We have eaten here several times and it is usually our stop on the way to Nashville. Our first clue should have been a near empty parking lot at lunch time. We were greeted by the hostess and told we could sit whenever we wanted and we chose the bar. The bartender got us a couple waters while we looked at the menu. After several minutes she came back and we asked for chips and salsa. Several more minutes passed before she came back and we placed our order for food. Not a complicated lunch. I ordered Chicken Tinga Tacos and my wife ordered the Chicken Chile Relleno. We waited about 20 minutes, food hadn't arrived, we had eaten all the Chips and Salsa and the bartender was ignoring us. We could see the kitchen and it didn't look like the cooks were even working. Not sure how you could not take care of probably a total of 10 people during lunch. We told the bartender and manager we were leaving because we hadn't gotten our food and to cancel our order. What has happened to this place? Has it changed ownership? What we saw yesterday was a poorly run restaurant and it's kind of sad after having some many good meals here. read more

First timer from out of town, went to WKU 20 years ago. One friend brought me here and the next day another friend invited me to Toro. That's pretty impressive in a town overflowing with restaurants. It was fantastic. Our waitress was witty, knowledgeable, and attentive. Dimly lit, casual vibe with a "family" side and a "groovy" side, for the bigger kids. We sat at a high top near the bar. Chairs were nice but a bit clunky, we needed help to scoot up to the table as the legs did not play nicely with the flooring. When we walked in we noticed the daily specials on a board advertising a peach margarita. We each ordered one and it was excellent! Smokey, sweet, spicy... delightfully complex. Kudos to whoever conjured that recipe. We each ordered a second, it was that good. We also ordered tapas to share. The menu at Toro is intriguing. It's sort of Spanish but also some other random non-Spanish items. Either way I can 100% say get the clams. They are swimming in a delicious garlic butter wine sauce with chorizo that is perfect for sopping up with the grilled bread that comes with. I also tried the brisket burrito and, while it was fine, I would for sure try something different next time. The brisket was giving pot roast more than smoked brisket. Can't say enough about this place! Have been here probably 8 or so times for both brunch and dinner. Service is always great. I love the vibe in here- Spanish moss, cool lighting, velvet chairs. Wow! This place is incredible! Visited here from out of town, and very disappointed that I won't be back in the area again soon to come back. We ordered several things off the menu to share and everything was delicious. I highly recommend the chef special bowl with rice. Our server was fantastic, and very helpful with drink and food recommendations. They have delicious margaritas and fun seasonal drink options. This place was extremely disappointing. We had a party of 8. The only positive was our waitress--she was awesome. She's the only reason this gets 1 star. The food and management were a letdown. Multiple dishes came out cold and had to be sent back. The "chef's special" was not special at all--just a cold, unpleasant glob of rice and chicken. The tacos were also cold and sent back. We didn't even try the bacon-wrapped dates because the bacon looked old and unappetizing. After speaking with management, it was clear they didn't care about the issues. To make matters worse, my soon to be daughter-in-law went to use the restroom before the rest of us arrived. She didn't know the reservation name yet, and because she is Hispanic, she was denied restroom access until she provided the reservation name. That experience was unacceptable. The dusk, in which we drove, pulsated with energy, with the advent of the full moon, to appear, this very night! And so, to celebrate the annual advent of The GS Nationals, we came to unite with fellow car fanatic friends!! Upon walking in, staff greeted politely, & we joined, the many, already gathered at our long table. Though not fans of the modern & trendy, the setting, seemed bright & inviting. Whilst the atmosphere, seemed relaxed & friendly. Especially friendly, was our Lil Latina server, who accommodated us, with relaxed ease & efficiency! Her niceness, was a pleasant boon, as she took orders, filled our drinks, & carried in, many a platter, piled high with food, almost effortlessly..One platter: the familiar fare of loaded nachos, was a crowd pleaser for sure! As there can never be enough, of crunchy chips & gooey cheese! Whilst the seafood ceviche, so bright & light, contrasted pleasantly.. More platters arrived, piled high, with fusion food, which appeared so very appetizing!! So many orders arrived, from lamb chops; to seafood paella; to Beau's lomo saltado; to my own, fish tacos. This restaurant is beautiful inside. The menu is the most interesting combo of cuisines in Bowling Green. Our server was very knowledgeable about the drink and food menu. I love to ask questions before ordering and you can tell when the owner really cares about his business because the servers have actually tasted the food! The garlic shrimp, fish and potato croquettes, and the chef's special were all delicious. The chef's special came with fries or rice. I don't know how this place isn't rated higher. It's a gem. House fries? Amazing. Margaritas? Amazing, and you can get a pitcher plus chips and salsa for $20 on Mondays or during happy hour. Try the guava or the sangarita. Then do yourself a favor and order the Toro sampler. It's $12 and enough to be a meal. The stuffed piquillo peppers are my favorite I've ever had. I go to this place all the time for dinner when I visit BG, but today was my first time stopping by for brunch. The shrimp and grits were incredible, and so was the fried chicken special. Bowling Green is the last big stop before Tennessee for food. Aka...Scottsville Road exit. Every fast food you can think of is here. Like if you're from Ohio.,, they have a Donato's.which is random and amazing quick pizza. But...there are some hidden, local gems too! It's a one minute walk from the Hilton Garden Inn and Courtyard. Traditionally, is just go to Double Dogs. Which is fine if you're looking for good bar food. But this place is new and right next store. I read other reviews which stated that the music is loud. I don't disagree. It is a little in the loud side but again, there's nothing on the inside to absorb the sound. If you want a quiet, intimate dinner...go elsewhere. But if you want to expand your palate and try something new...Toro is the place! The have main entrees but the tapas side of the menu is where the action is at. Tried the pork belly for starters. Let's just say.. one if the best I've ever had. The outside is grilled and crunchy but inside is tender. The sauce is spot on. Was leery of the pear mustard part.. but mixed with the chimichurri .. yes yes yes. You could split this between two people. Next tried the clams. I know, I know... I'm in Kentucky but still.., as a tapas plate... in was intrigued. It was actually a solid dozen of small clams. Which for the price was a deal. The sauce...chorizo, cava, garlic herb butter. Here's why I'm not at 5 stars... probably 3.5. Its the amount of chorizo in the sauce. It somewhat overwhelms the clams and garlic herb butter. This dish would be PERFECT without the chorizo. Next time, I would try to order without. It's just too over powering. Now..talking out of the other side of my mouth,. That sauce... for dipping the grilled bread that comes with it.. omg. It's amazing. But the focus is clams. Or should be. In my pictures, you'll see how much sauce is left over. The rest of the menu looked amazing the service was great. Is everything I rate five stars the best I've ever had? No. But I rate establishments based not only on food, but service, decor, ambiance. Toro isn't exactly true tapas, and not really true Spanish food--maybe an Americanized version, but it's something different for Bowling Green. We had a few of their tapas dishes: papas brava (like patatas bravas, or spicy home fries), ceviche (calamari, corn, veggies, shrimp--I didn't have, but my friend liked it). We also had the pork belly and its mustard like sauce. It was crispy outside and chewy inside, as expected. They also have a tasty looking meat pie, flamed salmon, yuca fries, Spanish meatballs, and more. There are salads, quesadillas, and entrees. I had the pork belly pasta (linguine, peas, mushrooms, cream, cheese). I was surprised that the pasta was very close to Al dente, which is hard to find in a restaurant--the pasta is usually overdone. They also have steak dishes, enchiladas, fish, paella. We also had several cocktails. We tried their margarita, which was a little sweet. The blood orange caipirinha, which wasn't as sweet, but was a little different than the traditional, but pretty good. The amigos perdidos was tart. Their mezcal mule wasn't traditional either, but it was so tasty I had two! Very light and refreshing. They had several cocktails to choose from. Our server was the bartender--he seemed to be everyone's server. He was attentive and nice and gave us several recommendations. One thing I would recommend: please turn down the overhead music, and maybe pick something a little lower key. It's hard to concentrate on conversation and the food when music is blaring. Overall, I would come here again to try some more dishes and drinks. An interesting addition to the fairly vanilla Bowling Green dining scene. read more

First time here. The inside seems very clean and the staff is friendly. The music was a little annoying for my taste but, I'm a fuddy duddy. The Bocata Sandwich was delicious. The meats combined were really good and the bread was a great! I've never eaten a bread like this. It looked like bread before it's cooked but it is soft in the middle with a slight crunch.
