There are two restaurants in this town I love. That's Totem Cafe and Merry Go Round. I thought the French roll was going to be a weird touch at first but I ended up devouring the burger. Literally would not even make eye contact with me and no response when I told her thank you for every interaction, I was definitely not being a jerk here. Yelp needs to offer half stars because I really want to give them 3 1/2 stars for effort. I had pancakes and eggs and bacon. Eggs and bacon were fine but pancakes were rubbery. My husband had chorizo and tortillas - he seem to like it real well. The waitress was extremely friendly and attentive to refill my coffee several times. They have signatures engraved into the wood walls of celebrities that made movies in lone Pine when the western genre was popular. Good coffee and pie! We were going through Line Pine and I had to wait for about an hour for a call before we hit the road. Totem cafe was nearby, so I stopped for a coffee and then I saw the pies! Yup! I thought the heck with the calories and asked for a slice of blueberry pie to go with my coffee, and you know what? I did not regret it for a second! Both hit the spot. The food was very good forgot to take pictures. We had pancakes and eggs the pancakes were delicious kinda of crusty on the edges and soft in the middle and big seriously you can share we each had our own but we could of shared the pancakes they give you 2 big ones. We went on Memorial Day but we got there just in time because while we were waiting for our food it was getting crowed. There were only 2 girls serving one taking the orders and the other bringing out the food I don't think they expected the crowd so it was a little slow but overall they did a good job handling the crowed the chief was probably going crazy trying to cook all that food he was a little slow but considering the crowed it's was expected. Upon arriving it's a super cute spot and the waitress was great. I love the Native American decor. I love the whole western feel. The waitress was accommodating. I have two toddlers and they were very helpful. The main reason I have to knock down two stars is there were two flies that kept trying to go into our food. We'd shoo them away and they'd come. It was hard to eat with the annoying bugs swarming our food. We were eating inside by the way. The food was okay. It was nothing special that I'd want to come back for. Crispy tendered and flavorful. The chicken was not greasy. It came out hot, succulent, and fresh! The bacon cheese burger I had was excellent. Bacon was crispy, burger was fatty and juicy. Spotted this restaurant while heading to Mobius Arch so we decided to dine here since it had outdoor seating and was shaded in the 100 degree weather. We ordered a pink lemonade and an Arnold Palmer to start. After a few minutes, our server came out and told us that they only have sodas, tea and water available. No biggie. So we just went for the water. I ordered the 12 oz. Rib Eye (Medium) and Fried Chicken Dinner. Each entree item came with a salad and a side. I have to say that the ranch was pretty good. Tasted like it was made in house and doesn't have the off the shelf taste like alot of the ranch sauce you get in the supermarket. Then came our entrees. The Rib Eye didn't look bad at all. I can see that they put some type of seasoning on it. When I cut in to it, it did look like it was cooked to medium well. It wasn't dry or anything, but was a little bland even though they put some seasoning on it. Luckily, I had the ranch sauce to make it taste better. The baked potato was actually pretty good. The Fried Chicken that came out looked dry to me and there were some pieces that was small and didn't look proportionate to the rest of the pieces. The gravy on the mashed potatoes didn't look appetizing either. It reminded me of cafeteria style mashed potatoes with the yellow gravy on top. As for the service, I thought it was just ok. With just 1 other party actually dining at the time, I did wish that the server checked up on us more often. But I can understand that they would rather stay inside were it was air conditioned than be outside in 100 degree heat. read more

My husband, my service dog and I came in for lunch today. We ordered the totem burger and Philly cheesesteak. My burger was perfection. The cheesesteak is not a traditional cheesesteak but it is well worth it all on its own. There seemed to be only one server running the entire place but she did a great job! Overcooked, dry, with the taste of old bargain bin Cornish game hen rather than standard chicken. Crazy they're asking $21-$22 for this plate. They're better off removing this from the menu. The others in party had pasta dishes, and the servings were scant, given the cost of the meals. Small pasta portions hiding in a huge bath of sauce. The soup of the day was sopa de Albondigas. I wasn't expecting mi Abuelita's version of this soup, and it had an acceptable flavor, but the broth was way too fatty. Food is zero stars. You have to get breakfast here! Everything is home made, good quality and delcious! I got the blueberry pancakes and they were big, fluffy and loaded with blueberries. My side of homemade home-fires were also home cooked and seasoned perfectly. Most importantly, they had great coffee and lots of refills. Waitress was sweet, friendly and helpful in pointing out places to go in Lone Pine. Prices were relative to the area but portions were generous. My new favorite breakfast stop! read more

Totem Cafe felt pretty average. They have vey average food with nothing spectacular or outstanding tastes. We ordered a Clubhouse Sandwich and the soup of the day which was a Cream if Chicken. The food came out pretty quick but after that we didn't really have much service. The waiter was very friendly but she was clearly stretched thin. As for seating, there seems to be plenty for how many people visit but it's kind of oddly spaced out. Overall it seemed clean and seems like they're going for a hometown vibe. Overall, I'd recommend trying something else in Lone Pine before visiting here. read more

It is said that one never gets to see a restaurant at its best until one dines at their busiest. Today, I dined at their busiest and found the service and food to be at its best. My father ordered the hot turkey sandwich and I had the spaghetti for lunch, along with a garden salad. The garden salad was fresh and updated with more than iceberg lettuce. This was a marked improvement from a previous review. The spaghetti was great and not overly burdened with mushrooms in the sauce. What impressed me most was the attention paid by the wait staff, knowing they were busy and stressed. They were attentive and courteous without being overly intrusive. After reading reviews on Yelp, i was drawn to Totem because I saw how some of the other ones actually ignored their customers and/or were rude and they cam here. When i got here, it was busy but the head waitress, friendly and welcoming, cleared off a table that had hust been vacated. She quickly wiped it down and then fanned the table in a humoroys attempt to dry it. That was a great beginning w excellent customer service. Then another equally friendly waitress took my order my coffee, breakfast burrito and hash browns. All were delicious. Then i had this thought "I'd like a coffee refill. " Two seconds later the waitress came ovrr and poured me another cup. I said to her, "You read my mind! " she laughed and went on her way. Now folks, that's fine customer service if you ask me! This cute sounding cafe in a cute sounding town (Lone Pine) on the way to Mammoth was so disappointing, but all the warning signs were there...! Miles away from the sea, yet there's fish on the menu?! A waitress who didn't know *anything* about the dishes...WARNING... I ordered the special of the day. Friday was fish and chip day. It was crap. The fish was grey and the batter was soggy and greasy, as were the fries as though they were cooked twice and in warm, not hot oil. Yuck. The halibut was better, but only just. And served with a crap salad and a baked potato which was pretty good (but can you go wrong baking a potato?!) There are some locals who come here, but I doubt they ordered the same as us. Most of the folks here are winter sports tourists and I doubt they are repeat customers :) My only advice is to skip Totem Cafe unless you're looking for postcards and try the Merry Go Round across the street that looks so cute... read more
