I knew from my friend I almost faint.. they pay much lesser than mine. I'm so glad that they didn't decide to use TopTier when I recommend the salesperson to them. read more

This company lied thru their teeth to me. They took total advantage that I was a Senior Citizen....single..and alone. They overcharged me not once but twice..the 1st time they told me they would eliminate my power bill..and years down the road when everyone else with Duke Energy will be paying 4 and 500 dollar power bill..yours will be less than $15...they told me my panels had a warranty the life of the loan and they would repair or replace as needed...they also promised my roof was under warranty and if I had any leaks they would replace /repair my roof for the life of the loan. They charged me 42k for 23 panels. Then told me I needed 5 more. While others have gotten additional panels for free..I was charged 14k...plus for 5 more panels. So I've got 2 payments..plus my power bill is higher than before I got the panels. I'm searching for an attorney that will help me. This company forgets you once they get your signature. The engineers placed the panels in the wrong sides of our house, so that we were only getting a fraction of the power we need and much less than we were promised. In December, the panels produced $10 worth of power, though we were promised that the panels would cover our entire bill. They will not fix this problem they created but will sell us an entire new set of panels that we have to pay for. read more

*I started this process on March 16. Today is August 25 and the solar panels still are not turned on at my house. *The credibility with this company is completely shot. There have been nothing but lies but they blame it on miscommunication. I asked very specific questions for reasons like how long would this process take. I was told 4 to 6 weeks. *Originally I was going to put a Generac system on my house to keep power if my electric company loses power. I was sold on to the solar panels with a 10Kw backup battery to keep my whole house powered but on June 30 the installers installed a 3.5 Kw battery which will not power my whole house! only 3 circuits. *I was offered a two month incentive deferred payment and because I am a disabled veteran I was offered an extra four months and was told that my first payment would not start until November. The salesman even had her manager on speaker phone and he confirmed first payment in November but that was a lie. *The loan company expected payment in July and my panels are still not active!!! * top-tier eventually cut a check for the first two months to shut me up but now I am paying the loan for the solar panels and my original electric bill. * I have asked on several occasions for a managers phone number because the people you talk to every day will not solve your problems but they eventually stopped answering my calls after giving me a false phone number that was disconnected. *My advice to anyone is to not deal with this company at all because customer service satisfaction is at the bottom of their priority list. They will say what they need to say to make a sell and get the panels on your house just to start the clock to get you paying then they don't care to complete the job. The worst part is that they will give you what they want you to have instead of what was agreed on at the initial sales appointment. We first got involved with Top Tier last summer. we had just recently bought our house but had summer utility bills to show our usage. After agreeing to everything, it took over a month for installation, it then took over a month for the inspection to turn it on. now we have been utilizing our solar panels for about 8/9 months. After the initial hic-ups it was great. our bill was right around where we were told it would be. Every month for the last 3/4 months our electric bill has gone from 30$ up to almost 200$. when we contacted top tier about it, we were told we were producing great but the estimate we were given for how many panels we needed was wrong but it was our fault for not providing a years worth of utility bills. Having solar has only decreased our electric bill by roughly 90$ so now we are paying double what we were last summer between solar payments and electric. our only mistake was trying to use a smaller local company who does not care about their customers read more

Top Tier Solar Solutions has been a huge disappointment this far and they aren't even done yet, unfortunately. The salesman gave me a timeline of events that turned out to be completely untrue. I was told it would be about 2 months to get my panels activated and producing power. I was making payments for 6 months before my solar panels were even "activated". And even now, a majority of the solar panels aren't even working properly so I have to wait almost 2 months after activation to get them to even work in my home. It has now been 10 months since installation of the panels and 8 months of payments already made and the job still isn't done. I would not recommend Top Tier Solar Solutions nor Sunlight Financial for the loan. They are very shady and withholding which is a red flag for me. Now, I cannot sell my house because nobody wants to buy $70,000 non-operational solar panels. I keep getting rescheduled for them to be fixed and now I am going on 1 year and they still aren't done. This has been an awful and stressful experience that has made me regret my decision to get solar panels. Would not recommend. read more

It has now been 4 MONTHS since I got my solar panels installed and they still ARE NOT WORKING. The Top Tier salesperson that came knocking at my door was very eager to have me agree on going Solar with them and applying for the $25,000+ loan and even had their team out to install them in less than a week of me signing on with them. I was pretty excited BUT since the install date back in October of 2021 my system inspection has FAILED FIVE times so far and I still haven't utilized my investment. Ive called and talked to a couple project managers a few times every month since install and they keep feeding me bullshit. The last inspection done by Mecklenburg County took place on January 6th (which obviously failed) and someone from Top Tier finally came out a few days later to "fix" the problems. I got on the phone with the regional manager and of course he assured me that I will be taken care of and kept trying to feed me more bullshit. I am beyond disappointed with this company and strongly suggest to look elsewhere if you're considering going solar. This has been the most frustrating experience ever and I like to consider myself a pretty patient person. read more

Worst nightmare of my life. On June 2022, Mr. Mark Spencer from Top Tier Solar Solutions came over my house selling me all this lies about how great this company was. He told me they donate a portion of their profit to Military Missions in Action, that is a LIE. He also said that I would be getting a $13,000 incentive refund from the government for going solar, which I was supposed to put back towards the loan to prevent my monthly payment go up another LIE. Well the panels were install in no time but almost 8mo later my system is not on yet, I never got the money I was supposed to get, another big fat lie, instead is a "credit" I have been calling and texting Mrs. Spencer he never answers or return my calls. When I call the main office in Charlotte they told me they never said nothing about getting money back, treat me like I was crazy. The systems still not running yet but Dividend Finance, which is the loan company, is been taking the loan payment out of my bank since Nov 2022. No emails or notifications were received to warn me that they will start taking in the money from our bank account. So not only am I paying Duke my monthly light bill but also the loan for the solar panels, I have to call Top Tier every month so they can reimbursed me for the loan payment. Now a couple of days ago I got a call from Lori from Top Tier stating we have the OK from Duke to start the system. I asked about the bill that I have for this month with Duke, she stated once the system is on they are done and I'm responsible for everything. So now I'm going to have two bills to pay Duke & Dividend Finance (loan company) until pretty much April. Where is the part of me "saving money"?
