Too slow of service. Super busy place & good food but they need more workers & the workers they have should be more attentive

Extremely disappointed that main root soda is no longer on tap. Who doesn't love Mexican cane sugar cola on tap? I've been a huge torchys supporter for a decade and I was excited that a location was here when I moved to Waco from Austin. We are visiting Waco and happened upon Torchy's Tacos. A friend had told us if we ever found one we had to go. We ordered 5 tacos to try. There was such a crazy variety and unique choices in the different tacos. We loved that each taco came with a specific sauce. The tortillas were soft, didn't rip and tasted great. Here's what we ordered and how we liked them: The Trailer Park "trashy"- by far THE BEST taco of all 5! This was SO good! The fried chicken was moist and the sauce was delish! The Republican - this wasn't our favorite. It was just good but was weird eating a hotdog in a tortilla. The green Chili pork - this was a favorite. Yummy flavors and the green chili salsa had a kick. The Shrimp taco - fried shrimp was super good. The sauce was tangy. The Tipsy Chick - the sauce of this one had bacon pieces in it. Another reliable Torchy's location. Pretty much the same as the others. Minus one star for long wait and being a little under-staffed for a Sunday post-church crowd. We've been to this location multiple times before and the food is always good. Dirty Sanchez is still our go-to and The Matador is my favorite off-menu taco when I'm really hungry. Had just about the worst customer service experience at this Torchy's Tacos locations. When a restaurant makes a mistake then the staff there needs to go above and beyond to fix the problem not cast aside the issue on the customer. My wife ordered 2 tacos and only received one when we were sitting at our table. We said she ordered 2. The guy who brought the food said okay, walked away. Came back 4 minutes later showing us a receipt that says she ordered 1. So I said okay that's fine we still want 2. He said we need to pay for it. At this point it's just getting annoying, I have no problem paying for the food but just fix the problem and get our tacos started. I said okay, okay we'll pay for it. Then sat there expecting him to go get the taco. Instead he said, no if you want another you need to get back in line and order and pay for another. In no world is this customer service that someone should expect. Go above and beyond. Especially when the customer has two babies with them. It's not hard to just go get another taco since you miss-heard the customers first order. When I led the operations for a local Chick-fil-A this would not have been acceptable. Not only that but they kicked out essential medical workers for not having a mask on. Provide them a mask if you need a mask for goodness sakes. Such a desperately sad location. read more

The service was SLOW. It took about 20-25 mins just to get one person's tacos, and even then, they messed up the order (but corrected it). I saw that they'd messed up the order to the table next to me as well. I wouldn't say it's the wait staff's fault, but still, when you consider that there's a Taco Cabana, McDonald's, and Chipotle all next door, the wait was not pleasing. The food, however, was phenomenal. I ordered the Dirty Sanchez, the Republican, and another one, but the Dirty Sanchez was the best. I would only order 2 from now on since 3 was really too much. The classic lime margarita is the thickest frozen marg I've ever had and by far the most delicious. Every taco we had, from the Democrat to the Chicken Fajita, was so yummy. I very rarely go to torchy's even though I love it so much, but I had a really hard week this week with things just not going right and upon arriving at this torchys I didn't realize there wasn't any dogs allowed inside (with the exception of service animals) so before even going inside I turned around cause I had my dog with me. However to my surprise, I was greeted by one of the managers who showed me to the outside eating area and got someone to come take my order so I could get torchys and eat with my dog. Then, the server who came out was so nice and helpful. I rarely see a business go above and beyond like torchys just did. 10/10. oh and my food was amazing too! read more

Excellent food and excellent service. We went on a Thursday evening around 7pm and this place was packed, even with Baylor out for summer. I love that they have drink specials which is not something I've seen at most Torchy's. The only thing that made me give it a 4 star was that the indoor patio area was very hot and the noise level was extreme. I could not hear my people talking at all. read more

This place sucks. The service was horrible, they did not get a single part of our order correct. Then proceeded to deny their fault. The interior of the restaurant was filthy. It had obviously not been cleaned in days with trash cans overflowing and baskets piled up. What kind of Mexican restaurant does not have queso ready, and it should not take an hour to make. The tacos were absolutely amazing. I tried a little from all of our party, and every taco had its own flavor that was insanely delicious. They each have so many yummy ingredients that the tacos are bursting with flavors! My meal was so amazing I wanted to return the next day for more! You wait in line to order, we waited for about 20 minutes, and our tacos were up quick after that. I've never been to a Torchy's Taco (even though I heard we have one in Denver) so here I was in Waco trying it for the first time. Why? Well, there wasn't much to choose from at the moment! We had the chicken fajita and the green chili pork...both tasted good. I also ordered the black beans, which was spicy but pretty good too. I asked for one extra corn tortilla, they were nice enough to give me three! Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was okay! Meaning, it was good and I wouldn't avoid it, but I probably won't be running back anytime soon. PS - I'm not a fan of Fast Food and I don't drink alcohol, so you can take that into consideration with my 3* review. :) read more

Delicious and well worth the quick stop! I had the Trailer park and I got it "trashy", the Tipsy Chick and the Baja shrimp. We are taco people and these were some of the best Tacos we have ever had. The food was fresh and delicious! The bacon jam(I know it sounds odd but you must use it) for the Tipsy Chick put it over the top! The menu is the same as the Torchy's Tacos in Tyler, where I used to visit more frequently. I really like the menu here, since there's a variety, & they often have vegetarian-friendly items marked. I stopped here when I came into Waco to visit my sister in Hewitt, & I was picking up dinner for her family (as they had recently welcomed a new baby). She texted me the orders for her family. But when I got here, it was packed! I had to park in the shopping area parking lot across the street, since Torchy's parking lot had no vacancies. Then there was a line of people spilling 15 feet out the door, just waiting to place orders at the counter. I stood in line at least 20-30 minutes, & they only had one person working the register & taking orders. Terrible staffing job! The only other staff member I saw working there was taking the finished orders from the kitchen to the tables, or to the people standing & waiting for pickup orders. There wasn't any good place to sit or stand & wait for to-go orders or pickup orders where you didn't feel like you were out of someone's way. I felt like I stood to wait for my to-go order for another 10-15 minutes. Good thing I didn't need to use the restroom, since getting there would probably be another nightmare! At least the food is good for a decent price. I can get something vegetarian-friendly for myself, & pickup a variety of other great food for my non-vegetarian friends & family members. Since I enjoy the food here, I will probably come back here, but hopefully they will be better staffed &/or not as busy. read more

Tacos are 5 star, drinks are 5 star, waitresses are 3 star, but I ain't looking I'm just interested in the cooking. Love this crazy good torchys. When my gf is in Waco, she eats here 6 out of the 9 meal opportunities in a normal working 3 days. As a matter of fact, this is the place we met. I was stumbling out the door and busted my ass as well as cut my knee and she was kind enough to bandage me up. Customer Service: 4 Value: 2 Food Quality: 4 This place is packed on a consistent basis. The food quality is good, however be aware you are going to shell out $4-$5 on just ONE taco. They have some great flavors to add onto your taco as well. I recommend the Trailer Trash made "trashy" for the ultimate in taco flavor!! If they would take $2 of the price of their tacos then this place would get a 5 on value. $4-$5 is pretty steep for these, however since people continue pouring into this place I wouldn't expect the price to drop at all. read more

It's Torchy's. You know them, and if you don't know them, then you aren't from ATX and you might not get what the big deal is. They are a part of what "Keeping Austin Weird" means to a local Austinite. Ok, so sorry for the geosnobbish start, now for the restaurant itself. They are slow. Painfully slow. But, they are worth the wait. Take the time to talk with your cashier about what their favorites are and why. Ask about what is off of the menu to find special gems that only locals talk about. Definitely try the Trailer Park, trashy style and any of their tacos of the day. I'd give them 5 stars, but it is the wait that makes me give them 4. It seems like they should have their process down and it shouldn't take 20 minutes for a couple of tacos, but it does. We love Torchy's but this one is the worst I've been to. Ordered the salad but was told they aren't serving sit at all right now. Our order took forever, when it did come two of our orders were totally missed. By the time we ordered again and got our food everyone had been finished eating for over ten minutes and there was zero compensation for the messed up order or additional wait time. We had planned a quick dinner which ended up frustrating and took forever! Next time we're headed out of Waco we will stop at Chipotle next door instead. read more
