Among the endless strip malls and takeout spots on Merrick road, you'll find Poketo! Parking is easy. They have a small area inside to eat, but you'll probably want to take your grub to go. The woman helping us was sweet but slightly confused and had to remake a bowl twice. Seemed like someone needed to train her better before sending her out the the wolves of the Friday night dinner crowd. To her benefit, it was pretty slow in there, but I digress... Small bowls will run you $11.95 each. They have plenty of bases like white/brown rice and hello, zucchini noods! Plus a variety of proteins are offered such as tuna, salmon (including spicy varietals), and even tofu, eel and scallop! I opted for brown rice and zucchini plus spicy tuna and salmon, with a healthy assortment of toppings. The bowl was OK, but the spicy tuna was basically hot lava in my bowl (not tasty, just SPICY). I was also slightly irked that seaweed topping was an extra dollar. We were offered two free drinks with out food as a promotion they were running, so it wasn't so bad. If Poke takeout joints were celebrities, I would say Poketo is for sure on the B list. If you're willing to drive a little further down sunrise highway you'll get stars in your eyes. read more

The seafood is fresh and very flavorful. The shrimp was cold and had a nice bite to it which I appreciate immensely and hate getting soft and possibly mushy shrimp. The spicy tuna was great and the portion was generous. I added edamame, cucumbers, crispy shallots, mango, and avocado with ponzu and eel sauce. I always choose those sauces to balance out the spice from the spicy tuna and the flavors work out to be a symphony of spicy, sweet, and slightly citrusy and tart. Been spending a fortune on pokè bowls in the city for meh fish and tiny portions. So thrilled we have this place here locally. Definitely our go-to for nights when not cooking and want something quick. Or don't want to spend a zillion $$ on sushi. Think of this place like a subway sandwich shop. First is your base - rice (white or brown) or zoodles (which aren't spiralized that well, only small pieces) - or a burrito (should I try a poke burrito?). Second is your protein - all good, typical sushi grade stuff (tuna, salmon, spicy varieties of each, yellowtail, cooked eel, chicken, tofu, or imi crabmeat). Now move onto toppings (edamame, seaweed salad, mango, carrots, green onions, carrots, radish, tomatoes, and others). Then add your dressing and toppings. I suggest tho poke dressing - or go with the spicy mayo if you're feeling like a fatty. On toppings, I recommend sesame seeds and crispy onions/shallots. The menu also has great ideas if you don't want to think too hard about it. The Hawaiian is great. And great to go off the menu if ordering online (UberEats was Uber speedy). At it's core, it a fast casual restaurant that employs an assembly line model. As the name indicates, the restaurant specializes in Hawaiian poke bowls. The restaurant's lay out is pretty open and there is seating for at least a dozen. They already have a website established for online orders. There is lots of parking in the lot plus plentiful street parking nearby. The process of ordering pretty similar to Chipotle or any other fast casual restaurant. Pick your vessel: either rice bowl, salad, zucchini strings, or burrito. Then pick a protein: salmon and tuna are the most popular option but there are a bunch more seafood options as well as tofu and chicken. Then you pick dressings and toppings; both have lots of options. All in all, I had a pleasant experience. The service was quick. I enjoyed my salmon rice bowl and thought the customization options were plentiful. It's a bit more expensive than the other fast casual restaurants in the area, but I expected that given that seafood is the core offering here. Even my mom liked it. read more

If I could put zero stars I would. While the food is fresh and delicious the owner leaves very much to be desired. They recently switched to a system where you order on a reusable menu. My boyfriend went in, there was one reusable menu and he out my order on it. He tells 'the owner' he needs a second bowl. Oh the same bowl, no I need another menu to fill out. She ignores him and makes my bowl. He tells her again I need another bowl/menu. She ignores him. She gets to the register and be again says he needs a second bowl. He pays for mine thinking maybe she'll make his bowl but no she goes to help other people. I called to complain and the so called 'owner' plays the I don't understand card, and hangs up on me. Then she turned off the phone. If I could give zero starts I would. My poor boyfriend has no dinner and I want to throw mine in the trash. Horrible customer service. I will never return. read more

Poketo is conveniently located off Merrick Road with ample parking. I found Poketo when looking up local poke places as I've been on a poke frenzy lately! Like another poke place I visited, it's fairly expensive. It'll cost you $15 for 3 protein. I gave Poketo 3 stars because as seen in the photo attached, I ordered a large & was deceived by the fact that it wasn't even filled all the way to the top! If I'm lying $15, and that's what you hand me at the end, anyone would be disappointed. If it wasn't for the wide range of options that Poketo offers, I would of given two stars instead. It's great to have found a poke spot in the area! And not just any poke spot, but one that offers zucchini noodles as a base too?! That impressed me a lot. Even many of the places in Manhattan don't offer zucchini noodles so I was shocked to see a place on Long Island did. The toppings are all very fresh and there is a pretty wide variety. They are very generous with the toppings too which is always a plus. Everything tastes amazing and is very flavorful. The staff here are pretty friendly. This is definitely a go to spot of mine whenever I'm in the area and I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a healthy lunch. I have been coming here for years, because its so close to my house. I kept ordering because each time I convince myself that it couldn't be as bad as I remember. I have finally gave up, I can't order from here again. They no longer mess up the order every time, just sometimes, but the quality is much worse for some reason. The rice is not fluffy at all, kinda grainy. They give almost no sauces, even when I ask for extra hoping for at least a reasonable amount. The fish has a terrible texture, it feels fatty in a bad way and often tastes so fishy that its inedible. Personally I don't like having to throw out half the food I paid for. read more
