Pet peeve, to the host, size up your guests and find the table that would "fit" the party. Some older adults have a hard time trying to get up on high top chairs or high booths. This should be in hosting 101. Ordered the seared tuna and the ceviche sampler . Tuna very good, ceviche needed salt. I went with the lamb taco. Very dry. I sent it back. My daughter got the beef burrito. Nice size, but a lot of rice small amount of beef. Needed more cheese too. My girlfriend got the pork taco. Very moist and tasty. I had two jalapeño margaritas. My girlfriend had two house special margaritas. My daughter got a soda. $142.00. For lunch . Don't get me wrong, it was good but for the price I thought a tad expensive. . Must mention the manager did come over to apologize. Offered to make a new lamb taco. He Handled it very well. Extra points for that. As we were getting boxes, my daughter wanted to take the chips. we went to TORO Cantina for the first time and we were sadly disappointed. our drinks didn't come out before our meal, and I'm not sure if they had any alcohol in them. My son ordered a sprite and it was totally flat. We ordered the kids meal and the drink was supposed to be included but was charged $4 and another $7 to add meat to his taco. We ventured out with friends to see what all the hype was about and I'm glad we did! The decor is very modern and well thought out. It's almost like you stepped out of Albany upon walking in. We started with some apps and although they were small, they were delicious. I ordered the tacos which were delicious. My husband had a burrito which he loved. Toro Cantina is a new place in town and is easily a new favorite. The best part about this place is the ambiance and the food is great. We got the Classic Guacamole and it was insanely delicious. Also got the Steak Fajitas and Jackfruit Burrito Bowl - both absolutely delicious. Portion sizes are huge and great for the price. I am reposting my review of Toro Cantina after noticing it has been moved out of view and categorized as one of "3 reviews for Toro Cantina that are not currently recommended." I gave an honest assessment of my experience there and hope Yelp will operate honestly and post this. I think it is important that diners are aware of places that are unsafe. I went to Toro on June 29 with my wife. It is a beautiful restaurant. Great drinks, the food is very good and the service is excellent. Unfortunately they do not enforce their safety guideline. I saw at least 10 other diners walk past our table NOT wearing masks, which are required. A little 2 or 3 year old boy was running around without a mask. We complained to the 20-something manager, but it's clear enforcement is very lax. For this reason, I give it one star and will not be returning until the pandemic is behind us. read more

This place is fairly new to the Albany area and such a treat! Definitely make reservations (on open table) because they are busy. The interior is STUNNING, so pretty and well decorated. We sat outside which was beautiful as well. All the staff was amazing and so friendly. The menu selection is diverse with so many delicious beverages and tequilas to choose from. The guacamole was outstanding and big enough for a few people (although two of us ate the whole thing). Their homemade chips are seriously so good, some of my favorite I've ever had. We had carnitas tacos and carne asada tacos both which were delicious. Also got the rice and beans which was flavorful. I will definitely be returning to Toro Cantina. I loved the carnitas burrito, the plantains and churros for dessert. My family got the chicken enchiladas and tortilla soup and empanadas. Everything was delicious. And the simple margarita and habanero Fuego margarita were strong and delicious! Dissapointing. 1st time I went there in the spring I had a great meal. This time, terrible. Start with the Margarita. I ordered a peach cobbler margarita, and there was nothing peachy about it, was a regualr, and sub par one. Queso was good and the only hot thing that was brought to us all night. When asked to heat up a cold dinner was told, "no microwave", new plate brought out, and was warm at best. Beans and rice very dry, I think it sat waiting for a long time, Very dissapointing, and the server was below average didn't apologize or seem to even to care, I would go so far as to say was irritated. So fun! The environment is modern and clean with lots of social-media worthy pics. This made we question if the food would live up to the hype, but I'm happy to say the food was actually really great. We got tacos and the churro cart for dessert to celebrate my birthday. Party of 2 on a Saturday 4:30 not busy. Started to pick up with guests and get nicely busy around 5:15. Our first time here, wanted to try it for a while. Service was ok..not great, not bad..but ok and server was pleasant enough, timing of food was ok. For taste, freshness, quality of food ok, not great..but just ok. Portion sizes ok, not great..but just ok. See the trend?? But where they lose me is overall price...we ordered no alcohol, just a soda and an iced tea. Got the free salsa and chips. Ordered the sharable Guacamole and Queso and the Quesa Birria appetizer ( 2 braised beef tacos etc etc dipped in the beef jus then griddled) best thing we ate. Then a cheese quesadilla with a side of refried beans and sour cream. Also the Pescado's (3 lightly fried fish tacos with habanero tarter and slaw) no side. The bill was a $110...uggh..and with tip $132...WTF!!!! Not worth it!!! So to sum up...in my opinion NOT worth the $$$ ...will go to another 3 or 4 local Mexican restaurants that aren't as foo foo fluff fluff etc.... read more

This place did a great job of being Covid safe if you are comfortable eating out. There is a lot fo rooms between tables and when you sit down you can easily scan to read the menu. I was really excited to go here to try the drinks. Had to start it off with Margarita, I ordered a peach marg but then was brought a traditional, this is the main reason they lost a star as they kept forgetting things in the order. After the marg I tried a mezcal cocktail that comes with a smoke bubble on top, so cool and really delicious. For food the table does get chips and salsa, the salsa was slightly smokey which was really yummy. I ended up getting the shrimp tacos and making it meal with rice and beans. The shrimp tacos had a spicy papaya sauce that had a nice kick and great flavor. Someone in my party ordered the sweet potato and goat cheese salad and added chicken but when the salad came the chicken was left off, which was now the second item that was wrong. Even without the chicken though she they really enjoyed the Salad. Overall I will definitely be returning and would make a great choice for takeout as well if your looking to have something special. read more

First time my family and I went to this Restaurant to celebrate my son's birthday there was a total of 15 family members & a couple of us flew in from Florida. We were surprised that our table couldn't accommodate 15 of us, when we told when we made the reservation that they would. They had two tables and the Hostess named Alaina told us she couldn't put the tables together when there was two empty tables right next to six of our family member who sat down. She said it was the policy of the restaurant & couldn't put the tables together. I asked to speak to someone who can make a decision to see if the family can stay together to celebrate my son's birthday. She wouldn't accommodate us. I asked our waitress if we can speak to the Manager and/or the Owner and she immediately got the Manager who was named Cassandra. We explained the situation and she too couldn't put the tables together. Your Manager told me to calm down and she could get me a drink, I said I didn't need a drink. I was upset because this was our first time at the Restaurant and we were excited to go and celebrate my son's birthday. The Restaurant spoiled our celebration and your Manager said to me if I didn't want a drink to calm down, she'll offer a free drink to my son or a dessert, which he didn't want. He was upset because his birthday celebration was ruined, as well as all of our 15 family members. When we were leaving the Restaurant your nasty Hostess Alaina made comments to all of us. She told me "I hope you feel better. " it ruined our birthday celebration my son, his wife & nephew took their dinner home. It's sad that your Restaurant couldn't accommodate a party of 15, you will definitely be losing a lot of customers especially, with staff that don't accommodate you and/or make nasty remarks to customers as we exited. I told your Hostess that, I hoped it never happens to her when she has a family celebration and they separate the family. It was upsetting and embarrassing and we didn't even get to order desserts because everyone wanted to leave. To respond to the Owner. We did call and were told that a second small table could accommodate 3 people and the other table could accommodate 12 and our party was 15 , that would have worked instead of separating the group and ruining our celebration. Ordered the mole short rib, overpriced for the portion and it was too salty. Have had much more meat and better mole for 70% that cost. The rice was comparable to the quality of a school cafeteria and I expected the beans to be better too. I work at Chipotle and even though I am sick of the food there I can say with full confidence that the rice and beans are much better there. We've been here before about a year ago, and things were fine. Unfortunately, we had a very bad night here this weekend. We had friends in town and brought them here after telling them it was our son's favorite and good Mexican. We arrived for our reservation and were seated promptly. The waitress arrived and took our drink order and we decided to order the apps right away to get started since we were starving, and planned to order our dinners when the apps arrived. Another person brought the drinks (the classic margaritas with mango were very good) and apps so we were not able to place the dinner order at that time. As I mentioned, we were starving. So we shared our couple of apps and ate the two trays of chips with salsa and guac...waiting...waiting...waiting for our waitress to come back and take our dinner order. Finally, after filling up on chips, she came back, 1 1/2 hours later. At that point, we were full of chips, tired after a long day, and just decided to get the check and go home. I have to note, we did notice a few other tables around us also waiting for long periods for someone to come and check on them. Extremely disappointing. We recently moved from Virginia and have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant. We ordered from here a couple of weeks ago and got the carne asada, lamb, and sweet potato tacos. We paid about $80 for the tacos and a pitcher of margarita. For that hefty price, we were definitely expecting more and figured if there are 2 tacos each, they might be a fairly good sized portion. We were a bit disappointed on the portion of the tacos. They were extremely delicious but we felt like we were skimped out. There wasn't enough salsa or any toppings for that matter. We felt like we were eating more tortilla than anything - not much balance. We gave them a pass due to the current circumstances and because this was our first time. However, we do plan on coming back once things are back to normal to see if this was a mistake or if this is their MO. The margarita was fairly tart but I didn't mind it because I love tart margs! But their chips and salsa.... THEY ARE SO DANG GOOD!!!!! And those weren't definitely not skimped out. I would recommend and hope this was a one time thing! read more

Beautiful restaurant but food is average and overpriced. Ordered plancha Skirt steak with shrimp. Steak was bland and shrimp was $9 extra charge. I don't mind paying the fee for the shrimp but they were micro and flavorless. I wouldn't mind if they gave u less shrimp and they were bigger with flavor. Rice was mushy and beans taste like they came straight out the can. Mexican food is supposed to be flavorful but I got from this restaurant it was lacking. Good not great, but it could have been an off night, so we may try it again. The staff was friendly and polite as we were brought to our table. The chips and salsa were very good. The drinks we ordered, Patron on the rocks with lime, came with no rocks and a lot of salt on the rim. The waiter reacted quickly and brought a glass of ice. The food took way too long to come out, tables that were seated with us already had too go boxes before we were served. The food looked great, the portions were good, but it was just ok. The fixings for the fajita were way too small and came without a way to put them on the fajita. The fajita also wasn't sizzling, which made us wonder if they rushed it out or forgot to put in the enchilada. The enchilada was good, but had a little too much grated cheese. This made it taste a little more Italian than Mexican. 2.5-3 stars. We hope it was just an off night, or we were that customer that had a bad experience. read more

This past Saturday was our 5th or 6th trip to Toro. The food and service had always been superb. The waitress took our drink and appetizer order and the apps arrived within a minute or so, leading us to believe everything was already prepped and reheated. Our drinks did not arrive until our apps were finished. When our entrees arrived, the waitress appeared and asked how our entrees were. How would we know that? They just arrived! We never saw our waitress again and had to flag someone down for water refills and a clean napkin. Considering the place was maybe half full, there is no excuse for such awful service. Additionally, the music was unbearably loud, so conversation was impossible. We had recommended Toro to some friends and they said basically the same thing. The waitress was awful and the music was absurdly loud. As much as we loved Toro, I doubt we will be returning anytime soon. read more

Overall it was a really cool place. American Mexican food with fairly large quantity. Decor and service was great., staff seems friendly and we were able to get seated right away. We didn't order any appetizers as chips and salasa were enough for the two of us. I had house margarita, can't complain here. We ordered vegetable fajitas. This is where I have issues with most Mexican restaurants. I want my fajitas sizzling when they arrive. These were warm when they arrived and full of water. There was no flavor here. This is the only reason I'm giving it a 3 star. We had also ordered chicken enchilada. Overall it had good flavor, just a litttle sour for my taste. It came in large quantity with rice and beans. Ultimately, I would definitely eat here again and would hope that fajitas would be a little better next time. And that they add vegetarian friendly options to the menu. read more
