Oscar and his team quite literally saved my life. When you buy a new home, you never know what surprises are waiting behind the walls. Oscar went above and beyond to make sure I was safe, that the job was done correctly, and that they'd leave with absolutely no trace they were ever there. Mid-project, they had to open a wall, and not only did they patch the drywall, but they painted it, too -- you'd never know it was touched. He took the time to explain everything in detail so I could actually understand the process, documented every step, and made me feel like a true partner in the project. One thing he said that really stuck with me was: "I know you own the house, but it's our fireplace now." That level of care and pride in his work says it all. Their sales system was basically providing the offer of a "low cost" chimney cleaning, as a segue for more upsells. Since then, they've CONSTANTLY pestered me year after year with sales calls / offers for chimney cleaning since they are "in my area." I've asked them again and again to REMOVE my number from their list - but they won't listen, so I've reported them now to the FTC since my number is on the DO NOT CALL list. Sorry, but any contractor worth his salt is always busy and doesn't need to drum up business (Hint: I manage 7 doors locally and over 40+ units now / over 100+ at the height of my holdings - every great pro I know is booked weeks / months out). Dom was knowledgeable, kind, and professional. He got the work done fast and took photos for us. Here's where things went wrong: In our consultation with Dom he told us our chimney needed to be relined and repointed. He quoted us $3,600 but told us if we paid cash it would be significantly less. Cash would bring the total down to $2,900. We're new home owners and have been spending quite a bit to fix the place up, so naturally we jumped at the lower price. We paid cash in full. Before Dom left he notified us that he didn't have time to repoint the chimney but he would come back over the weekend. He never came back. We called and texted him multiple times over the course of a month. He would set dates with us and then no show. Eventually we called the owner of Irish Sweeps Chimney and at first he promised to make it right. Then he said he couldn't do anything without proof money was exchanged. Dom didn't give us a receipt for the cash we gave him so it was our word against his. We have multiple texts and calls from him promising to come finish the job but it wasn't enough. I understand why the owner would side with his employee, but it's very disappointing that this happened in the first place. We paid him thousands and even tipped him. In retrospect was it a little stupid to not get a receipt? Yes, for sure. However based on the stellar reviews, Dom's charm, and his promise to come back, I didn't think much of it at the time. We put our trust into a company we thought was reputable and one awful employee took advantage of that. Don't let first impressions fool you-- save your money and hire someone that will actually do what you pay them to do.

The only reason I brought them in was to clean and make sure it was working properly. I've been told by others who have since tried to help us get it working that we probably need to remove the fan that they convinced us we needed. And charged us so much for. Even if the fan did work (which it doesn't - smoke billows into the living room -- NEVER did that before Ace came) the fan sounds like an engine on an airplane, which takes away any chance of enjoying a fire. I should have written this ages ago, but I was hoping we would figure out a way to make it work. If you have an older house, PLEASE find a company that knows what they are doing. We are SO frustrated with not being able to enjoy our beautiful fireplace.

He came to my house at the time of our appointment- I appreciated this a great deal as I work from home and have a schedule to keep. He inspected my chimney and noticed an issue I was having was caused by the damper as it was off track. He put it back in alignment and was happy to explain to me how to do it should it happen again. He inspected the flue and said it was very clean and hardly used. I figured that to be the case because in the 3-years I had the house, I had only used the fireplace 2x- both were the week before my appointment. The prior owners either didnt use it much or had it cleaned at some point before I purchased the home. The fact that he did not try to sell me on a sweep service that was not needed speaks volumes about his character. He gave me a number of pointers about starting a fire and maximizing its heat output, and told me things to be cognizant of to extend the life of the glass doors and system. When I asked, he gave me an approximate schedule of when to have the chimney swept depending on how often we use it. The cost for an inspection was very, very reasonable.
