My friend & I visited to pick up some pastries for our travels, & I was surprised to see that they carried kimchi donuts! I've spoken with another bakery owner in the past who had them stocked only temporarily & asked why they're so ephemeral. These savory buns are bordering on mythic -- in order to coincide with some in the wild relies on variables concerning quality control... I don't like to do bad reviews but I think it must be said about this place. I usually go to Tous Les Jours Wicker Park and was in this neighborhood and thought I'd stop by and it was a bad decision. I was better off going to a local Starbucks. I have it 1 star for selection of self serve pastries and 1 star just overall. 1- The place had great energy but unfortunately no room and had to have my items in the car. Don't expect to find room if you're expecting to dine in. And the lot also has tight spaces. 2 - there is a certain level you come to expect of the food items from a Tous Les Jours. This was a big downer. Had a piece of one of their cloud cakes and had a lot to be desired. The bread portion was a little dryer than expected and not as good tasting. Also the whipping was not as good, nor as sweet compared to other locations. Fruit was absent. There was a layer of cake bread missing. The only positive I can say is their selection of self serve pastries which quickly run out. 3 - customer service needs work and the cashier was not polite. I came in, asked for two pieces of cake. Took them a little time and said there was only one. While we waited and stream of people came in. I went ahead and gave her my drink order, 2 vanilla cappuccinos. I asked for a second to grab something else and she said I've got people waiting and began to non-verbally with hand gestures playing me off and showcasing the line that had just been formed and was not waiting more than 30 seconds. The lady was rude and should be doing this job. Besides my cake being subpa, my drink order was wrong! No vanilla and wrong size! Terrible customer service and follow through. Never coming to this place again. Not sure why this location was popular, the area must be starved for decent coffee shops. They have a lot to choose from and make it easy. You grab a tray and some tongs and help yourself. Its interesting. Some things are 100% french and some things have an asian spin to them. Im not a huge fan of that. Hey..it may be for you, but ill pass. Noteworthy is their impressive looking cake display. I might give that a whirl when needed. They also have a variety of macarons. Mindblowingly good! This is my absolute favorite bakery of all time. Come early because once the pastries are gone they're gone. They have a huge selection to choose from. My husband knows how much I love this bakery and he's got me their cake for my birthday last week. It was a vanilla chocolate mousse, not overly sweet or creamy at all. Perfect sweetness and light cloud like texture. Everything on the cake is edible from the card with happy birthday sign to those pearls. I missed this place so much.... I wish they open one up in Michigan. Due to covid-19, they had special hours, so got here little after 8am, the staff members were still busy packing items. No dine in, just carry out only. Same operations like all Asian bakeries, get a tray, tong and you pick out what you want. When done, walk up to the cashier and they will ring you up, pay and out you go. As I got here early, some items were not available, just had to ask and they grabbed it from the back. I'd been looking forward to trying Tous Les Jours for quite awhile. I'm on a quest for unique lattes, and the online menu here shows a few amazing looking ones, such as Honey Lavender Macchiatos and Lavender Lattes -- interesting flavors, as well as artistic presentation. When I saw that the menu also includes lunch options, I was in, and made a special trip here Aug. 6 for lunch and a drink. When we arrived, we inquired about entree options because the menu board only listed beverages (plus there were assorted baked goods in cases). The staff told us this location does not serve any lunch items. This was disappointing, as the online menu doesn't say the sandwiches and salads are available only at certain locations. So, my mom and I were forced to go elsewhere for lunch, but said we'd return for lattes. When we returned later that afternoon, we attempted to order some of the beverages that had attracted us to this store in the first place. And that's when we were told they also don't serve the unique drinks listed on the online menu, nor do they prepare any other lattes or mochas with "art" on top, which again, the menu pictures. So, we left for the second time in one day without making a purchase. This experience was extremely disappointing. They really need to update their website to reflect which locations carry what items. Until then, I won't be back to this location or any other one. read more

It's a French/Korean bakery. Offers a wide selection of pastries that are freshly baked in house. They can warm up anything and I highly recommend their taro latte. I usually ask for a cup of ice to pour the taro latte and instantly it becomes one of the most delicious drink I've ever had. The downfall I couldn't give this place 5 stars simply because I noticed a few fruit flies flying on top of a few of the pastries. Also be warned if you come here late, there will be a limited selection to choose from. Also a nice pricey selection of unique cakes beautifully decorated. Spacious seating for coffee dates, remote working, studying, group projects, after dinner treat, etc. Music plays overhead. Iced americano is made perfectly strong to my liking. You can't go wrong with any of their pastries. Cloud bread and donuts for the little ones seem to be their go-to's and fresh strawberry, fresh cream croissant for myself. Their cakes are also a great option to bring to a gathering or grab as a last minute celebration cake. They are all delicious. The green tea cake with strawberries is my favorite. I bring my little one here for breakfast dates before daycare. We enjoy seeing the morning staff as they are friendly and happy to see us. read more

If you're looking to buy one of their cakes, I suggest to call them to get info and prices, instead of relying on the website. One, they don't list the prices on there and two, the online menu doesn't accurately reflect what they actually have in the shop. Their cakes range from $27 to $40+, with red velvet being the cheapest flavor. I got the cloud cream cake #1, which is a layered vanilla cake made with sweet and fresh whipped cream and topped with seasonal fruits that are glazed. There were also fresh strawberries inside. It was moist, dreamy, and had the perfect amount of sweetness. It's not cloying like other cakes and incredibly light. They have a variety of cakes that are available as soon as they open, so even if you're picking up last minute or have to pick up a cake very early in the day, fret not because they have options and they open at 7am :) read more

Whenever people ask me where to get cake...this is one of my top recommendations! Their cakes are so fluffy and moist and light and the frosting isn't too sweet but just right! My favorite cake from here is their berry cloud cake but you really can't go wrong with any of them! I also love their milk bread from their packaged pastries! I missed TLJ from my time in Korea and was excited to see one here. My mom and I visit from STL periodically and we ended up staying at the Baymont behind this location. We went almost every single day, a couple times we went twice a day. The pastries are fantastic, especially the almond croissant, milk cream bread and bun, the toast, and cheese danish. Wasn't a huge fan of the soboro bread or the strawberry bread baguette thing. The real stars are the beverages though, specially the ube latte. Hot is delicious, but iced will open your eyes to a whole new world. Nutty, sweet, creamy, with a hint of vanilla - you will fall in love. I miss them already and we just got home a few hours ago. I dont normally come to TLJ for bread, pastry or cake back home in Los Angeles because we have so many other options, Paris Baguette for example. This location does have more bread than LA does because 2-3 hours before closing, bread usually sell out and theres literally nothing to buy but here, there was many to choose from. It was packed in the early evening on Sunday but wasnt too busy at the register. With tons of bread and a cake in my hand waiting to be ring up, I witnessed and experienced not so pleasant incident at the register. To make things brief, I just want to leave a comment on customer service. I read it on other Yelper's reviews about it too and obviously I am not the only one. This problem is solid and needs to be addressed until its fixed. The girl at the register provided no service whatsoever. She doesnt greet you, say thank you or smile. She has that really mean, annoying face. I hate this. Like, I said many times in the past, if you dont want to freaking work then go home instead of making customers mad. You get paid to work and thats all you can do, wow, when did making money become THAT easy? Tell me about it. One word for the boss, hire someone who can make your business' reputation high and better OR train them before ruining peoples' days. No matter how acceptable your products are, people wont return if you dont provide customer service. read more

The selection was wonderful. We had an almond croissant, pumpkin biscuit, and a cheese roll to share. We got ginger lattes. They had real ginger pieces in the lattes. I love ginger so it was the perfect drink for me. The prices are reasonable. It's self serve. The tables were clean. They have very long hours. 7am to 10pm. We were there in the late afternoon. If you've ever been to Paris Baguette around California or New York and then come back to Chicago, you've probably noticed a lack of good French-asian style bakeries in the midwest. Fortunately, Tous Les Jours has started opening bakeries near Chicago which serve the light, well-crafted, delicious pastries you've loved. For those who have never had this type of baked good -- think of the Asian flavors of local favorites such as Chiu Quon or Bini's Bakery and then infuse the delicious creams and buttery dough you'd find in a patisserie. This produces the perfect combination of flavors and textures that's really hard to describe unless you try it. Sweet and aromatic... crispy and soft... Admittedly, a bit pricey but you'll definitely notice the quality with each bite. There are a few differences between here and the Schaumburg location (that review covers other items I do not cover here). This location seems to be slightly larger, with a bit more variety of pastry goods (as well as shaved ice / patbingsoo which is not available in Schaumburg yet as of this review). The prices also seem to be slightly lower and the croquettes are kept in a keep-warm oven. Overall, this bakery really excels in the sweeter items especially ones involving custards and creams or buttery/flaky pastry. The normal breads and items containing meat (outside of the croquettes) weren't as amazing for me. Here are my thoughts on some items: Almond croissant: Buttery crust, crispy and crunchy at same time -- Velvety smooth pastry (probably loads of butter as well) on the inside with sliced almonds for texture contrast. Red bean cream pastry: Fantastic fresh cream with strong milk flavor, like Beard Papa's. Slightly on the sweet side but still very enjoyable. The Honey Flower Bread: Had three personalities. The top is crispy and buttery, the middle is a mix of 2 cheeses which is surprisingly mild, bottom is like sweet baguette with a bit of chewiness. Chestnut pastry: Almost like puffy monkey bread with nuts prepared almost liked baked red beans in texture although very mildly flavored. Ham and cheese pastry: Interesting combination - sweet honey exterior, strong cheese flavor, but the ham is unremarkable and cut thin. Potato and bacon bread: Not quite a bread, not quite like a bacon pizza with potatoes. Unique and enjoyable flavor that's a bit more Korean-like with the sauce. Red bean shaved ice: I'm very happy they layered both the red bean and the cream so the flavor is distributed throughout and the chewy mochi provides a nice texture contrast. The ice was shaved well, without any clumping. There were bits and pieces of random elements like roasted barley and almond slices mixed inbetween the layers. The red bean itself is prepared very soft and creamy and the ice cream that tops the dish is extremely smooth and creamy. Taro chai tea latte: Sweet taro flavor, similar to Joy Yee's, slightly too sweet for me but hard to avoid when mixing these elements together. Peach smoothie -- Tastes just like light yogurt drink. Mammoth -- Almost like a deconstructed peanut butter and jelly sandwich except with cream. There are crushed peanuts on the outside, which really could've been honey roasted to provide more flavor but still mixes well with the cream and jam filling on the inside. Mini danish pan bread -- Tastes like something between a bread and apricot danish so you have the heartiness of bread with the flakiness of a danish at the same time. Overall, excellent and well worth a visit if you're in the area. Once again, don't be shocked at the prices as you're definitely getting better ingredients and expert preparation with these items. read more

This place is located in the plaza across from ABT. There is plenty of parking available. The place didnt feel very welcoming when you walk in. I think they only greet mainly korean customers. (from what i saw/heard). Although they have a nice area where you can dine in, most people just grab and go. The dining area did get pretty full once afternoon snack time hit. They have an impressive variety of pastry/bread available to choose from. From some reviews, i saw many people mentioned milk soft and milk bread as a must try so I got those. Then i picked out the almond croissant, ham and cheese croissant, hot dog croissant and sesame ball. The milk soft and milk bread have milk/cream filling in them. The filling in the milk soft was so overwhelming i was having trouble eating the whole thing. And the size is like 2 small garlic bread sticks put together. I wanted to barf because of the cream filling. The milk bread is a bit more tolerable. The almond croissant was good. The ham and cheese and hot dog croissant was okay. There was barely any filling in the ham and cheese. What my fiance and I did not like was the sweet glaze they added on top of the croissant. When i pick out something that's salty, i just want it to be salty and not salty and sweet. We purchased 5 and a half pastries and paid a shy of $20 bucks for all. The sesame ball i got was tiny. So i consider it "half" :P But like some people have mentioned, the employees there don't really smile a lot. That doesn't really make me want to go back. My fiance actually prefers the Hippo Pastry place inside Mitsuwa better. read more

This is a more recent addition to the spate of Korean cafes/bakeries in the area. This one seems a little "fancier" and it is priced accordingly, but overall the baked goods are tasty and I've never had a bad drink here. The bakery section is pretty impressive, they have a lot of goods I've never seen at other Korean bakeries, but again, it is a little pricier too. I've liked a lot of their offerings, but there's nothing that really amazed me. I think probably the best thing I've had here was actually their chicken salad sandwich. It's sold in the refrigerated section near the front and was absolutely delicious. It's fairly humble looking but they pack a lot of chicken in there. Somehow the chicken was perfectly seasoned, the lettuce was still crunchy and the bread was perfectly soft without being mushy. How they managed all that is a wonder to me. There are plenty of seats and they have a few outlets if you need to study. I've never had too much of a problem finding seats, and it's always been very clean, bright, and open. read more

Friends introduced me to this bakery, and I'm a fan. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, and the center aisle where all the unpackaged pastries sit neatly in little bins was fully stocked. There is a great selection of individual pastries - sweet and savory, loaves of bread, croquettes, macarons, and cakes. The fifth star eludes this store because of the layout and flow. You walk in the door and the trays and tongs to make your selections without sharing germs is on the left. Beyond that there is no easy easy way to get around the tight space, which include a center bank of baked goods with bins on both sides. By the time you have over-filled your tray there is no way to tell if there is a line for the register(s). And if you don't speak Korean you might not understand he/she is asking you if you are ready and if all 20 pastries are for here or to go. So, it's worth a trip and return trips. I hear the packaged pastries freeze well, which we shall see later this week. In the meantime I'm going to decide between the cream cheese pastry or the red bean bun. Or maybe both. read more

I would definitely come here and/or recommend the custom cakes. Very fresh and beautiful decorations. The strawberry cream cake is top notch: light, fluffy, flavorful! I would not come for the customer service though. On multiple occasions (and from multiple employees), I've found they just answer something, even though it's wrong, like when I ordered a decaf Americano, but the guy didn't punch in decaf on the screen... I double checked with him, "decaf, right?", and he replied affirmative, but I noticed the person actually making the drink just looked over his shoulder at the order, so of course, when I double checked with her, she didn't make it decaf. Or the time I bought a gift card and asked if they expire. "No." When I got home, I read that it literally says "valid until one year from the date of issue". Or the other time I ordered a macaron as part of my goodies, but didn't see it in my bag. I asked the older lady who packaged my pastries about it, and she insisted it was in the bag; when I double checked and asked her to look behind the counter, sure enough, she had left it on the side. There was still a great selection. I got the curry pastry (winner) and some kind of green tea-mochi stick (?). I also got a warm honey tea. TLJ has an amazing variety of flavors - traditional Asian flavors like kimchi croquettes, matcha-flavored pastries, and soboros, fusion flavors like red bean cream pastries, more Western items like chocolate croissants, cro-nuts, and beautifully crafted birthday cakes. We've ordered 4 birthday cakes from them so far, and they were all absolutely beautiful and delicious. The cakes can be personalized with a message and also come with candles and a serving/cutting spoon. They have recently also added a delectable line of "strawberry" items - strawberry cream croissants, strawberry soft cream bread, and some strawberry drinks that I'm dying to try.
