Hi. My name is Keri. I was a Torchy's Virgin. Until a coupla hours ago, when bff and I were returning from our 4 mile walkies around the lake and he mentioned there was a new Torchy's blocks from his apartment. I whipped out my trusty Yelp iPhone app and there was none listed, so I argued with him. But he said they must have just opened today and right then, all that sweaty hard work literally flew out the window as I did a u-turn on Burnet. Perfect! We get to de-flower the new Torchy's and lose our virginities at the same time (and it's ironic that my gay bff lost his with a tuna taco....just sayin.). I knew from trusted Yelpers that I had to get the queso and a Democrat, but I went my own way and got the queso and the pork carnitas taco. Bff got the Mr. Pink and the Democrat at my urging (see how smart I am??). We both loved our tacos, with our fave being, yep, the Democrat. That tasty, salty beef can't be beat! But the real winner was indeed the green chile queso. I am sure he is licking the styrofoam container now I've left his place. The folks at this place were real friendly altho they are still learning the ropes in some cases. The metal poles inside were covered in Torchy's magnets that they insisted we take, please. I'm sure I can find plenty of places for a little devil magnet :) I'm so glad this newest Torchy's is in my bff's hood! It'll probably never be as good as the tangy, creamy, oniony, cheesy first time, but I'm willing to go back and experiment with other variations. A must visit! Highly recommended by many locals. Out of all the food places that I ate at during my visit in Austin, Torchy's Tacos was my favorite!! Breakfast tacos is known and popular to eat in Texas. Just how they're known for bbq food. Most of the tacos range from $2.50-$4.75 (Similar size with Chipotle's tacos). My party and I mainly ordered off of the Breakfast Tacos menu. This can be found on the left side of the menu. You can also build your own tacos for $2.25. Served with your choice of fresh tortilla and choice of sauce. The best corn tortilla ever!!! I didn't go to UT and I'm not from Austin, so I don't have this nostalgic love for Torchy's, but it's pretty darn good! I was in town and wanted to pick up a quick dinner for myself and some friends who were home with their kids. This Torchy's has a wonderful "to go" parking spot in the front which I took advantage of. The chicken fajita tacos are really good, flavorful, and packed full of meat. I also ordered the deep fried chocolate chip cookies, which were ok, but not my favorites ever. My friend's kids loved them. The wait didn't take long and we all enjoyed our food at my friend's house. In Houston, Torchy's is still like a shrine to so many, but I prefer the originals in Austin that are just places to get some good food. I'll definitely be back to this location because of its good food and convenient location. read more

Finally! A Torchy's near where I live! I don't get all the mixed reviews, I seem to get great food whether I'm at this one or the location on S. 1st. I took a friend from Houston here recently. We had the queso and he said, "I don't know what is in this, but it's incredibly delicious!" I had the baja shrimp taco, which was fantastic. I also had the trailer park taco, which was full of fried chicken and other yummmies. The sauces they serve with the tacos are divine. Yes, all my food was fried, but sometimes you have to up the fat quotient and enjoy life. Two tacos is really one too many, esp if you are having the queso, but was a pig out day. Like all Torchys locations, great food. The reason I'm giving Torchy's on burnet rd a 2 star rating is because of the following. I tend to be a regular at that location. Last time I went I finished eating and I always throw my food away, keep the basket of course and one employee(server) is going near by and I hand him the baskets, he tells me "PUT THEM OVER THERE". Really? I'm handing you the baskets ON YOUR HAND! You should thank me I did not leave a mess at the table like many customers do. And you still tell me that? That's absolutely not acceptable. Torchy's was touted to me as the end-all-be-all of nouveau fusion tacos. That's probably too much hype to live up to. I stopped by tonight and had the Trailer Park (fried chicken, pico de gallo and "queso" aka velveeta) and the Independent (portobello mushroom strips with refried black beans and corn. I must say, fried chicken in a taco is genius. It was everything I thought it would be and more. However, the Independent was as disappointing as the Trailer Park was smart. The portobello mushrooms were breaded with a thick, clumsy coating that masked the meaty, umami flavor for which portobellos are known. That "taco" would be better served by cooking its portobellos au natural with a bit of salt to bring out the flavors instead of deep frying them in some TGIFriday's bread crumb mix. From the limited sample size I've experienced, I can only say that the tacos here are only okay. My taste buds are screaming for a couple of dollar tacos al pastor or carne asada street tacos. read more

Took some co-workers to Torchy's for the first time today. They were incredibly impressed, of course! I got the Doublewide taco- February's taco of the month. It had a huge chunk of chicken fried steak smothered in queso and sprinkled with bacon and pico de gallo. It was really, really tasty, although that guilt factor was extreme with the bacon and queso. The guys got the Democrat, beef fajita, jerk chicken, and a few others I can't remember. The food is consistently great at any location. The staff here was friendly and nice and I feel like it had a little more seating than some of the others. The patio was nice, but a little loud with all of the traffic on Burnet. And you're welcome, Torchy's. I just introduced 3 more fans to ya. read more

Took my dad here the other day because he complained he's never been to a Torchy's before even though I've lived in Austin for over 3 years now. I normally go to the Torchy's off of Guadalupe so this location was much smaller than I expected. My dad was given the wrong order but our server was quick to offer to fix it. Even though my dad decided to keep the wrong taco he still enjoyed it. As for me, I always get the chicken fajita tacos with flour tortillas. SO GOOD but really messy. This location has a tiny parking lot but also seems less busy than the location on Guad. Very good experience overall! read more

Torchy's makes a good taco! If you come here for breakfast there is no taco that you can go wrong with. If you come here for lunch or dinner, be ready for a new type of taco experience. There are some killer combos here, but my #1 favorite here is the Trailer Park Trashy. Its corn tortilla, fried chicken, letuce, pico, cheese, and queso. See I have a magic power at home, at least according to my wife, to make a taco out of anything. Heck last night I made some green bean tacos, because I thought the green beans needed a little something extra. But back to this place. I would say after your first few visits, go take a look at the secret menu online. There is 1 on there that is better than the rest. Its the biggest, meanest, most nasty looking beast of a taco, you would swear it should have its own category. It took me forever, but I finally became a Torchy's fan and it's thanks to this location. For a long time, I wasn't a fan, primarily because I'm a fan of fairly uncomplicated tacos and Tex-Mex. However, Tuesday night, i needed a late snack and Torchy's was nearby. So, I decided it was worth another try. Their queso may be among my favorites now. Yes, it comes with a lot of "stuff" on top and it's a huge portion, especially when it's just two people. Solution? Order a half order of plain queso. Yep, it's pretty close to perfect. It's a simple chile con queso with just the right heat from green chiles. Absolute perfection. And a plainer taco? No problem. I got a beef fajita taco with just cheese. And let me tell you, ordering something plain at Torchy's actually allows you to taste the quality of what they do. The beef, the cheese, and the tortilla were of a quality that fast food can't do and that most better restaurants would have a hard time approximating. Ok, so now we know the food is good. But here's the thing. Torchy's cares about service. We arrived about 40 minutes before closing. They're still filling the drink machine with ice. The place is spotlessly clean. The staff is friendly and happy to customize our orders. And there was a manager walking around checking on everyone's experience and offering chip refills. Most upper end restaurants could learn something from this Torchy's location. read more

The old scrappy "Wok-n-Roll" has finally assumed room temperature and location reborn as a bright and shiny new Torchy's Tacos. Thank you Aqua Buddha! I enjoyed a fast, fresh and lite lunch at Torchy's. Good bye to the greasy pricey Tex-Mex at 26 Doors. Torchy's offers ample parking, a spacious patio, and open atmosphere. I tried the Mr. Pink, a big wedge of Ahi tuna with lime and chipotle sauce and a Baja Shrimp, crispy battered with cabbage slaw and cilantro both in a double corn tortilla. When I found out I'd be in Austin during SXSW, I knew my first stop would be for tacos, and not for music. My friend suggested we mosey over to Torchy's for lunch, and I'm so glad I took her suggestion. I ordered the Independent and the Fried Avocado tacos. Both were delicious, and SO filling. The fried portobello made me not hate mushrooms, and the fried avocado was simply sinful. The flour tortillas were a great way to bind the other delicious and super fresh ingredients. We each ordered diet locally-sourced sodas, and those were great, too. For just under $15, I feel like I got my money's worth and more. read more

Loved this place. Parking is very limited. If parking in nearby streets, make sure to lock your doors. The queso and chips were fantastic. Not your normal gelatinous blob of velveta. Spicy a bit with a nice flavor to it. This was awesome!! Had the Baha Shrimo grilled taco. With a squeeze of lime it was sublime. Also had a Trailer Park taco, trashy style. About a year ago, the wife and I moved to the neighborhood and have picked up breakfast tacos to go on several occasions. We feel very ambivalent about this place. On one hand, the tacos are pretty good. My wife likes the fried avocado and ranch hand tacos on corn. My two favorites are egg, bacon, & cheese and egg, chorizo with cheese. They also have a white variety of sauces - all of which are good. Our issue is with the service. At times it is spot on. I make the order online and by the time I drive to the restaurant it's already to be picked up. On other occasions the kitchen doesn't get the right sauce in the bag. The last time though was the worst. The knot head who answered the phone was rather rude to my wife after keeping her on hold for extended amount of time. When I went to pick up the tacos, they weren't ready and the cashier (I have a feeling it was the same guy who answered the phone with my wife placed the order) seemed to have a bit of an attitude. With both taco shack and taco deli in the neighborhood, those two establishments will be getting more of our business in the future. Frankly, my wife likes taco deli better anyway. read more

This is my favorite Torchy's Tacos in Austin. I've never been to the original food truck but since I live in Hyde Park this is super convenient. Atmosphere: I think this looks like every other Torchy's in Austin. It's smaller than the one Houston location but the decor and setup is very similar. As a bonus unlike the one on Guadalupe this one isn't packed with undergrads so you can normally place your order in under 2 minutes. I've been during peak dinner hours and never had a bad wait so definite plus. Service: The service here is super fast and very friendly. One night my friend and I dropped by and since I ended up not ordering food they gave me my soft drink on the house! I also once awkwardly and clumsily dropped my tacos into my lap and they replaced them for free even though it was ENTIRELY my fault. Food: The food here is like any other Torchy's. As usual my 3 favorites are the: Green Chile Queso (Probably my favorite item period on the menu and yes, I would knife someone over this), the Crossroads Taco, and my Modified Ranch-hand taco. For the Ranch Hand I ask them to swap out the fajita beef for brisket and skip the cheese. I also replace the diablo sauce with chipotle sauce. I've tried most of the tacos on their menu and I can honestly say most are really good. I've only had one less fortunate experience with a limited run taco known as the Ace of Spades. The taco wasn't necessarily bad per se, but it was super messy and there was a lot going on, plus it was very dairy heavy which I don't like. Otherwise I'd just recommend ordering whatever sounds good to you! Overall, if you want to skip the crazy line of college students and still get your Torchy's stop by this location! read more

Our Airbnb hosts recommended Torchy's and they so didn't steer us wrong. I got the Fried Avocado Taco (minus the fried since I have celiacs and need GF). It was basic but so damn good. I also tried the queso and the street corn. The queso was super tasty. My only gripe was that the chips were cheap nasty grocery store kind and most of them were broken. The street corn was good but a little gut bomby compared to what I'm used to (lots and lots of cheese). My husband had some breakfast tacos that left him in a drooling Homer Simpsonlike food coma. I also got to try Maine Root sodas. I had never seen them before but have since seen them on fountains all over Austin. The Vanilla Creme is super good and not cloyingly sweet. I am going to have to see if I can find them back in Seattle. As a side note, the corn tortillas were super fresh and fragrant. Anyway, trust me this stuff is good. Go eat there. read more

Their breakfast tacos are so amazing and so filling. I can't stress enough that you must stop here if you're in the Austin area. Their tacos all made to perfection. This is a review from last summer that I neglected to post but in reading it...I thought...it's worth it, since I would with out a doubt go back. This place has a something for every taco lover. They even have a gluten free menu right up front when you order, love that and thank you so much! The prices can't be beat. The jerk chicken was delish but I'd pass on the Barcelona beef. A thick slab of shredded beef stuck together by pure fat wasn't helpful to my petite waist or my palette. I can just taste the Democrat now with the jalapeno sausage cheesy goodness - perfect after a night of overindulgence. The variation of this with the fried egg on top is EVEN BETTER (if that's remotely possible). Of course I would be remiss if I did not mention the only thing that could drag me away from Mighty Cone - your Fried Avocado taco. Sweet lord that poblano sauce on top came right down from the heavens. Yeah I was pretty impressed. The beer battered avocado taco is pretty great. I like that it's basically like a fish taco but with avocado instead, all down to the white sauce. My Democrat taco was real moist and despite looking stringy, was anything but that. read more

Similar to my review of the south Austin location on W. Cannon Dr. This location is just as good when it comes to food. It does get packed and there's not a lot of space if you have a group. There is outdoor seating. As with any Torchy's if you're doing take out it's always best to call ahead and save yourself the wait time which can be around 15 minutes at times. This is locations is just tight as far as parking and seating space goes not one of my favorite Torchy's because of this. The food is great, you get what you pay for premium tacos, that's not overly packed. Translation the tacos or expensive but unique but you need a 2 or 3 to get fill which will run $10-$15 just on the tacos. However definitive try a couple of my favorites the Trailer Park and the Crossroads. There's also a Torchy's secret menu if you ask. read more

I always enjoy Torchy's Tacos. I had the fried shrimp taco and a bean and avocado taco. They don't have any tomatoes though, only pico. And they only have one size large salad, instead of having a side salad. I think a side salad could be a revenue generator, so consider offering it. Dear Torchy's, do you even read the negative reviews here? They're all on par with my experiences. You are literally .4 miles away from my house so it's so easy to just order online and ride down on my bike for a to-go pickup. Yet every time I order online something is wrong. I always request the pickup time well in advance, at least an hour, to give plenty of time to put together. But even if I'm on time the order never is and I have to wait about 15 minutes. The order is usually wrong, too, for some small reason, be it the wrong tortilla or just the wrong taco in general. At least today's order was correct, but you forgot to pack the chips and queso in the bag, so you guys get an extra $6.50 tip! Come on guys, this isn't rocket science. Solid gourmet taco place. I have tried different taco flavors and they never dissapoint. This time i had the new lobster maine squeeze taco and its huge and expensive running you 12 dollars a pop. Delicious tho but im not sure if its worth 12 dollars. I also had the ranch hand which is a breakfast taco and the democrat which has barbacoa in it. Do you train your employees to be rude? Sure, the food is really tasty but your customer service sticks. My to-go orders shouldn't feel like a nuisance. On multiple occasions my order has been thrown down in a rude manner and there isn't a smile or greeting. It feels like the cashier is having a terrible hang over when they answer the phone or see me. El Tacorrido just opened up down the street take some notes. I really dig torchy's ... obviously with 5 stars ... i like this location and it is the main one we go to ... it used to be "Wok 'n Roll" ... i don't like the music is a bit loud and it is hard to find a spot where it can avoided but not a big issue ... management is nice and the last time we went it was at night and their electricity had gone out ... an upset customer was about to drive a away and said "they are closed" and the manager happened to be coming outside and said "we should be back open in a few minutes" there was an emergency electrician outside ... anyway ... they gave us free drinks while we waited and we still got our food... I always get the taco of the month and BTW they are the largest non-lettuce-on-the-bottom guacamole that I have ever seen ... get the CHIPS and GUAC!!! read more
