Sushi.com had always been my go-to sushi spot in Spokane and we decided to try Toro Sushi and OMG we weren't disappointed. We ordered the vegetable tempura which had at least ten big pieces of veggies including avocado, mushrooms, sweet potato, squash, onion, etc. We also ordered the Kato III and Ready for Hell rolls. Just chunks mashed together Three large containers of wasabi and ginger took up a lot of space in the 3x5 container. Pretty disappointed for what we got for the money. Unfortunately my quest isn't over... Let me start off with the positives. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant and the customer service was excellent. The Miso Soup was delicious! You may be thinking so what? But trust me, not all Miso Soups are created equally. Now the bad...My fiancé and I ordered three rolls: Tornado, Candy, and Bunny. Out of the three, the Candy was the only one that was somewhat enjoyable. I was most disappointed by the Bunny roll...I've had better from a grocery store. For me excellent sushi must consist of high quality fresh fish and rice that's made perfectly (not super chewy & dry). I love when it literally just melts in my mouth...people who've had fantastic sushi know what I'm talking about. Sadly non of the above apply to my experience. Toro Sushi holds the monopoly in the valley for sushi joints. I am a sushi snob and honestly, it's not stupendous. The fish is fresh, however the sun in this place kills the atmosphere. The wait staff always seem stressed out--probably because they are understaffed. The sunrise roll is hands down the most delicious. And the salmon sashimi never disappoints. The appetizer menu could use a fresh shake up. Perhaps adding a fresh poke salad option would help. The cocktails are decent, and it would help if they had a Japanese beer, such as Asahi, on tap with frosted glasses. Small changes such as this and rearranging the seating in the dining area would boost the quality of this joint, immensely, in my opinion. However, if you're looking for phenomenal sushi, Wasabi Bistro north side (same owner as QQ) is the place to go. Although the sun also kills the mood there too.... read more

This place was just alright for me. My waitress was a beautiful girl, but bit flighty and uneducated on the menu. I ordered the Candy roll (delicious, those jalapenos are a fabulous touch of spice) and the Shogun (bland and ugly. Sushi is art and this roll wasn't.) I feel like a paid a bit to much for what I got and left not wanting to go back. If you want sushi and you can't leave the Valley this place is alright, but if you can make it downtown you'll definitely get an all around more satisfying meal and experience. read more

My family and I walked in to this restaurant excited for some of their famous Yakisoba Chicken Noodles. We had asked the waiter to order four bowls and an appetizer. Then the owner yells loudly "no noodles for Friday and Saturday, unless we eat there, no take-out" So then we decided to sit down and eat there. Then the rude owner says "I can't guarantee how long, but your wait will be long so go to Noodle express across the street!" We are very disappointed and embarrassed of how shockingly impolite he was towards us and his employee's. Warning to anyone who goes there, be prepared to be embarrassed. Don't waste your time and money with such discourteous people! Not to mentions my last experience with this owner, yelling so rudely towards his employees struggling to wait tables. Our food was guaranteed to come out after our one hour wait and didn't get our food until another hour and a half later! This owner needs to be fired!!! read more

I got take out recently. 3 rolls, including a spicy tuna roll. And a tuna roll with seared white tuna on top, and a roll with shrimp tempura inside and tuna on top. Not huge I actually ate all of it. The service was fast and very nice. The food...was disappointing. Spicy tuna tasted okay but like half the amount of fish as in some of the images here..seemed less than what is wrapped in the spicy tuna rolls at yokes. Freshness was mediocre but that may be due to covid 19 and less sales recently. The seared white tuna one was unpleasant...firm and I couldn't even really tell it was seared. Usually you can see a nice seared layer and I don't mind if it was just raw too. This was just not fresh tasting. My standards aren't too crazy for sushi either, I think poke express actually gave me fresher fish and that conveyer belt sushi place gave me better tasting fish. read more

Coming from the Bay Area and having visited Japan, the place is as good as it gets for Spokane Valley. The Super Volcano is the one that we always get. Everything we have tried on the House Special Rolls have been great. The seafood is fresh, which is the most important thing! I would skip the cucumber salad, you can make that at home. First of all, I loved the food. Really. Everything we ordered was delicious. And this being the COVID-era, I really did try to be patient. But tonight we waited over an hour for our food. They were busy, but not so busy they couldn't accommodate us. We saw our waitress 3 times the entire night. Most of the wait staff was standing around. No one one came by to offer us anything to drink aside from water. We asked the water girl to check on how much longer it would be for our food. She never did. Several people complained. I will try again another time, but this was the worst service I have ever received in a restaurant. I worked customer service before and know it isn't easy. But even if the kitchen is running slow, they could have at least come around to apologize or check on us. And chefs preparing raw food really should be wearing a mask properly. read more

Worst service experience I've ever received. I came in to order rolls to go for my family. I patiently stood in line to be addressed. After 15 minutes a couple came in behind me and was immediately addressed that they would be seated shortly. The male server with glasses walked right past me as if I didn't exist and seated the couple behind me. Little did he know I was going to order for a family of 6 but because I was by myself apparently I was not worth any acknowledgment and treated as if I was invisible. I left and will never return. Welcome to the Valley, Toro Sushi! I've had my fair share of sushi, enough to say with confidence: this place is 5-star worthy. First off, the important part: the ingredients are fresh. Really fresh. They carefully wrap each meat with fresh food wrap after slicing each portion. The kitchen is right next to the bar so you can see for yourself how clean they keep their equipment. Secondly the staff here is delightful. I've never had sushi chefs more engaging and happy to serve. First time trying this place and it will be the last time. Over priced with small portions. After looking at the prices I decided I would go broke eating as much as I would have liked to. So I went with just chicken teriyaki and two pieces of sushi. The chicken teriyaki was $13.95 for one small scoop of rice and a small dried out chicken breast with steamed cabbage, onions and broccoli chopped up like a coleslaw. The two pieces of sushi (eel) were $5.45 and they were small! That's almost $3 a bite! With one beer came to a total of $25.38 before tip. read more

Came in tonight at 7:45 for dinner before going to a movie, were told about 25 minute wait so they took our phone number and we went to wait in our car...25 minutes later we decided to go and wait inside...10 minutes later a girl came up to us and said she is cleaning off a table then will get us sat. We waited. While waiting a guy comes up to us and says they dont have hot food only sushi rolls and we said that's fine then he walks away. Few minutes later he comes back and says sorry we arent seating tables anymore but you can do a togo order if you want. WHAT?! The service is terrible here! We waisted 45 minutes waiting for a table and then being told we can do a togo order. Never coming back. Sad because the food is usually good here. read more

Ordered a smoked salmon nigiri and unfortunately the salmon was super thin instead of an actual slice of salmon. This started out as our favorite sushi place but after tonight, we've decided we don't want to go there anymore. There was confusion on whether or not their Wasabi is gluten free and I have been told previously there that it is. I'm highly allergic so had I ever tried it, it would have been a huge problem. I just think the servers should be well aware of allergies in their food, but also any of the cooks. Secondly the service is always slow. We always request our edamame to come before the meal and it never does. In fact, it's often after the meal. Tonight was just the end of us dealing with it all. The food is AMAZING here and that's why it gets any stars at all. I have NEVER had such an unprofessional encounter with a business owner in my LIFE. Me and few friends ordered to go: 2 crunch rolls, 1 California roll, 1 Las Vegas roll and some gyoza. We ordered based off the photos and descriptions from the online menu, and the knowledge of the menu from previous visits. When I picked it up, I asked to see the receipt to make sure they got the order right over the phone because the call kept getting cut out. The receipt had exactly what we ordered so I paid, tipped, thanked them and left. When we got home we opened our boxes and nothing but the gyoza was right. They had accidentally given us two orders of California rolls instead of crunch rolls. The Las Vegas rolls also looked NOTHING like the menu photos or the Vegas rolls we got from Toro last time. We called and let them know the order was wrong; no big deal. We live 20 minutes away and we weren't going to make them redo the food 5 minutes to closing so we just wanted to let them know it was wrong. The owner answered and asked if I could text him a photo of our food (little weird but okay) so we did. I sent him the food and the receipt. Instead of saying like "oh the menu changed" or "it's different for to go" he IMMEDIATELY called me and said "nothings wrong, the orders fine!" I politely disagreed and said it was totally different from the menu and the last time we ate there. This is where it got MIND BLOWING. I tried to tell the owner why I was confused. MOST business owners would said "I'm sorry you were confused, how can fix it?" BUT OH NO. When this guy refused to acknowledge my concerns I sent him a text back and let him know that I don't normally review places, but the way he was handling it would not make me want to leave a good review. He called me IMMEDIATELY (twice, back to back after I didn't answer the first call: I was over it). He started cussing at me and told me he was going to SUE ME for false information (whatever that means??) and started screaming at me. He called me stupid, told me to shut up and listen multiple times, called me a m***er f***er and that he was going to sue me and "f**** me up". I've never been so baffled in my LIFE. This was the CRAZIEST most unprofessional encounter I've ever had with a restaurant in my life. It's so disappointing because we told him repeatedly that the food was great it just wasn't what we ordered. I wish I would have recorded the phone call because it was truly wild. I ended up have to block his number because he WOULDN'T STOP CALLING ME. All in all: great sushi, horrible service. I sadly won't be returning. read more
