wow, imagine going into one of the best BBQ joints in Texas, only this one is better. For one, the sides are absolutely better than anything I ever had in Texas. They are intriguingly nice twists to the familiar but at such a high quality, fresh ingredients really helps. Two, this place does Tri-Tip, and being a Southern Californian at heart, I can say I've eaten a LOT of Tri-Tip and this place does it like no other! Ribs were great, tender but not "moist heat" fall apart like, excellent flavor. Brisket was awesome too. The sauces were even great and I'm not really big on sauces, usually too sweet or too something. These were very well balanced, and nicely spice. On a tip from a friend at work we took some friends here for dinner during a recent fishing trip. Everyone loved it. Open for dinner only, 5-9 p.m., Mon-Sat. (closed Sun. only). Little roadside signage; look for the Thousand Lakes RV Park and park by the store. Restaurant is behind that. Rustic, campground feel; simple layout and expertly prepared food. You order at the window and they call your name. Picnic-table dining...kind of a ranch-style mess hall feel. Great BBQ sauce choices and homemade drinks. I had the tri-tip and my wife had the grilled salmon. Both were $20 all inclusive (dessert included) and were excellent. Just wish my sides were a big larger or that there was an option for supersizing them. Meat servings, however, were generous. This restaurant or better said BBQ joint is a diamond in the rough hidden at the back of an RV park. For those of you that think that this is not for me, you are so wrong. This may be some of the best BBQ I have had in a long time. We came here the first night to poke our heads in and see what was the vibe. All to say, we stayed. Very Clean, attention to detail candles for lights in the evening, Fire pit in the dinning room that doubles for a marshmallow roasting station if you get s'mores for desert. First visit we had ribs and tri-tip, all meals included drink from the drink stand, a little flat bread appetizer, two sides, homemade cornbread, meat or fish, and desert. We had to come back for a second round the next evening. I had Chicken and my wife had Salmon, both were excellent. I am all about food and my wife is all about the Vibe. Ok, first thing and I suppose most importantly - food was fine. Based on the Yelp reviews others had given, I was expecting everything else to be great too. That didn't happen but almost everything I didn't like could be easily fixed. Here's my negatives in order of importance to me. Flies everywhere in eating and cooking areas. Why not invest in fly strips or fly bait? Difficult to eat while constantly swatting flies. You're eating in a big tent. That might have been ok, but why no fans? Would have helped with heat and flies. No view except for tent walls. Plastic sheeting tent walls might have helped rather than the canvas they used. Another Yelp review mentioned a nice view but there wasn't one from the picnic tables inside the tent. You had to pay and decide on your TIP when you place your order. If they have to take your $$ first, they should put out a tip jar and encourage you to use it AFTER your meal. A few varieties of BBQ sauce and sugar on request was about it for condiments. No tartar sauce for their one seafood option. Even if they didn't want to make the effort of homemade tartar sauce, having a big squirt bottle on hand would seem to be a reasonable minimum. No sugar substitutes for the tea - hope diabetics bring their own. Music (if you can call it that) was awful and seemed to be coming out of a single broken speaker. Upbeat Country music probably would fit the theme they were trying to achieve. Finally, decor was primitive. Plastic flowers on tables - yikes. No flowers or some desert cactus or plant would have been better. read more

What a great surprise! We were just staying in Torrey for the night, and this restaurant was recommended to us by our motel manager. Boy am I glad he did recommend it! The people were great and really happy to help. The atmosphere was very homey and nice. And the food! It was so tender and juicy. The ribs were especially good, as well as the corn on the cob and the garlic mashed potatoes. It may be a little pricey, by its totally worth it for what you get. The appetizer you get with your meal is also delicious! So, if you're ever driving through Torrey or staying for a little bit and are looking for a place to eat, I would highly recommend Torrey Grill and BBQ! read more

We're from out of town and spent the day hiking in Capital Reef. We wanted something better than an overpriced steak at the local steakhouses, and Torrey Grill popped up on Yelp. Y'ALL, GO HERE. I got the smoked half chicken, and that bird was nothing but bones when I got through with it. My husband got the ribeye, cooked exactly how he wanted it and juicy. All our sides were great, too, and the brownie sundae was simple but just right. The atmosphere is great, too: casual, covered outdoor dining with a very cool hanging fire pit. Great BBQ sort of in the middle of nowhere. I loved the simple atmosphere with the owner and workers who care and provide great food!

I can't even express how great this place is. Definitely the culinary highlight of our 10 days in and around the Utah parks. And the fact that it is in such an unexpected setting just makes it better. Counter service and prices (less than $100 for our family of four) with white tablecloth quality. It would be a great setup for families with kids. Mine are teens but appreciated the efficiency and laid back setting after a long day in the heat hiking. The only thing that could possibly have made my salmon better would have been a nice glass of wine with it. They do not serve alcohol but a couple of patrons brought in their own so I'd suggest that if you're so inclined. Everyone loved their food--from flatbread with pimento cheese (this southerner thought it was some of the best I've ever had) to ribs and outstanding desserts. The food was really good, but the price is way to high for the amount of food you get. They need to lower the price or increase the portions. I left hungry even after paying $25 for a combo plate. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Also, they don't even bring the food to you. Yet ask you to tip when you pay. Why ask for a tip if you don't provide service. I travel a lot for work and eat BBQ in many famous places around the country and Torrey Grill & BBQ is without a doubt one of the most amazing ones. We ordered the Pork Ribs and the Tri Tips. I lived in California for 15 years and have had a lot of tri tip and I was not a fan at all of the preparation of this tri tip. I would avoid that one. The loaded cream corn was our favorite side. I wasn't a fan of the baked beans and I usually love baked beans at BBQ places. This place was the inspiration to finally write a Yelp review. It's the best food we've eaten on our 10 day Utah road trip, and I don't think it's a close race. Finding this place is a fun adventure in itself. It's nestled behind an RV campground, without much signage to let you know it's there. The ambiance is lowkey but once you find it, it's a great place to just enjoy the food. I had the combo platter, on which everything was good. The ribs were probably best. Tried it with the Louisiana spicy BBQ sauce, great addition. $20 for a 3 course bbq meal was an absolute steal. Meal included a complimentary appetizer, dessert, and all you can drink lemonade/iced tea. This meal would cost you $40 easily in the Northeast. Service was great, only 3 people working but we didn't wait on anything. Probably the highest compliment to pay is that my girlfriend loved this place, and she's a pescetarian. I've struggled to find food she can eat at BBQ restaurants, but she had the grilled salmon and loved it. Not many great options for pescetarians in this region so this was a pleasant surprise. My wife and I travel extensively with our motor coach, we have never been so surprised by the quality of food as we are with the Torrey Grill and BBQ located inside the Thousand Lakes RV park. The owner (Peter)was attentive and well trained in the culinary arts, his assistant Abeer (she goes by Abbey as well) greeted us and our dogs with a broad smile and was a gracious host. We've now eaten two evening meals with them and found the chicken, pork ribs, tri-tip and salmon cooked to perfection along side some of the best sides ever. If you're headed to the Capital Reef area of Utah, you have to stop by and plan to eat dinner there. We will return again! read more

Funkiest place in town, I feel sure (although Paizlees certainly has some funk going on). Let's start with ambiance... crushed stone floor, fire pit in the room, picnic tables, plastic eating utensils and throw away meal containers and blues blasting out of heavy duty speakers. Order as you come in...when they run out of something it gets erased from the white board . Only canned drinks and water ( it's Utah!) but you can bring your own bottle of wine and gLAsses if you wish. Located in the middle of an RV park adds to the experience. Ordered the tri- tip and bbq beans... generous portion of both...tri- tip was was tender and cooked to perfection.Hubs had the salmon that looked delish and some corn that had been dressed up and tasted like fresh corn off the cob. Had the cobbler and ice cream and cobbler could have been warmer and a bit more generous serving. Also, while waiting for the entrees, you got a small paper cup of pimento cheese and fresh veggies. Ate there tonight (6/2/18). Ordered the ribs and salmon. Ribs were as tough as I've ever found anywhere and reminded me of what you would find in a cheap Chinese restaurant. Salmon was very small portioned for the money. The Apple crisp and ice cream were not bad but the apples needed to be cooked more - they were almost raw. The iced tea tasted like it had been made with muddy water and was not drinkable. For the prices you pay for food at this place it should be top notch but Torrey Grill and BBQ has been the worst place we've eaten at in the last 6 months. This is a fantastic BBQ place in an unexpected location: an RV Park! The place is casual and there's a cozy fireplace. The food is simply great. The ribs are falling off the bone tender, like, literally. I picked up a piece and the end fell off! Over two visits, we had salmon, chicken, and ribs. All are good. And there are he side dishes. I wasn't expecting much, since it's a casual BBQ joint. However, all side dishes are carefully prepared and can be place on a fancy plate in a big city. The wilted kale, baked beans with chili pepper, and beets with pistachios are some of the standouts. Chef Peter changes his side dishes daily so I'm sure there are some other delicious sides I haven't tried. The dinner entrees all come with an appetizer, two sides and dessert.
