Whenever I have friends visiting Sacramento I always take them here because it is a hidden treasure with really affordable prices and they can really make you any kind of drinks that you request if they have the ingredients here. . I love the Ambiance because it is history here and I do love the locations where it is in the alleyway in Old Sacramento which is really amazing. . I usually get the menu items that they recommend like a French 75 to a margarita and pina colada and Mai Tai and more. They have really great quality drinks and the price is really reasonable like for example my French 75 was only $10. . They also serve food until 2:00 a.m. in the morning where usually places stop serving around 1:30 a.m. . I really like coming here to eat and have really great drinks and visit with friends too. Some of the food that we order is their burgers which is really legit and it comes with french fries. I also got some of their loaded fries which was really yummy. The energy was poppin, the space was moody and intentional, and the cocktails were well-crafted and memorable. We only had time for one drink because the power kept going out and the building had to be evacuated but even then, the staff handled it professionally and efficiently. Everyone was taken care of, payments were handled smoothly, and there was zero chaos despite the situation. Didn't get a chance to try the food this time, but it's absolutely on our return list. I love the atmosphere. Very rustic vibes and ample amount of seating. They have outdoor seating with heaters outside, but we chose to sit inside. Their menu and drinks are posted on the wall by the main bar. You order at the bar first and then you choose to sit whereever you'd like. They give you a number to place on the table and they deliver your food to the table. For appetizers, we ordered the Asparagus Fries and the Rolled Tacos. Both were good but the asparagus fries were my favorite. The Rolled tacos were a little plain, but when you dipped it in the sauce, it tasted much better. I ordered the Hot Mess Hot Chicken Sandwich. It comes with a side of fries. There wasn't anything special about the fries, but the chicken sandwich was delicious. It actually had a spicy kick to it. This was my first time coming here i had walked by several times but never stopped in, but looked at their menu outside of the establishment and the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries caught my eye so i decided to go in. I was greeted by Joshua a very polite friendly bartender, he was very knowledgeable of the menu and drinks i happened to by chance come in at their happy hour got a tecate he rimmed it with tajin and a lime it was so good and refreshing. I didn't have to wait very long for my meal it was so delicious I will be back to try their famous carne asada fries they marinate the meat its made from scratch im here for that. I finally tried this place out today after always hearing about them. The ambiance is like a nice underground bar/pub. The service was friendly at the bar but it took what felt like a long time to receive my food when they weren't busy at all. I got their spicy guac burger which was really good while my relative got one of their chicken sandwiches. We both enjoyed the entrees and fries we got. We were disappointed in the rolled tacos we got which tasted like delimex frozen taquitos you buy in grocery stores and Costco. I'll have to give them another try and order a drink after seeing frozen beverages as well as a decent cocktail menu. I'd personally stay away from some of their appetizers and only get a sandwich or burger if you're hungry though. read more

Bathrooms were so disgusting, I couldn't even use them. Pesto sandwich wasn't great but not the worst, not enough pesto. What a hidden gem! This place is HUGE and has a lot going on, from pool to shuffleboard to a lovely outside patio. There are multiple bars and a full service kitchen, and each room kinda has a different vibe to it. Joshua was our mixologist when we were there, and he KILLED it. We didn't have a cocktail menu but he was able to expertly make everything we asked for, and did the same for other customers. I had one of the best Bees Knees ever, in addition a lovely White Linen and expertly crafted Old Fashioned. The food was delicious, classic american. The smokey pesto chicken sandwich was a highlight, but my wife enjoyed the spicy guac burger as well. We'll definitely be back here to try out new cocktails and food! read more

This place looks a bit like a divey pub and I've found hit and miss food at places like that, but the burger here actually was solid. I got the bacon guac one. Lots of bacon and guac to add a ton of savory flavor and the beef was pretty meaty and cooked well. Only thing I thought could be improved was the bun. Fries were okay. I brought my MIL here when she was visiting for mother's day, and the food took over 45 minutes and tasted like overcooked cafeteria food. Drinks were also mediocre and overpriced. I overheard a conversation between two coworkers about some shadiness coming from management. No one seemed happy to be there. I read in a previous review that this place can get dangerous in the evenenings, so I made sure to come early, but we were still harassed by transient folks in their patio section. With so many better options nearby, I wouldn't dare recommend this place to someone I cared about. read more

Went here for my friend's birthday, we've been a couple times now. This place is always hit or miss depending on the crowd and overall vibe. This time it was definitely more poppin', but unfortunately, I just wasn't feeling great and wasn't vibing with the scene. That said, shoutout to the female bartender near the outside bar, super sweet and made a great drink. The better energy was outside for sure. We ended up ordering some food (gotta soak up that alcohol somehow), and I have to say, it was actually pretty good for a little bar kitchen. The location is cool, right in downtown Old Sacramento. There are two entrances: the upper level one takes you downstairs, and then there's the back entrance that leads through a good-sized outdoor patio, which is a fun spot to hang out too. I'll be back at some point, I'm sure. So if you're looking for a solid bar with different areas to chill in, plenty of space, and that laid back dive bar feel, Honey and the Trapcat is worth checking out. read more

The food was really good and their bartenders are super awesome! Pricing is very reasonable. They have a lot of indoor and outdoor space, but the outdoor space was a lot more comfortable. Inside had a dark wood, dim vibe. More open space for standing than for seating. My only complaint is the cleanliness. Their bathroom really needs attention. Also, their business is downstairs. I don't know if they have an elevator, but you can enter through their back / outdoor entrance too. I think I prefer that entrance more! read more

Came in on a Thursday night and was immediately greeted by the bartender who just handed us a menu and asked if we were ordering food, we said no thank you and were already ready to order our drinks but before we could, the bartender ran off and proceeded to ignore us for over 20 minutes. Someone new came up to the bar next to us and the same bartender ignoring us went ahead and took his order first. Extremely irritating and tested out patience to the fullest extent. I love the underground layout, and how there are different rooms and 3 bars to settle up at, as well as the pool tables and the effort they make in occasionally catering to local event crowds with themed drinks and playlists. I have been going to Honey & the Trapcat for years and always loved it; it's the ONLY bar in Sacramento that actually serves good quality food, late at night. But last night I had a totally bad experience with my food order, and no longer see this business in the same light. I won't say I'll never be back, but I'll definitely think twice before I order food. Basically, I was with a group of friends and ordered some Asada fries. They were taking forever to come out. My boyfriend went to go check on the order with the kitchen, and they lost my order! The man in the kitchen apologized, and said that the fries would be out shortly, AND that they would add on something else for free for my trouble. I was very happy with this offer, and was ready to forget the whole situation. I went up to the guy and asked for a second order of Asada fries, for my free order. The guy said, "no problem! Come back in 3 minutes and they'll be ready." (I also let my friends kill the remainder of my fries because I was under the assumption that I was getting a second order in a few minutes.) I was seated where I could see the kitchen window, so I would be able to see the fries when they were ready. I waited 3 minutes, then closer to 5, and then when it was pushing 10 minutes, I went up there to the window again. This time there was a woman, and I told her about my situation. The second order of fries was lost, (and it was not on the order screen either). She told me she needed to go check with her manager. Then, she found me a few minutes later, and told me to go check with THE BAR??!! Literally what does the bar have ANYTHING to do with my order? Those bartenders were slinging drinks all night, they would not have an answer for me over there. Also, why is it MY job to GO CHECK with the bar??! Why couldn't she do it? I'm already running around just simply trying to get my food that I ordered. Needless to say, it was a total mess. It felt like none of the workers were in communication, and they were expecting me to solve it (while I'm just trying to have a night out with friends). It had been at least 30-40+ minutes total for this whole ordeal. My friends were ready to call it a night, and I didn't feel like checking with the bar or the kitchen 5 more times, or waiting 20 more minutes for fries. So we left. I felt like no one was taking accountability or making it right. And even worse, they were trying to direct me around the whole facility to solve their problems for them. read more

The bartender that helped us wasn't very friendly and seemed to not want to be working tonight. We ordered mozzarella sticks, two Midori sours and I ordered tequila and Red Bull. I actually got charged for tequila, something else that was hard to read because their receipt paper that we had to sign was out of ink, but it looked like it said (drink), and the Red Bull in which he poured it from an already open can. If he was going to charge me for the Red Bull, he should have given me a fresh can unopened. And when I tasted the drink, it tasted like tapwater and Red Bull. We asked the lady who bought our mozzarella sticks about having our drink we made, and she shrugged, pointed to the bar and said discuss it with them. She didn't seem very friendly either so I just decided to keep the drink on the table. The mozzarella sticks did not taste right the outside looked cooked, but the inside taste freezer burnt, we didn't eat them. We left them on the table as well. Needless to say I had high hopes for this place, but I definitely will not be back. And let's not leave out the really big brawl that broke out inside of the place. i'm happy I didn't follow my first mind and order real food and more drinks as I was out celebrating my birthday with my daughters.
