I'm probably the only one who thinks this is a "just average" Tex-Mex joint. But the night we went (and I have never gone back) they got my daughter's drink order wrong, and then believe it or not they got her food order wrong as well. Waiter never came back, so both times she had to carry the incorrect orders back up the the counter to get them replaced. No apology, no nothing. Her "corrected" order finally arrived about the time I had finished eating. Tex-Mex isn't a delicacy to begin with, but this was just average. Too many local really good places around here to waste time on this level of service which, while not expensive, it priced higher than most. I had heard so much praise about Torchy's I had to try it. I try so hard to like Torchy's I really do. The service is fine, drinks are good, queso is AMAZING, but the tacos are just blah. I think they try too hard with too many flavors in one taco. I'm am totally up for contrasting flavors and textures in food. I think that's the key to a great meal! Placed the order for a 7:15 pick up so my son could pick it up on his way home from work. He pulled into the curbside space at 7:10 and text the number as requested. After 10 minutes of waiting with no response I reminded him to use the order link to let them know he was there. He received a response that said the feature was disabled. He then decided to go into the store only to be told they'd run out of queso and it would be about 10 more minutes. When he finally received the order, 25 minutes, past the pick up time they offered absolutely no apology or any kind of compensation!! Shocking customer service. I'm talking brunchtails, margaritas, Moscow Mules, Tito's bloody Marys, The Peg Leg (frozen margarita with a Coronita), habanero infused tequilas and you can find Dulce Vida tequila on the shelf. They pour 5 Texas beers and Dos XXs on tap along with bottles and cans. They also serve 6 wines. The bar extends onto the patio offering both indoor and outdoor seating. This location is in a newly built small shopping center and opened a week ago yesterday. If you are not familiar with Torchy's, they are an Austin based company that started as a single food trailer and now has expanded to 9 locations in the Austin area and can be found in 5 other Texas cities. They serve delicious and creatively themed tacos like "The Trailer Park" which can be ordered "trashy". My favorite is their green chili pork taco with moist shredded pork, topped with queso fresco, fresh cilantro, lime served on corn tortillas and their tomatillo sauce. My recent visit to this location I opted for the "Mr. Pink" which is seared ahi tuna, cabbage, cilantro, queso fresco, a lime wedge and chipotle sauce. Whew!! This taco packs some heat and lots of flavor. I loved the Mr Pink however the fish was more blackened than seared. There are three methods of ordering: 1. Wait in line, place your order, get a number and wait for your food 2. Find a stool at the bar for a full service dining experience 3. Order on line and your food will be ready and waiting for pick up The only downfall at this location is serious lack of parking. Cedar Park needs more locally grown restaurants that serve good food. The tacos are good, not quite as good as Tacodeli. Nonetheless, Torchy's is the best place to get fancy tacos in Cedar Park and I'm glad to have them nearby. The restaurant looks great and has a great bar. The parking is limited and the outdoor patio is a fenced off area of the parking lot overlooking the congested FM1431. The line is long, but moves quickly. The food runners when I came are young, inexperienced and have sour look on their faces. Hopefully, as the restaurant establishes itself, this will change. The restaurant has the bustling, hip vibe but is not represented in their employees. If you like spicy, try their salsa habanero! read more

Here is a summary of my rating: Food 5 Price 4 Service 4 Layout 1 Flies -2 When this placed opened, I knew from other reviews of other locations I had to try them. So BF and I go on a Friday night early. Obviously not early enough as there was a line inside already. Once you walk in the line starts to the left, then it rounded the corner and continued between a set of tables and the bar. Within a few minutes we were told we couldn't stand in the aisle, so the line shifted to go out the door. Except they held the door open for flies to swarm in and the heat from outside sucked the AC out. NOTE TO TORCHY!!! If you know from previous experience you will attract a line, HAVE MORE ROOM IN THE LINE AREA. There was room for Max a dozen people. We finally made it to the front of the line in 30 minutes. To my surprise it wasn't to get a table, it was to order your food. Good thing we had time in line to figure out what we wanted. Next stop was leaning against the wall in the table area to wait for a table. It was everyone for themselves when a table opened up. We snagged one close to the door to the outside patio, Big Mistake. That door was opened and closed so many times, it added to the fly problem. We ordered one each of Baja Shrimp, the Democrat, Beef Fajita, and Chicken Fajita. BF had a beer and I had a cocktail (Can't remember what I ordered.) It was nice they had a full bar. Unfortunately my drink for $7.50 was half the size of drinks I get at other place. It also didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it, oh well. We waited maybe 15 minutes and our food was delivered. I saw in many previous reviews that their tacos are small so order two. Sorry, that is not the case. These tacos were decent size and one was more than enough. I was able to taste The democrat and Beef Fajita, both manage to pack a lot of good flavors. The Hot sauce for the Fajita tacos absolutely had a kick. My favorite was the Baja Shrimp. As soon as I finished it, I thought about how soon I would be back to order another one. During the entire dining in experience, we kept swatting flies away. There I was, picking up my phoned-in order. In strolls a pristine example of "asshole older man." He lingers in the bar area for a few moments near me, then marches directly to the cashier. Fortune favors the bold, right? Tell that to the 15 or so mild-mannered teenagers and other patrons patiently waiting in the actual line. I say to my cashier, "Hey, that guy right there (point him out) is skipping the entire line." She, being an apparently young, mild-mannered, poorly-trained, or apathetic employee, chose to do nothing, even though she was standing a few feet away from the main cashier. Another minute passes, and the cashier is closing her transaction and handing out drink cups. Line-jumper is still in place, lingering like a festering pustule on the face of civilized society. Now I am steaming. As I'm signing the credit card slip for my order, I say to the extremely proactive employee in front of me, "Wow, I can't believe he is going to get away with it. There are 15 people in line, and he just walked right up there." Her response, "Do you need anything else with your order?" As I turn to leave, I feel my blood pressure rising. I glance back one last time at the line-jumper, and I hear the cashier say to the lovely older man, "What would you like today?" I stewed in the car all the way home. I wish I had followed my gut and addressed this customer myself. I made the mistake of expecting the staff at Torchy's to do the right thing. One star for letting an asshole win. Torchy's yer killing me. Seriously. I work in the same parking lot as this location so it's crazy easy to have Torchy's every day. With all the variety, I almost do just that. The front of house people are always really great but something is wrong in the kitchen. Something is *very* wrong. Last week I ordered 3 times...and all three orders were wrong. What I usually get is pretty simple: Trailer Park, no pico. That's it..nothing fancy, no tortilla swaps, no additions. Just NO PICO. One of my orders was "trashy", meaning covered in queso that I didn't order. One of my orders had pico, and the third order was just a plain piece of chicken with cheese, no lettuce, no green chili. When I called and talked to Slade he was very nice and offered to comp my food. The next day I ordered 3 tacos online and headed over to pick them up before I headed home. Slade wasn't there but another manager gave me the order and we checked them together. Imagine how he felt when the first two tacos he pulled out WERE WRONG! Wow. Seriously...it's taking off pico..not rocket science. Today I head over and pick up two tacos. I was really happy to see the first one was correct but the second one, WRONG AGAIN! For some reason I was given the taco on corn when the default is flour and I didn't change anything. I really love the tacos. I love the front people, they're great...but I do not love the fact that the kitchen staff doesn't care enough to read the tickets. I was a loyal patron until...I found a piece of metal in one of my tacos. How seriously does this restaurant take food safety and customer satisfaction? Read my story and be the judge. One afternoon I picked up tacos for lunch as I was prone to doing once a week. I got back to my office and started eating the second one when I bit down and heard a metallic noise in my ear. Upon inspecting my taco I found a small roundish piece of metal buried in the taco. After work that day I went to the restaurant and reported what happened. I filled out paperwork with the manager on duty. More than a week went by without any correspondence from Torchy's. I was then contacted by their insurance company who took my statement. A couple days later I was contacted again by the very insurance company, to whom Torchy's pays monthly premiums, that informed me the restaurant was not at fault because the tacos were eaten off premises. I then spoke with the restaurant GM who told me that he had done "everything he was supposed to" by passing the report to the insurance company, and never apologized for the incident during the conversation. The last contact with anyone representing the restaurant was their general counsel who reiterated the insurance company's position that they were not responsible for food eaten off the premises. Was my story likely a random fluke that doesn't necessarily represent regular occurrences at the restaurant? Absolutely. Do the "the customers, employees, friends and fans that share in the Taco Dream" deserve to know how Torchy's handles such random mistakes by the restaurant? Absolutely. read more

I've been here quite a few times since my first review. Unfortunately, there is usually an issue with every visit. One time, I ordered a drink that I didn't get until we were nearly done eating, even though I asked the server and the bartender about it. Today, we were charged for an item we didn't order and it wasn't caught until after payment was made. The management did quickly remedy the situation (we hadn't even left the ordering counter when it was caught) but the person taking our order insisted that we ordered it, when we absolutely didn't. That was insulting. The food comes out, with the additional item. We refused the extra item...explaining again about the error. All of our food went back to the kitchen. She wouldn't leave the correct portion. 4 tables around us that arrived after us got their food items, 2 of them was the same taco I ordered that was taken back to the kitchen, before we got our two tacos. That was the start of my wife's and mine trip to Austin TX. We went to 6th street (the iron Cactus) for dinner and within 15 minutes, we were told we HAVE to go to this place called "Torchy's." Wow .. we were pretty excited about that. So we drive over the next day since it was lunch time, and pulled in the parking lot of a strip mall. The place looked okay, but were wondering why all the hub-bub about it. We went in and ordered the queso and chips (which the server at the other place raved about) and a couple tacos ( the trailer park (fried chicken, trashy style), the crossroads (beef brisket) and a couple of drinks. Okay, let me take a breath and I'll tell you about it. OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG .... this was the most amazing food in the history of the world!!!! First of all, the queso was so good, I just wanted to pour it all over myself and roll around on the floor, it was so amazing! Then I took a bite of that brisket taco. The brisket was so perfectly cooked, and had tis awesome smokey flavor that I've never had before .... now this place is a chain, but man, the food tastes like it's one of those cool little family owned places that you find by the side of the road. In fact ALL the tacos were amazing. So good in fact, we went back THREE times during our week vacation! (We would have went more, but we didn't want to seem obsessive.) Let's just say this: there are very few establishments that get me excited enough to want to buy a t-shirt and hot sauce after just one visit, but this place really impacted me so much, that I'll probably have a monthly order from them. Why did I wait so long to try this place?! The democrat taco blew my socks clean off my feet and across the room. That shredded beef is outrageous! Cilantro, onion, queso fresco, avocado, and a squirt of fresh lime wedge tied all my favorite things about Mexican food together. The pork taco I have to admit I wasn't nearly as crazy about. There is no comparison to the shredded beef; it takes center stage. My husband got both the beef and chicken fajita tacos and the crossroads taco. Of all things he said he liked the chicken fajita one the best which I thought was boring but I will take his word for it. Being the lover of ahi tuna that he is I'm really surprised he didn't try that one. We also got chips and the green salsa because the cashier told me that was the spicer one. It had a bitter edge that made me not want to keep going back for seconds the way other salsas do. Next time I will try the queso or their regular salsa. The price is a little steep for an a la carte taco joint but the flavors and quality of ingredients make up for it in my opinion. Bonus? I love the off the wall fountain beverages they have. The typical 3 star torchys breakfast the eggs are warm but bland, the cheese has melted and I didn't have to wait 30 minutes for my one taco. The problem is their 3 star days are few and far between. Most days my eggs are barely warm and the cheese is still cold and shredded. Today they hit a new low. I waited 20 minutes for cold, burnt eggs. Sitting in Torchy's writing this review while the experience is still as fresh as the avocado that earlier graced my babacoa (The Democrat). Really like this place. The tacos are always awesome (based on experiences at Spicewood), and the wait staff in CP is friendly, quick, and smiley. The Baja Shrimp taco was AMAZING, with just the right amount of crunch and snap. A little different than the Austin location, as it lacks that intangible, but the food is on par. And, as Susan H. already mentioned, the register/beverage area is a bit cramped and in a very strange spot. 2:00 in the afternoon and there is a healthy sized crowd. My family and I went to have a late lunch at store 21. I am 37 weeks pregnant (can barely walk) and 3 young daughters. I ordered as usual and even asked the cashier to repeat the order. She said the total was $32 something and when I got to the table I noticed we never received our order of guacamole and chips. I waddle up to the register and ask about this and the lady said she'll check on that. 10 min later she didn't have the courtesy to give me a status so again I waddle back to the register and ask about the guacamole and chips to which she then proceeded to tell me we didn't charge u so can't give it to you. I sat back down and the manager Chuck where he also proceeded to say "well cashier didn't charge u so if u want u can go back (for the 100th) time and pay for that order cause we can't just give it to you" my family and I do not appreciate going to a restaurant to argue over a single item, we go to sit, eat and relax. I really hate to write reviews, but this has now happened to us twice. The first time, my daughter ordered the egg, cheese and potato taco. She got 1/2 way through it and found bacon in it. We don't eat meat. They replaced her taco. The second time, I ordered an Independence taco to-go. I got home and made it 1/2 way through the taco to bite into a strip of beef. I called and in and the manager refunded me for 2 of our tacos. While I appreciate the refund, we are now afraid to eat here. I parked in the grass next to the building where there were many others parked. We did each find parking. We arrived around 1pm and waited in a long line that wound around. I don't know how long it took as I was enjoying a lively conversation with friends. We were told by another friend that we could enact the secret menu goodness of turning ones taco of choice into a salad for the asking at the order register. We did so and requested two tacos each sans tortillas on salad greens. We enjoyed chatting while we waited for our food and we were thrilled with the tasty goodness of our lunches. There it is. My wife and I decided to meet there for a early dinner. There was quite a few people outside as well as in the dining room. We had never been there so I did not know what to do... Do we seat ourselves? I asked the bartender and he said around the counter is a register and menu board. You will find no ordinary taco's here. They are all gourmet with cool, fun names to match. I ordered chips and guacamole, Green chile pork, Fried avocado, The Democrat, and a Trailer park all on flour tortillas. I chose to get water and my wife picked iced tea. They give you your drink cups for the self serve station, as well as a number card to put at your table. We decided to move from our first seat choice due to the fly congregation probably from the open door to the patio. Our guac and chips came out super fast. It was very tasty. There was no need to add extra salt. The guac was all avocado's as well, just how I like! I do not like chopped onions and tomatoes or whatever else other places try to bulk it up with. Next came our taco's, at speeds exceeding light as well. I chose the Green Chile pork which came topped with cilantro and queso fresco. It was not on the menu but it was served with tomatilo sauce. The pork was very moist almost a little to watery. The tomatillo sauce added much needed flavor. My other taco choice was the Trailer park which I ordered as some keep their front lawns "Trashy". Its fried chicken topped with pico de gallo, cheese, and green chiles. Because I ordered it "Trashy" they leave off the lettuce and add queso. It comes with a delicious poblano sauce, that is rich and creamy with a little kick. I liked this taco very much. For sure a re order upon revisiting. Wifey decided upon the Fried avocado. This came served on (vegetarian) refried beans, pico, lettuce and cheese. This was also served with the poblano sauce. The avocado got lost in too much beans. Her other choice was the Democrat. This was a barbacoa taco topped with avocado, onions, cilantro, and queso fresco. This came with the tomatillo sauce. The barbacoa was very good. it was moist and buttery. After coming her 2-3 times a week and each time spending over $40 every visit. I'm highly disappointed on my service, food , and how it was taken care of by A manger named Stevie. I came in on Monday night no crowd only 2 other tables occupied when my husband and I arrived. Which we thought was great seeing as when we were here the night before which was Sunday it was super packed. We placed our order had the employee repeat the order three times as he seemed new. He repeated it and it was correct. But that wasn't the case when all of our tacos came out completely wrong, and they didn't give me my queso or my guacamole. We told the server these were all wrong. He said he would send it back took the food back then 5 minutes later came back and said he will get a manger. He went to a storage closet where the manager Stevie was eating in. She walks out with a mouth full of food and try's to ask what's going on. I explained my whole order was incorrect she looked over the receipt and looked at the food the employees was still holding and apologized. Said she would go have it remade I told her that's what her employee said and it's been 10 minutes now. Hair in my son's Democrat taco! Need I say more? Yes. The cashier and MOD didn't seem at all concerned or apologetic. Too bad. They did refund the money for just the one taco though. The hair incident aside, their ingredients don't seem to be fresh in the least. The beef fajita seemed was lukewarm, rubbery, and tasted full of preservatives as if sourced from the frozen aisle. The tortillas and cheese also felt as if they just grabbed Mission tortillas and Hill Country Fare cheese from HEB, respectively. This has turned into our go-to when we're running late and don't feel like cooking. My fav drink is the Torchy's Tini and Jenna likes the off menu Torchy's Sunset. They need to put that on the menu - Spencer's concoction. A trashy trailer park taco for me and a fajita taco for the SIGOT is out regular fare. That and some queso of course! Always pretty quick and consistent meals. Not bad money either! Only 1 negative. Occasionally during busy hours/weekends they don't seem to have enough seating or specifically inside seating. I don't have kids so I don't mind eating outside in 90+ degree heat for 15 minutes but a lot of parents have a hard time when they're children are too hot and larger families usually stay longer. To Torchys - please keep making amazing food and maybe try to find a way to get the patio cooler To Customers - Go! Eat! Picture this: Dinner time on Wednesday. 7 pm. Stand in line with 2 kids for 20 minutes because they chose to go to Torchys. One person working a register while also seeming to be taking phone orders. Line moves slow. Finally get to counter. Kids are starving. The one person at the register informs me that tacos are running on a 25 minute schedule. Really? You inform me of this AFTER I've already been in line for minutes? Nope. Not okay. I love Torchys but seem to have bad experiences at this location. Won't be coming back. read more

Traditional or Tex-Mex? No. Delicious? Yes. These are really the best tasting tacos I've had, and it's nice to find something labeled 'hot' that actually has a bit of bite to it. (Love the Diablo sauce.) I really recommend the Brushfire. You can sit inside or outside. The bar extends out onto the patio, which is equipped with fans and misters. It was more comfortable than I expected given that the temperatures was well into the 90s. The only problem is popularity, so even though the line moves fairly quickly, you may still have a wait. This will probably ease once the novelty wears off. Right now Torchy's is the only storefront open in the strip center where it's located...but all the parking was full and people were parking on the grass. One of my favorite places in the local Austin area. Every time I come here the food is out of this world good. I get the hill billy trashy. Yum. Plus their queso is by far the best queso I've ever had. You can ask for more chips too!!! They've told me the wait is 25 minutes but you get your chips and queso within minutes. After chatting and munching it's out before you know it. Service has been great for me. They bring you your food and.... really you're left alone, that's the way Torchys works. If you need anything you can flag someone down. If you're visiting Austin you MUST eat here. read more
