I needed a bottle of French Alsace Riesling for my Gourmet recipe for Coq au Vin which normally calls for a red wine, but this used a dry Riesling that lends to a deep richness to a quick meal that has the depth of a slowly simmered stew. When I asked where I could find one the person I contacted took me right to the place where they were and recommended the Anne de K Riesling as he had sampled it himself! I bought it and am excited to report it was worth the trip to get it! Great customer service! read more

Think of this place as BevMo, but on steroids. It pretty much does everything BevMo does, but better. Larger selection, better prices, better staff, the works. The problem with this place, is you really don't know where to start. The selection is huge! You will almost instantly feel overwhelmed. Still, that might be a good thing, if you like the kid in Candy Land feel. (I like that feeling) Staff are incredibly helpful, and you will really feel satisfied with you experience. At the end of the day, probably one of the top spots to buy alcohol related products in the Bay Area. Pretty hard to top. read more

Total Wine & More is along the lines of BevMo, but has vastly more choices. They also offer wine tasting on Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays for a dime per person! I believe they also do beer tastings from time to time. The selection of beverages is vast, and the store layout is very organized. I love booze. Spirits, libations, liquid bravery, call it what you will, but I can't get enough. Total Wine is my new best friend, easily replacing other local chains with their selection, service, and prices. It's like a toy store for adults. The selection is wonderful. I've found spirits from around the world, many of which I've never seen before. I'm a big fan of scotch, tequila, rum, and bourbon, all of which they have plenty. There are many hidden gems which are quickly becoming part of my home bar. For example, I usually add Grand Marnier to margaritas and some cocktails. Total Wine had a special on Grand Imperial orange liqueur (about 1/3 cheaper than Grand Marnier). I tried it and loved it (it's a bit sweeter, but has a brighter orange flavor, ideal for mixed drinks). They also have rum from Hawaii (coconut), alcohol from local distilleries, and glass cases holding rare finds from around the world (Nice to look at, but no, I won't plan on dropping thousands of dollars for a bottle of scotch from the year of my birth). Oh, yeah... they also have a good wine selection. The beer selection is nice, but that's the only area where BevMo seems to surpass Total Wine. Was very excited to come back to this store since it has my mothers favorite wine ,which I planned on getting last night with my sibling. I also got some wine glasses as well as martini glasses for my restaurant. Once I got to the to register I got carded and so did my sister who is obviously underage . I told cashier I was her older sister , and I was purchasing the wine and glasses but cashier insisted she needed her rightful guardian with her in order to continue my purchase . Now I did explain I was her older sister thus being her guardian but I felt targeted simply because we are of different skin colors, I'm much darker than she is. No where I'm the store or at the doors does it say everyone in your party has to be 21 and I was her guardian but I guess according to them I'm not. Fine whatever, I asked if I could purchase the glasses atleast, they said no cause my sister is under age. Fucking ridiculous, never coming here again read more

TL:DR The customer service here sucks and we couldn't check out because one of our friends (who was 26) didn't bring her ID with her from the office. We left and ended up going to Costco. The cashier and the manager who we encountered were extremely rude, unhelpful, and dismissive. Pretty much the worst. Wasted 30 minutes of our time. See you never. At first, we thought this place was awesome. Great prices on beers, awesome selection of beer & wine. But then... When we went to check out, the cashier was having a casual conversation with the customer in front of us for a minute or two even after the purchase was completed. That's okay, lady. We got all day. We'll wait. Then the cashier rudely asked us ALLLLLL to show our IDs. One of our co-workers left hers at the office, and the cashier said we can't buy anything. She said she would need to call the manager to see if we can check out. The manager came, was very dismissive, and said there's nothing we can do. We would need to go back to the office, then have her come back with her ID for any of us to ever buy anything. He said it's "posted on a sign outside," so we should've known. I told them we're just going to go to Costco and never come back here. We walked outside and it took a while for us to find this "sign." The "SIGN" he was referring to was a little notice under their business hours which read something along the lines of "You must have a valid ID to enter the store." This wasn't a separate sign, and this sign also didn't let people know that you can spend 30 minutes looking around for stuff at the store, only to find out you can't check out because your friend was just tagging along for fun (she's 26 by the way). I suggested they get a bouncer if the policy is that everyone in the store must have ID. I also suggest they improve their customer service because the two employees we had an unfortunate encounter with were extremely rude and dismissive. None of us are ever coming back because our friend, the one who didn't bring her ID, is never coming back. And the manager said none of us can ever purchase from this store unless she comes back. Hahahahah like we would come back to purchase something after this terrible experience. Helpful tip because this place sucks: You can go to Costco and say you're buying alcohol at the entrance, go straight to purchase beer/wine/liquor, and buy alcohol at the register without a Costco Card. :) Yay! I've been waiting for them to open on the peninsula forever. I got to go to the grand opening party, where they had the mayor, someone sabering champagne, and lots of samples of wine, beer, and food from local vendors (Alexander's patisserie, Oren's, Pokeworks, Chez TJ, Sakoon). I've always loved their selection... - They have some hard to find liqueurs for cocktails - Prices are also much better than at Bevmo (for example, Vya sweet vermouth is about half the price here) - They also have TONs of wine, including the fancier Bordeauxs if you're looking for theirs - They do lots of wine tastings - People who work there are genuinely interested in helping you and are usually pretty knowledgeable - There's a cigar humidor Again, I'm excited that they're finally open so close to me. read more

The professionals at Total Wine Mountain View were there to guide me in selecting wine that punched above their weight class! Not only was I able to fit the budget, but was also able to get some good wine! Big thanks to Tuan, Kevin and Pam for the outstanding customer service. I'll admit that I was skeptical of Total Wine & More at first. I'm a huge fan of independent wine shops like K&L and Beltramo's (RIP), so I figured this place wouldn't be that great since it's a huge chain. Still, being the committed wine lover that I am, I immediately ventured over on opening day to see what all the hype was about. SO MUCH WINE. Despite apparently being on the small side of Total Wine & More outlets, it sure seemed huge to me. There were tons of wine options of all varietals and varying price points (literally down to $1.97... that one seemed questionable to me). There were lots of employees walking around the store asking people if they needed help and offering knowledgable recommendations about the wines - something I really wasn't expecting. I spent way more time here than I planned because there were just so many decisions I had to make. I'm still sticking with my wine club membership at K&L, but I'll definitely be back here again when I need to fill in the gaps with more wine - there is a lot to choose from! They also offer wine education classes, which I'm excited to take thanks to the free coupon they gave me in the welcome tote bag they are giving to everyone on opening weekend. The only downside to this location is the terrible parking lot (damn you Costco!). read more

We went on one of my favorite adventures, today, to Costco. After loading our car with all the stuff, "she who MUST BE obeyed", insisted going over to "recon," the Total Wine & More store. I took a break to sit outside, to watch the almost fender benders, and the general chaos, in the Costco parking lot. Well, not much going, too cold for "shorts season," so in I went. Wow, this store is probably as big as Costco, so thought I better find Her Ladyship. Luckily I didn't have to go far, as we could've easily lost each other in the vastness. She had found her Brit beer, and was kind of freaking out about prices and such. Now, we had already bought quite a bit of booze, at Costco. Next thing I know "she WHO MUST be obeyed," had my arms full, and was filling her own with Brit beer. Luckily Anjinette, saw our plight, and ran to retrieve, a cart for us. From that point on, she stopped her stocking, and became our guide. Look for her, when you go in to shop. She's also quite friendly, besides being knowledgeable, and more than helpful, The prices were so good, that our cart was full in no time. I don't see the prices being this good for long, think it's just to get people into the store. The store is definitely worth a visit, Tasting area for beer and wine, and compared to our recent experiences, at BevMo, this will be our "go to," because the service is so much better. read more

Wow. I am impressed. Mostly with Pam. GO PAM! I am an alcohol newbie and I wanted to get a friend a really really nice bottle of scotch for his 40th birthday. I wanted to get a 40 year old bottle and I had no idea what budget or what type of bottle to get for him. I called and Pam helped me on the phone... and then when I showed up in the store she helped me even more. Amazingly, the store had the bottle but did NOT have the box and papers that I want for the gift. Pam OWNED my problem, and she sourced a complete set from ANOTHER STORE OVERNIGHT and now I'm incredibly happy and I look forward to drinking the 37 year old Linkwood with my friend for his birthday this weekend! Pamela is amazing. She stayed late after her scheduled shift to ensure I got my bottle properly and she gift-wrapped the beautiful box and made sure I was taken care of. I wish all customer service was at this level, all other companies (esp BevMo) need to look to this store and Pamela as a shining example of how to treat your customers! The worst service at this total wine. I usually go to my Blossom Valley Total Wine and never have to venture out, but mine ran out of an item that I was looking for. This, I came to this one because they had what I was looking for, but at the same time I had a instant regret. I had the most terrible service. Bev-Mo, you are now dead to me. Total Wine & More does everything that you do with better service and better selection. Example #1: their beer selection is double the size of yours. I can find things that you have never had. They have tastings that happen way more frequently than yours. Example #2: I had to come in and get a bottle of wine for a party and they were extremely in narrowing down what I wanted based on my budget and my preferences. Example #3: They gave me a box to carry my booze out of the store. No awkward carts!!! Total Wine also has a rewards program although I'm not sure if I go often enough to trigger an award. But based on beer selection alone, this place now becomes my #1 choice ahead of Whole Foods. The only downside of this location is that on weekends, the parking gets ridiculous because of their Costco neighbor. read more

I had a very difficult delivery time window for my event and the helpful staff made it all happen. Pamela, Crystal, and Tom were just great. Tom helped get me sorted with my car, Pamela rang me up and even noticed that I should grab a few more bags of ice (I definitely needed those later in the day.) and crystal helped to ring up and when I broke a glass while loading, she came over, helped me get sorted and disposed of the broken glass and a box covered in liquid from the break. I like this place. You walk in and think "another big box store with staff that won't be able to find anything." Quite the opposite. I've been to multiple Total Wine locations with great customer service and had no problems. I've been to this store 3 times when I am in the area and never again. I would say I was being followed in the store and stared down! I felt very uncomfortable. They followed me up until I checked out and walked out the door. They asked me if I needed help and I said no. I know what I get every time I go. I really wanted to ask them if they needed something from be by how often they looked or followed me. To be honest it felt I was being racially profiled. I got my items got my receipt and went out the door. I even put up my receipt in the air to show I paid for how long i was being stared down for. For all the 3 times I have been to this store it was all the 3 times I was being watched and followed. If you are going to ask if we need help be more friendly and not just stare people down. read more

This is a little bit delayed, but two weeks ago I ran into Total Wine in MTV in a hurry to pick up wine for an event that was starting in about an hour. I had already bought wine, but left it at home. :/ This was my first visit into this location and I was stressed, because of being in a hurry. I went up to the info desk right at the entrance and asked if someone could help me pick out wine to pair with chocolate for our event. They promptly called Tom Bollenbeck to greet me at the front of the store. Long story short, Tom was amazing! He asked me what type of wine I was looking for and my price point. He then zoomed around the story, with my urgency in mind, and gave me detailed information about each of the wines he was recommending. I don't know how he knew so much, but he was able to tell me about the location and type of climate, the owners of the wineries, and some of the key notes of the flavors. With his help, I was able to quickly select 6 wines (there is a deal of buy 6 get a discount) and check out within what seemed about 10 minutes! This is some of the best customer service I have had recently. I burst through the doors about 5 minutes before closing on a Friday night looking for a very specific item. I have no knowledge of this stuff and was picking it up for someone else while I was in the area -- the sales associates were absolutely fantastic. One man spent time helping me to the proper section and, through to my inaccurately-memorized Russian, he found the exact product I needed. I encountered three different employees in total, all were wonderful. Unfortunately, Tom is the only name I remember but he was so personable and kind. I confess that I ordered my beverages online and I was unaware at the time that the delivery was handled by Door Dash. The delivery came on time but the young woman was wearing no protective gear during this crazy pandemic. I did my best to steer clear but did find it a bit odd when everyone is trying so hard. I thought to include this in my review of Total Wine. I thought these words would be carelessly thrown aside and never heard of again. Not this place. Less than 24 hours later, I got a call from the manager of the store expressing his sincere apologies for the lack of protection and how the store did all they could. I get it, man. You did nothing wrong. But! Because this man chose to reach out to me, he has gotten my business as long as I can. That was genuinely a great feeling, to be heard. The selection? Excellent. Total Wine might be better off being called Total Care, because that is what it feels like when you walk in the door. The employees are always ready to help in any way possible, walking to items to show you where they are or looking for items in obscure locations either high above the normal shelves or perhaps researching on the computer or looking behind other items to find something that is missing. The selection is a cut above BevMo, especially for hard to find beers. I like how seasonal beers have a prominent section on one of the sides of the store, but you can also find seasonals in other locations along with the regular all year brews. Pricing is the best I have found. It is so much fun to not only get an obscure item but also get a great price on it.....in a beautiful store full of wonderful employees. read more

If you're a wino, or friends with a wino and you know nothing about wine, this is the place to come. Unfortunately I have a taste for good wine but I'm on a beer budget. Fortunately Yut came to the rescue the first time I was in the store, and more recently Tom helped me when they were sold out of what I was looking for. They carry hard liquor and beer too (that's the "& More" part) so bases covered. I enjoy coming here because the people who offer assistance aren't pushy salespeople.
