We decided to spend Fourth of July weekend in Solvang. River Grill was highly recommended to us by our server at SunStone winery. We always love checking out where the locals like to go and so happy we did. The location is just outside of downtown Solvang... Less than five minutes by car. I didn't know such a beautiful golf course was right next to us, the restaurant had an outdoor patio that overlooked the beautiful golf course and the ambience was awesome. There were so many things on the menu that look delicious and I got to try so many different things because we all ordered something different. I was boring and ordered a basic breakfast, but the bacon was one of the most delicious ones I've had. I asked for extra crispy hash brown, and they did a great job. My significant other ordered a burger and it was to die for, I'm blanking on the name of the burger, but it had bacon, jalapeño aioli and came with the best side of onion rings. If you love onion rings, you should order it. My other friend had the French dip and that too was delicious, and this horseradish aïoli that it came with was amazing. And lastly, we also tried the bison chili which was tasty as well. The prices were quite reasonable. The server was great, and our overall experience was just enjoyable and we look forward to going back. Plenty of free parking in their private lot. read more

In Solvang for day, but the crowds in town have made finding a parking space difficult? On top of that it's lunchtime and you're hungry...well, on the outskirts of town is the River Grill At the Alisal (River Golf Course). Yes, my dear Yelp Review Readers, here you will find plenty of parking and the River Grill with striking overviews of the River (Golf) Course. The restaurant itself is fashioned in a "western" theme style, which is apropos since it is affiliated with the more famously known Alisal Ranch (a 10K+ acre California luxury Dude Ranch). The restaurant is spacious...plenty of tables and seating both indoor and outdoor. We were greeted as we entered the establishment and seated immediately. It was around 1:30pm and only two other tables inside and two tables outside the restaurant had diners. Our waitress was quick to hand us menus and very attentive in her customer service throughout our meal. I believe the Manager or Assistant Manager did a "table touch" and was very friendly in offering what ever assistance might be needed. The Menu (see pictures) wasn't overly expansive but offered a decent selection of offerings that would seem appropriate in satisfying a wide variety of patrons. After some conversation our Server took our order: Drinks - Watermelon Margarita (5/5) Appetizers (For the Table) - Crispy Brussel Sprouts (4/5), Smoked Chicken Wings (2/5...sadly "fried", bland and not moist under the "fried crust coating") and one of the offered "specials", the Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad (5/5). Mains - Vaquero Burger (4/5 ...it "came" with the "right stuff" on it) with a side Salad, Bison Chile (4/5...if you like chile , this is a good bet), and from the Breakfast Menu, served all day on weekends, River Grill Eggs Benedict (5/5...exactly what one would expect). There was plenty of leftover food to take home. It was a decent meal...but nothing was a "standout" and none of the items served connected in anyway to Solvang's theme (as would have been the case,if we ate at one of the restaurants in town). The service here was excellent, and it's such a peaceful spot to enjoy a meal when you want to relax outdoors. Sitting outside with views of the beautiful green golf course made the whole experience feel calm and refreshing. Our server was incredibly kind and attentive throughout the meal. I felt a little bad asking for water without ice since I'm not a fan of iced water, but she was so accommodating and even brought me a special room-temperature refill without hesitation. Little touches like that really stood out. When ordering, I couldn't decide between fries or onion rings for my side, and she happily suggested doing half and half, which I really appreciated. The burger itself was delicious, juicy, and full of flavor. They even cut the burger in half and split the sides onto separate plates for us, which felt very thoughtful and made sharing so much easier. Both the fries and onion rings were perfectly cooked -- crispy, well-seasoned, and incredibly satisfying. During a wine tasting we were talking about how busy all the Solvang restaurants were at breakfast and the lady running the tasting recommended this spot. Location wise it wasn't far at all from the "main drag" in Solvang but vibe wise it was worlds away - peaceful and beautiful and no crowds! The rustically designed restaurant is on a golf course and has lovely views. Service was fast, friendly and helpful. My French Toast was delicious. It was pouring when we arrived for breakfast but we felt so welcomed when we walked in that the weather outside didn't matter anymore. Our server was so nice and friendly and the restaurant was fully decked out with wonderfully festive Christmas decorations too! I got the veggie omelette with hash browns and a fruit cup and he got the Alisal breakfast burrito w fruit cup. Everything was delicious and the portions were quite generous too so one of us took the leftovers to go. We needed it to be a very short and quick visit so we truly appreciated their fast and efficient service. The next time we're in the area, I definitely want to go back to enjoy outdoor dining on their patio if the weather cooperates with our next trip. I hope you consider paying them a visit! The beautiful setting here on the golf course really is relaxing after a hectic drive through downtown Solvang. It is probably one of the main attractions of this grill. We came on an overcast, rainy day in the middle of the week for my husband's birthday and sat inside for the first time. We got a window table with the same great view that you get outside. The overcast skies didn't dampen our spirits, and we ordered right away from the menu. I got my favorite Southwestern salad, that comes with a little cornbread muffin, and my husband got a burger with onion rings. The service was very friendly and welcoming, and the place was not too crowded. We have always had to wait for a table when we arrive on a weekend. The food came out quickly. I really enjoy the southwestern flavors of the substantial salad, with a mildly spicy dressing on the side. My husband's burger was amply well done, and he devoured it. Food was good our salad was fresh and the steak was seasoned and cooked well, the vaquero burger with fries was delicious! We also ordered a mimosa which we weren't a fan of because it was missing a little bit of orange juice too strong for a mimosa. The place overall was clean and the restroom was very put together. Our server was very attentive, helpful and kind. This restaurant is dog friendly at the outdoor area which we enjoyed with the beautiful and relaxing scenery. The con we had was that the wait time was a little too long and the umbrellas were too close and not placed well with the tables and seating, we experienced someone's table get knocked from it and glass shattered over a customer which is a safety issue they can fix. Came to the River Grill for the last day of restaurant week! My mom and I had been checking out the River Grill for restaurant week since before it began but didn't make it until the last day. The River Grill itself is very nice! Lots of windows to let in natural light with a view that overlooks the hills and golf course. We were brought some water not long after being seated and had our order taken. On this day, my mom and I decided to split our order! To start, we got the Harvest Salad. It had plenty of toppings that created a variety of flavors and textures that surprisingly made for a somewhat unique salad experience. It was very delicious. For the main course, my mom and I opted for the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich. Since I don't eat red meat, I asked if the bacon could be put on the side and they kindly accommodated the request. Honestly the sandwich was sooooo good! I'm definitely a sandwich enthusiast and this one hit every mark for me. The bread was warm and toasted, the chicken was still steaming from being so fresh out of the kitchen, and there was a perfect ratio of all of the toppings to create a perfect sandwich moment. I got the sauce all over my hands in my enthusiasm for consuming it. For dessert, a Smores Brownie Sundae was the finisher. It was very delicious! My mom is very hit or miss with desserts, since she doesn't like overly sweet things, but agreed that this one was perfect! The marshmallow was toasted and gooey, the brownie was fudgey, and the cold vanilla ice cream perfectly brought everything together. Overall, I had a really good experience at the River Grill. Arrived at 9 AM and it was pretty empty. By the time we left it was pretty busy with people sitting outside as well. Service was great! The Golfer's Special was a filling breakfast having both pancakes for something sweet and the standard egg/sausage/hashbrown. I visited on 12/21/24. We usually dine at Paulas Pancakes but their waitlist was closed. This place was recommend by a local store owner he frequents this establishmentand & his daughter got married here. With such high praise we were really excited to try this place out. I was disappointed when I received my eggs benedict with a broken hollandaise sauce. Unfortunately it gave my meal a grainy texture on top of that the Canadian bacon was burnt and tough. My husband ordered a sandwich his mean taste fine. The view was beautiful. The service was really slow. I am so glad that the River Grill is open again. The food is good, and the view and service are great. It is really a hidden treasure away from all the tourism in town. It is great any time of day. I hope they start the music evenings again next summer. They had stopped for some time and where only open for private events. We went to the River Grill for brunch on Mother's Day to celebrate. Unfortunately, our food came out over an hour after we placed our order, and it all came out cold. We understand that it was probably very busy in the kitchen since it was Mother's Day, but we saw another large party sit down after us, and was done eating and leaving before we even got our food. After my dad went inside to see where our food was, the team, starting to bring our food out one by one. The manager was helping to bring out our food and made us feel a little uncomfortable as we wasn't wearing his mask while serving us. He had a mask around his neck, but it was not covering his mouth or nose. Given all this, I am still giving them 4 stars because they definitely made us as customers happy in the end by making it up to us. read more

We are both huge fans of golf course food and will go out of our way to eat at a golf course. This place didn't disappoint--the French dip sandwich is second only to the one at The Swiss in Santa Maria. This is almost as good as that one. Putting it on garlic bread is very odd but turns out to be a genius idea. I would definitely come here again. Onion rings were my favorite preparation--very thinly beer battered. My companion said the fish tacos were very fresh, and that the French fries were incredibly well seasoned and crispy. I tried them and can attest to that as well. Came here for a large family brunch. 15 adults, 5 kids. The staff and servers here were wonderful, extremely patient and helpful. The mrs asked about their breakfast burrito, which was off menu, and the guy was like, sure, no worries mate. The burrito was bigger than her head, so she was pleased. I had the two eggs and hash browns, which was also good, and large. We sat on the patio overlooking the mountains which was quite scenic.
