Tortilla Flats is awesome. We needed a place to have a private company meeting for our office staff of 8 people. I called around to every restaurant in town, but no one could accommodate us because of our small party size. Because of their previous reviews I made Tortilla Flats my last call, but I should have made them my first. Not only did they welcome our office party, but they were very patient as we had our long conversations before ordering and tended to our every need seamlessly. On top of that, the food was delivered to our table quickly after ordering, our drinks were never empty, the food was delicious and the service was charming. If i could rate the service alone I would give out 5 stars! The food on the other hand was, well, let's say maybe the cook was having a bad night. Redding, CA isn't know for fantastic Mexican food and I've enjoyed Mexican all over CA. That said, Tortilla Flats has got to be the absolute worst, not only in Mexican, but food in general; my wife and I couldn't even stomach it enough to finish. We had the shredded beef taco with chili relleno. Taco barely had any meat. Rice seemed like it had sat out for hours, very dried-out. The refried beans were almost like soup, but edible with the stale chips that tasted like they were left out on a counter from the night before. But the chili relleno... That got the prize for the most disgusting attempt at a chili relleno; terrible! The place just felt dirty. Rustic is one thing, dirty is quite another. Service was okay and very fast. The plates came out very hot (Chef Mike at his best). Save your money, unless just going there for a margarita. read more

I am really surprised to read all the terrible reviews. We've eaten there many times and mostly really like it. It's not perfect, but the service is usually pretty good. I love their chile rellenos and their flan (I like it firm like they make it). It's maybe a little over priced. I am not a salsa lover, so can't comment on that. I think the waitress costumes are really cute! Never mind the pineapple cheesecake, it's commercial. I think maybe is really depends on what you order. If NO stars was an option I d choose it. This is the absolute worst "Mexican" food I have ever had the misfortune of consuming. Their "Spanish" sauce looks like vomit it has 0 flavor. I'm still confused as to why a Mexican restaurant would call one of their sauces Spanish. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce from a can. My husband said his enchilada tasted like a microwave dinner enchilada. My chimichanga was just meh. The rice tasted old, dry, and stale. I had dinner here tonight with 3 friends. 3 out of our 4 dishes came out completely wrong, including my burrito that came out with literally nothing in it except for beans... This was very upsetting seeing as my last visit here was not much better, and this used to be my go-to Mexican restaurant in town. This is where my mother and I would go for every single one of our lunch dates. I did not eat more than 2 bites of this burrito and asked that it just be removed from the bill since it was completely wrong and not eaten. They still felt it necessary to charge me half-price for this plate for some reason. I paid $6 for 2 bites of a bean burrito... I am very sad to say that none of the 4 of us will be returning to eat here again. I don't know what happened to this place over the last year but it has just become an awful experience, every time. I now go usually 3 days a week especially since it is such a great family atmosphere and always have the sports on! The worst food I have ever eaten out. Dry, crusty rice, beans were ok, salsa not very good at all, chips thick and hard, my enchilada tasted like a tv dinner one. My daughters sauce on her bean burrito tasted like tomato sauce from a can or spaghetti sauce. Everyone kept asking if everything was good, I quietly said yes and smiled slightly, I should have been honest. i just won't ever go back. Unlike any other taco you'll find in Redding.. Homestyle, not store bought. Specifically, the fish tacos are too-die-for! Give this place a try. This was the worst "mexican restaurant" to eat at. First, the waitress didn't even smile and hardly acknowledged me and my boyfriend when we entered. Then she threw out menus on the table. The second waitress was nicer but never asked how our food was. The food was beyond terrible. I got a chile rellano and it was the most disgusting, bland thing I'd ever tried. The chile itself was a pale green color with no flavor or spice. The sauce tasted like watery pasta or lasagna sauce. My boyfriend thought it tasted like fish. His burrito tasted hard and crunchy and the beans were dried out. The chips were stale and some of them were burnt. The atmosphere was uncomfortable and it was dark inside and the whole place smelled musty or moldy. Nobody said anything to us as we left. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Terrible terrible terrible... I don't know why I keep going back expecting something better. I've gone to this restaurant since I was a little girl. It was wonderful back in the day. My special nachos was gross. The beans on the bottom were all crusty and my daughters quesadilla had been sitting in the window for so long that her fries were floppy and full or grease and the cheese had hardened. We were sat right outside the party room in the back. There was a really big and loud party going on. To be fair, the owner came over and tried to make it right. She took off the nachos from our bill and re made my daughters quesadilla and apologized. A group of us went to lunch here. Nobody in the group had eaten here before. I have to say this is the worst mexican food I have ever eaten. I have eaten at a lot of mexican places throughout the years; even Mexico itself. I ordered chicken taco and enchilada. The chicken didn't look or taste like chicken. It was ground up like some kind of processed cheap meat. I actually had to take it out, and only eat the taco shell. The beans were good, and the chips and salsa was good. No one cared for their meal. One of us actually ordered chicken strips, and was questioned by the waitress in a non professional way about the order. Then when she received her lunch she actually received the kids meal. The other waitress's nose was running the whole time, and it wasn't very appetizing hearing her constantly sniff the whole time she was serving us. Sorry bad experience and food. read more

My Friends and I were in Redding for a Conference and tortilla flats was close to the meeting so we went there not once but twice. the First time wasn't bad, so we thought we would go again BAD IDEA!!!! As we were sitting waiting for the waitress enjoying our chips and salsa I thought I seen something out of the corner of my eye and thought maybe I was just seeing thing but it happened again so this time I turned my head to look at the fake fireplace and yeap I was seeing something from the corner of my eye it was a mouse. I looked at my friends and said you are not going to believe this but I just seen a mouse so they looked at the same place and yes it came out again.. We called the owner over and we were shocked at her response, she said " well what should I do about it?" REALLY First lady set a couple traps, call someone to handle it.. Then she said something about we all have mice in our homes, Ewwww... Not what I wanted to hear.. So we didn't order anything we left the restaurant to NEVER return again.. Went for the first time today. Worst decision I've made in a long time. Food was horrible. If you think about going here, grab a $1.00 frozen meal from the grocery store instead.
