This review is two-fold. First, the Steakhouse: I had a ribeye steak with a baked potato and cooked vegetables. The steak came out well seasoned and cooked exactly the way I ordered it, the baked potato was great, and the fresh vegetables (yellow squash, young green beans, and carrots) were excellent. Cooked exactly right and not cooked to mush. My wife had the Bistro Filets with garlic shrimp. The bacon-wrapped filets were quite large and cooked medium rare exactly as ordered. The two shrimp were just okay. Our server was Amanda, and she was awesome! She just did a really good job to take good care of us. Attentive, funny, and efficient. Now the Inn review: Our King room with jetted tub was a really good room. Spacious, with a great view to the east from a small balcony. The sunrise from that balcony is awesome. We could have done without the always -on nightlight in the bathroom, which is way too bright. The air conditioner was efficient, though a little noisy. The giant jetted tub was a real treat, though. Unfortunately, it was a little bigger than their hot water supply was designed for. Still very comfortable and nice though. read more

Not much is broken at the Broken Spur. I've been staying here on and off for years. The place keeps getting better and better each time I visit! Their attention to detail is inspiring. My room was meticulously clean, and keeping in the western theme, well appointed. I wanted for nothing. Except for a peaceful night's rest. That I got. My room was quiet and the bed comfortable. Though the building was full, every room occupied, I didn't hear a sound from my neighbors. Either there's excellent insulation, or the adjacent rooms housed church mice. Not a squeak was heard. A hearty breakfast awaits after you're finished with your dreams. Take advantage of it. It'll provide the energy you'll need for the days adventures. Broken Spur will be a pleasant memory. Allow yourself this opportunity make it so. Quick Tip: I've never had a bad meal in their restaurant. Even the locals stop in. It may be a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. read more

There aren't too many good options for quality dining in Torrey, but Broken Spur is pretty good. I tried both the Smoked BBQ Brisket ($28) and the Sirloin Steak ($28). The brisket was around average in quality and the flavor was heavily reliant on the BBQ sauce (although that was quite good). It also came with veggies and potatoes on the side. The sirloin steak was also average in quality - nothing special to note. We asked for medium rare, but it was cooked more to a medium. The prices were fair considering the limited options in the area and the type of meat. The restaurant is connected to an inn and it is decorated in an old-timey western style, which I liked. The staff are friendly, although the service speed could have been a bit faster. Overall, while the quality of food was fairly average, I still enjoyed my experience, and given the limited options in Torrey (especially later at night), Broken Spur is still a solid choice. read more

We got dinner here one evening while visiting Capitol Reef National Park and it didn't disappoint. Our server was great and our food came out quite fast. They started us off with biscuits and butter. We got the beef brisket which came with coleslaw, seasonal vegetables, fries and the sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. Denied service due to presence of my service dog! Person who told us of this "policy" said pet. We calmly informed her that my dog is my service dog. She said makes no difference. Staff needs to understand they cannot deny service due to presence of a service dog. It violates the ADA. First offense can result in a $75,000 fine! read more

The ribeye was a complete disappointment. I've been looking forward to a good steak for quite some time. This was not it. Thin, overcooked, grisly. I ordered medium-rare and definitely was not. I'd say medium-well is what I received. I could cook a much better ribeye myself. In addition the vegetables which arrived with the steak were complete mush. So overdone, they looked like they'd been boiled to death. The salad substitute was small and pathetic. I rate this one of the worst restaurant ordered steaks I have ever eaten. I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant, everything from the food to the service. Simple ambiance next to the office and gift shop of the inn. Gluten free info: I informed my server Amanda (I believe) about me having Celiac, and she was able to fill me in on what I could eat. She did have to check on the ingredients of a couple things, but I just appreciated that she was willing to do so. Since it's a steakhouse, there are a lot of options here so long as you are not vegetarian/vegan. I actually had the Saturday special which was St. Louis ribs and they were some of the best ribs I've ever had. I also had the baked beans, vegetables, a baked sweet potato and a side salad w/o croutons. On a Friday night in March, Broken Spur was one of the couple of open restaurants. As a result, it had a big crowd. I admired the hustle of the wait staff and young host. i was seated within a few minutes. The server then brought out an unusual dinner bread item-- a biscuit! In Utah! I am from the south, so I know biscuits. This biscuit was light, fluffy and very good. It was worthy of bring served anywhere in the south. For dinner, I kept it simple and ordered the burger with sidewinder fries. The fries had a thickness similar to steak fries, but were curly. I wish there had been a few more because they were crispy and sufficiently salted. The burger was a shock. I ordered it medium rare and it came out juicy and flavorful. I thought is was cooked over a flame, but the server said that was not the case. That is how good it was. If you are in Torrey and want a good burger after a day at Capitol Reef, try the Broken Spur. read more

My wife and I wanted a steak and this was the closest to our hotel. I fact it is located at the broken spur inn. Had the potato skins for an appetizer. I have had them all over the country and I have to say these were the smallest I have ever had. Looked like they cut off the end of a potato and put cheese on them. They looked like stuffed mushrooms. I ordered the ribeye l, and the wife the sirloin. They cooked the perfect. They were a bit tough for an expensive steak. The taste was just average or below. In the plus side the service was excellent and the food came quickly. All in all it is not terrible but when you pay high prices you expect a little better quality. read more

Don't let appearances deceive you! This place is a diamond in the rough landscape. We were seated almost immediately and brought warm homemade biscuits to start. We ordered the loaded potato skins to start...a perfect start to the meal. Everyone ordered a different steak-all of them delicious. The Salisbury steak was especially delicious. I ordered the petit tips with garlic shrimp. The steak was perfectly cooked (medium rare). For dessert we had homemade peach cobbler, which was so good that it was practically inhaled. We just had dinner at th Broken Spur. Quaint and friendly place. They don't take reservations for such a busy place. We only had to wait about 20 min. though. The homemade biscuits are awesome! My husbands ribeye was slightly over cooked but very tasty. My filet was cooked correctly but didn't have any flavor and the bacon wasn't cooked enough. I had to pay extra to substitute a side salad for my potatoes, which I thought was ridiculous. Salads (especially side salads) are much easier to make. Overall it's a cute country restaurant, but it needs to step up its quality and service. read more

Went to the five National Parks in Utah recently. Stayed overnight at the Broken Spur Inn. Dinner was extremely disappointing. Very long wait and it was served cold. Breakfast was even a bigger disappointment. Once again, food was cold; no sterno underneath the metal pans that the food was in. Paper plates and plastic utensils. The accommodations were very nice and we enjoyed it other than the fact that the hot tub looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Do not recommend this place for any type of food and if you decide to stay there steer clear of the hot tub. read more

On Tuesday, May 20th, my husband and I felt like eating a good steak dinner after hiking all day in Capitol Reef, and that's EXACTLY what we were served at Broken Spur Inn Steakhouse. OMG! We ordered the 14 oz. ribeye to split, with loaded mashed potatoes and the steamed vegetables which come with the meal. I was hoping my smaller portion wouldn't have much GRISSLE, since I was really hungry. Neither of us was disappointed. The ribeye was cooked perfectly to our medium rare request, and there wasn't even one teensy bit of grissle in the entire steak! It was absolutely mouthwatering SCRUMPTIOUS! The loaded mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables were very tasty, our server was super sweet and attentive, and the restaurant had a cute, Old West décor. We stumbled upon this inn when looking for a place to stay in Torrey. Broken Spur is a cute little motel with lots of charm. They have stagecoach wagons to stay in, although we stayed in a room. Clean and comfortable. The steakhouse had closed a few days before and free breakfast is included with a room. Overall, a good stay. read more

I'm updating my last review. The front desk at the Broken Spur jumped into action and was able to get my double charge refunded. They went out of their way to make sure I received it and texted to follow up that I was happy with the results. Overall, the hotel and restaurant are a great place to stay and eat in Torrey. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would just advise to be careful in managing payments if you don't book directly with the hotel. read more

Very casual atmosphere. The person serving us was very pleasant despite the place seeming a bit short staffed and she looking a bit harried. However, they forgot to bring one of us a fork, and it took a bit of time to get one. To our surprise, our steak knives were quite dull, not what you expect in a "steakhouse." The place is rather noisy with no apparent sound attenuation, which made it a challenge to have a conversation at normal voice volume. The ribeye was very good, tender, and cooked as requested, and we can recommend it. However, the prime rib special was like no prime rib I've ever had before. I didn't look like a typical prime rib, and it was quite tough. Perhaps our experience with that particular entree was an anomaly, but we have to suggest avoiding it. Quickly seated. Ahi tuna salad was excellent. I liked the daikon on it. Sirloin steak was cooked nice and pink as asked and well seasoned. The mashed potatoes is also nicely seasoned. I also like the mixed vegetables. They didn't look like they were steamed in a bag or mushy like at some restaurants. Daughter did like the fries with her meal but husband and I did - they're steak fries so healthier. She did eat her chicken tenders. She got 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream.
