The worst Chinese food in town. The sauce was congealed, the ratio of broccoli to shrimp was 10:1, the shrimp roll was fried breading with cabbage, and the fried rice was just white rice with soy sauce. I will never go back. read more

Had dinner here this evening. It's a fairly small Chinese place located in Warrenton, VA. There are six dine-in tables in the place. I ordered a pint of Hot and Sour soup and Kung Pao Chicken to eat in, and a 12 oz. can of Diet Coke. There was a fairly steady stream of folks coming in to place orders to go - or to pick up phone orders. My soup came up first and was brought out to me - then a bit later my Kung Pao. The Hot and Sour soup was about the most unremarkable version of this soup I can ever remember having. And when the Kung Pao was brought out - it was a fairly large amount of food - BUT - it was like some sort of generic spicy Chinese stir-fry - it's flavor little resembled any good Kung Pao. There were yellow-ish green cubes of a vegetable in the dish that I could not readily identify - I think it was a squash of some sort, and there were also baby corns in the dish. The food itself was not bad, or rotten, or anything like that. It just did not taste like anything resembling Kung Pao. Following up on a previous review; still a 2 star place. I've ordered lunch from here a few times and didn't really have a problem, but dinner last night... We ordered two combos (pork fried rice/egg roll included) and a sweet and sour chicken (white rice and a side included). First, they didn't include egg roles in either combo. After asking for no onions in the fried rice they proceeded to give me completely plain fried rice. No pork, veggies, or egg. I was called by DoorDash to be asked if I wanted soup or egg roll with the S&S chicken. I didn't get the egg drop soup from that either. The food itself was alright. So, I have given this restaurant a chance for the first time. I would not order from here again. First my shrimp toast was burnt. The menu had a seven in parentheses besides shrimp toast, and I received four. There are also no condiments included in the order or plasticware. It was delivered to me in an open cardboard box. I called to complain about the shrimp toast and the person on the phone offered no resolution whatsoever and just said he would pass the message along, then said bye. The rest of the food was okay. One of a few Chinese food places that makes Sichuan chicken without celery. ( to me that's the right kind). We prefer spicier but they may be afraid making a serving too spicy. If we don't ask to make it really spicy, it is not spicy at all. Also they make shrimp Lo mein with bigger size plump shrimp. I feel like I'm eating all carb but their fried rice is not bad at all. You may be dissatisfied if you are one of those who has been to China town and got their unlisted menu or has been to China and know their food and expected to have such food. As a Chinese food place that is typical in the US, and cater to their lunch, and dinner, I recommend this place highly for the value, and variety. The older guys cooking the food are not that friendly but it is reasonable to say it is typical and I can tell they are doing their best. They are maybe kinda shy using English. read more

Well, like everyone else said, it is definitely a carry-out place. Their food here is very inexpensive which is a bonus. Their lunch specials with entree, rice, egg roll, and a drink are under $5. We were looking for a new Chinese place since the fabulous China East in Haymarket has closed, so we tried Top's China today. Asked if they use MSG and they said no. Despite that, the food was over-the-top salty. The fried rice and spring rolls were the worst and the main dishes were also so salty that we had to ditch it all and make food at home. This is a little Chinese restaurant in a strip mall. The cooks and wait staff are friendly and the service was fast. This is a wonderful example of the typical Chinese restaurant that serves huge quantities of all the classics. A definite must for anyone looking for authentic cheap Chinese food. 2.5 stars. The food is fine, but I've certainly had better Chinese. Shrimp with mixed veggies -- at lunch, there's four shrimp. Wommp wommmp. I guess I should expect a limited number of shrimp for the low low price of five bucks. But four still seems a bit skimpy...and sometimes their little poo veins are still attached. Ewww. My coworkers enjoy the General Tso's chicken, but to my eyes there's like, two broccoli stalks. I'd want more veggies, but maybe that's just cuz I'm a freakish pescetarian. They also like the Sweet & Sour Chicken (not a veggie to be seen, however). The chicken meat IS all fairly good quality white-meat, and that's a bonus. I love fried rice, so when I ordered my lunch the first time and was given the option of white or fried rice, I chose fried. As a pescetarian, however, I was pretty disappointed (not to mention annoyed) when it came out and was pork fried rice. I thought it was an unusual choice, given that an accompanying fried rice is typically veggie. I would have appreciated the heads-up. So the price is ridiculously good at lunch, and the food is okay. I work nearby so every once in awhile my coworkers and I order out. I wouldn't pick it on the regular, tho. read more

I will never go back to this place again. Today I ordered 33.00 worth of food. One the person took the order was rude and two they always put people's food in a box. The box collapsed and my family dinner went falling out onto the ground. That was all the money I had so my family doesn't eat tonight. I called to tell them to stop putting people's food in boxes and get bags.Told them what happen and all I get was "Oh" yeah thanks for ruining my work clothes and my family meal. Come here for lunch probably once every 2 weeks and for the 5.25-7.00 for lunch combo you can not beat it. Not only is it a fair price the food is VERY good. Fresh vegtables decent portions of meat on the dishes. You can do combos as well at dinner time and it is a nice tradition for dad to take the kids here for dinner when mom is at school. Clean restaurant with no issues as far as sitdown service othere than it can get hectic at lunch time. While it is really geared for a carry out iperation the tables are always clean but sometimes you might have to wait for one. Dinner portions are decent and have had no issues with them at all. The owner not only cursed to the customer when they asked for delivery, she hung up on her multiple times, she said she was fine with losing her as a customer, and she blamed the customer for the owner being rude and unprofessional with the customer because the customer didn't tell the owner at the beginning of the call that she wanted delivery. You are the one providing a service! It's not her job to do it for you! In my professional opinion this business owner should be shut down and eventually will if she continues to treat customers this way. Honestly in this day and age her business will never survive anyways because they can't even offer delivery when there are literally companies like Uber and Doordash that will do the delivering for them. So FYI Tops China not only did you lose the woman as a customer but you lost me and every other person that heard you at the non profit business that the woman was getting food delivered to because they heard your rude and unprofessional treatment of this customer. Oh and so you know the woman you treated so badly almost lost her life in a terrible car accident a few weeks ago and that's why she needed food delivered because she had no way to pick it up so I hope you feel great about yourself Please share and please do not give your money to this woman or her business. There are plenty of small businesses and local restaurants that will treat a customer right and that are more deserving of customers hard earned money than Tops China!!! Great Chinese food at a great price. The place does seem dated but it is clean. The staff are friendly. I once ate inside and ordered chicken wings along with my meal, I was too full to eat them, so I got them to go. When I left, I completely forgot them. Yep, it's a take out chinese place that buys everything off of the same truck as every other chinese take out place. If you've had cheap take-out or delivery anywhere, ever, then you've been to Top's. It's not horrible, but basically everything is in "brown sauce" and tastes pretty much the same. Their best menu item is the Singapore Chow Mai Fun, and is the only reason we get our take-out there vs. the others in town. For some reason their curry powder isn't "gritty" like at some other places we've had, which is a killer. I wouldn't consider eating there (I mean dining in), unless I was passing through town by myself or something. It's pretty much set up as a take-out place with a couple of cheap tables and chairs sitting in front of the counter. They don't deliver, but it's quicker for me to run and get it from them vs. wait 45 minutes for delivery from someplace else. They used to not take credit cards - cash only. Absolutely by far, my FAVORITE for Chinese food - I don't usually trust Chinese food because of my many food allergies (including peanuts, tree nuts, and shellfish), but I trust them with my life here! For less than $10, I always get an order of the crab rangoon (imitation crab, so no allergy issues), garlic chicken, rice, and a soda. The young man at the counter is always SO kind and attentive. The store is always clean, and the food is always AMAZING! 10/10 would recommend to anyone! read more

I give 2 stars here as when I came in, I asked for a Vegetable Roll. The guy looked at me like he did not understand. So I said Spring Roll. Then he says shrimp? I just shook my head yes. Whatever. So he opens the fridge door, takes out 2 (shrimp rolls) (?) and then he speaks to his cooking staff, they look at me... and I feel like they are talking about me. I don't speak their language so, all I have to go on is my vibes and my vibes were saying they were talking about me. Whatever! I got my rolls and left. They tasted ok. Hunan Cafe is better. China Resturant is better and Yen Chen is better. Yes, I only ordered "shrimp" spring rolls but all the other places in town were nice and understood what I was aksing for when ordering. Tops China has the same owner as Mandarin. Saying that, there is no comparison. Tops is no where near as close in quality as Mandarin. However, if you are interested in filling up your stomach on a break for lunch, or just wanted a quick meal, this is the place. For $5 you get a big container of your choice (I usually get general tsos chicken), fried or white rice, and a water/soup/or eggroll. For $5 that is a lot of food. I have also picked up dinner from here once or twice. For some reason it tastes better at night. Maybe they don't rush as much because the lunch special is over with by then. They still give you a lot of food for the price. I recommend not eating in there and just picking it up. If you do that, you'll love it. Once again, I state that the quality of the food is not nearly as good as Mandarin but it is definitely worth giving a try. read more
