The menu looks loaded with lots of wonderful things. We decided to get the Loaded Nachos and a couple of beers and then split a slice of Cherry Pie and a slice of Cheese Cake. Everything we had was so good! The nachos came with home made chips which were soo good! We will definitely be coming back next time we are in Lone Pine. Like others have said, the place looks like it's in need of an update but the food is good and worth a stop. The main reason for my review is to acknowledge the server we had. We were there for dinner on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022. I then went the following morning to get a to-go breakfast (Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022). the server we had was probably the best server I've ever had....ever. She's probably who others have talked about in their reviews. She is intuitive, friendly (without being obnoxious), and seems genuinely interested in making sure you have a wonderful experience. Stopped by here on our way out of Mammoth. Service was prompt and friendly. Missed the breakfast hours so this is for their lunch menu. Got the steak sandwich, which was pretty good. Friend had cheese steak, which was also decent. Kids had spaghetti, which was plentiful and meat saucy. Wife had healthy veggie pasta with shrimp, which looked pretty healthy. Mozarella stick was cheesy enough and well fried. It's your run of the mill American style diner, can't go wrong with diner style food. THE BEST RIBEYE STAKE I've had. VERY tender, VERY flavorful. Dabbed a piece in steak sauce and it was the biggest mistake I made. Totally killed the flavor of it and ended up eating the rest of it without. Almost wanted to apologize for asking for some sauce. Dinner was amazing!! The quality of food was far better than we expected from first impressions from the street and being let to our table. The decore is quaint, and rugged. Loved the carved in signatures from various movie/TV personalities who have visited the Totem Cafe (although we needed to Google many of them before we went, "oh yeah, that guy/gal"). I cannot recommend the Totem Cafe. My husband and I stopped for lunch as we were passing through Lone Pine. I ordered a tuna melt which tasted extremely fishy and appeared to be canned tuna that had been refried on the flat top, added to bread, topped with some cheese and grilled with lots of butter. My husband's BLT with avocado was the worst he's ever had and he eats them frequently. The service was slow. The ambiance is thrift shop. read more

If I could give negative stars I'm on a fire assignment with my fire crew from a county down south, we arrived here in uniform, and sat down and patiently waited. When someone came by there was absolutely no greeting, just dropped off menus and left. We then sat for 25 mins before I got up and asked for service, we then finally got asked for our order, all we ordered was waters to drink first and one orange juice...we waited another 20 mins for that, meanwhile never got any service or asked anything at all. Menu ranges from burgers to rib eye and salmon with baked potato! For $15.95 you get a salmon with baked potato - but there are a ton of flies! Yes, flies! They leave the door open, maybe for a breeze but a lot of flies come by to drown themselves in your baked potato butter or your beer. We couldn't stand it and didn't finish eating. I counted ten flies on our table at one time - yuck. Pros: right next to the WHITNEY portal road. Also in the middle of the Lone Pine town. Decent service. We have seen a lot of menu changes and other service challenges almost everywhere we go so keep that in mind when reviewing, be kind, tip well and have a heart, Blew in late on Thanksgiving and after we checked into our room, we were hoping for a Hail Mary thanksgiving take out dinner. We ended up here and they provided us with a full dinner with all the fixins. Yummy and just what we were hoping for. Great spot to stop on the way to or coming from Mammoth Mtn. The spaghetti is really delicious. I recommend the cabernet also. Outdoor patio is nice, but a little chilly with no heat lamps. There are indoor seating but very limited right now. Plenty of parking along the street. read more

The food was some of the worst I have had - mediocre chef salad and nachos that were drowning in black bean juice. They had a salsa that looked more like Chinese hot sauce. The food was served in take-out styrofoam containers, even though we made it clear we were eating in their outside seating. The waters we ordered were never provided. Beer was fine, but she had trouble pouring it without foam. I would never come here again. Go to The Grill down the street for great food and service. read more

Just got into town with my dad and sat down around 5:30p on a Saturday afternoon. Place is empty. We pick a table next to a window and I counted at least 6 flies. Our waitress is prompt and nice. Food on the other hand was not-as-nice. $27 for mediocre meat spaghetti and chicken artichoke and red bell pepper Alfredo. While I realize the yelp picture isn't by the restaurant, our plate of meat spaghetti looked half-as-full of noodles. You can taste that the artichokes are canned and the chicken was dry and over cooked. I'm not looking for Italian masterpieces, just food worth its price. I should add that we were charged $5 for an extra side of garlic toast? Honestly, s h o o k at the price point. My freeze dried backpacking meals were more tasty. read more

I ordered a steak dinner and it was okay. My mum ordered fried chicken and she said it was fine. Another couple sat at the table next to us and asked if they could order the veggie burgers for dinner that they had previously ordered for lunch and when the waitress said yes, they were really happy. First negative review I ever left. Took 50 minutes to receive breakfast, on a Monday. Restaurant only half full. Wife's meal arrived 5 minutes before mine. Eggs were undercooked, (they rushed hers when we were ready to walk). Food was good over all. (It's pretty hard to screw up eggs). Un sympathetic waitress. We were looking for a place to eat on the way back from Mammoth and this hit the spot. I got a Totem burger (2 patties on a sandwich roll) and she got a hamburger. The waitress swapped onion rings for fries with with no extra charge. Cool. Burger was juicy and the onion rings were good. I came into the Totem after being ignored across the street. I was greeted and seated immediately, served right away and presented with probably the best breakfast I've had in a long time. My waitress was a sweet, efficient and charming young woman. I'm so happy I got ignored at the other place. I had the Ham n eggs with home fries. Delicioso! I recommend this place over the other place across the street. I can't tell you the name of that place bcuz that would be indiscreet (Mt Whitney Cafe). Came here for Brunch on July 4th because my family wanted to do the Lone Pine Lake hike and this was one of the first places we saw when we came in. We were seating and there were flies in the restaurant, the table was sticky and it didn't seem too clean for a restaurant. We sat down and we had to order from the lunch menu because we came in during lunch time but my mom wanted an omelette, so we asked and they were able to make my mom an California omelette with hash browns. I ordered Totem bird with fries and salad and a club sandwich for my dad. The totem bird was a turkey bacon sandwich which was good because I got half salad and fries. The bacon was a little bit over cooked and it seems like it was cooked ahead of time, which you can tell by how dry it looked. The salad contrasted the saltiness of the turkey and bacon in the sandwich. The omelette was good because it had a lot of veggies, which my parents like and the club sandwich had more than what a BLT has so im sure it was pretty good. They definitely give you a lot of food. We had to take some food back with us because we had too much food. The place over all is decent. There was a whole section where it was an open area, which I feel like they shouldn't do because it makes the space look more empty. Maybe if they cleaned up the place a little bit, it wouldn't be too bad because the food is decent. read more

This restaurant is a gem in an otherwise unremarkable town with only one (1) street light. My buddy and I went on a photography safari to Mono Lake and Mammoth Lake on Labor Day weekend and passed through Lone Pine to and from our destinations. We Yelped where to eat and the Totem Cafe came up with pretty decent reviews so we stopped in. We enjoyed the food. The Rib Eye steak was pretty good as was the New York Steak sandwich. The outdoor seating was a plus. The only downside for me is they played old school country both times we were there so that sucked. read more

The young lady that was our server was very professional, funny and extremely attentive wonderful service and food. They offer a variety of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant was very clean and they practice social distancing and sanitize all surfaces after each customer. We were camping/boondocking in the Alabama Hills, but needed a place to get internet so we could get some work done. The Totem Bird sandwich is exceptional, as is the chili. Or just coffee and cake mid afternoon. Ask for Angelica, one of the friendliest servers ever. Nice restrooms too. We ate here three days in a row. Good parking on Whitney Portal road in the shade. Also free water for your campsite on the corner of the building. We will be back! read more
