I brought in a new car to have it ceramic coated and of course it looked beautiful when it came out. As a part of the work they also did the brake calipers and did an off-wheel coating the wheels also. A task you often have to ask to be done and then have to pay extra for. Not here, it was part of what they do. But that is not the real reason I'm writing this review. My wife brought me to the shop in her Lexus which is a 2011 Lexus (almost 10 year old car) with just under 200,000 miles on it. While we did take good care of it, nonetheless it clearly showed its age, especially on the leather seats which were dirty and had some scratches on them. Upon seeing the before/after pictures on Total Recon's web site, I asked if they could fix this car up, not really knowing what I was asking for. They said "yes" and I took this car in for a total reconditioning. I, and everyone I have shown the car to afterwards are totally amazed. We bought a Groupon for this place. Not that it did us much good as we were up charged to the tube of $200. But my bigger complaint is that this guy doesn't answer the phone. I called periodically over the course of a month and a half and was never successful. So I eventually drove over in person and scheduled my cleaning for a month out. Also, really not a friendly guy. I wish he'd at least pretend to care about costumer service just a little bit. However, our car came back beautiful. Really great work. With an 11 am appointment, I arrive at 11:08 and wonder around looking for the store front ( it's in a parking lot, not street facing), the door is locked. At 11:12 I call the company, they have moved onto another appointment. My appointment was for a 2 hour service. Sounds like double booking to me! Stay away! My experience with Total Recon started off okay as they were able to fit me in to their schedule since my Groupon was expiring. Unfortunately, both when I called and when I dropped off my vehicle they told me there was an additional $50.00 fee for pet hair, which is completely understandable. However, I wasn't made aware that the additional $50 pet hair removal charge was only for partial-pet hair removal. As it turns out, for $100, they would have fully removed the pet hair; I would have gladly paid the extra amount if it would have meant that they would have done a decent job of removing the pet hair. My appointment was Monday and this morning (Thursday) I got in my vehicle to run an errand and that's when I realized there was still -a lot- of pet hair. I called and spoke with an employee/owner (uncertain), explained the issue, and gave them the feedback that they really should inform customers when booking the appt. that there are two price options regarding pet hair (don't just mention that there's a "minimum" $50 pet hair fee and then not explain that this actually means something regarding the quality of the service and not mention that there actually is another price option which provides a thorough service); the employee became argumentative, which was simply unprofessional. He stated that they told me there was a "minimum" $50.00 pet hair fee and I responded that again, they never told me that this $50.00 fee only covered pet hair being partially removed (neither when I called to book the appt. nor when I dropped my vehicle off), and they never let me know that there was some other option available which would mean they would do a better job at removing the pet hair. Had they simply let me know, I would have opted for the $100 fee to remove the pet hair instead of spending the $50.00 & getting little in return. I asked for a partial refund & the employee became defensive & told me the only option was to bring the vehicle back and they'd "take a look at it." Truly, the disappointment with the amount of pet hair left behind in my vehicle after the cleaning wasn't the biggest deal/them not informing me what the "minimum" $50.00 meant -- what -really- bothered me (and the reason I'm writing this review) was the rudeness of the employee; I live 45 minutes away & don't have the availability to just go back to Laurel, MD again. Instead of being understanding in any way (even a simple apology & a hey, thanks for your feedback would have been totally good) to my dismay, the employee challenged/questioned me, saying that my location was not 45 minutes away. Whether he wanted to believe it or not, with traffic it indeed took me 45 minutes to get to Laurel. I couldn't believe how rude that was. He also criticized me (and no I'm not misinterpreting that) that I didn't inspect my vehicle as soon as I picked it up-my appt. was on Monday at 3:00 PM, the cleaning took 3 hours, and I got back to the shop to pick it up as it was closing at 6:00 PM. I literally got in my vehicle, got on a conference call for work, and drove straight home and that was that; I honestly didn't think to inspect it, as I've had interior detailing done in the past and never had any issues. I didn't get back in my vehicle until this morning (Thursday). But either way, I really shouldn't have had to explain to this person why I hadn't inspected my vehicle right away, but here we are. Anyways, this afternoon (Thursday) I went to my vehicle & noticed that not only was there still a lot of pet hair, but there were numerous spots that still had crumbs and debris such as the floor in the back (driver's side), center console area, cup holder area, car door storage areas on the driver's side front as well as passenger side back, etc. It was obvious they did not even vacuum these areas - I called back to relay these add'l concerns and the employee seemed obviously annoyed and unfortunately was again argumentative; I offered to send photos and he wasn't interested, instead giving me the only option to bring it back to their shop in Laurel. All of this to say, I wasn't going to write a review about the pet hair issues until I realized that they didn't even do a good job in general, but most importantly, their customer service skills were so sorely lacking. It's interesting that on the phone, during my second negative interaction with the employee, I mentioned that I felt I needed to write a review of my disappointing and frustrating experience and he stated something like "well you were going to anyway." If that person is reading this, please know that I actually wasn't going to write a review up until that point; the level of rudeness and poor customer service needs to be relayed. I truly hope they use my feedback to be clearer and much more professional with customers moving forward. Update: I read the owner's response & there are numerous inaccuracies. No further questions. On the day of the appointment, without even inspecting the car, they insisted we pay an additional $75 pet hair fee... Our dog has never riden in that car as we explained. No dog hair in the car whatsoever. They refused to detail our car without us paying an extra $75 simply because my wife had stated on the phone that we own a dog. Bought an online deal through living social/groupon for Interior Detail and Exterior Wash and they only did the interior. I paid extra for the dog hair (75.00) and gave tip not knowing that they didn't wash my vehicle. He did ask if i wanted it washed because it already looks clean and I did say yes. I did wash it the week prior but it was still dirty and I paid for a service. All that dog slobber and bird poop stayed, so I had to take it someplace else to get washed. I know that groupons and other vendors offer great prices but I didn't realize that meant I wouldn't get what the deal had offered. Three stars or less for service (also had powder from cleaning material in back seat near my feet mats and back vinyl area wasn't wiped down at all) still give four stars as i had to cancel my original appointment on one occasion and they allowed me to reschedule and because it's a local business. 2nd review: Thank you for the offer! I had my small SUV detailed by Auto Recon and it was exactly what I was looking for. When I called to schedule my appointment, he asked about dog hair in the vehicle (which I definitely had) and let me know up front that there would be an additional charge, which I expected. When I arrived for my appointment, he started working on my car right away. It took about 2 hours total, and I swear he must've gotten every single dog hair out of that car! It looks WAY better than I had expected. He did a fantastic job, the price was great, and there is a small waiting area with WiFi that I was able to sit in and work while I waited. I would recommend this place 10/10 and have already told him that I'm bringing my husband's car in the next month or two. Ive always taken so much pride in my car, but after becoming involved in community mutual aid, my car got used for supplies on a regular basis and quickly got dirty and embarrassing. Awesome experience with Total Recon. Called to ask if they could buff off a scratch on my car. Told me to come in so they can check it out anytime. Arrived at Total Recon, they assessed the scratch and estimated a labor time of 30 minutes. Car was done in less then 30 minutes and they have a nice waiting room with free wifi and a tv! Owner explain that since they couldn't completed buff out the scratch due the paint being metallic and going down to the metal. That he would not charge full price for the service, and discounted the price for me. They recommend that I go to the local car dealer to get some touch up paint to cover the metal to avoid corrosion. When I told him I had the paint in the car. The worker went the extra mile and touched up the scratch that reach down to the metal without me asking! They also do car washes and detailing. We had an 8 AM appointment, which you arrived at exactly 8:11 AM for. Completely unprofessional that the shop was not opened when the appointment was scheduled. On the original phone call I agreed, the coupon was expired and I did call to ask what the ramification were and if it would still be honored. We agreed to pay the shortfall price difference between the monetary value of the Groupon. Understand that if we do not use the Groupon he doesn't see any money for it anyways, so for him it is still business. So accepting an old coupon isn't some charity, he still get the money from Groupon and the monetary windfall difference. My wife decided not to do the interior because you quoted an extra $100 dollars for pet hair. So she decided to get an exterior wash and wax and pay the difference. The price on your web site for a Standard SUV or Smaller is $99 dollars. You quoted her a price of $199. From your website 4-Door Sedan/Standard SUV/Crossover or Smaller $99 Over the phone you claimed it was for clay or prep (from your website it starts at $50 dollars). I said well we can just not do the clay piece since it was costing us $100 dollars (Odd the exact amount for the pet hair, strange coincidence). You said the service had already begun (reminder you didn't arrive at your store until (8:11 and in your call was at 8:22 and you stated the clay process had already started, which is complete bull, the car had been rinsed off and that was it). When you should clay a vehicle from the detail experts, after a good wash. If it takes 11 minutes for a good wash, maybe we need to redefine what that process is. The long and short of it, you were attempting to price gouge 100 extra dollars out of us to make up the shortfall for the Groupon coupon. I opted to surrender the money for the Groupon and cut my losses instead of give one more penny to an unsavory business. Which I might add you did cash out to Groupon for what amounted to 11 minutes of "work" The worse part about the price gouging is that since we are already into Groupon for $99 dollars you just believe folks are going to pay the price gouge up, since if we don't agree we lose out on the money to Groupon. Overall, I hope you enjoy the 60-70 dollars of the cut that Groupon gave you for the 11 minutes of work you did. Also, just wanting to note that I walked away from $99 I already spent at Groupon for no return, I think that contradicts any statement about wanting something for free. I was recommended to this business through yelp by the request a quote feature. The owner replied right away and was helpful in accommodating to my availability. My XC60 was treated to a wash, wax and inside vacuum for total of $124 plus $20 tip. Note that the inside of my vehicle was not very dirty nor do I have pet hair. They did a great job on the outside overall as the work is done purely by hand. Some tips to make this business 5 stars. As my son and I waited in the lobby area we could still hear the conversation from outside of the two people working on my vehicle and it was filled with expletives. This did not make for a pleasant experience, so the workers need to understand the conversation carries and monitor their language to that of a professional setting. Second point of advice comes from when I already left and continued to assess my vehicle. The inside of the central cup holders had not been vacuumed. There was still debris inside :( not sure if this area is part of the standard places where they vacuum but it should be. It's a 2minute process to vacuum this area and for the amount being paid it was also part of my expectations so perhaps this was an oversight. But it's something so small and a quick fix that left me with a less than optimal experience overall. read more

My car was in desperate need of an extreme interior detail. There was a huge stain on the front seat that I thought didn't have a chance getting completely removed. I chanced this place from a groupon. I knew it was going to take several hours and sadly I did not have extra ride. They do have a waiting room which I didn't see since I ended up hanging out at the cafe across the street. Day estimated about 5 hours to get the job done. Showed up 4.5hrs into it and it was pretty much done. Day did a fantastic job scrubbing those seats and sides! He even offered for me to come back w/o a charge if the stain came back after the seats completely dried. I was just super impressed how clean the inside looked! My main concerns was anything covered in fabric in which he did a fantastic job! If I really wanted to nitpick, the dashboard where my speedometer stuff still looked a bit dirty and since they had my ER brake on during the cleaning, the base of it was still dirty when I set it back down. The service started off on a bad note from the beginning. Gentleman was not ready to service the car at the time we scheduled. Argumentative, rude and short. When we picked the car up we learned he was not willing to honor the Groupon he himself posted. He told my husband that "had he known we were using a Groupon he wouldn't have even scheduled us today!" Professional. Dude is money hungry and easily angered. $100 for a spotty wash and wax with no interior vacuum. I have him on video yelling (maskless) at my husband that "wash and wax on the Groupon is different than the wash and wax service on his website!" Because that's transparent and reasonable, right? We were planning to pay for my husband's car to be serviced in addition to the half ass job on my car but no way will we give another dime to him. Be prepared to be nickled and dimed after supporting a black business, even when you comb through his website for what you're looking for. I would be hesitant to have him service the inside of your vehicle as he believes in berating customers without wearing a mask. BEWARE. Edited to respond to Damon's inaccuracies: My husband called the police. The police officer gave my husband his brother's business card for a more reputable detailing company. Police officer clarified owners have a right to refuse coupons which is why we had to pay. It was inappropriate and unprofessional for you to cry about your 5 kids and needing to put food on the table as a means to justify coupon refusal. A better practice would've been "I'm sorry there's miscommunication. Although I stick by my [inaccurate] price, I'd like to keep you as a customer. Can I offer _____ at your next service?" Instead you saw me recording and got upset. The police officer talked to my husband at length following he situation as said this has happened at your business before. Officer told my husband his right to contest it in court which I counseled against after your sob story about your kids and food. You asked the make and model of the vehicle. We told you the make and model of the vehicle. Because you were unfamiliar it had a folding third row seat you did try to charge more. A Ford Explorer is a common car, and we don't even have the XLT. Perhaps you should've asked if it had a folding third row seat. The fact you didn't clean the inside of the car shouldn't have caused you to try to price gauge -- the body is the same!! You are money hungry and proving my point even more. Car was dropped off at 3 pm where you were NOT ready for intake. My husband needed to wait. No big deal at first until the shenanigans you pulled at the end. Of course it was ready on time at 5 pm, you did bare minimum work. My husband was not yelling as the 5 minute video I've posted to Facebook shows. You and your Napoleon complex were very upset at the recording and can be heard and seen yelling and standing on your tippy toes maskless. I had my car detailed while working from home today! GO me - in both respects. Okay, let me start off my saying I don't wash my car. I know, I know - trife right, but heck - I am a busy woman and the rain does me right. At any rate, my car was not only looking awful on the outside, but the inside was just ugghh. Thus, I enlisted the help of total recon. My appointment was for 9 -10 am and I got a text at 9:04 AM. At 9:10 AM, I was opening my garage for the 2 person crew. They spent approximately 3+ hours on basically restoring my baby(how can I be affectionate when I treated her sooo very bad) to pristine condition. Rugs clean as a whistle and now the 3 second rule may be applicable(may is the operative word). It's was Snomaggedon this past week....and tomorrow will be in the 40, leading to the 60s the next two days SO I'm trying to get a jump start on the line wrapped around my regular wash place. I ran across an advertisement on FB and decided to walk-in. I pulled in around 530pm on a Friday night, I asked about getting my car washed and was sheepishly anticipating they would be booked with appointments. The nice young man who approached my car gave me a brief overview of the services I could get here. I told him a basic wash would be fine and that FB ad said walk-ins were acceptable for a basic wash. He confirmed and said I could be serviced shortly. The young man escorted me to the customer waiting room...equipped with a kuerig, a couch and seat, a flat screen TV for entertainment. He also provided me with the wi-fi code, remote, and a business card to review their website. I definitely felt welcomed....glad to be inside and away from the 35 degree weather...and treated as if they had no other customers. In about 45 mins my car, Kona, was completely clean. I did a thorough inspection. The wheels looked absolutely fantastic! Body was shining, they vacuumed the inside. I was impressed. So I used to bring 2 cars by this place because they do excellent work. I scheduled twice and had to cancel twice due to a family emergency. The 2nd time I cancelled I was ready to reschedule. I was told explicitly to call the day of that I want the service done. Which seems odd since I was ready to reschedule at the time. And also places are booked when scheduling same day. Today I called and left a voicemail and email. The response I got (email) was that they are booked and the next available is Wednesday. No thank you. Even though the job is outstanding, customer service is just nonexistent. I give 2 stars only because they allowed the groupon rate. But that's the end of the road for me. Wow!...just wow! I hired Total Recon for a "Quick Detail" while I was at work. When I got home, the car looked absolutely amazing. Better than it has ever looked, and I'm the second owner. He went the extra mile in every instance. From cleaning it top to bottom, inside and out, but even polishing off a small paint mark left by an inconsiderate person that had opened their door into my car. I cracked my passenger side view mirror and paid less in total parts and labor then what I would've paid with just the mirror online. It took not even 5 minutes to replace. Damon and Jamaal are THE best!! I mentioned my brake fluid and brakes so they checked my fluids and advised me of what was wrong with my brakes and the most cost effective way of getting them fixed as well as suggestive car care...for free!! No sales pitches, no catches, no gimmicks, or tricks. These guys are genuinely about helping you and your car. So far so good and I can't wait to post another awesome review. I got the exterior/interior package today for my wife. I have never gotten anything like this before, and I'm blown away at how clean they got the car. The car is cleaner than when she bought it from Carmax 6 years ago (and honestly, that's last time it's been cleaned.)
