Torrance Bakery is one of our family favorite bakeries. When we lived in the South Bay, it was our go to bakery for cakes, pastries, cookies, and many other wonderful baked goodies they offer. Their Buttercream Frosting is one of the best around! Their Chocolate Frosting/Dobash is definitely the best around! We truly miss being close by, but when in the area, it's a must stuff either this location or their Garden store! My son made a special trip to Torrance Bakery for my birthday cake. I have been hearing about this place and have tried so many of their items through the years when people would bring them to work or after attending parties and have never come in here - until today! I happen to be dining nearby and noticed that the bakery was within walking distance after my meal. I was in the area and my friend said they have a very good chocolate chip cookie so what do I do I go and buy a half dozen, but I also see a chocolate chew, maple chew and peanut butter cookies too so I go and purchase two each. Well to my surprise I only really liked the maple chew and I didn't get to have one until I got home. They were chewy and tasted some honey and maple syrup and walnuts in them. They were fabulous above all the other cookies I bought. Luckily I went to visit some other friends along the way home and unloaded them to cookie lovers. Service was good as I asked some questions and they were answered politely by the staff with a cheery smile. You can order cakes and other desserts. As you can see this review is long overdue for Torrance Custom Bakery Department based on a few of the pics that I've posted below of the many custom cakes that I've ordered over the last 4 to 5 years; however I've been ordering cakes from Torrance Bakery for atleast 25 years. Let me just start off by saying that the staff is so good at their job that most of the time I didn't even order these cakes in person; literally by making a call to place the order and sending a picture via email. Every person that has assisted me was very polite, patient and knowledgeable to make my order experience exceptional and an amazing outcome for my orders! Now the cakes are always moist, the fillings are very delectable and the icings are perfectly creamy and not too sweet. The entire bakery is a pleasant experience from the deli cafe (great sandwiches, salads, soups, etc...) to the inside of the bakery with some of the best cookies, donuts, cupcakes and single slices of many of their delicious cakes; yes I've tried them all! Street parking is usually available in front of the bakery and there are some tables and chairs outside for a nice quick outside date with a friend. What an amazing jewel of a bakery this place is. I found it a few weeks ago after having breakfast with my daughter. We got some pastries for ourselves and my husband, since he's a "sugar lover". The place was clean and well lit, the people were kind and welcoming, they were also quick to help. An oldie but goldie here in Old Town Torrance! I've been coming here for a while and every time I have come, Torrance Bakery never disappoints. They have parking in the rear now, which I don't recall if it's new or not. But feel free to check there if you don't find parking in the front. For a Saturday, the crowd wasn't bad. We were in and out within 5 minutes! My go-to is the cheesecake tart. I also recommend the happy face cookie. This was my husband's first time trying and he got a vanilla and raspberry cake slice. The place has that vintage classic feel to it. And after my uncle mentioned that this bakery existed way before del amo mall--I was fascinated in learning more about Old Torrance. The purchase is easy, you go to the front and select from the variety of delicious baked goods; from donuts to cakes. My sister got the dot cake while me and my brother selected donut holes. The person at front will help you with anything. Once you make your selection, you will recieve your baked goods and you get to sit and enjoy! My brother loved the donuts and my sister thinks the donuts were basic. I, on the otherhand, enjoy the experiance of visiting the bakery in both ambiance and service. The donut holes were certainly interesting. While very sweet, the donut holes feel like a classic donut hole that you can find at any bakery. But even despite how simple the taste of the donut was, I find that there was a beauty in it's simplicity. I don't know what it is about this donut that makes it stand out, but compared to most donut holes I have tried--this version has something memorable.
