Unassuming from the outside, totally cute and delicious on the inside. Total is the best "mom n' pop" Japanese/Asian Restaurant I've been to in a long time. I have had their poke bowls a few times and they're delicious. The chefs make everything to order, so you will wait a few minutes for your food but you know it's worth it. Wandered in around 7:30 to grab some food to go. Decided on a seaweed salad ($4.50), spicy salmon roll ($6.59), and spicy tuna roll ($6.59). The seaweed salad tasted fresh and had a nice crunch to it. A nice portion for the price. The two rolls tasted very similar, so I wish I have mixed it up a bit, but the price was right. Really good! We were exploring the neighborhood. Decided to stop by based on 5-star yelp reviews, although skeptical given the low review count. Felt like a hole in the wall a bit. The radio had ads. A cashier station. Cheap wooden chopsticks. But then... the food was amazing. Fish was fresh, generous cuts on sushi rolls and sashimi, the food is made with love and care with the chef clearly taking this very seriously. What an addition to the neighborhood. I live around the corner so I come about once a week for lunch or an early dinner. The poke bowls are large and filled with lots of different toppings, and you get a fair amount of fish in it as well. The sushi is WAY better than I hoped for, and I've found it to be superior to nearly every other sushi spot in the neighborhood. It is fresh and the portions are large. The rock n' roll (eel, tobiko, avocado) is a real standout. Finally, the owners are really nice and always seem to have a smile for you. This dining experience while similar to a sit-down restaurant is comparable to eating in a shopping mall food court. You order and pay at the register. Someone will bring you your food but you're on your own from there. The ramen was tasty even though the noodles tasted and had the texture of those you probably relied on for sustenance during undergrad...the broth had depth and was well balanced. Also, the poke was fresh. However, it would have been nice if a little more attention was given to the cutting of the tuna. Some chunks were rather large (more than a bite) and cut haphazard while others were miniscule. read more

Good quality sushi at a reasonable price in this no-frills eatery. I recommend the chirashi--generous cuts of tuna , salmon, smoked salmon, yellowtail, shrimp and other fresh fish on top of rice. It comes with a side of miso soup. They also serve Korean food. Lack of ventilation is the only downside, especially since the kitchen is in the middle of the eating area. Last time I had the #14 ramen bowl, this time I had the Hawaiian tuna poke bowl and miso soup. The ramen was rich and tasty, the poke was great, with the tuna generous and a nice touch of seaweed. Miso very satisfying. The place is small, the cashier all the way in the back, and can be tight if there's a lunch crowd.
