Like many other carbo-loaders, we came here the night before the Solvang half marathon to feast on pasta, focaccia and the all-important aerobic-fueling greens. My fellow runner had the cacio e pepe which was a bit of a sloppy mess but clearly this didn't affect his time as he ran a sub 2 hour half. I chose the lasagna which was hearty, filling, tomatoey and chewy and I'm pretty sure this is how I finished the race even without training. Our arugula salads were plentiful and tasty. One star taken away for the wait staff that disappeared midway through the meal (phone fight with her boyfriend perhaps?) and the aforementioned runny pasta. Otherwise 10/10 would recommend for all the runners out there. read more

If I had to define "tourist trap," this would be my prime example. Service: We arrived at the restaurant at 5 pm; only one group was seated inside, and they said it would be a 2-hour wait for us to get inside seating. It was chilly but they had heat lamps, so we agreed to sit outside. One of the lamps was a bit far from us, so we asked if we could get it moved closer. Because it would require them turning off the lamp, and then waiting a little while before rolling it closer, our server asked, "Are you sure that's what you want?" as if the request was unreasonable. Yes, we did, so she complied. During our time there she acted as if we had the plague, taking our order from a 5-foot distance. She finally stopped serving us altogether and the host took over; she was "too busy" serving the tables inside (three groups by now). Food: We order the beet and burrata salad, two pizzas, and spaghetti and meatballs. But, as the server pointed out, the meatballs were WITHOUT pasta, and so spaghetti would be an additional $10. I felt like we were locked in at that point and we needed to eat, so I agreed. The sauce was very basic and tasted like Ragu and the pasta was overcooked. The meatballs were ok, nothing special. The beet salad was also ok, but the beets were clearly canned. Pizza was decent, fortunately. We also requested hot water for my mom, but the server said that they couldn't do that, that they only served tea. Ok. All of this, with tip, was about $110. If you are coming here with a family, I would avoid doing so. read more

I came here in December 2023 but just found the receipt and had to leave a review. This is an unassuming authentic Italian restaurant in the back of a plaza in Solvang. It is just around the corner from the Mermaid statute and probably a better time! We arrived after having a long wait and a disappointing dinner at a Danish restaurant nearby. It was late, but we walked by and thought, a slice of pizza would be nice and they seated us right away. We sat at the bar, the kitchen is open, bustling, the owner is sipping on wine and working with his staff. Its a fun and lively environment. We ordered the Quattro Stagioni, Polpette Al Sugo, and their Tiramisu - so basically pizza, meatballs, and tiramisu. The pizza was so crispy and flavorful, the meatballs were so so delicious and cheesy, the tiramisu was perfect and not too sweet. The owner was lovely and chatted with us about how he ended up here in Solvang and opened this shop. Everything, including dessert, is made in house and he just has a electric oven that he makes pasta, pizzas, meatballs, and sometimes other dinners for parties. Overall our dinner here made our stay in Solvang much nicer and a fun memory. I would return here in a heartbeat if I return to Solvang! read more

The food was just okay but the service was BAD, and reading a few other select reviews, I don't think they care at all either. My partner and I stopped by for dinner since they were one of the few spots that were open late-ish (past 6pm) in the Solvang area. We were the only queer couple there that night and we're both people of color. The staff didn't make an effort for us to feel welcomed and didn't speak to us outside of just taking our orders/refilling water/etc. They were noticeably more conversational with and warmer towards others in the restaurant (presumably regulars and yes, caucasian). Their bruschetta comes in a sort of baked pizza pie/flatbread form with tossed/diced tomatoes on top. My partner noticed a family on another table order the bruschetta as well, which was the same size as ours, but they got way more tomatoes on it than ours. It was giving very much homophobic and racial micro aggressions, but at least we know which spot to tell friends and family to steer clear of when they're up here in the future. Overall, if you're looking for way better service and a genuinely more charming vibe than what's just slapped onto their restaurant bio, save your coins for somewhere else! read more

Not only were we made to wait nearly 10 minutes to be attended to by a hostess, they couldn't find our reservation and would only seat us at the bar, citing incoming reservations. My family took a Spring Break trip to Solvang, and my wife and I managed to sneak away from the kids for a couple of nights. Both times, we found ourselves back at Toscana--and for good reason. This charming, tucked-away Italian restaurant is truly a hidden gem. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. But what made our experience unforgettable was the outstanding service. Huge shoutout to Jessica and Itzel, our servers on both nights. They were warm, knowledgeable, and made fantastic recommendations for food, drinks, and dessert. From the very moment we stepped into the restaurant, I felt like I was home. The place itself was so inviting and decorated beautifully. I'm Italian and so is the chef. He greeted each of us as if we were his dear friends. The server was friendly, kind, and willing to help in every way possible. Now for the food..... (and please note, my mom was the best Italian cook EVER, so it's kind of hard to please me at times) but..... as we say in Italian, "Oh mio Dio!". The pizzas were full of flavor and perfectly baked. The pasta alla salsa Rosa was insanely delicious. One of our friends had the eggplant parmigiana (he orders it at every Italian restaurant we go to) and he said it was the best he's ever had! Another friend ordered the mushroom ravioli and said it was one of the best meals he's had in a while. Chef was able to come over to the table and share his story of starting his business in Solvang and how grateful he was to the many people who support him in the early days. For COVID safety purposes, only outdoor seating is permitted, servers/patrons must wear masks, and tables are sanitized thoroughly between diners. Even with distancing in place, we still had a wonderful experience here. SOLE PICCATA: Beautifully seasoned + perfectly tender. Comes with a gratuitous helping of baked vegetables. TOSCANA (substituting porchetta for mushroom): Of course their namesake pizza is the best thing on the menu. This was unbelievably good, even as a vegetarian pie (the staff graciously allowed us to swap out the meat). My bf and I were obsessed with how velvety the cheese was on the thin, soft crust. With the truffle oil + arugula, the Toscana was the highlight of our night. VALENTINE'S DAY SPECIAL: I really don't remember what this was called, I think a sponge cake + mascarpone + berry puree? Very cute restaurant. It's got a comfortable feel. The service was lacking, apparently the waitress was the only one for the entire restaurant. She appeared very overworked. Not unfriendly but not great. They were "out of bread" which I guess happens, but was disappointing. The house Cabernet was nice. Their margaritas were ok at best, not worth 15 dollars. The food was rough, I ordered the cacio e pepe it was gelatinous blob the parts of the sauce that were not congealed were tasty, but the pasta was way over cooked and the sauce was the consistency of school glue. It was difficult to eat and I didn't finish it. Should have sent it back, but I didn't. We also order meatballs, they were actually tasty and the sauce was good. Desert was tiramisu, it was the best part of the meal. I hope it was just an off night for them. I wish I had tried the pizzas, those looked quite good. Made a reservation for 1 on their website. In the reservation system you have to pick where you want to sit, bar main dining room, etc.... I picked main dining room because I don't drink. My reservation was excepted. When I showed up, i was told I didn't have a reservation, then she looked and saw that I did have the reservation. But, I was told I could only sit at the bar because they didn't have a table for 1 and the only small table was reserved. There were several tables open with nobody seating at them but they told me there wasn't a table for 1. No apology or anything they just had me leave unless I would sit at the bar. We had a fantastic first visit to Toscana last night. We went for our 20 yr Anniversary. It has such a cute atmosphere from the beautiful outside dinner and quaint and cozy inside. Our waitress(sorry forgot her name ugh) was the best! So helpful with suggestions on food & wine. They were out of their bread/focaccia but started with their yummy bruschetta. It was a larger round pizza type with yummy fresh tomatoes. I had the pasta Rosa, creamy red sauce and my hubby had the braised beef ravioli, both delicious! Came here right when it openned, ordered food and others got their food before us. They ONLY had 2 pasta options, so DO NOT come here for pasta dinners. They claim to be authentic Italian, but olive oil was cheap and bland. Be prepared to pay $7 for bland bread and forget about good customer service, because it's unseen here! My family went to this restaurant together and all of the food came out except for my father's. The waitress told us "we gave your food to another table, but we're making yours now." We all finished eating and were still waiting for my dad's food. When we inquired again, the waitress said "trust me it will be worth it." The food was good, but it's not worth it when our family doesn't get to eat together! There was no apology and overall she was rude. The bill came and no competition for the late meal that my father ate alone. We definitely did not tip her and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant because of this experience. This place is a joke in terms of hosting. We get there at 8:50 when it says it closes at 9:30. We arrive only to be told to step outside for the host. We walk outside WITH the host only for the host to turn around and say we're are closed. The place closes at 9:30.... Why not tell us originally that the place is closed. Why did the host have to tell us to walk back outside when they just could have told us the it's closed? Toscana should update their hours as well. Decided to go to here based on the reviews and the recommendations of where we were staying. We made a reservation the day before to make sure we were able to be seated. Got there at our reservation time and were seated promptly, although directly in the doorway so everyone coming in and out of the restaurant as well as the servers going in and out were continually walking by. There is no children's menu hence no children's drinks. One size fits all. The servers seemed very interested in catering to the locals that were there chatting them up and giving them prompt service. Us...not so much. I had ordered the focaccia to come out first. Which it didn't. I understand that it is fresher baked, but it literally came out after all the rest of the food. Waitress's comment was... "Oh yeah you wanted that out first." My husband had ordered an americano when we ordered drinks initially and never got it. It terms of value I just don't see it. My husband got 5 ravoli for $35, but my son and I split a whole pizza for $27. Overall the food was good, not great., but service plus value made for the 3 star rating. read more

What a delightful courteous service especially during these tedious times of COVID. Enjoying my Italian meal under the stars reminded me of my time in Italy. The wine brought tears to my eyes (check out the bottle) yes, from Italy to find this treat in the heart of The CA coastal wine community is a bold move on the owners to ensure the meal was a culinary feast. The main course for each of the revelers was a cacophony of aromas that taunted one to taste the other's choice. While thinking to taste a scallop I found a fork centimeters from my hand. The point was taken. My serving of lasagna was more than filling and this piggy realizing we were walking back to our hotel to walk it off I went for it.
